    Hi CK! I followed your instructions, and the vinyl wrap on the roof and antenna turned out fantastic. The only problem is that my car’s Satellite Radio reception (specifically SiriusXM) is no longer working. Fortunately, FM, AM, and GPS are all functioning perfectly. I don’t use XM frequently, so it’s not a big deal, but I’m curious if this is a common issue with vinyl-wrapped antennas or maybe if 3M is too tick and should switch for Avery. Thanks for your help!

      I'm doing both was (fin off this time). The issue with on is I had to make a precise template to put the roof liner, so much more time. I ended up doing roof first, antenna second as the vinyl added a bit more paint protection in case knifing went bad. This time I'm taking fin off which will make the roof wrap simple and fast

    you ever try the vacuum-seal method before on a shark fin? there's a Rainer Lorz vid on TWI where he shows his rigged-together hand-vacuum method...it seems way too good to be true -- I've had moderate success using it on parts other than a shark fin, but figured I'd see if you've tried it before, bc if you can rig together the right cheap little vacuum device with like surgical tubing and air-tight tape it definitely seems like it'd be the best method to do shark fins tbh...I've been trying to find a cheap, yet still good enough handi-vac to use for it, bc in the vid Rainer no joke makes it look as if shark fins are basically just a super quick wrap you have to do before the roof wrap haha. If you haven't seen it I'd recommend checkin it out though, and if you've done it I'd love to hear how it worked out for ya, bc I'm tryin to incorporate it into my overall strategy/gameplan for roof wraps + wrapping shark fins super easily....but also tryin to see if it really is too good to be true, or if I just bought a really shitty handheld vacuum my first go-around....hahah

    • @CKWraps
      @CKWraps  5 лет назад +1

      What I don't like about it is how it draws tension down to the edges. Doesn't make sense to me

    • @mkm1856
      @mkm1856 5 лет назад

      @@CKWraps yeah when I first saw the video & in the intro part where it shows a super-brief overview of the trick, I had the same issue...but when I watched the whole thing and how he did it, keeping a slight opening around the sharkfin itself so you can tuck the vinyl under after vacuuming out that air, it seemed way more practical...I havent been able to get it to work yet, but that's bc I bought a piece of garbage hand-vac that hardly pulled any air out to begin with haha. But otherwise, so long as you leave that little bit of slack so you can pick up the vinyl around the edges of the actual antenna and then feed the vinyl underneath nice n flush, it definitely seems like a really solid way of doing it...I just get the feeling that it's something that looks super easy, but takes a couple times to practice so you arent just wrapping over the top edge of the sharkfin and that's it, so I think if you can master it to be able to cover that area underneath then it still seems clutch to me...plus if you're going to wrap the roof after doing that, you could still theoretically not need to tuck it 100% in, just as long as you create super tight seams...I def think I'm gonna keep at it personally, bc I think it def can be a better mousetrap, if you will...makes it so quick + easy, but definitely doesnt eliminate the necessity for preciseness/using it as a tool to get sloppy with your techniques basically...bc I've definitely been on that same page as what you mentioned, but watching ranier do it is pretty wild since hes able to tuck it in and make it look perfect still...so I just know there's gotta be a way to master it, but it just may take a bit more practice (& in my experience, clearly a better handi-vac bc of how horrible my last ghetto-rigged one failed to even pull air from an airtight setup, hahah)

      The shark fin antenna can be removed so that you can wrap the roof first or vise versa. It's easier to wrap it on the car as there is more control over the vinyl but when it comes to the roof wrap. It will have to be removed.

  • @stephenhastewell

    You're an absolute pro and understand the vinyl really well, but.... probably a good idea not to wear watches, belts, or even uncovered denim rivets. Really hard to keep an eye on where this metal is going while you're tongue out concentrating on a technical piece, especially while working on the roof.

    Your watch! Ouch, aren’t you from auto industry?? Wearing any watch is a taboo buddy. Really ouch! Moment.
