Alt Shift X has some great videos on Game of Thrones, and he also has a video called 'Aegon's Conquest: how did the Targaryens take Westeros?' which goes over Aegon's Conquest of the Seven Kingdom. You should also watch his video on Euron Greyjoy because that guy is terrifying in the books and is something the show didn't do, sadly.
Alt shift x did a good video on Jon snow as well talking about what he could be in the books
Also the true Tyrion
I ❤ Alt Shift X
Such great lore videos.
Order of the Green Hand is really good too. There are some videos that are more about opinions on characters too.

As for the Night's Watch, it can be summed up to this: Everybody else thinks they're in a game of Diplomacy while the Nights watch are the only guys who realize they're actually in Warhammer Fantasy Battle.
And everyone who thinks they're playing Diplomacy believes that the Night's Watch are just being overdramatic

Was not expecting it, but a great time to get into ASOIAF lore when House of the Dragon just had arguably it's best episode ever and we're not even halfway through season 2.
There's only 8 episodes of season 2. We are exactly half way through
@niallmacrae6016 Right, I remember being annoyed by that now, but considering how good the content is it's permissable.
Not to be that guy (i know im being that guy, sorry)... People saying Hotd s2 has been great really bothers me as a book reader. Its a decent show, but its not a good adaptation.
@priyamshome7005 so it can't be "great" unless it's a 100% faithful adaptation with no changes?
By that logic, the Lord of the Rings trilogy is "not great".
If you want the exact same story again, go reread the books lmfao
@@niallmacrae6016 first I will get this out of the way, I acknowledge that my opinion can be wrong and it could be that i wanted/expected it to be the same story with no changes as u said.
BUT there's a reason I don't think it's just that. I've never really been disappointed by adaptations of a story before. For example, I'm a big One Piece fan (idk if u have heard of it, it's a popular anime) and I liked the recent la adaptation of one piece even though it compresses 100s of chapters into a teensy 8 eps even though a lot of the content is lost in translation.
But as much as I wanna give hotd a second chance, I just can't help but feel utterly disappointed by it. And the feeling is way too strong in this. With lotr and op, the adaptations while changing stuff always still feel like the same universe. Hotd doesn't (to me). In fire and blood, the choice between the blacks and the greens are very nuanced to the point I haven't exactly chosen a side. But in hotd, the blacks are the clear choice. It's like the showrunner are forcing me to choose the blacks. Besides that hotd uses rule of cool way too much, which I like in other universes but not in the world of asoiaf. I loved hotd in s1 bcuz Viserys was objectively better written in the show, but it started to lose me after that rhaenys scene in the season finale.
What's crazy about Vhegar still being around during the Dance of the Dragons in "house of the dragon" is those younger dragons have never seen war or battle. Vhegar not only saw battle but conquered a continent through vicious battle and conquest. She has burned whole cities to the ground and killed thousands and thousands of men. Such phenomenal world building. In case you dont know, dragons just get bigger the older they are. That's why she is the biggest dragon at the time of "The Dance". So cool.
Hell, king Viserys rode Balerion, who was hatched _in Valyria._
17:13 To be fair, Bran the builder actually helped make storms end.

One of my fav things that I’ve heard about Valyrian lore is that the Targaryens were one of the lesser houses and so they had access to smaller dragons. There were dragons even bigger than Balerion the Black Dread but it’s something only alluded to in the books.
Balerion was just a puppy when Valyria exploded.
The Black Dread in its later years seems to be Peak Dragon.
The book lore goes insane, it’s sad the show runners wanted to connect to a broader audience and limited the magic a lot. Please look into the book lore nux, you’ll be blown away
Yeah, sadly, they went with completely different lore adaptations. The stuff on the book lore is infinitely more interesting. The histories and lore is pretty bland and most of it is explained already through the show.

Edit: also the wall is weird and even dragon (in the books) refuse to cross it and it is the only time that dragons have ever been recorded to disobey their rider
I mean the HoTD finale for season 1 is literally a cold war going hot from 2 dragons not obeying?
That stuff is in season 2-4 lore vids
@caleb As they said it’s the only time recorded, the only one who knew Vhagar disobeyed was Aemond and he didn’t tells anyone.
The best clue to the eventual big reveal of Jon's parentage and claim to the throne is that Rhaegar is almost like a second Ned Stark in the books. Aside from "kidnapping and raping Lyanna", no one ever says a bad word about him. He was a beloved Prince and seen as the future hope of the realm after his crazy father finally died. Anytime anyone talks about him it's nothing but praise until you get to that One Thing he did. Like Ned Stark, he had a stellar reputation, except for one single stain on his honor. And they both ended up being part of the same lie.
100%, Rhaegar and Lyanna might have been careless in their flight of love from what we know, but did literally was a GOAT all around from people that didn't like him to his trusted friends, except Robert... Robert became a kinslayer. He hated him so much.
Rhagar abandoned his wife and 2 children
Lyanna disliked that robert went to brothels yet was fine with a guy who abandons his family
@@leonrussell9607yet Targaryen’s have a different view on family and love.
Plus Rhaegar knew about the Prince.
@leonrussell9607 he didn't abandon his wife and kids. She knew he was trying to fulfill prophecy by having a third kid and she couldn't have any more. He left them at home and it's not like he wasn't planning on coming back there. Plus she's Dornish. They are a poly and highly sexual culture and don't believe any kid is a bastard. So she likely would've been ok with him and Lyana
@@leonrussell9607the Targaryen frequently engaged in Polygamy, on top of all the incest, less so towards the later part of their dynasty, but it still was frequent enough to cause several kings to have a falling out with the Septs.
GRR Martin said often times that he builds legens, presents histories, creates faiths and gods and gives characters visions and prophecies. And may of them might be real. But he is not interested in whether they are or are not, because they are made up by him. Instead he wants to explore how hill his characters respond to these things. It is not the dream that counts, but how the characters interpret it and act on it. He always sees himself as a gardener and these things are the water he gives to his plants
with how extensive, detailed and carefully crafted the whole ASOIAF-verse is. it's no surprise that winds of winter is still not done.
The true reason the Andals came to Westeros was not because of some divine vision.
Just like the Empire of Ghis, the Andals tried to take a go at the Valyrians and got put in the dust for their trouble. Fearing retribution from dragons, the Andals fled to Westeros in an attempt rescue their wounded pride by attacking the savage First Men. It worked and they decided to conquer all of Westeros.
Unfortunately for them, at the time Theon Stark was the Winter King and he beat the Andals back when they came to his lands with their preaching and their steel.
To emphasize that he and his were not interested in being conquered, Theon sailed to Andalos (home origin of the Andals) and slaughtered every single Andal still living there. He then staked their heads all along the coasts of the North to serve as a reminder.
The Ironborn hated the Northmen but they were so impressed with Theon’s absolute savagery that they started naming their kids after him.
Fucking Gigachad
I just looked up Theon Stark. Why did Balon name his son after a guy who defeated his people and forced them back to the Iron Islands? Was it a respect your enemies type of thing? I found that there’s at least three other Theon Greyjoys in the lore but that Theon specifically refers to Theon Stark as his namesake.
@@residentfan1521 Respect for a Chad of an enemy. The Ironborn respect strength above all and the Hungry Wolf's actions earned him that respect

The basic stories of Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings are opposite. In LOTR the magic is dying out. The elves are leaving, Smaug was the last of the great Dragons, the Ents are dying out exc. Former theology scholar here! The big ol' tl;dr on why priests take a celibacy vow is, as correctly notated in Fire And Ice lore, because those in esteemed hierarchal positions within the Vatican were trying to ensure their beloved counsel remained in the hands of the religiously powerful up to the 11th century. Though siring heirs to their positions had long been frowned upon, the last straw who forced their successor to begin enforcing celibacy as law was Pope Alexander VI! He'd had a few tenures during his lifetime, Alexander was also an infamous socialite descended from the Borgias, a Spanish noble family and one of the major warring factions over Renaissance Italy. One could say he was the Nick Cannon of his time, having children left, right, and center with several women (and was actually quite a generous caregiver). What caused friction within the Vatican was that whenever he wanted to take a "sick day," he'd send his kids - especially Lucrezia, his favorite daughter, to sit in for him at the papal meetings. He's why Pope Julius II basically kicked out the Borgias as one of the first steps in outlawing Nicolaism, the practice of having children before/after priesthood, ridding the "entire thought of temptation" in the first place.
Like you mentioned the oldest recorded history is 5000 years ago but that does not mean that is the oldest history we know about. It means the oldest pieces of writing we ever found was from 5000 years ago. We know about ancient civilizations that existed even before the Egyptians. For example the Mesopotamian civilization started 8000BCE nearly 10000 years ago and it ended around 2000 BCE. It lasted 6000 years practically as long as the Valerians from game of thrones. The Valerians may have taken inspiration from the Mesopotamians. Through archeological evidence we have a good idea what Mesopotamian life was like even 10000 years ago. However the Mesopotamians invented writing only 5000 thousand years ago hence why the oldest piece historical of writing or what is referred to as recorded history only goes back 5000 years ago.
eh, not exactly, we know of settled peoples that engaged in agriculture, but a culture does not a civilization make in the full sense, that necessitates the existence of a state of some sort, and also, Mesopotamia as you describe it did not continuously exist as a single civilization, there are several distinct "Lineages" of civilizations in the basin of the 2 rivers.
The "First" Were the Sumerians, of whom we know little of their origin, except that they spoke a language isolate that was neither Semitic nor Indo-European unlike most of their neighbors, they lived centered mostly along lower Mesopotamia closer to the Persian gulf, they died after roughly 2000 years when they were conquered by the Akkadians.
Then the Akkadians, who had cultural similarities to the Sumerians but spoke an entirely unrelated semitic language, who arose around central Mesopotamia, and after the splintering of their early empire diverged into both Assyrians in the drylands of northern Mesopotamia, the Babylonians of central Mesopotamia, and the Chaldeans of lower Mesopotamia, the Akkadians as a whole are the longest living of the civilizations, surviving as a separate identity for almost 4000 years, until the fall of the Parthian Empire and the Persian Irredentism of the Sassanian empire led to the suppression of most non-Persian identities in the west of the empire.
Then there's the Elamites, who lived along the northern shore of the Persian gulf and the fertile plain east of the Tigris, they spoke yet another language isolate, and had a distinct religion and architecture, the city of Anshan, which was originally one of their easternmost settlements, was conquered by and became the seat of some of the earliest recorded Persian kings, and their language became the "Administrative" language of the Achaemenid empire for roughly the first half of it's existence, which eventually led to their assimilation into Persian culture by the time the Parthian empire rose.
The Gutians, who lived in the hinterlands of western Iran, also spoke a language Isolate, which may or may not be related to both or neither Elamite or Sumerian, they had few cities and were mostly a pastoral people, their existence is known mostly from records of conflicts they had with their neighbors, their were relatively short lived, as the Median and later Persian conquest of the region saw them displaced or forcibly resettled.
The Hurrians, who spoke a language who's only known relative was the Urartian Language of eastern Anatolia/southern Caucasus, they lived mostly in the northern fringes of Mesopotamia and were eventually conquered by and dispersed into Assyrian society during the first Assyrian empire, by the bronze age collapse their language had mostly died out, but they still existed as a distinct people until the ultimate collapse of the Neo-Assyrian empire, since the Rising Neo-Babylonian empire subjected most of them to forced resettlement which ultimately dispersed and killed their cultural identity, they may actually be the oldest, even predating Sumerians, but they adopted writing relatively late into their history so most accounts of their early civilization come from Akkadian sources.

Not as many searches for “Game of thrones” these days, but the lore is still big because of house of the dragon airing now. Someone might have already pointed out, but Bran the builder was rumored to have helped build Storm's End. David Lightbringer mentioned this in one of his videos.
If nothing else, Storm's End and Winterfell are both Bullshit Super Buildings, complete with roman plumbing tech and geomancy magic.
Places like Harrenhall and the Red Keep are _not_ built with the style and magic of the Dawn, which is why they crumble.
Tywin is just a perfect medieval Lord. He reminds me of the likes of Tokugawa Ieyasu who was a master politician and commander, all to improve his family name.
I think when it comes to Robert not punishing the Lannsiter one has to account for the fact that the Martels of Dorne and, even though less likely, the Reach were far from defeated and the Lannisters couldve turned Roberts whole victory around if they had made an enemy of Tyin.
Aegon seems like he's based off Alexander The Great. Both young and crossing over to conqueror a much bigger kingdom and would later be known as Conquerors.
Or William the Conqueror
Summed up the nights watch perfectly. Just a wintery Australia with smaller spiders 😂😂😂
Been waiting for this. Some of the best lore in fiction, looking forward to seeing your reactions nux 😁☺️
So, important point to make regarding magic and Westerosi history:
The TV show avoided showing magic until later seasons because of the production team wanting to avoid cheap CGI early on, among other reasons.
Magic occurs in far more literal terms throughout the novels, and the history of Westeros as explained is a bit more direct in the intervention of "Gods".
You love the villains, maybe you should check out Euron Greyjoy.
If Nux Taku were in *Game of Thrones*, it would be an interesting mix of his quirky, humorous style with the dark, intense world of Westeros. Here’s a fun way to imagine it:
- **Character Role**: Nux could be a clever and mischievous character, possibly a jester or an eccentric noble with a knack for outwitting others. His character might be known for using humor and memes to navigate the treacherous politics of the realm.
- **House Affiliation**: He could be from a lesser-known house with a reputation for being unconventional, perhaps House Tarly (before Sam) or a completely new house known for their cunning and wit.
- **Plot Involvement**: Nux’s character could be the one who knows secrets that could change the game for various factions, using his knowledge and meme-like riddles to keep the audience and other characters guessing.
- **Interactions**: His interactions with characters like Tyrion Lannister or Varys could be a comedic highlight, with them trying to figure out if he’s a fool or a genius. He might also have a playful rivalry with Littlefinger, outmaneuvering him in unexpected ways.
- **Fate**: True to his unpredictable nature, his fate could be equally unpredictable-either he manages to survive against all odds, or he meets a dramatic and meme-worthy end that becomes legendary in the world of Westeros.
It would definitely add a unique and humorous twist to the series!

Aerea Targeryan disappeared upon the back of Balerion for a year as he returned to his home in old Valyria. When she had returned she was stick thin, Grand Maester Benifer and Septon Barth had given her the "milk of poppy" and immersed her into a ice bath but didn't help, for her skin was red and seemed as if it was burning, she had barely any flesh left upon her bones and looked gaunt and starved. Her fever kept getting worse and worse, her skin became increasingly darker and more burnt. Slimy fire parasites had made their way into her body and were trying to escape from her skin, making all kinds of horrible sounds as he lowered her into the ice bath. Barth noted that one was as long as his arm. He never would forget the things she muttered to him as she lay dying.
She was cremated, and subsequently afterwards all travel to Valyria was forbidden and anybody found to have been there would be immediately executed.
"It has been three days since the princess perished, and I have not slept. I do not know that I shall ever sleep again. The Mother is merciful, I have always believed, and the Father Above judges each man justly... but there was no mercy and no justice in what befell our poor princess. How could the gods be so blind or so uncaring as to permit such horror? Or is it possible that there are other deities in this universe, monstrous evil gods such as the priests of Red R'hllor preach against, against whose malice the kings of men and the gods of men are naught but flies? I do not know. I do not want to know. If this makes me a faithless septon, so be it."
-writings of Barth
Bran the builder helped the Baratheon's build Storm's End... friendly lore bit 😂
Lore goes deeper than this. "Mad King" Aerys II Targaryen was the 17th king in the Targaryen line after conquest. All 16 kings had notable battles, plagues and events happen during their reign. From the Targaryen Civil War The Dance of the Dragons to the War of the Ninepenny Kings
Star Trek loredive please, Nux!
As to the length of Velerian rule, it helps that their power was backed by dragon fire.
Would love more asoiaf (GOT) lore. Definitely gotta look into aegon the conqueror, Targaryen family history and all the other houses history
Maester Lewin is the one from the Stark house. The one Reek Greyjoy (forget his other name atm) took over and "killed" Bran and Rickkon
Nux really needs to react to the Borgias family, Horrible histories even made a song for it and there exists a tv show about them
I think I read that the doom of Valyria was all 14 volcanos erupted, so a much more intense Pompeii, and the reason the targaryens survived was because on of theirs had a prophetic dream about said doom so they acquired land outside of valyria and moved to it, that being Dragonstone
Ive only recently found you in the last year and you make me laugh out loud physically more then any other youtuber! Thank you for now getting into my fave books/shows !! #bobbityboopity
Love your reaction thanks for video
I would recommend the new lore that came out since season 1 of Game of Thrones, but it would spoil House of the Dragon. If you don't mind knowing how the Dance of Dragons ends, check out In Deep Geek's videos. In my opinion, he does the best Song of Ice and Fire lore and theories videos (as well as Tolkien). I think his newer videos refrain from spoiling the Dance, but his older videos do, as he made them before House of the Dragon came out.
