First time I see this DJ and must admit was quite impressed with the dial. It is beautiful! Thanks again for another great review Gandor, I love the channel and the content! 🚀🚀🚀🎸
I ordered this, except on a jubilee bracelet. I know some might think it looks too busy, but I have a strong feeling that it will look just fine since the dial shimmers and appears more subtle.
Agreed! I actually asked Rolex for a jubilee as well, but they only had this one for loan. Jubilee is the right way to go IMO, also the traditional Datejust style. Love it, great choice!
@@WatchTheFreshFaces I personally prefer the oyster and fluted combo. I think jubilee and fluted does make it look too busy... they both shine and make the watch a bit too shiny overall... bit like wearing striped shirt over striped trousers. Feel like the bracelet steals the scene from the bazel. I like how the oyster bracelet humbleness let the fluted bazel be the protagonist. Alternatively, I like jubilee and smooth bazel. Also, jubilee is a bit too feminine in my opinion. Looks good on a lady though. Anyways, it’s just a matter of taste.
Got mine today. 7 months on a waitlist and the jubilee bracelet is perfect for it. Not busy at all as under normal lights the dial is subtle - the press shots are not how it will look all of the time.
I expressed interest in this piece to my local AD on day one, with fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet. I've never worn a 36mm watch on my 18cm/7.2in wrist before, but I'm curious to see what it would look like in the flesh. I like its dressy allure and sophisticated dial. Must be super comfortable to wear.
Sounds very, very good! I think it could fit quite well as this Rolex has a very serious wrist presence while still being elegant Jubilee bracelet is definitely the right choice. Please do let us know your experiences!
I have the same wrist size (18.5 cm) and love to wear a 36 mm watch. I stayed away from anything smaller than 39 mm for years, then I got a Tudor Black Bay 36. I realized what I was missing, the perfect size for me. The most comfortable watch I own. Looking forward to getting a 36 mm Datejust soon...
I actually quite like that they are hard to get. It keeps their value high. I am warming to the more classically sized models after getting my 39mm Explorer. I'm trying to figure out which Date Just to get, but it will definitely be 36mm with a fluted bezel and a jubilee bracelet. Thanks for a great video. That new fluted dial is really cool.
I think the 36mm with fluted beze and jubilee bracelet with a dial in a timeless colour is definitely the perfect choice for the DJ! I'm very much still doubting whether to get this one or the Explorer, really love the understated but firm presence of that watch! Had a DJ in 36mm before, it really is large enough, think. A Rolex has so much stopping power from itself...
@@WatchTheFreshFaces I picked up the new 36mm Explorer, but haven't worn it yet. I'm planning to give it to my son in a couple of years. However, I don't know if I can wait that long. I really want to go down to my AD, get it sized and give it a run. But I'll probably just keep it new for him since I already have a 39mm Explorer.
Now that's a real luxury problem right there 😁 What's your opinion on the new Explorer btw? I was sceptic at first but it really made sense on the wrist
@@WatchTheFreshFaces I haven't worn it sized yet, but I think I like it equally as much as the 39mm. They are both great sizes. I would easily wear either one. If pressed I think I'd be a slight lean towards the new 36mm model. I prefer the gloss black dial to the matte.
My parents surprised me with thus (except on jubilee) last Sunday. It's been my grail watch for a while. The blue fluted motif is my favorite DJ dial. I think the wait was only 6 months for it.
Really was interested in this watch thanks for review, just wish you would have talked more about the dial like in different lightnings or comparison with other blue DJ dials
It must seen in person. There is something magical in all of the blue dialled Datejusts with the white gold fluted bezels. There is a depth of hue to the bezel, playing against the polished steel which brings a never-ending variety and variance in the way all of the blue dials variably shimmer, reflect, capture and deepen the light. It's definitely the fluted white gold bezel that plays a big part in this, in addition to the dial itself. It makes it more private, in a way, compared to Day Date platinum or VC Overseas (a marvel in itself).
Yes, and explain in detail what the multi-step process entails when creating this dial. Perhaps a trip to the Rolex factory, I mean atelier, is in order?
Unrivaled brand equity. Purchased Sea Dweller $1k 1980, sold 25 yrs later Sotheby’s for $10.5k. So not only was the watch free but it covered completely the cost of several Patek Philippe watches I purchased new in 1982.
I really respect how Rolex has not increased production to meet current demand. Rolex places brand integrity over all else. Buy a Rolex, you will always get your money back if you ever decide to sell.😊

Let us leave aside this pedestrian talk of waitlists and business and such, and focus on what truly matters: That magnificent pairing of that marinière with that most perfect of Rolexes, so perfectly made for eachother. For this is the spirit and essence and function of the Datejust, this model especially, a near-perfect iteration in its off-hand elan, casual elegance, masterful execution, and unseen but understood ruggedness and reliability. A firm-handed Cary Grant or tousled John Kennedy at the helm of a teak-decked yawl as a bit of a squall kicks up on an otherwise perfect day off the coast. Tieing off the cleats.
