I am 6 foot tall (184cm), have 7 inch wrists and 36mm fits me best. Some people are so insecure about themselves that they have to put down others.. fortunately, as adults, we can just ignore those people and do what suits us best.
Absolute class, love the size. I love smaller watches in general i think it looks more subtle and not as ”in your face” and therefore it signals confidence
Are you saying you’re not trying to flex on the haters?! 😂. I completely agree with you although my approach with my collection is that I have a nice two tone 36mm ref#16233 with a white pyramid dial. Very elegant but not practical for daily use. For my second rolex, I put my name down for a 41 white rolesor date just, fluted, jubilee, slate grey dial. I want it to be my daily and the fact it’s not two tone makes it less in your face. The bigger size makes it easier to see the time at a glance over the 36. More practical for daily use imo. And the demand for 41s is higher so it also makes it a better investment
Up-sizing a Datejust 36 to 41mm is kind of like increasing the size of a classic Porsche 911 or an Eames lounge chair by 10%. It’s not necessary-the original dimensions were part of what made the item a design classic. That’s how I think about this watch: it’s like a beautiful car, or classic piece of furniture, or a perfect stereo system. It’s a wonderful and classic design object that you can make part of your everyday life. To me, the idea of signaling confidence is beside the point. Regardless of wrist size, a larger watch is always going to have the potential to get in the way a little more, be more of a distraction to others, and to feel bulky. In addition, the proportions and individual design elements have changed in a way that isn’t necessarily appealing to everyone.
36 is the way to go. I just got a 36 date just with the mint green dial allocated. Can’t wait to get it! The culture of oversized watches is obnoxious.
The point with wearing a Datejust Jubilee is also the beautiful effect the bracelet has instead of just seeing the pan-sized watch in the 41. Also the fluted bezel on the 41 is just oversized and not proported to the relatively small dial. Jsut is bulky and not timeless in my opinion.
I think 36mm is absolutely proper size for dress watch and has very comfortable fitting. I have 7.5" wrists and have both sized Date-just, 41mm and 36mm. Many people says to me that 41mm fits me better but I always prefer to use 36mm. I'm definitely not a man who like other man. 🤔🤔
Your new Datejust 36 looks good on you. The size suits you better than the Sub, and it's more distinctive. I have an 8" wrist, so I prefer a 42 mm & up. Not a set rule, but smaller wrist people look better with a smaller diameter watch size & vice versa.
My wrist size is 7.5 inches and I’m wearing Daydate 36mm daily. The largest watch in my collection is Black Bay 58 in 39mm, but 90% of the time 36mm is way to go for me. Congrats with purchase. It’s a beautiful watch.
Same wrist size just about and I personally feel the 41mm looks the best on me. 36mm seems just a bit too small for my liking but to each there own! Either way, can't go wrong with a Rolex!
Same man. I think my BB58 is the perfect watch for me as I prefer sports models, but I just got the call yesterday from my AD on a Datejust 36 Wimbledon and I’m going to pick it up one of these coming days. I think your dress watch SHOULDN’T be bigger than your sports watch. That’s why I’m not interested in the 41. That - and the fact that I wanted the smooth bezel and the smooth bezel looks horrendous on the 41 and amazing on the 36.
36 smooth dial with Oyster bracelet and blue fluted dial is the perfect combination of modern DJ IMO. Jubilee suits also but I feel the Oyster suits better overall . Also the male end links of the oyster will probably make the watch wear more like a 37 or 38 which frankly is the perfect size for most wrists that's not Popeye.
Watch sizes come and go with the fashion of the times - just like tie widths, when men actually wore ties. Skinny ties were classic in the 50s and early 60s and got wider and wider into the 70s, and then narrowed into the 80s, 90s and 2000s. The 36mm Rolex is the classic size that started it all.
I have a sub and 36mm datejust and enjoy wearing the datejust more. I’ve had it since 1987 and have never thought it felt small. Don’t look back. It’s awesome.
I am buying this for my daughters university graduation. My wife already has a 36 mm datejust bought 15 years ago. Its a gorgeous watch. A guy needs to be slightly built IMO to wear it well. Im 5 11, 180 lbs. 7.75 inch wrist and it looks way too small on me. Just like a big watch looks ridiculous on a small wrist, the opposite is true. It looks amazing for your wrist size.
I’ve got 7.5” wrists and I’ve been obsessively looking at Datejust models and sizes for the past month or so. At this point I’m honestly sold on the 36mm for daily wear. The 41mm isn’t bad looking, but it’s practically the size of a dive watch. Not only that, but the white Rolesor fluted crown sparkles like a disco ball when compared to the steel ones on classic DJs of the past.
The 36mm looks great on you. This is the exact DateJust I would get. The fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet wear “bigger” because of the way they catch the light. I have a 39mm Explorer and I love the size on me.
I have a daytone black dial, and a 41mm wimbledone two tone rose gold. I recently purchased a 36mm blue motif and I love how it wears, compared to the other two. Now im looking at downsizing from a 41mm wimbledone down to a 36mm.
Congrats!!! Excellent choice, you are going in the right direction. You have your Sub everyday sport watch. Now you have a business/dress watch with your 36mm Date Just. The perfect two watch collection. That's all a man needs. Speaking of 36mm... That's the ONLY proper size for a Date Just or Day Date. Dress/business watch watches SHOULD be a classic size. The Wimbeldon DJ looks even better as a 36mm. There's no need for a 40/41mm disproportionate size. I like this new generation of Date Just in a non-super oyster case design like the previous gen. This one doesn't need to be bulky, the fluted bezel and jubilee speak for itself.
I have same exact watch. Also have a 41 DJ2 Wimbledon two tone. The 36 wears a lot better. Super comfortable and versatile. I barely even wear the 41 anymore. Will probably trade.
Beautiful- congrats. The 36mm was the standard size for all brands up until about 2010 when brands started blowing up watch sizes. The 36mm is a great size for most men.
You’re absolutely on the money with this video I’ve always thought the datejust looks better in 36 but its a stigma. I think if you want a bigger model stick to the sports models etc. datejust 2 was unpopular for this exact reason. People forget that.
I purchased a Tudor Bb58 Gilt, a year ago and loved its size. Tried on a Dj 36 blue jubilee at the Ad with a fluted bezel and it was so stunning. I have a 6.5 wrist and I couldn’t help myself put my name on list.
Well mate the 36mm dj is my favorite watch. My wife even told me it sexy when wearing a dress shirt. It’s bracelet size being 20mm with its lugs make the Watch look absolutely perfect and zero regrets of buying my first Rolex as a Dj 36. I just can’t take it off.
The size is great for you. The 36mm is a classic. Looks way more dressier and elegant than an oversized DJ41 on some wrists. Unfortunatelly, my wrist is to too large (almost 8") so I don't think I could pull off the 36mm and in my case the 41 doesn't look like a sports watch if I wear it. In other words, you must forget about the generic comments on the internet and go for what's right for you. And I think you picked well. Regards from Brazil.
Beautiful piece, I have large wrists and 36mm looks great on my wrist. This is not a " Woman's Watch" that is just plain silly. I think the 40mm looks less elegant on the wrist.
Beautiful Rolex. I have a 36mm Omega that suits me just fine..it is a classic size which adds to its elegance without being overly blingy which is how it should look. For this reason, in terms of overall design (including size), mid century watchmaking will always be the golden age in my opinion.
The disadvantage of the hidden clasp is that there is no micro adjust. Esthetically I'd rather have hidden clasp, but the oyster clasp is way better in adjusting.
Man don’t worry about it. You love it & that’s all that matters! It looks good on you- the watch size suits your size. A little too blingy for me personally, but sure makes a good complement & contrast to your Sub. Wear in good health!
I had the 116900 Air King, which is an Oyster case in 40mm. It was fine for me, but I now own a new datejust in 36mm which fits me fine too. 15 years ago I wore a two tone Oysterdate in 34mm. I also wear 44mm Seiko and Breitling without any problems. People care too much about the case size. For me the Datejust in 41mm looks wrong, because they changed the proportions (bezel/case/dial proportions are different). The 36mm DJ on jubilee is the most comfortable watch I have ever owned.
Completely agree that the smaller watch is more elegant. Although I do wish it was a littleee bigger like 37mm. The datejust is my favorite Rolex model!
I have a 36mm Explorer and it fits great, I have a 41mm Aqua Terra and it fits great, I also own a 42mm Speedmaster Moon watch and it fits great. Wear what you like. I plan on a 36mm Datejust in the near future.
Beautiful watch looks perfect on you and is an absolute classic. As for size, there is no way to go as so many say. Like a pair of trousers they either fit you or they don't. I have 8.5" wrists, so wear the 41. I tried the 36, but it was way too small for me. You also have to consider the number of links to be added. It's not all about the case size. A little late, but congratulations on your purchase.
I'd love to have that watch. I have a vintage 1964 Benrus mens dress watch with a hand wind ETA movement. It measures 34 mm dia. x 9.2 mm thick. It is the same case issued to US troops in Vietnam. It is the same watch that Steve McQueen wore in the movie Bullitt. I never feel inadiquate when someone has a larger watch than me.😁
When I was in my 20s I used to read paper magazines and every time I see a rolex ad , it was usually for a 36 mm Rolex and It was a dream for me to get one . Other Rolexes like Subs or GMTs have never caught my attention at that time. I was overwhelmed by the internet craze about big Rolexes , last year I got a Sub and I used it for two months, it looked very weird and heavy. I sold it , you know it sells in seconds and I got my dream Rolex , a 36 mm with olive green dial. I am much happier and guess what, it gets attention everytime , congrats on your great watch. (By the way I had to chose between the Wimbledon like your and the green but I chose the green)
I had a 36mm Turn O Graph which was just like a Womans watch, but I now have the new 36mm which is substantially bigger and looks fine on my 7.5" wrist. The new 36mm is actually 36.9mm
I love the smaller case. My first was an 80s airking I still think its beautiful and wear it often. The dial and jubilee band are really striking on your watch great purchase
It really doesn’t matter what others think , Who cares. I wear 40mm Rolex but I still would wear 36mm watch . I think it’s silly When people wear watches that are way too big for them . Just enjoy your new beautiful watch
The people who hate on the Datejust are typically the Daytona and Sub owners who try to make you feel like you spent your $10K the wrong way lol A small watch on a small guy looks WAY better than a large watch on a large guy. Keep doing you, bro!
Classic for excellent reasons! I have had a 16234 Slate Tapestry Datejust since 1992. Your watch is about as close you can get to mine in 2024. No reason to hate. BTW: I’m 6’2” and 225. I’m build like a linebacker and this watch is perfect. I own other much larger watches from 40-44mm including a Tudor BB Chrono reverse panda that is a beast. You don’t need to wear the same size watch all the time.
I also regularly wear my DJ36 and appreciate the 36mm size. Once you're used to it, you know it is a very good size. BTW I am 5'10'' lean and my wrist size is 6.75" so not a huge wrist but even then I've gotten comments from people that the watch looks small on me. Somone even said it looks like a 34mm watch on my wrist! So the standard (at least the consensus) has definitely changed and there is absolutely no need to get hung up on what size of a watch people used to wear back in the day. We don't live in that era anymore. But there is no shame in wearing watches that look smaller. I actually got into smaller watches after seeing my coworker wearing a nice vintage 34mm dress watch and thought it looked absolutely elegant how he wore it with a suit. So yes the 36mm size is small by the modern standard and it does look small but so what? So long you like it that's all that matters and no need to deny that it is small.
Perfect fit on you! Very nice acquisition. Congratulations! I have 8” wrists, so 41mm fits me better. It would be great if I tried on a 36mm, and it worked out. Much lighter and more comfortable, I’m sure. May have to look into that. Beautiful dial, also. Keep up the good work.
Beautiful watch man, I’ve always wanted the Wimbolton as well. Don’t worry about the heaters that can’t afford it, those people always have negative opinions. Enjoy it
Congrats on owning 2 of the most iconic Rolex watches! And don't listen to those idiots who are hating on your gorgeous watch - 36mm Datejusts have been the gentlemen's standard since 1945. Perfect size and proportions for anyone with a 7 inch wrist or smaller. I have a 6.75" wrist and my sweet spot is 36-39mm, but I own and wear watches from 33 - 44mm.
@@rogerdracks1880 I love it when people who have not seen another person's wrist make uninformed judgments :) My wristband is wide (54mm), so many 34mm watches look a bit too small on my wrist (but I do own some 34mm dress watches). 36mm with small bezels look good on me, as do 39mm divers. Dial size is as important as case diameter and lug-to-lug. I've been wearing watches for over 50 years, so I know what looks good on my wrist and what doesn't. Cheers!
I have been on the fence between a 36 and a 41. After watching this, I'm going with the 36. I have very thin wrists so I think it will be a better fit.
Beautiful elegant and classy watch just purchased a 41 in this model, one of my favorite watches. It’s worth the money. Thanks for sharing. 36 is a versatile watch. Depends on your wrist size.
looks great! im a manlet with tiny wrists. I'm 33 years old and weigh less than 120lbs. 36mm datejust wears like a 41 on me, in fact, if i want the smaller watch look, i have to go down to watches aimed at women. 33mm is what wears like a 36mm for me. I wouldn't give 2 shits if someone thought i was feminine for it. Imo, they probably have shit taste and probably like chunky ass dive watches. Nothing wrong with breaking the mold. It's kind of a W for me also when i get more options on a watch in 33mm aimed at women, normally not available in "men's" sizes.
at the end of the day, do what you love and looks good to you. Though I am a grown man, i feel i couldn't pull off anything over a 36mm without looking a bit goofy. Regardless of what someone else might think, it is how i feel about my wrist size and watch wearablity.
Im going to buy the same this weekend, I was just worried about the size as everyone almost goes with 41 - but I also want to use it as dress watch Im sure 41 will be useless morever 36 is a classic and looks much classy
I’m the same height and wrist size as you and my GMT does not look bulky lol AD recentlyoffered me the 36 and it’s not a woman’s watch but it’s definitely small even on us smaller guys I’m waiting for this in 41 should be taking delivery soon
I am 6 foot tall (184cm), have 7 inch wrists and 36mm fits me best. Some people are so insecure about themselves that they have to put down others.. fortunately, as adults, we can just ignore those people and do what suits us best.
I Agree. Im 6'4" 235lbs and i just like the 36mm better. I think it's sleeker and sexier to me.
U got a rollie if they aint got 1 and talkn bout da size…they gotta take da g shock off 1st,,then speak 2 u lol
@@jayzee60 disagree. G shock shits on every rolex that has ever been made in the entire history of the company.

The 36mm Rolex Datejust is the perfect size for a smaller wrist. Great video!
The 36mm DJ is a classic for a reason. Congrats!

The Datejust and the Exp.1 start from 36. 36 appears the correct size for simple dials.
Beautiful! I wear a 41mm sub and alternate with a 36mm day date, love the size! 40mm day date is too flashy for me

I have a 36mm Explorer and it fits great, I have a 41mm Aqua Terra and it fits great, I also own a 42mm Speedmaster Moon watch and it fits great. Wear what you like. I plan on a 36mm Datejust in the near future.
Who hates that....its a beauty 😍😍
that Wimbledon with the green is actually my favorite datejust!
I'm genuinely impressed with how close amzwatch were able to replicate every aspect of this very very goofy looking classic watch.
I have 7.5” wrists. I love big watches, but on a Datejust I like the 36.
For someone with a 6.25 in wrist. 36mm is damn perfect.
I’m 5’10” 175lbs. I have a 36 and a 41. 36 is more comfortable but I love my 41 as well
Very smart points
I had a 36mm Turn O Graph which was just like a Womans watch, but I now have the new 36mm which is substantially bigger and looks fine on my 7.5" wrist. The new 36mm is actually 36.9mm
That’s beautiful and elegant!!
I have a 36 datejust and I love it perfect size and I’m 5’7 as well idgaf wat people think if i like it I like it not worried about anyone else..foh
The people who hate on the Datejust are typically the Daytona and Sub owners who try to make you feel like you spent your $10K the wrong way lol
A small watch on a small guy looks WAY better than a large watch on a large guy.
I only wear 34mm and 36mm. Beautiful timepieces
Don’t listen, everyone how understand in watches even a little- knows that 36 is better
I have a 36 Datejust jubilee bracelet gold and SS and consider this watch a dress watch. It's very elegant and attention to detail is evident.
Beautiful watch man, I’ve always wanted the Wimbolton as well. Don’t worry about the heaters that can’t afford it, those people always have negative opinions. Enjoy it
I would prefer this watch in the men’s size.
That makes up a perfect two watch collection.
Best Datejust Model in my Opinion! By far. (Maybe the rose version but really good choice
That DJ is pretty sweet!
Perfect. My wrist is 7 3/4. 40mm is about right. That size works for you.
Just beautiful!
36mm is das effortlessly classy and understateted „none show off“, I love mine. Never got hate but I wouldn’t care anyway 😂
I love it when people say they have a teeny wrist but their sweet spot is watches that look huge on their wrists
34mm should be your sweet spot sonny
@@rogerdracks1880 I love it when people who have not seen another person's wrist make uninformed judgments :) My wristband is wide (54mm), so many 34mm watches look a bit too small on my wrist (but I do own some 34mm dress watches). 36mm with small bezels look good on me, as do 39mm divers. Dial size is as important as case diameter and lug-to-lug. I've been wearing watches for over 50 years, so I know what looks good on my wrist and what doesn't. Cheers!

36mm is the best! Datejust in history have always been 36mm. It’s just the best classic size. Watches are too big these days it loses the classy look
Its beautiful, i have a small wrist of 16.5cm, and i wish to get this watch in the near future
I have been on the fence between a 36 and a 41. After watching this, I'm going with the 36. I have very thin wrists so I think it will be a better fit.
Wimbledon, Black or Blue dial is the question 🤔🤦♂️
Beautiful elegant and classy watch just purchased a 41 in this model, one of my favorite watches. It’s worth the money. Thanks for sharing. 36 is a versatile watch. Depends on your wrist size.
I also have 36 datejust blue dial with white gold bezel. And jubilee bracelet. Awesome watch. Elegant and classy.
looks great! im a manlet with tiny wrists.
I fully agree with you that the 36 mm is so much better and elegant that’s why I chose the 36mm datejust 🔥🔥👌💯
I have 40 submariner and 36 DJ blue , and best size for my 6,75 wrist 38mm , I recently bought YM40 blue and this best fit.
I have a 80s datejust..love it!
I’m the same height and wrist size as you and my GMT does not look bulky lol AD recentlyoffered me the 36 and it’s not a woman’s watch but it’s definitely small even on us smaller guys I’m waiting for this in 41 should be taking delivery soon
