What is ASMR? It is both a sensation and a medium.
ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response and is the current, non-scientific name given to the feeling characterized as a pleasurable tingling sensation felt in the head, scalp, back and other regions of the body in response to visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, and/or cognitive stimuli, such as crinkling bags, hand movements, whispering, personal attention or watching someone perform a task. It's like goosebumps, but much more pleasant.
ASMR videos are meant to intentionally help induce this sensation, also referred to as "tingles", but also provide a relaxing, calming, soothing, therapeutic and even entertaining experience for the viewer.
Many people who do not experience ASMR still enjoy the videos for their calming and sleepy effect.
12:50 well, I'd say my favourite toe(s) would be my two big toes, since they're the ones doing a lot of the work of holding me up, although it's quite a close race, because without the rest of my toes I'd still probably fall over every two steps, plus, my smallest toes are just kinda cute compared to the rest of the other ones, because the rest are just awkwardly long (I'm exaggerating just for comedic effect, I'm not actually insulting my own toes), another thing is that even though I say my favourite toes are my two big toes then i don't really show it, because lately they've been taking a beating because the little black rubber thingies on the rugby field I play on get into my shoes and burn the top layer of the skin on these two toes (mainly), so really, honestly, I couldn't say, it really is one of the toughest questions I've been ever asked.

It is my belief that life is meaningless, but rather than that being frightening or depressing I find it liberating. If life has no inherent meaning or purpose, if nothing has any inherent value, the the only value and purpose that remain are what we humans ascribe to things. This leaves us all the architects of our own reality, the masters of our own morality. What you think is important, is. And what you don't, isn't. And so we give our own lives meaning by doing the things we love, and needn't worry about our purpose ever again for it is intertwined with our very desires.

That right there is the beauty of optimistic nihilism, and I entirely agree.
Make a video labeled "First time ASMR" and its just the mannequin in front of a camera alone for 20 minutes while you made noises with tinfoil, cardboard, and rubber really slow off screen. And if you really want to make it good, make the camera slowly pan in towards the mannequin's face as the video progresses.

To be honest, the thought of not having an afterlife had always bothered me, especially if I died an early death, but then when I sort of began to believe that humanity's purpose in life was to make some form of difference, I realised that in my death, regardless of how small it would be, I would still be doing the same thing I lived for. And one of my teachers in high school said that we live to die, and for some people that is haunting, but it's the idea that we should work to have no regrets in death, to do all we have to do in life so we can move on.

I actually have a paper on existentialism coming up, and I think your video helped me understand it a bit better.
So like I’m gonna just spill all the beans here. I’m a very lonely person. I have nobody in my life that I feel comfortable around to even just tell them about my day. I don’t know what’s wrong with me but I think I just annoy people, or don’t open up enough or something, so no one really stays in my life or has grown close. but I’ve been watching ASMR for 8 years and whenever I turn on one of ER’s videos I feel like I’m with a real friend… someone who’s always been there through all the years and who I feel comfortable with because I’ve learned his quirks and I know he’s not here to threaten me in anyway because he is genuinely a good person with a creative and intelligent mind like no other… thank you Rift for being my friend and I know you don’t know me but it’s always really comforting to have you around on those nights when I have nobody to turn to

Why did the chicken cross the road? The age old question that has a dark and mysterious answer. So you see, the chicken obviously crossed the road to get to the other side right? Well seeing as chickens don't tend to be near roads, and certainly don't cross roads terribly often this is a peculiar statement. However when taken as a metaphor, its dark origins are revealed. A chicken is analogous to a coward. Now we come to the crossing the road part, which is strange, but oddly not very metaphoric, but we'll come back to that. And lastly, the other side is frequently referred to as an euphemism for the afterlife. So what we come up with is that the coward crossed the road to reach the afterlife. This literally means that it is a cowardly thing to run into traffic looking to be run over and killed. This was a saying popularized to associate suicide with cowardice. - Terribly sorry if i just ruined your day.
