Its crazy to think how people lived in the 1800s compared to just 200 years later.. being born in early 1900s and living to 2010s must be insane, life must have changed so rapidly for them with jukebox, record players, radios, to cassette/8 track players, CD players, iPods, color tv, computers, cell phones, smart phones, modern cars, etc... its like living in a time machine

It struck me as scripture and given the date in which it’s written, that wouldn’t surprise me and I believe that word is Proverbs. I could be wrong. Proverbs Chapter 1, Verse 28: “They will call on me, but I will not answer; they will *seek me diligently* but they will not find me.” Hope this helps. It could be a coincidence.

I have been watching ASMR videos for many years now, but it wasn’t until quite recently that the RUclips algorithm introduced me to your channel. I absolute love your work! I can tell you without a moment’s hesitation that you have the finest voice that I have ever heard for ASMR, actually one of the finest I have ever heard period. I teach music and drama at Julliard, which is a conservatory for the arts here in the United States. I share this with you because I work with actors, including voice actors, all the time. And I can tell you with a great deal of certainty that at least 90% of my voice students would KILL to have your voice. Seriously. What comes to you so effortlessly is a subject of daily intensive study and practice for many of my students. Like everyone else here, I experience ASMR, and my most powerful trigger is a whispered voice that has a beautiful timbre and texture. And that is exactly what you have. So I am absolutely thrilled to be discovering you and your fantastic content! You have a very happy and enthusiastic new subscriber!

Thanks for not wearing gloves Dry, clean hands is actually better for the books. With gloves on they are harder to grip which increases chance of dropping the books and when flicking through the books gloves can catch and nick on the paper and parts can flake off. So a little bit of oil is far less damaging to a book than dropping it and having bits flake off

I used to work very closely with the head of libraries for the National Trust (a heritage charity in the UK that looks after very old buildings, which includes hundreds of thousands of ancient books) and he told me to never use cotton gloves when handling books, because the cotton can snag and tear very old paper. The oils on your skin are less of a threat.

When my great grandparents died, there were some absolutely ancient books just like this... but, like, a ton of them, and I’m sure some were simply thrown in the garbage... It’s sad to think a good, treasured book being sold cheap because of a death, but that just means it’s going to someone else who can cherish it

I am so obsessed with books, i really have a lot of them, from all topics, history, physics, biology, religion, dictionaries, i have a lot of dictionaries from different languages that are old, i don't even know how to talk those languages but i know a lot of old word whatsoever due to those dictionaries, i have cooking books, novels, science fiction, and I have read majority of them, i am so happy, i obviously do not learn every single page but has helped me a lot on my academic field (I just entered to university) and, i personally feel i can talk about a lot of more things, my oldest book is from 1920s, i really really well conserved book, my mom bought me the book on a library for my birthday, she said the books was under a big pile of really old- yellow pages books, and you could get 4 books for 1 dollar, so crazy idk why people won't buy those treasures, but anyways, i enjoyed a lot this video, I really enjoy astronomy and so is so great and impresive to see and have the opportunity to read the information of such and old book, more than 100 years but it looks ridiculously well conserved, times when books were made to not to be destroyed, not even with a nuclear bomb, thank you!!!

Random comment given this is asmr but I'm a conservator who works in a museum and handles and works with historical artefacts daily. Clean hands is the preferred method for most books and paper due to the increased manual dexterity it provides. You are more likely to damage and tear a book while wearing gloves. Within the industry, the only time you would really wear gloves is if you are handling an item that contains a hazard, which is extremely rare in paper and books. So from a professional, you not using gloves for this makes sense!

Okay first of all, I'd like to say that I really enjoy your videos! Thank you for the time and work that you put into these for OUR enjoyment! Please know that what you do is very much appreciated! 🙂
Secondly, as a collector of antique books myself, I found this video to be incredibly interesting and a bit fascinating to see a book of that age! (Don't worry - I'm not about to lecture you or give you grief for handling the book, lol. I can't resist the urge to handle some of my own antique books, despite knowing that it's not fantastic for the condition or the value...)
I like your videos for 2 specific reasons: the first reason is that they're ALWAYS interesting. You always touch base on some interesting topics that I enjoy learning about. The second reason is a bit more selfish lol - I enjoy the ASMR aspect of your videos, and I suffer frequently from insomnia, and listening to you talk about these topics is incredibly calming and relaxing, and more often than not, if I'm having trouble sleeping I can pop on a video of yours and - as long as I don't let myself get TOO interested in the topic - usually doze off to your vids.
Thank you for taking the time to do what you do - it's definitely appreciated, my friend!

I'm 90% sure the last word of the dedication from 1840. is "Piotrek"(Peter) which is a common polish name. I'm pretty sure the "ek" that we put to soften our names is seen only in polish language, that's why I jumped to try and read the first letters. Correct me if I'm wrong though.
Ps. It would also make sense for the rest of the dedication to be in English. Many polish people were emigrants in the USA at the time (Poland was occupied by Russia, Prussia and Austria until the end of ww1, exactly 123years and yes, we always need to bring that up)
