If you think they are losing their hearing, then they also must be loosing their sense of smell on the show. I can't count the amount of times they are in a confined room or indoors in general and are caught off guard by a walker. Folks, ROTTING CORPSES leave odor. If you walk into a room and it smells of rotting flesh --- a "walker" is near by.

Same for my dad he was clearing a building when he was a police officer (he is now retired) and a hatch dropped a grenade into the next room. Before my dad could even yell the grenade blew up and he woke up OUTSIDE THE BUILDING. And as a result my dad is almost deaf in one ear and hears a constant ringing in that ear.

Matt. You're right. Even wearing ear protection firing a .40 it still damaged my hearing. I used ear plugs, the most viable and common protection they could find. After an hour of shooting I had trouble hearing for a few days.

My dad was in the army and his hearing is terribly damaged even with military grade earplugs. Nearly the entire group would be almost completely deaf by now.

I shot a tiny target pistol at an indoor range without hearing protection. I had my handguns lined up from 22 to 44 to see what is unbearable. I couldn't hear for half an hour from the 22. Admittedly indoor ranges are an echo chamber, but still, a 22 fucking wrecked me I couldn't step up to the next shot because I didn't want to risk my hearing.
What a stupid experiment to do, you could've easily built an on rail system and fired the shots from a far away distance with a pulley system or just used a decibel recorder. Jesus...

Not at all. Walking dead is still one of the top shows on tv. It could be much better though. Negans censorship will likely destroy it though. More viewers also dulls the show somewhat because there are a lot more casual viewers that keep character developement from progressing for more air time, etc. HBO turning it down because of violence is bullshit.
Watching this bc I’m rewatching the walking dead, but this reminds me; at one point, Daryl is able to differentiate between walker footsteps and human footsteps (sometime during either the 5th or 6th season it is talked about). If he had considerably lost his hearing like the others have, he wouldn’t be able to do things like that. Having the crossbow instead of a gun helps him MORE with his tracking skills

Those were "fresh zombies", when you get converted you keep your habits but with the time these get vanished. Speaking about velocity, they in fact walk slow but when they see you the get "excited" so they become faster but in a normal way as any person (they are still "living beings" with behaviors, reactions, etc). Finally they can not walk for ever a body in function needs to spend energy so they burn they own organism (in the same way that the people does when they get trapped in a cave, island, etc)
Fast forward to now, I think this is happening and being proved. There is a deaf character and another character going deaf who has been majorly affected by it.
I always thought this was weird. How come the zombies make 0 sound when they are off camera. In a lot of scenes the zombie pops around the corner or they pop up right behind the characters, and they make no sound before you see them.

Natalie Parker silencers can still give you hearing damage. They're suppressors, not silencers. They lower the blast but it's still loud like a balloon popping
It's actually smart. Sound dampening is important but actual sound dampening materials are expensive in room sized quantities. A closet filled with clothes actually does nearly as well at absorbing sounds while not costing you anything except comfort. So there ya go. God I remember once when someone let loose a turkey shell next to me and my ears had fallen out. I couldnt hear shit out of my left side for a day. Seriously guys. When you go shooting, always have your ears and eyes with you. ALWAYS. And preferably a hat of some kind as well to prevent stuff from going over your glasses and getting into your eyes that way.
Not just shooting. Work too. Anything with machinery. PPEs people. I shoot and work a factory job for around 90 hours a week. My hearing and eye sight are well protected at all times.

fan9775 They work fine if your outdoors, if your in an indoor shooting range firing a rifle then you'll probably want something more than the little foam ear plugs. For hunting and outdoor target practice tho they're fine.
My dad is a Vietnam Veteran (Marine Corps tanker) and yep, he definitely suffered a substantial amount of hearing loss. He has to wear hearing aids to be able to even have much of a chance to understand a conversation and even then still can't hear or understand anything that's not spoken clearly and directly.
My theory is that Rick is NOT in a coma but he has NOT found his family. His family died only a couple days after the apocalypse began and his friends did as well, he knows it. He has created his family in his imagination and different characters to help him get through the apocalypse. He has gone insane during this time and the only way to help deal with it is to imagine his family and his friends that died as well.

I shot a tiny target pistol at an indoor range without hearing protection. I had my handguns lined up from 22 to 44 to see what is unbearable. I couldn't hear for half an hour from the 22. Admittedly indoor ranges are an echo chamber, but still, a 22 fucking wrecked me I couldn't step up to the next shot because I didn't want to risk my hearing.
What a stupid experiment to do, you could've easily built an on rail system and fired the shots from a far away distance with a pulley system or just used a decibel recorder. Jesus...

Not at all. Walking dead is still one of the top shows on tv. It could be much better though. Negans censorship will likely destroy it though. More viewers also dulls the show somewhat because there are a lot more casual viewers that keep character developement from progressing for more air time, etc. HBO turning it down because of violence is bullshit.
Watching this bc I’m rewatching the walking dead, but this reminds me; at one point, Daryl is able to differentiate between walker footsteps and human footsteps (sometime during either the 5th or 6th season it is talked about). If he had considerably lost his hearing like the others have, he wouldn’t be able to do things like that. Having the crossbow instead of a gun helps him MORE with his tracking skills

Finally they can not walk for ever a body in function needs to spend energy so they burn they own organism (in the same way that the people does when they get trapped in a cave, island, etc)

I always thought this was weird. How come the zombies make 0 sound when they are off camera. In a lot of scenes the zombie pops around the corner or they pop up right behind the characters, and they make no sound before you see them.

Seriously guys. When you go shooting, always have your ears and eyes with you. ALWAYS. And preferably a hat of some kind as well to prevent stuff from going over your glasses and getting into your eyes that way.
Not just shooting. Work too. Anything with machinery. PPEs people. I shoot and work a factory job for around 90 hours a week. My hearing and eye sight are well protected at all times.

How zombies are supposed to be raised from the dead creatures suffering from necrosis (as most zombies SEEM to be rotting corpses) and yet are able to (apparently) live for years WITHOUT ROTTING INTO NOTHINGNESS.
