Dave Grohl's first show with Nirvana.
All footage before "Love Buzz" was unseen prior to September of 2016. Far shot footage in the 2-Cam mix
of "Love Buzz" is also new (I made the choice to mix the new footage w/ AMT1 which was close and made for a better overall video).
Thanks to M.J. at Livenirvana for capturing and sharing the new footage.
Full audio for this show is in circulation. The Nirvana live guide has the full setlist: www.nirvanaguide.com/1990.php
Sliver is......interesting.

What a genuinely great band Nirvana was.
Yes, sadly so. Looking at bands now, and the stuff my son listens to at the age I first heard Nirvana is sad. The world needs another Nirvana. I don't care if I'm sixty when it happens, but we need another Nirvana!
always wanted to be in the next nirvana its my band lol :P
Next Nirvana is coming... just the right time and right place.
CHUCKYLOSTIT me too 😁
simon Na man finish mate👋👦🏡😎
Why hasn't there been a decent Beatles Anthology style documentary been made about Nirvana? There is clearly enough useable footage!
Paul Charters tell me about it. There is a ton of footage!!!
Verse chorus verse is a really good documentary, very accurate, love the speakers voice and has a good soundtrack
Uses video from this show in the beginning of part 4
Would you count Montage of Heck as a documentary?
@@Bellocks1 Not according to Buzz of the Melvins...
Dave's Snare Drum Head breaks at the beginning of Dive. Amazing how he pulls off by playing the rest of the Song on the Toms.
theastrocosmonaut amazing version! Fantastic Dive !
When
@@CJ-mn6pw Around 15:10 you can hear him suddenly switch to hitting the toms and no longer hitting the snare.
He was very hype about it , very cool
he was storvin poor thing
It’s incredible how well documented this bands short history is
Awesome to see this from this historic Nirvana gig!
First Dave's show with Nirvana, he broke the snare drum.. That's showed how powerful he hit it
How lucky was this crowd? OMG! They saw the beginning of a powerhouse with Dave on drums! We are so lucky someone filmed this for posterity and we get to see it now!
Thanks to whoever recorded this and to whoever posted this. I am forever grateful! This is powerful and stunning! Nirvana was Legendary!
😎👏🏻🎸
It was just another night in our scene.
That club had a great run, we hosted everyone from Bad Brains to Greenday and countless others.
One year Kurt was opening for friend bands & the next year, friends were opening for them.
Wrong idea about life my friend. If they thought this was something special they'd be sitting still just watching not nearly having as much gun
@Brian Cannon
Not having nearly enough Gun? Interesting Freudian slip there.
The Gun is what ended the Fun!
A ShotGun to be exact. And he sang that he didn’t have one. But he did.
Boom! 💥 The end! The end of him and the end of Grunge.
One Shotgun Blast 💥 put an end to it all. 😳🥺😖😩😵💫😵☠️🤬
@Matthew Parsons
I’m just glad someone recorded it for posterity and so I can see it! 🥹
@Matthew Parsons
Yes, well you we’re lucky then. Where I’m from there’s no viable local music scene. Just a lot of corner Bars locally owned and the owners play the Radio 📻 or Stereos. No body bothers with live Bands playing.
So we have nothing really.
So to me to hear original live music that’s actually good is amazing!
👏🏻🎸
Probably Kurt's best live 'In Bloom' solo I've heard. Sounded identical to the record on this one : )
Haha :D
Seriously.
church
Agreed 👍
Won't find another one where he's concentrating on nailing it to that degree. It's interesting, maybe keeping it tight for the new drummer?
Dave brought them to a level that I don’t think Kurt even thought they could reach.
I agree, Daves precise hardcore punk drumming was the final component to their sound. A sloppy, "feel" drummer couldn't have done it. The machine-like drive made them be as tight as they were definitely
@@lippi2171 Yea, Kurt style was already sloppy so they needed a powerful and precise drummer like Dave
Dave brought queens of the stone age and killing joke to that next level also.
Check out Dave's "God's Look Down". He's a beast.
This is a legendary show! The debut of Dave Grohl on drums! And you can hear how hard he hits the drums! It just lifts the band to another level above everyone else! He powers the songs home! Unreal! But Great! This is when people were starting to realize this band was going to be huge!
After this they toured Europe and started drawing more and more people to the shows and people started to sing along to the songs! They were getting incredibly popular because the songs were so good and powerful!
He played louder but Chad had better chops😊👍 dave only wrote a few great nirvana drumming moments in nirvana in comparison to. Chad and dale
@@dynjarren7523 They didn't explode because Dave joined, they exploded because they got a major label record deal and Kurt changed his songwriting style in a more pop direction. They would have been just as big with Chad, Dale, or whoever Kurt wanted on drums.
Scottie Wallace I’d have to agree. Chad in my opinion was the better drummer. I think Dave just jelled with Kurt’s and Krist’s style more though.
@@madhatter8508 False. They exploded because Dave Grohl joined.
I always said this ... Its like they told em, hey man, we dont have enough money to mic up drums, and we are playing in front of 5k... Beat them drums like they owe you money if you wanna be heard...... BUt in all honesty, it added to what the nirvana sound became.. It would have had that raw sound without the drums being played that hard.. Just like little things kurt did on his down strokes on power chords (hitting extra 2 strings creating a harmonic) made his own sound
14:30 that guy have some real fun !!
lol meeeeee
I've always seen Kurt with this haircut in pictures, but never with the live shots. Pretty fuggin' neat!
OK Mr hair fan!!! 😂😂😂😂
It’s crazy how much better Dave grohl made that band.
Holy shit! If you wear headphones you can hear how hard Dave hits that snare until it splits.
18:18 is that the famous "We have a new drummer and he's very good!" moment?
Yeah
Actually I was searching for tHat Thanks
@@MJraviteja stop where did we hear that phrase? I remember tgat but don't remember where from

If I could time travel to any point in time I’d go to a nirvana show. I know that would seem like a waste to a lot of people but not to me. As a drummer, guitarist, and bassist music is very important to me and nirvana is the band that introduced me to it. When I was no older than 3 or 4 in the car my dad would play nirvana and Metallica on the radio and I would love it. For my ninth birthday I got a drum set (which I begged for for months). Nirvana represents freedom to do whatever you want whenever the fuck you want to me. I was born in 2006, so I never got to see them live. I wish I could have seen them live just once. Even just one song.
I was born in the mid-80's. All my favorite bands were dead bands my dad was introducing me to as well. I empathize. Sadly, I didn't discover any of the 'Seattle' scene until '97-'98 so again, all my favorite bands are the dead ones...with rare exception (notably QOTSA, the best living rock band, imho).
I always wanted to play drums. Nirvana made me finally do it. I saw them live once. I barely remember it because I was so drunk. Stupid choices as teen. What I do vividly remember was seeing Foo Fighters 1st show ever in Nyc at a tiny club called Tramps. Only a few hundred people. That show is burned into my memory.
Cobain and Anselmo were my favorite singers in those days. Hell -still are.
"In Bloom" being a new song is wild to hear Kurt say, but it's pretty clear the song is legendary, immediately.
Its an old song actually, theres footage of playing it with Chad, and they actually recorded an early version with Chad.
I was there. great footage.
You’re all lying. How do i know?? Cos i was there
@@Shagleythat doesn’t mean anything you weren’t the only one In the audience
that impro on dive from dave was kinda cool...
amazing..! thanks for the upload.
wow legendary show!!!!thx for uploading!
I think I was there that night. I still remember it and this helps so thank you!
Thank you very much!!!
I don't understand how new footage like this remains undiscovered
Young guys! Thanks again for this another fantastic version of this amazing day!
omg thank you!!
THANKS to whoever filmed it!!! THanks so much!!!
Thanks for not having commercials in the beginning and in between songs!
Thank you for the extended cut. I was there that night & had no idea what these new songs were lol.
lol Kurt's next level cut ... gorgeous understatement. Thanks for editing in the newer footage i'll take it...
04:41 AM .... I'm close to turning 40 .... stay away nostalgia .... I miss that time when everything was simpler... thanks a lot for the video.
Thank you❤
...for documentary, just Know
This show kicks ass. You really can tell the difference in the energy with Grohl in this performance.
Holly shit, Kurt's actually playing a Mosrite during this show, and it's his Gospel!!!
This is grohls first gig
Such great footage, I wasn't even born yet ! Wish I could've been there
Love Buzz was frickin fun. Still see this building sometimes. Cool stuff.
Great stuff, we get to see surfin' action.
Man, never stop to do that plz
Amazing! Very young and talented guys.
This is gold! We love you daaavve
This is one of my favorite shows, I just wish they would release it in good quality. Thanks so much for making this!
That drumhead Dave threw into the crowd might worth thousands of dollars today! Lucky bastard who got it!
@@lawrenceofolympia That's Dave Grohl first show.
It was Dave's first show with Nirvana, not his first show.
@@lawrenceofolympia exactly, that is what it says in the title.
I got it. Never selling it
@@briancannon3987 awesome! You should get it autographed by Dave.
thank you man ;)
ohhoooooo!!! gracias!!
Dave breaking the snare head reminds me of how he almost didn't play the Unplugged show cause he couldn't drum soft enough until he went out and got those red and white sticks.
I'm going to sound stupid for this but what did the red and white sticks do?
They're brush sticks, google "hot rod" drum sticks and you'll get it.
Bowser Jr. hot rods have more attack than brushes but are softer sounding than sticks, they are just all bundles of thin sticks that diffuse the impact
Butch Vig said the only song Dave struggled with when recording nevermind was something in the way. He said he'd start playing subdued but by the end he was right back to making the drums crack. When playing the song live Dave didnt hold back most of the time. Those hot rod sticks he used for unplugged really put him in check. If he had used those like his other sticks they'd explode to pieces immediately.
@@legatomodi3522 also he struggled with lithium cause he kept speeding up, and then kurt got frustrated and that’s when they played endless nameless, but long story short, butch had Dave play with a metronome.
Kurt could play feedback.
Thank you for the video!
What a great morning. New Nirvana show, some marijuna. Thanks Alternative Copperpot5, keep up the good work. The Swede
inbloom solo😍😍
that's killer to see Dave's first show.

Time keeps on ticking
Kurt is/was the only person who can scream into a microphone like that.
Amazing performance to be caught on video tape
Love Buzz! Best version ever!
Dave just fits the band better then what Chad did plus Dave was a very heavy hitter an that goes great with the type of music Nirvana played.. Nothing against Chad because that man did come up with the iconic Drum beat to in bloom
They sounds good, i think they will go far. Good luck guys
Lol you know he’s gone right?

Qué lindo hubiese sido estar ahí! Que buena onda🤙
Imagine being at this set!!! Omg that would’ve been epic! Too bad I was 10 at this time.
I was there, and at many , many shows at this little sweatbox
Único, el mejor como disfruta y se hace uno con la guitarra 🎸.
Awesome!!!
11:05 Ese solo de In Bloom con ese efecto Delay suena genial
beautiful
Feel the swell of Nirvana in their Electric Conveyance.
Dave Grohl was a grunt as a drummer for Nirvana. It's like he just kept drilling those sticks with a purpose of controlled chaos. Krist was mixture of Shaggy from Scooby Doo meets Keanu Reeves from Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventures. And Kurt...well we all know what Kurt meant to us all Generstion Xers & Xennials individually. Kurt was whatever what we wanted us to perceive him as.
KILLER!!!
COOL!!!!! NICE ERA 1990!!!!
This is...like...WOW!
fun fact : wherever he is, krist never miss a note.
LOVE IT¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
Love so much.😍💕💕💕
29 years ago. Wow.
Judging by Kurt’s lyrics, this was back when Stay Away was still Pay To Play and Breed was still Imodium.
nice^^
I now work in this building. It's pretty cool.
Its hardly recognizable to me now, only been home twice since the earthquake, so much change.
Dave went into maximum overdrive on Scoff
Kurt’s voice wasn’t the best here but it is cool to see this historic footage. As others said, really good in bloom solo and there’s not much footage of Kurt with this haircut
His voice? lol what about the audio recording? 😂
Scoff is just so badass
Stay Away was called Pay To Play until 1991.
I DON'T KNOW WHY!
i still sing along with pay to play as the lyrics
Mannn...
My GAWD!!! the bleach era stuff with Dave..
Like Scoff 🥰🥰🥰🤘🎸🤘🎸🤘😳😳😳✊✊✊
Awesooooome
Check out the docu on their British -it’s awesome!
Not gonna lie I thought dave was stage diving at 2:20...nevermind me lol
happy birthday dave
god bless this cameraman
Krist is in the T-shirt with King Crimson's pic, nice :)
Damn, who has that drum head Dave tossed into the crowd??? What a fucking unique and awesome piece of memorabilia to have.
I'm pretty certain that the picture of Kurt on the inside of the cd booklet in Incesticide is from this show.
To think this was 10 minutes away and could have seen them in the beginning...lived only about 1/2 mile from Curt when he lived downtown Oly
WTF is amazing 4EVR KURT & NIRVANA♥
09/22/2020. 30th anniversary of this show
I like the "electronic garbage"
sounds like it would’ve been an intro
I'll comment on Nick's King Crimson shirt. Very cool
This happened on my birthday.
