Great review and so insightful for those of us not personally familiar with the brand via ownership. Side note: this is the first generation where I’d readily choose the regular RR over the Sport. Excellent to hear comparisons from such an experienced Range Rover owner! Although I’m sure you’re already planning it, would love to have a thorough review on the L405 PHEV before the trade-in that I can definitely see coming from this video. Keep up the excellent work as always!
As a huge fan of streamline modern design, this vehicle has A+ looks, particularly the rear end. And that's something I never thought I'd say about a Range Rover. Massive shout out to the design team who worked on it.
I can’t wait to take one of these out for a ride. They look beautiful and hearing how quiet the new one is makes me really intrigued. Gorgeous. Best SUV on the road? Quite possibly.
Thank you Harry. I have only started this video, 5 seconds & oddly enough this is exactly the kind of video I was wondering when somebody would produce. So, I am going to lean back and and am certain, going to love it.
You’re absolutely right, it looks fabulous, and instantly recognisable as a Range Rover. Disappointing that it’s gained width, I know many successive models do this, but it will upset those who complain/moan/dislike what are classed as SUV’s. Also I know it’s not really what we watch the videos for but the scenery/countryside is beautiful, (I live in central London).
Thanks for another great review Harry. So much more relevant as you have the older version as your daily for direct comparison and the noise tests are again a very useful indicator rather than many reviewers saying its quiet. Handy when you have a farm to test out the off road capabilities on hills and grass with the all season tyres; probably as far as I would take my discovery 5.

Brilliant review Harry, as always! Mine’s currently in build, ordered the day after launch day…….test drove one for a couple of hours the other day, a big improvement even on my current 2021 Westminster. Very excited, hopefully she’ll arrive soon. All the best.
There will be very few people how buy this new Range Rover will ever drive it like you have just done in the video, but just goes to show what a great bit of engineering it is .Thanks Harry
Fantastic review, Harry. Well done. I love my 2007 L322 Supercharged- still going strong at just a bit over 330,000 miles- but this one takes everything to a whole new level. Well done Land Rover!
Been in the new one. Very nice. Will say though that L322 has a better driving position and frankly I still prefer the older interior. Will remain a classic design.
I had one of the last classics 1991 with the VM diesel. I could squeeze 40mpg on a long gentle run. A comfortable road going tractor that worked hard hauling boats on trailers. At 113K , my basket is empty........
As a serial Range Rover owner, you must have put up with quality control ups and downs over the years Harry. I worry that this car has too much tech on it, when it really needs about 25% of this equipment. Really, as you say, it is a wafter, that's what you want from a Range Rover....not the ability to drive the wheels off it on twisty roads. For me its way too big for the Hampshire lanes, and tight car parks...its the size of an aircraft carrier! I prefer your L322 which I believe you still have. I also cant bear these nailed on I pads on the dashboard (which have way too many distractions from watching where you are going) or the cheap looking switchgear. The price is madness too....the waiting list just shows how much spare cash people have these days - Land Rover relieving the gullible of their cash. Having said all that Harry, I am sure you will be updating your car to one of these.
The new model looks great, hopefully the reliability is better now. After my last two RR and all their issues I gave up. If the new model is reliable I would by one in an instant.
Great review as ever. A question regarding reliability. JLR gets panned for the reliability across all products, but most especially the Range Rover range. What is your experience of RR as a long term owner in regards to reliability? Thanks.
Don't buy another Ranger Rover until Jaguar/Land Rover fix or recall a well-known and common exhaust manifold issue they don't want to take responsible for. This issue affects at least 4 models; LR2, EVOQUE, DISCOVERY, FREELANDER. They're having owners pay $7300 repair cost for a poor/defective system they are aware of. If "they" don't know, the entire QC team at JLR should be fired for hiding this fact. The exhaust manifold is a three-piece system; the flange(bolted to the engine head), exhaust pipes welded to the flange and the turbo. The problem is with the design of the exhaust pipes bent too close to the flange where there is no possible way to complete a full-circle weld around the exhaust pipes. This leaves an open space where vibration can start a crack separating the flange and exhaust pipes. At 48K, it can start to develop a small crack and when the crack is big enough where the flange and pipes are separated, you can smell exhaust leak/gas in the engine bay. There is a greater risk here where some owners faced dangerous situation when the engine lost power because the turbo finally seized up. I'm afraid to drive my car long distance until the entire exhaust manifold system is replaced. ATM, I can't afford $7300 repair cost so I'm only traveling short distance. JLR love to market shiny, curvy, and technology-advanced vehicles but won't talk much about reliability - they'll leave that up to be discovered by the owners. Would love to see JLR prove me wrong.
Great review. I like that they have gotten rid of the old rotary gear selector - but the new one is one of those push up or down ones - not as intuitive as the old style stick ones. My main worry with this new model is all the electronics on it(those powered flush door handles, the electric motors on the turbos, etc.) and their long term reliability, especially considering Range Rover's past problems in previous models.
The plastics with the smooth glass like finish are actually high quality injection moulds. Talked with an injection moulder years ago and to get these where they're perfectly flat, with sharp edges, is difficult to do. And with the smooth finish you need someone to polish the moulds by hand. It's a lot higher quality than the rough finished ones, which is a result of the spark erosion when making the moulds. Land Rover aren't cutting corners but giving you the very best. As for the engine, I drove a Defender D300 with a similar engine. It's one of the best engines I've ever driven, and hard to believe it was a diesel. Those engines are the very best you'll find.
@@MrBirgerB Some of the Range Rovers in the US got a poor reputation for reliability, but they had BMW engines! Most unreliable car I've ever had was a BMW, and years on from that experience I've learned enough from it to know that the BMW garage didn't have a clue when diagnosing the problem, and got me to spend money on parts which weren't needed. Shockingly bad service. Merc - They seem good. And Toyota too. Not heard bad stories of Ingenium engines, and a lot of the previous engines were Fords, which are generally reliable.
I was lucky enough to be in one last week, the spool time of those turbos is just amazing. The interior felt smaller, like a Sport but in reality just as big as the L405. The ride was so composed, I do wonder though is it has lost the Grandeur and Stately fell of the L405. Saying that, it was just sublime.
its very interesting at a glance you cant tell them apart at all but the details really add up to a massive difference. Much better designed vehicle to me now
@@chriswoody6768 No I haven't owned a current land rover or range rover . Had a new discovery years ago but the engine destroyed itself just after warranty only 53000 miles on it ! + many other problems as well. Many of my friends have had newer lr rr and have loads of problems ! my friend who is a mechanic says only a fool would buy one. If you get a good one your lucky most are fragile pieces of shit ! Ive had a Land cruiser v8 over 7 years and no probs apart from a front brake calliper and it works on a farm .
A few days ago, I was driving down the highway in light rain when I noticed a blacked-out model was driving alongside me. I must say, it looked like absolutely amazing. It looked like it was a beautiful piece of black granite: strong, sleek, and imperial. JLR went the opposite way of other luxury manufacturers by choosing a more elegant and tasteful design that fits the idea of a luxury vehicle. Always loved Range Rovers, but the changes made with this generation just takes it to the next level in refinement.
Wow, chucking 2+ tonne of big car round tight corners like that... Impressive and scary in equal measure 😁 beautiful car though and as always an excellent and honest review.
Option parcel shelf moving. Volvo gratis. That spare wheel well is where you would have thought they might have hidden the thin cushion for the event backrest
Thanks for the great review! Fully agree, it is a fantastic car. I was lucky to get a P530 delivered already and I simply love it. Unbeatable mixture of great design, comfort/luxury and up-to-date technology. It feels like a modern but very comfy home and in dynamic with the grumbling V8 it is even fun to drive on a sporty note. Thought I would miss the sound of an louder V8 like the RR Sport SVR, but inside it sounds very nice and refined and it suits the car very well. I really like it. Before I had an Audi SQ7, but the P530 is simply another level. Well done Land Rover.
Did you opt for 22" or 23" wheels? I heard from some reviewers that the 23" make it a bit of a bumpy ride. Also, are you happy with the V8? I'm debating between that one and the 6-cylinder. Once again some reviewers said the V8 makes it a less smooth ride with little benefit over the 6-cyl.
the cullinan is meant to be timeless, you keep a Rolls for >10 years and it's everything its meant to be the whole time. this here, cute but we don't know when the novelty will wear out. remember XF and XJ launching with everything touch sensitive and rotating? where is all that now?
@@katisop5991 What are you on about? The Cullinan looks like a taxi. Thats not timeless - its hideous and almost everyone agrees. What have touch sensitive controls got to do with it?
@@katisop5991 Well yes. The problem is a lot of the other 1% also don't like it. The sales figures tell it all. While it may be fastest selling Rolls Royce, its still miles behind its competition and lets be honest the Bentayga is no oil painting either.
Another excellent review by Harry. There is something very positive about this vehicle that until this review, I couldn't quite put my finger on. Amongst the four nations of the UK, there is something that the English were particularly good at, but had for a long time, had seemed to have been lost. That is luxury coupled with class and refinement. Coach-building was one of those areas. Take a look at the old traction engines, steam engines and early lorries. Almost all had intricate detail, polished brass and copper and go back to actual carriages pulled by horses which formed the basis for that detail and it is very apparent. This new Range Rover espouses those qualities in a very modern way. Even as a staunch Welshman, it is good to see that the English are finally showing their talents again. Whilst actually English, the original Defender had a very much Welsh character and its relationship with Wales was quite a romantic one. Perhaps because of its conception in Wales. This latest Range Rover however, really is very English - in a good way. It was the very last scene of the video that really brought it home for me.
Absolutely everyone I have met who has owned a Range Rover has said “Never Again. Worst car I’ve ever owned”. The “reliability” is horrendous. More reviews should talk about that.
Great review as usual Harry. I would be interested to know how the L460 compares to the L322 in everyday and farm duties. I assume you still have your L322 for good reason? There seems to be a massive L322 following and many see it as the last 'proper' Range Rover while the L405 and L460 seem more car like. I get the L322 is a couple of generations old but I would value seeing a comparison video of it with the L405 and the L460. Many thanks.
Great I don’t know why it seems that the L322 seems somehow the one which symbolises the most the last proper Range Rover ( face 😊) I have 2 of them will get rid of one of them to get the L405 … and who knows the 460 … but bit too luxurious expensive & heads turner … best to wait …
Superb car. Each generation of RR has just improved on perfection. I'm really glad they didn't go with extreme looks the rest all seem to do, seemingly doing mansory's work for them.
I have to agree they hit it out of the ballpark in designing this car, especially the rear end which is fantastic with the integrated lights where they are almost not seen until they light up.
Gorgeous car as all Range/Land Rovers are. I live in the Middle East (and have done for 15 years) and own a 2008 LR3 4.4 V8 HSE and 2013 Range Rover Sport 5.0 V8 Supercharged (also own a 2010 Ford Expedition 5.4 V8). Bought all second hand at 2-3 years old for 10-15 cents in the dollar. All great but the LR3 and RRS are both amazing!! The LR and RR need cared for like an expensive mistress but if you do look after them, like an expensive mistress, you will be rewarded with something beyond a mere driving experience. BUT a new RR is now over QR 600k (!50k sterling) here and simply out of contention even for an ex-pat. I will wait for 3 years and maybe buy one at 30 cents in the dollar.
@@hamzab3659 I have lived here for over 13 years as an ex-pat. I work here and am on an indefinite contract. D6 MHEV uses a BISG (Belt Integrated starter generator) to torque fill, it doesn't have 'little electric motors to spool up the turbos' The petrol 6 cylinder does have an electric super charger though which backs up the engine turbo to reduce lag and torque fill at low rpm.
Love your reviews Harry, but with this vehicle I can never escape the saying coined in Africa, you can drive a Range Rover into the desert, but you will need a Toyota Land Cruiser to get back out
Do you live in Africa? If so, buy Toyota all day long. This car serves a completely different market and that level of reliability is not required (although yes it would be nice to have). To get something to be that reliable you have to make design compromises (i.e. simplify) - and the RR target market is not interested in those.
My Dad told me this saying about RRs/Landcruisers in the mid 1970s in Australia 🇦🇺 . Variant: RRs are such great cars that 70% ever made are still on the road… the other 30% made it back to the garage 😀.
I can't quite contemplate buying one of these, unfortunately, but beautiful as this new machine is the thought of all that electronic sophistication and the perceived reliability of this brand would give me pause for thought. A friend of mine who does operate in this territory recently traded his LR in because of dealer issues - and bought a Toyota such was his thirst for reliability.
Strange that there is still not an all electric version of the Range Rover. It's perfectly suited for conversion, since it's massive and heavy anyway and a lot of them are used solely as Town Rovers anyway.
@@BiggestSellout Yes, it is. But very late to the party and it seems all because they are scared. Every Range Rover still has to be able to cross the Sahara in their mind.
@Richard Harrold Oh give me a break look how many Tesla's have come onto the road within 3-4 years. You can even see it with heritage brands like BMW they're doing EV's Harry only recently reviewed the BMW I4 which is a Tesla Model 3 rival. So this idea that they don't work is frankly bs most motorway service stations have high voltage charging infrastructure. That and fuel prices at the moment are going to drive BEV sales not decrease it £1.70 per litre of unleaded when I filled up today.
Wht a difference between this and my 1974 version!! I no longer drive but I still love all things automotive. This I might say, is probable the first video where I have paused so many times. Of course we need expert opinion and certainly none better than Farmer Harry for this one. But really nothing needs to be said as this is probably the finest UV ever produces. By returning to pure, gimmick free engineering, this vehicle would grace any vehicle design show worldwide. They have taken what others are doing, and rather than try to improve their designs, they have gone their own way and simply outstripped everyone by miles....Harry already is!!!! Well done Land Rover and well done Harry. This vehicle will be come an icon, Harry already is!!!!😀
The Discovery5 is the real descendant of the original Range Rover in concept. This RR and even the RR Sport are now competing directly as alternatives to the Mercedes S Class and other luxury saloons and SUV’s such as the Bentayga. The Discovery 5 has all the ability, luxury and performance that 90% of drivers of such vehicles could ever really need. If only its back end was more classy.
Love the new steering wheel with the 4 spokes, harking back to the original and early 80s RRs. I have an X5 (7seats) as felt better value, better engine, but NOTHING makes you feel like a RR does. Pretend your frie do with the Queen 👸
Thanks Harry. My local dealer has me booked in for a test of the V8, however they are a bit scarce. Now I have seen your review perhaps I should look at other engine options. Still going to open my wallet for one, but being old school I still want to drive before I buy.
Ahhh lovely I must say that I’m impressed by this Range Rover. It gives an instant “must have” desire. Maybe the best Range Rover so far. All I need are some money and maybe a farm.
22-23" wheels, bet tyres are cheap 😲 And Im far to impatient for electric boot opening and its just something else to go wrong. That said, I'm a plebb. The design is excellent though, really looks good though (for an urban tractor). Years ago I did the calculations to power a rotrex supercharger with a motor; electronic turbo is giving me ideas now batteries are higher density and more readily available 🤩
Let's hope the reliability is improved over the previous model, seems as soon as the warranty expires they throw up some big bills and with most Land Rover main dealers £200-£300 an hour buying a lemon can be a very expensive lesson.
I'd like to see a RR Ranch version. Set up for dirt, mud, carrying stuff, hosing it down, inside and out, and not worrying about messing up the seats. Probably much like the RR Classic
Great review. I have the same color scheme and wheels on my build but with caraway interior. It's replacing a 4th gen Range Rover which was rock solid reliable. Hopefully this one is the same. LR did a great job designing this car - very subtle and super clean. I'll be interested in the feel of the new engine - the old one had some pretty significant lag from the supercharger.
good to see an engine powered vehicle back on the channel - not keen on all those electric go karts you've been featuring recently - good work - keep it up
There is no doubt in anyone's mind that the Range Rover line is and has been the best-looking line of SUVs the world has ever known. The problem is that they are not reliable. They break all the time.
Really do like the design alot, especially the rear end, very smart looking. Think this is first range rover that can switch between RWD and AWD as well probably why better on fuel then previous models
Another great review Harry & always good to see a RR in a field as well as seeing how well it behaves on the road! Hope you are going to review the new Sport in the future as well?
Range rovers and the defenders are getting stupidly expensive! sadly image and reliability dont back it up. I know its a taste thing but i think they look really ugly as well. Two of my next door neighbours had the last model range rover and they spent more time in the garage than on the road😂👍
Whilst I've always been a fan of range rovers, honestly I can think of 108,500 reasons I'd not want one, I mean even at half that price it'd be far too expensive IMHO.

Lovely! Great review as always. I have been a subscriber since almost when your channel started, and never been disappointed. I remember spotting the first EVO magazine when it appeared in my local newsagent and reading the review on the Aston. Thank you Harry.
Loved the taking of that corner at full security detail speed!
Brilliant review Harry, as always! Mine’s currently in build, ordered the day after launch day…….test drove one for a couple of hours the other day, a big improvement even on my current 2021 Westminster. Very excited, hopefully she’ll arrive soon. All the best.
I really had to get used to the new steering around round abounds for the new model.
How much did it set you back of you part ex? 🤯
I loved my L405. If I had the money I would certainly be buying one of these,it looks fantastic.
Every Sunday for years and years this guy never lets me down we appreciate you @HarrysGarage
The new RR looks a great step foward on the previous model just hope that there have been improvements on reliability too!
L322 is the prize imo
"The Swiss Army Knife of Cars" sums it up brilliantly - great review!
The new model looks great, hopefully the reliability is better now. After my last two RR and all their issues I gave up. If the new model is reliable I would by one in an instant.
It's a land rover, what do you think?
I've just come across your channel and I have to say what a brilliant review and superb presentation.
Trust me
Most comments you hear are from toyota fan boys.
People just face some display glitches and bugs and rate this car less then others
As usual the definitive real world review from Harry
Most important thing about those engines is long term reliability.
@@MrBirgerB Indeed, and no reason to have any worries so far.
Too bad they’ll look like crap within 5 minutes of use
@@johnsim3722 you think they can hold up against BMW, Merc or Toyota reliabilitywise?
Casual Morgan Aero Supersports at 15:02 - just Burford things...
Really enjoy your reviews. Well spoken and balanced. Real world stuff.
Thanks!
Great review Harry. Main question is - are you ordering the D350 or waiting for the full hybrid?
its very interesting at a glance you cant tell them apart at all but the details really add up to a massive difference. Much better designed vehicle to me now
Great review as always ! reliability is the elephant in the room .
Yes, why would you buy a Range Rover with their terrible reliability?
There's multi year waiting lists for this new one.
I assume you haven't owned a current Land Rover. They're no more or less reliable than any other higher end brand.

Elegant and able. And that's just Harry! 😊
How Harry hasn’t got 1 million + subscribers I don’t know! THE BEST CAR CHANNEL ON RUclips!!
In an age of monstrous German over styling. I love the British restraint with this sophisticated Range Rover.
TGE, is that you?
Good to hear, collect my 530 tomorrow too
Did you opt for 22" or 23" wheels? I heard from some reviewers that the 23" make it a bit of a bumpy ride.
Also, are you happy with the V8? I'm debating between that one and the 6-cylinder. Once again some reviewers said the V8 makes it a less smooth ride with little benefit over the 6-cyl.
@@BARATTI99 No ;-)

That back end is what the Cullinan should have looked like.
the cullinan is meant to be timeless, you keep a Rolls for >10 years and it's everything its meant to be the whole time.
this here, cute but we don't know when the novelty will wear out. remember XF and XJ launching with everything touch sensitive and rotating? where is all that now?

Only two Range Rover reviews really needed…..Harry and Doug! Thanks Harry.
Absolutely everyone I have met who has owned a Range Rover has said “Never Again. Worst car I’ve ever owned”. The “reliability” is horrendous. More reviews should talk about that.
No matter how old, the big Range Rover interiors never seem to age, always timeless looking
@@Kassiusday agreed 405 is intriguing but I love my 322 supercharged
Superb car. Each generation of RR has just improved on perfection. I'm really glad they didn't go with extreme looks the rest all seem to do, seemingly doing mansory's work for them.
I love my L405 but this looks fabulous.
I'll wait 5 years until the reaper of depreciation does his work for me. 🙂
Great car. Well done Land Rover. I always run a Range Rover and will be getting one of the new ones. Thanks Harry.
Bicester Shopping Village is going to need to widen their parking bays
I have to agree they hit it out of the ballpark in designing this car, especially the rear end which is fantastic with the integrated lights where they are almost not seen until they light up.
I can't believe how expensive new cars have become!
I've been waiting for your review Harry. Well worth the wait andvery thorough. Thank you.
If you live permanently there and not for a limited period of time due to a contract, then you aren’t an expat, you’re an immigrant.
@@hamzab3659 I have lived here for over 13 years as an ex-pat. I work here and am on an indefinite contract. Great review of a quintessentially British masterpiece. Bravo Gerry McGovern and team.
Well as they have resurfaced the road up from Fulbrook, it would be rude not to check out the workmanship! Great video as always…..
Love your reviews Harry, but with this vehicle I can never escape the saying coined in Africa, you can drive a Range Rover into the desert, but you will need a Toyota Land Cruiser to get back out
That was also said by Farmers in Australia, you can drive a RR into the Bush, but you will need to drive a Toyota Land Cruiser to get you back home.
The fully electric version will be available in 2024.

If only its back end was more classy.
perfectly summed up
Love the new steering wheel with the 4 spokes, harking back to the original and early 80s RRs. I have an X5 (7seats) as felt better value, better engine, but NOTHING makes you feel like a RR does. Pretend your frie do with the Queen 👸
Who wouldn’t want one?
World class vehicle, world class journalist. Thank you Harry
Thanks Harry. My local dealer has me booked in for a test of the V8, however they are a bit scarce. Now I have seen your review perhaps I should look at other engine options. Still going to open my wallet for one, but being old school I still want to drive before I buy.
Love that quote, ‘The Swiss Army knife of cars’.👌
Ahhh lovely
I must say that I’m impressed by this Range Rover. It gives an instant “must have” desire.
Maybe the best Range Rover so far.
All I need are some money and maybe a farm.
If you wave at the folks rolling into the Country Club for golf, maybe they will wave at you and you put a photo of that in your Instagram.

And the obligatory gilet
And premium breakdown cover
Damn that last footage of the car going past those trees is so.... elegant. I thought i was seeing a commerical! Great Review!!
Perfect engine for such a car. The old Range Rover looks better though in my opinion.
Harry,s review’s are the pick of the bunch.
Old is best
Love your work Harry! The world's most sophisticated Hooligan
I really like the style and shape of the steering wheel.
I'd like to see a RR Ranch version. Set up for dirt, mud, carrying stuff, hosing it down, inside and out, and not worrying about messing up the seats. Probably much like the RR Classic
Good afternoon.
Great review. I have the same color scheme and wheels on my build but with caraway interior. It's replacing a 4th gen Range Rover which was rock solid reliable. Hopefully this one is the same. LR did a great job designing this car - very subtle and super clean. I'll be interested in the feel of the new engine - the old one had some pretty significant lag from the supercharger.
good to see an engine powered vehicle back on the channel - not keen on all those electric go karts you've been featuring recently - good work - keep it up
Classy, refined, handled the corners really well, a British icon. The Range Rover was pretty impressive too.
The pricing is utterly ridiculous.
Why are you complaining? It's a luxury car.
Perfect Sunday viewing.
Whilst I've always been a fan of range rovers, honestly I can think of 108,500 reasons I'd not want one, I mean even at half that price it'd be far too expensive IMHO.
