CASIO WATCHES: 50 Years of Casio Watch Highlights in 10 Minutes

  • Yes I know I'm cheating to get to 50 years as the casiotron came out in 1974, but it was commissioned in 1972, so its totally 50 years.... My Rise of Casio series totalled out at over 2 hrs of content, which I presume is probably a bit too much for the masses, so I set myself the challenge of boiling it down to 10 minutes.
    We cover the origins of casio in the world of calculators. The 70s with the original casiotron models with alarm, chronograph and world time. The 80s with calculator watches, sensor watches, the original g-shock square and some 80s tactic designs like the F-15. We cover the 90s and the true risk of G-shock with Master of G and the Frogman as well as other sub-brands like Protrek. 2000s-2020 where it all gets ridiculous with Master models like the mudmaster, gravity master gulf master and such - as well as the world of radio controlled watches. If you enjoy this whistle stop version - do check out the full rise of casio series I've done.
    If you really enjoy - consider buying me a coffee at: www.buymeacoff...
    70s: 0:35
    80s: 01:15
    90s: 04:01
    2000s: 06:09
    2010s: 08:07
    The references are listed throughout if you want to check out the original work.

      Yes except many of early Casio's were just a Seiko hommage,one example is Casio Royale which was a blatant copy of iconic G757 earned a shit tone of money for Casio!!
      Yet it so easily to crap on Chinese brands for copying Casio!!

    • @IlluminatingWatches
      @IlluminatingWatches  Год назад

      I think the casio royale was released in 2012 so it’s a homage absolutely, but I don’t think discredits their earlier innovation. Although not the first, their pseudo analogs like the AA-85 were amongst the more innovative options. I’m not aware of too many out and out seiko copies from them , but I’m sure I could be mistaken!! But absolutely , seiko were the real drivers in early days!

    • @harrylane4
      @harrylane4 Год назад

      @@dado380 I never really understood the “royale” thing. The only thing it really has in common is the square display and faux-analogue watch, both of which were on dozens of watches before and after the g757.

    My favorite Casio will always be the Casio DBC150-1 Databank Digital Watch. The version of this watch I had was the DBC50 with only 50 pages of memory. The key feature of this watch was to allow you to schedule appointments then show you what appointments you had next week. I had this watch a long time before cell phones. It also had a calculator, world time, phone numbers, alarm etc.

    The last four or five years Casio has gotten pretty lazy with their technology what they do with their G-Shocks and all their watches is they redo the same watch but they just do it in different colors so you're getting a different different colored watch with the same module they're not doing anything special with their technology anymore they need to start thinking outside the box again

    • @IlluminatingWatches
      @IlluminatingWatches  Год назад

      I do think that you make a very fair point here….Some fun watches but fewer technological leaps. Most of this is more in the smart watch domain with OLED and Micro LED displays , more advanced sensors (love my PRW-30 though) and integration with other technologies. Casio is left more with materials (like the full metal G and various MRG models) and design plays (like the Casioak), although I did like the GBD200 and the MIP display.

    The first watch I ever bought myself was a Casio F-100 at Singapore Airport on my way home to Australia in 1979 when I was 19. I had AUD $30 cash left and chose the F-100 because it was $27. I wore it through the '80s, wore out the strap, replaced it and a few batteries. Then it went in the drawer I think because I was given another watch by a girlfriend. I found it again this year and took it to a repairer out of curiosity. It ran immediately on a new battery, surprising the repairer and delighting me. It now has a smart new plain leather strap and I'm wearing it again. And I've recently bought a Casio AE1200 to recall an old favourite G757 which died around 2000.

      Boo! It’s a pretty early version of their sensor tech. I’ve got a depth gauge - zero idea whether it works or not as no opportunity to test!
