    • @Daggerfall40
      @Daggerfall40 3 года назад +15

      @@BosunM8James So I recommend the classic stainless steel milanese mesh strap from Watchgecko for $34. They're solid and well built but you can look at other places like StrapsCo or even Amazon for somewhat cheaper alternatives.
      Two things to consider when putting it on the A168. The braclet will be heavier than the actual watch itself so the watch may feel weird and unbalanced on your wrist. Secondly, the bracelet doesnt taper from the lugs. Its 18mm wide straight down from the lugs to the clasp. I know some people like that tapered look so just something to consider.

    A true gentlemen, born around the 70s and grown up in the 80s will probably appreciate this classic watch in its true retro origin. Its an extremely subtle, peaceful, quiet and non-aggressive watch. The fact that you can go against the popular-masses views on the usual expensive watches - like most youtubers, I have indeed a new found in-depth respect for you. Value and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It is not found on social media, advertisements and marketing gimmicks. Amongst my collection of APs, Daytonas and blah blah blah, I still find it extremely enjoyable to wear my Casios and Seikos. Wealth is quiet. Rich is loud. Poor is flashy. Well said! Over the past few years I’ve definitely focused on collecting high end pieces, such as the Patek 5170G and others in my small collection but recently I pulled the trigger on a Casio G-Shock as it really brings back memories of one I had as a teenager.

    This watch is probably most popular in my state of Kerala in India. Where you can see everyone who belongs to a 60s- 80s wear these watches. It has to do with the gulf boom that happened in Kerala back in 1960s when there was massive immigration to gulf by keralites to escape proverty and Kerala got rich as the gulf got richer and that 19 dollar Casio was something you'd see on every person from gulf, it was the favourite gift the non immigrants wanted to get from the ones who immigrated and came back home for leave. I've seen that watch on many hands 1000s if not 100s and I remember getting one once and I thought what a Classic piece of work ❤️

Watching some old videos of yours, I really got the feeling that unless you bought the traditional and well stablished brands, you were pretty much wasting money. Kind of like with suits (spicy comparison, I know). Anyways, great video and I'm excited to see the one comparing watches that you mentioned. Keep it up, Brian.

    What you say here is absolutely correct. I've always thought that one doesn't need to spend a lot to be happy. Not saying we should be cheap, but if something cheap catches our fancy then go for it. Ain't nothing wrong with that. Got a few Casio's myself. Funny thing is, despite them usually being the cheapest watches in anyone's collection (if they do have them), they're actually the ones with the most functionality.

    I had that watch when I was in college. It was the watch I got after I thought I had destroyed my grandfather's vintage Wittnauer automatic (I didn't, it just needed a new crystal and a servicing).
    Casios are honest and unpretentious. If you need something functional and you are traveling somewhere you might be concerned about your good watch getting stolen, you can pick up one of these and when the trip is over, you can give it away, or use it as a beater watch. But, IMO, they are not all that attractive. And unless they seriously upgraded the bracelet. I remember the Casio bracelet was folded links. Comfortable but not enjoyable to wear.
    You can't really complain about a watch you can get for less then $20, but for a few bucks more, there are better options.

    One of the most balanced and thoughtful videos I have seen on this subject. I love what you said about real watch enthusiasts who are a million miles separated from forum watch snobs.
    I have some nice watches in my collection including my Grand Seiko but I get equal pleasure from my vintage Timex, Casio and 1980 Seiko LCD watches as I do my GS.
    They all make me feel I’m wearing something that makes my heart sing and that are honest if that makes sense? It’s why I get no joy in homage watches or microbrand watches, they just don’t feel honest to me. I would rather be content looking at the real things but never owning them than wearing an homage to them as it’s just an homage, it will never convey the integrity of the real thin. Your Casio has integrity and I think that contributes greatly to the feeling of joy in wearing it!
