Not only does HE describe well what's happening, the daughter whose voice we hear also has a clear understanding of how the process works. She isn't trying to make him react the way SHE wanted him to. She lets it be all about him. There are so many of these videos in which that isn't the case. Congratulations to him, and congratulations to his intelligent daughter.
I have watched several of these, this is the first time I have heard someone say that they no longer have to spend 'mental energy' distinguishing colors, that gave me a great understand of color blindness and what he sees normally. That is the perfect description.
Thank you for your comment!! You're right--he really described his experience well....I agree that I haven't seen any other video with clear explanations like my dad's!
Great idea to show him flowers, give him paint samples, and take him to the grocery store! In a lot of other videos, they try on the glasses in the most dull scenery with no colours!
I always lol when I see those videos. I watched one where they had the guy try on his glasses in an abandoned parking lot so he could experience color for the first time 😂
His explanation at around 5:10 is a great way of describing what actually happens with red/green colour blindness... the overlap of receptors so that some green receptors fire when seeing red and some red fire when seeing green... so when the two colours are next to each other the brain gets a mishmash of signals. Very cool!
You can easy replicate this green/red mix with simply looking through green lens on red things, and red lens on the green stuff (they go "on top" of one another). Making right eye red and left eye green (or the other way around), is also a good aproximation of this. Best example here would be : Red/green anaglyph glasses. Problem with actual colorblindness is that it makes leafs and bushes with the same "dull" yeallow-ish/light green-ish color (because of lower blue/green pallette), on top of mixing green/red together. That's why seeing trees in more than two/three shades is such a mind blowing experience after putting these glasses on.
i am also colourblind and everything he is refering to, and explaining...everything is pretty accurate! i am also asked very often "how do you see that? and how is that to you? what about this?" ect. ...and it is always hard to tell...but he make some references that correct...like the little red flower in the middle of a lot of green leaves...if you see it, well, you can tell that there is a red flower...but from the distance you barely see it, or you WONT see it...like a bush full of red currants...my brother once said "wow, it looks like on fire! ALL red" and I was like "what? there is nothing red there!" ...then i went closer...and BOOM ...a million little berries and i am looking forward to my enchroma glasses...which i hopefully get soon :)
Thank you for filming so much of his experience. At first I thought they weren't going to work for him, but it just kept getting better and better. He seems so much more carefree and relaxed with them. Good job to the family for getting them. I'm sure your dad is eternally grateful!!
I never realized how our ability to distinguish colors and shades of colors helps us see sharp details in things that are technically all green, but have details. So interesting-- before he just saw a bush, but now he could see that it was a really detailed bush.
YES! That is probably my favorite thing that we learned from the experience. It makes sense! Things looked clearer because he could see more details in the variation of colors!!
Sometimes people describe the difference with the word "vivid". You take that word (didn't hear you use it yet) or idea and expand on it so understandably. Lovely.
His reaction wasn't as drastic as the other videos, but it gave me a good onsite to how my Husband will be when he gets the glasses. He describes the same problems. It's such an awesome chance and experience for people! I can't wait to get them now!
lol He's having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that there is no thinking involved in seeing colors, with normal color vision. No guess work, they just simply ARE.
Yeah it's actually pretty hilarious. I mean I get it though, he's never seen these colors before in his life so it's hard for him to process that there are different contrasts with colors and stuff.
Your dad is excellent in describing what he is seeing. Especially the part about spending mental energy to distinguish objects, while with the glasses everything is easier. We have to thank the primats for our colorvision, they had to know all the fruits and their colors while riping without spending too much energy. Cats and dogs have just two kinds of cone cells (blue and green sensitive), allowing them to see only partial color. We have three!
My response when watching you all is ... tears in my eyes .. I am now in the early 50s, I found my son was color blind when he was 7 years old ... now he is 26 years old... Likewise, I still can't afford to buy him a pair of color blind glasses until now, when I had an accident in 2011 and finally lost my job in 2013 ... I am happy for all of you .... may God bless you all ..... take care of your health ...
This was definitely one of my favorites! His descriptions of things & how he saw them before were fascinating! Very creative ideas with the paint samples, garden section, & grocery store too. Thanks for documenting! 😄👍🎉
The most important thing is what his wife said in the very beginning: his mind is like cement. Then we hear what he is saying in the end: I just went for what I knew because it took to much mental effort to try to figure out new things, His whole approach to life, his cognitive processes were shaped by his color weakness. This is AMAZING! Much like those little kids who had difficulties in school because they needed glasses.
Watching these types of videos makes me realize how much I take for granted all the rich colors around me. I'm going to stop and SEE the roses from now on! God bless this gentleman and his great family!
That was such an interesting video, and I loved seeing his reactions and hearing his descriptions of colors before/after. I wonder if having the new glasses affects your enjoyment of food - I would think seeing the colors of the food makes it more appealing/tastier. Thanks for sharing this, it's fantastic!
Thank you for your comment! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Good question. I don't think he's tried eating while wearing the glasses yet. I agree that it would make a difference!
What a good dude and family. Clearly all very intelligent , articulate and well spoken. Also this video made me realize that non-color blind people think about colorblindness very differently from what it actually is (i think). We think its all about someone not being able to see Red and now they can - but it actually sounds equally about colors borderless-ly bleeding into each other and creating this “blob” effect Anyway thanks a ton for sharing. Great video.
I have watched several of these videos, watching people see things in a whole new light, almost like being reborn in a sense and gaining a greater appreciation for intricacies of nature. I find I have taken so much for granted over the years.
This is the best enchroma video I've seen. The way he describes the juice display in the last minute of the video is really mind-blowing. I would have never thought of color that way
Very, very similar to my son's experience. The first moments he could see little difference, and was disappointed. It didn't help that it was a pretty overcast day. However, he started noticing that things seemed clearer or sharper. It was then that he began seeing some color. By the time he and I went for a walk in my neighborhood, he exclaimed how he'd never known there were orange marigolds (September of last year). His grandpa, my father in law, would have been blessed with these.
Yeah, I'm watching this wishing my granddad could have had a pair, he loved colour but was really quite colourblind. He loved flowers and animals and I wish he could have fully experienced them. And it would have made watching the sports he loved much easier haha
I love watching these reaction videos but this is my favorite! I love that he was skeptical at first and then kept getting more excited about the different colors. So cool!
Thank you for your comment! I too watched others' videos and then I was so excited to give my dad glasses and to make a video about his experience. I am so glad that you enjoyed it!
This is one of my favorite EnChroma reaction videos. Usually people post videos of immediate, emotional reactions, but many people have the exact experience your dad is having. EnChroma works differently for different people and with varying degrees of success (like anything else), and this one type of those reactions. I'm so glad your dad got to experience all the beautiful colors. I praise God for leading the scientists, creating their great minds, and providing a way for people with color blindness to see His beautiful Creation! God bless you all! ❤
I have these glasses and I’ve always found myself having trouble clearly describing how it’s different and he does it perfectly! This is my exact experience. I am glad they were able to help you.

Very interesting description he gives. I tried a pair of these at the Dr's office and she warned me before I tried them , to not expect any change. She was right. My understanding is, you have to be able to see color but not differentiate between some colors for these to work. I'm told I see what normal people see on a black and white TV show. I don't know if that is true. I know that everything is a different brightness but I don't know if that's color. I can remember in elementary school trying to understand what the teacher meant when they told me what color things were. I assumed I was just stupid, so I acted like I understood and agreed with what they told me. I didn't really understand it at first, and maybe I still don't to some degree 40 some odd years later but it did help me realize I wasn't stupid, that there was a reason I didn't understand color and their descriptions. When my daughter was 4, she tried to teach me about color. She cried when I explained I will never see or understand it and that broke my heart that she was hurt that I couldn't. I guess I can't say I miss it, since I have never seen it. It is neat to see the reactions of people that these glasses help and I'm glad they are able to see color better. Great video and thank you for sharing.
Wow, thanks for sharing your story! Right, there are certain types of color blindness the glasses won't work for, unfortunately. The world you see is what you see and that is ok!
Glad they worked! I think I just realized the difference in these videos. Right brained people are emotional, left brain people are analytical with the experience. It might take longer for an analytical person to make sence of it, rather than just let go and experience it. You, on the other hand, sounded more right brained, waiting to feel the joy of him experiencing purple. Whatever the case, this was lovely to watch.
The first wearer that never flipped the glasses up & down! Though I’m sure I’d be guilty of that wanting instant before-after comparisons for everything that I’m seeing. I nice gentleman.
It's no wonder that he thinks he can see better overall. After all that's what vision is - the ability to see color. If we couldn't see any colors, we wouldn't know where anything began or ended.
I'm not sure I understand your comment. I'm told I don't see any color. I'm told I see what normal people see on a black and with TV show. If that is true that I don't see color, I still know where things begin or end, so I'm not sure I know what you mean.
This video makes me so happy!!! I would like to ask you, Did you just have your dad take the colorblind test online on the enchroma website and order them with that being the only test he took? My dad told me and my siblings that he is colorblind since we were kids but doesn't mention it much and after coming across a video on RUclips I started watching more of these videos and had him take the test, and he is Mild Deutan. I would like to buy him the glasses as a surprise but questioning if I should take him to the nearest enchroma Eye Center.
Hi! Glad you liked it! It sounds like a similar situation. He always told us he was colorblind. I had him take the test on the Enchroma website and it said he was a moderate deutan. And so then I just ordered the glasses and they worked! So I think it will work for your dad -- I don't think there is a need to take him to an eye center. Good luck!!
He is very articulate and good at describing his perception.
I agree, thank you!
To me His reaction seems very slow.
I agree, he really put it into words how I feel. I'm finally getting my pair tomorrow and this really gives me some hope for them.

these videos amaze me... i'm so happy for him
Love these videos. I don't know I have very good color vision but when I first started taking St John's wort I colors became more vivid.
Very down to earth guy, he enjoys big time, in his way
Ok, I found the perfect video, this amazing
I always want yard like that so amazing and peaceful
I feel so happy for him. 😀
The first wearer that never flipped the glasses up & down! Though I’m sure I’d be guilty of that wanting instant before-after comparisons for everything that I’m seeing. I nice gentleman.
Your dad have the same marvelous voice than Alan Rickman.....
Otherwise, I'm so happy for him !!!
This is a nice video. I'm so happy for you!
Where on earth are you located? That place is a majestic oasis, the green and the forrest feel is super satisfying Ps. Great video

Where do you live? The area is gorgeous!
Great video!
Glad you liked it!!
Fantastic!!!
great video...*magnificent* peonies!
if you didnt have the sound on, this video would be 'George Harrison describes his garden and then goes shopping.'
It's no wonder that he thinks he can see better overall. After all that's what vision is - the ability to see color. If we couldn't see any colors, we wouldn't know where anything began or ended.
Right, it's all about the shades!
I'm not sure I understand your comment. I'm told I don't see any color. I'm told I see what normal people see on a black and with TV show. If that is true that I don't see color, I still know where things begin or end, so I'm not sure I know what you mean.
This vid is awesome!!!!
Thank you!!!
Sir Paul McCartney sees color!

This man should write.
Going to the grocery store was a really interesting idea
Good luck!!
