- Simon Pegg as Gary King in The World's End has been one of the biggest success characters of British cinema. Gary is just hilarious, surprisingly heartfelt and the funniest of the Cornetto Trilogy. If you don't trust us, come and see it for yourself!
The World's End (2013) SYNOPSIS: Gary King (Simon Pegg) is an immature 40-year-old who's dying to take another stab at an epic pub-crawl that he last attempted 20 years earlier. He drags his reluctant buddies back to their hometown and sets out for a night of heavy drinking. As they make their way toward their ultimate destination -- the fabled World's End pub -- Gary and his friends attempt to reconcile the past and present. However, the real struggle is for the future when their journey turns into a battle for mankind.

To anyone who hasn't seen this movie: Please do it. Preferably multiple times because of all the subtle foreshadowing. It's worth it.
So many layers in the movie. One viewing is never enough.
I love this film. It's hilarious
Exactly
Arcien well said
Agreed
I think what makes him compelling is that Gary is clearly not stupid. He's very quickwitted which makes his struggle to confront his own flaws, of which he is painfully aware of, all the more tragic.
Character's played by Simon Pegg
Shaun Riley - always wearing his work clothes
Nicholas Angel - always so uptight and never lightens up
Gary King - selfish, immature and never thinks
"To err is human, so... err..."
Every single line is brilliant.
After watching Shaun of the dead and Hot Fuzz, Simon Pegg is almost unrecognisable as Gary King. His performance is absolutely fantastic.
Simon Pegg's character in this film is absolutely hilarious
No joke thats the best impression of a robot ive ever seen
High Definition its at 6.16

If you want to see the master at work. Watch a comedian called Mr Zed.
"To kids, wherever they may be."
Jeff Zekas I’ll drink to that.
As much as I agree that Gary is hilarious, when the twist comes towards the end, you see that it's literally just a cover Gary uses to cover up his real feelings. All of Simon Pegg's characters in the Cornetto Trilogy have an element of tragedy to them but Gary is easily the most tragic of them all. A liar, self-destructive, addicted, depressed, dismissive, general arsehole and yet HE KNOWS ALL OF THIS THE ENTIRE TIME. He hides his guilt purely with memories and nostalgia and had been doing it since they left school, slowly drifting apart from his friends and ruining his relationship with them to the point he's on his own going to AA and spending his days institutionalised because of his rapidly deteriorating mental state
can relate.
That's exactly why this is my favourite Edgar Wright film, and Edgar is my favourite director of all time. Gary is funny and it is fun to watch him but he is so flawed that you sympathize with him and that final scene where he is desperate for that last pint really hits me "It's all I've got".
@@hambacon559 been there.
High Definition - It isn't just him breaking up with his partner; it's that he was such a workaholic that he never learnt to build real relationships with people, never had any friends and no-one liked him despite being the best at his job and in fact that was precisely why people disliked him. It's also why the entire town tried to kill him
@@simondaniel4028If you can relate to Gary, I hope that you are okay now. ❤
Gary King: *does something*
Everyone: What're you doing, Gary?
“Drinking fucking...RAIN!” I’m dead🤣😂
It's like seeing a lion eat hummus
@@kurokame9667 That doesn’t make any sense.
@@KenWu-pl3orI know it doesn’t make any sense
I like how an alien invasion ended up working out to Gary King’s advantage. It’s funny how society is so harsh for some people that the destruction of it would benefit people like Gary the most.
this movie is all about subtle hints...
You’re right. It even foreshadows this when Gary argues with his friends in the bar before the bathroom android fight starts. The Apocalypse saved Gary because he has nothing to lose and everything to gain. He’s already been separated from society, so a global collapse is less impactful on him than anyone else.
You got it. It’s he that wants the world to end because of how much he hates his life, that’s what the movie is about.
Simon pegg and Nick frost together = comedy
I wish that there were more movies
Comedian + comedian = comedy
Wow, such a profound statement
@@SirSaladAssthere is a diference between comedians and SUPER comedians
“It was like there was four of them”
"Im not proud of it.. i am a bit" 😁
At first I thought it was his drunkenness talking when Gary said “it’s all I’ve got!” Like he forgets he has friends. But then his arm bandages are revealed and my heart sinks, realizing he really wasn’t kidding.
The Worlds End is one of the most perfect films ever made. Far superior to the other two films in the Cornetto Trilogy in every way, the depth of layers this film has is the reason for its brilliance. The characters, the story archs they go through are wonderfully done.
Hot fuzz is much better but this is still good
loved the cornetto trilogy
Charles same 😂😂
Simon pegg is easily one of the best comedic actors

I nominate Simon Pegg for the New Captain Jack Sparrow
is he batshit crazy enough though?
Maus this movie proves he’s CRAZY enough
@JULIE COLBY he could be a second chance however.
@@MausOfTheHouse What are you talking about?
@@scottchaison1001 simon pegg. He is crazy, but not crazy enough for a jack sparrow role.
This movie is HIGHLY underrated
"Me and the reverend had a highly sophisticated code when discussing the purchase of herbal narcotics"
...
"Have you got any drugs?"
lmao
The humor is ON POINT!
"A lot of people are saying that about the Bible now"
"What - that it was written by Alexander Dumas?"
Honestly brilliant but only thing you should have or you could put up the scene in the kings head when Gary is suddenly up pouring a pint after being knocked out by Andy like it was nothing ahaha
Which if you really think about it was probably another of many brilliantly put together subtle foreshadowing bits seeing as Andy was saying before about how Gary goes from ODing and needing to go to hospital one minute to making a miraculous recovery after he crashes and gets arrested and then taken to surgery
7:09 I love the way Gary says "Why?". He sounds genuinely hurt.
4:14 “what are you doing Gary?” 😂😂😂
I love how the bell rings whilst he is saying this speech
ITS ALL IVE GOT was more than just acting that had meaning behind it
Are you on about Simon's own struggles? Yeah, so glad he managed to overcome them.
seen this movie 15 times and still don’t mind chucking it on and watching it again
Simon Pegg would be a good doctor who
Not going to happen wokeness has destroyed Dr Who.
@@Stuart267 I think having a female doctor is fine, what destroyed doctor who was the writing
@@Im_actually_in_love_with_Jesus because females need to piggy back of successful male franchises before ruining them with gender politics.
He actually was a doctor who villain back in 2005
I honestly can’t decide whether I like Simon Pegg more is the straight man or the crazy man. I mean in both of the other films of the Cornetto trilogy he seems to be the one with the most sense (arguable for Shaun of the dead obviously) but here he is the one that is the crazy in the chaotic in the oblivious to the other people‘s feelings. So I honestly can’t decide which I like more.
It is my favorite role of his. Part of it is the subversion, yes, but I genuinely think Simon Pegg poured a lot of himself in the character to make him unique and managed to hit on something painfully real. He had huge struggles with depression and alcoholism in the late 00s and early 10s and I think that tinge of real trauma really worked to set Gary King apart and ahead of all his other characters. Imo of course
@@solcrac9445 No kidding?
@@popshenroin5797 yeah, he's said in interviews that he used to be drunk 24/7 around the time he was filming Mission Impossible 3 and going to rehab in 2010 pretty much saved his life
2:05 This is how masters use a camera!
Ahhh, that was awesome. Now I want to go watch the Cornetto trilogy.
do it
I just realized I basically saw the entire movie after seeing this
9:40 Gary has been sober for some time, he's got the boys at his back, and he has a badass line to go out. A victory? A Bolivian army ending? Doesn't matter. He's already won.
6:28 that scene always makes me laugh
“Nothing wrong with doing your business in the toilet.” 😭
“ooo twice”
SceneScreen, you have made my day. Thank's for this.
Best line in that film and there are some really cherries is: " you want evidence there that proves I'm human, "proves your stupid", "exactly!" Laughed so hard I almost pissed myself.
This is always gonna be my favourite of the trilogy!
Tonight, we will be partaking of a liquid repast as we wind our way up the Golden Mile. Commencing with an inaugural tankard in The First Post, then on to The Old Familiar, The Famous Cock, The Cross Hands, The Good Companions, The Trusty Servant, The Two-Headed Dog, The Mermaid, The Beehive, The King's Head, and The Hole in the Wall for a measure of the same, all before the last bittersweet pint in that most fateful terminus, The World's End. Leave a light on good lady, for though we may return with a twinkle in our eyes, we will be in truth blind; drunk.
Cheers 🍻
@@darksharxz Cheers 🍻
I love this movie and I love Simon Pegg, this man is none stop hilarious.
1:19 omg... it's BILBO! I just now noticed!
TruthSurge Martin Freeman.
He’s seen through the Cornetto trilogy
I personally feel this is how it was done. If you see Gary King was quite similar to Billy Butcher from the Boys except for the comedic parts. Simon Pegg had a major role in helping write The Boys comics and Hughie was inspired by him in the comics. Maybe this was a reference to Billy from the Comics. As The Boys hadn't been created then yet
Let's be honest, we all know or have a Gary King in our lives 😂
I am the Gary King
Am I the only one who got a cornetto ad after clicking on this video?
I love how I’m watching Simon peng and then a cornetto ad comes on. Iconic
When he was going to describe his mum's funeral in 3 words, I thought he was going to say "didn't even go"
I got a cornetto add while watching this... weird
4:49 Of all the high end CG or amazing practical effects that I've seen in all the movies I've watched over the years, I am more stunned by how they got that mirror shot without showing the camera than ANYTHING. 2-way mirror? It looks too good.
Possibly used blue screen to edit out the camera thats why the toilet walls are so blue? I could be wrong tho.
If you look carefully it is not a reflection but a repeat projection. Watch the hand movements in the mirror.
Probably a paint out? That seems simplest to me. It's only a 1 color background so that seems like it wouldn't be that hard but I have no experience in VFX so I could just be spouting bullshit.
Wow I love Simon peggs acting ten fold now
