The point of the pads is to allow for harder hits. You can be in mid air and get folded in half that's why there's hundreds of hard hit compilations in the NFL. All you gotta do is just bring someone down in Rugby and you can do that anyhow you want but people mostly try to just bring then down by their legs. In the NFL you're damn near encouraged to just rock the shit out of people
