Also when has Pokémon mentioned that “Aztecs” worshipped mew? I thought Tablets with mew carved in them were found in Guyana so that would mean that indigenous Guyanese people would have worshipped mew. Most of them that you are playing now have been finished for a decade now, and just being discovered in mass now. To awnswr your question about whether or not Rotom will have any more forms; they already said in another interview that took place before Heart Gold and Soul Silver came out, I believe, they were going to not make any more forms of Rotom and wanted to go in a completely different direction. It might just be coincidence, but it's fitting that an F4 Phantom is one of the main inspirations for Mew, because it's referred to as the Phantom Pokemon in the Pokemon Pocket Monsters manga. This video was fantastic for clearing up the discrepancies in the Mew origin story, and it leaves me with an even greater appreciation for the design process behind my favorite monster of all time. I'm shocked by just how much content, especially interviews, is locked behind the language barrier, and I'm glad that the international fanbase is finally able to access that information. I think the real world history of these games is just as fascinating as the fictional stories the games tell.

I love this kind of stuff so much and there's still that little hint of me that wants game urban legends to be true especially from the mid-late 90s era. It's why I'm so into that Super Mario 64 stuff that popped up.

I remember as a kid playing pokemon blue and I came across Mew in the rock tunnel just before you get to lavender town. I had used all of my pokeballs before the encounter, I was so unbelievably upset. I ran away hoping if I didn't make it faint I could find it again.
Years later I stood in line for many hours for an event Mew for my leafgreen version, and it is one of my most treasured pokemon that I still have 😁

This was absolutely amazing. I love how Mew came to life thanks to contribution of so many people lol. From the idea of one, to the first form of one, to the perfectioning of another, to the personality of a whole other. And the result is undoubtedly amazing. The last metaphor made me emotional lol really warmed my heart.
And the comparison to the original dragon is also pretty interesting to make yeah, even though the equivalent Mon to Mewtwo in those games is Genesect, which we also never saw the original form of, or really anything about his creation (unless I'm missing something, I don't remember them even showing anything about him in the movies). The original dragon will also surely exist one day.

i love that mew was deliberately made as an inaccessible secret. not trying to sound all genwunner here, but the reason why pokemania took of in the 90s was because tajiri really was just trying to embody his childhood in this game, including secrets like mew. and it works because of it, coz kids could relate
mew was always the hot topic at my school too back in the gen 1 days

I knew about Mew's fateful effect on giving the franchise it's huge popularity through reading books on the series history, but I really appreciate this video's holistic attempt to track down all the designers and influences that made Mew in all of it's aspects. Learned some new things, and got a wholesome appreciation for a character's designer seeing his work further fleshed out and brought to life.

The mystery and legend of Mew is a really under appreciated reason why Pokemon became the phenomenon it is. I remember being 8-9 years old and hearing about this weird Pokemon that nobody had but was related to Mewtwo in some way and being absolutely fascinated. The fact that you couldn't get one without a GameShark (this is before the internet was readily accessible and the Mew glitch had been found) made it even more interesting. The internet was truly new and nobody really used it for gaming at this point (not like you kids who think the internet didn't exist before RUclips, it was actually pretty rare) so you really had to rely on word of mouth and the occasional friend with a gameshark. Great times.
It's one of the main reasons I became so fascinated by the world of Pokémon. Legends like Mew made everything seem so mysterious and only made us want to play more.
Too bad Pokemon hasn't been the same since about 2004. I loved those early days. Nothing they do will ever come close to matching that feeling we had in the late 90's.

Well, at least we know the true origins of Mew.
Fun fact: I actually did the Mew glitch once. And I found Mew! It wasn't easy, but it was a lot of fun! =)
Now, here's a question: Will we ever see Mew again in future Pokémon games? The answer is...who knows? 🤷🏻

So wonderful to learn the creators were influenced by videogame urban legends.. Mew definitely became that for Pokemon. As a young youth in the glow of Gen.1's success, it was quite special time to be on the playground and partake in the fun; I'll never forget getting duped in Red version. Long live Mew.
