- Mewtwo is the original secret final boss of pokemon. But, despite being around since Red and Blue, Mewtwo has a number of different origins. Ranging across the games, manga, anime, movies and tv shows, Mewtwo has been the first live birth of a pokemon, a clone of Mew, a human pokemon fusion, a genetically altered super weapon and even used to create Mewthree. This is the uncut story of Mewtwo's origin across all mediums the pokemon franchise has to offer.

I didn’t know people actually took the “Mew gave birth” line as literally meaning it gave birth. I’ve always read it as them successfully cloning mew from its dna, a metaphorical birth, not a literal one.
I always just assumed that Giovanni f*cked Mew and that that accounted for Mewtwo's identical Machiavellian characteristics. I mean, how else would the only known Mew breed, given that it's perfectly adaptable, being the origin species of all Pokémon?
One of the most iconic Pokémon in the whole franchise. I don't there ever will be anything like Mewtwo ever again. Great video!

Mewtwo mega evolving is logical... it can hold the mewtwoite and the keystone. Its its own trainer. Although, why there are mewtwoite, and not mewite is odd. I often wonder if mewtwo is actually an evolution of mew, or maybe mew does make mewtwos, like manaphy makes phiones. And the offspring doest evolve...

In Pokémon red, red meets a female sounding mewtwo and I always thought that's not My Mewtwo, that's a clone they tried to make of Mewtwo. And the real Mewtwo travels and helps people and Pokémon. Amber is the one who taught him to care and understand that he too has feelings. That's why he cried when she died, he loved his friend and couldn't stop her from dying. But crying wasn't going to stop her from dying. I love Mewtwo character so much. He's smart, strong and learned to be caring for others. His physical design is very nice and his voice acting great. Mewtwo and Pikachu will always be the face of the Pokémon universe.
It's impossible not to love Mewtwo. I really wish to see more appearances in the anime or movies / specials, and I really hope to, one day, see him finding happiness and maybe, someone who would understand him, that won't try to capture or control him, but instead, be a friend and work together, I mean, Mewtwo really deserve to be loved.

@chocoFallen probably. It feels odd to think the writers thought to make Mewtwo a male, then later a female. I don't mind a female character created after him, but the original Mewtwo feels like a male to me even if some people say Pokémon don't have genders. Maybe a fun idea is the female Red saw was Mewtwo's long lost twin sister. It's my opinion since I'm a big Mewtwo fan.
MewTwo the Pokemon constructed by Man the First mammade Pokemon besides Type:Null and Silvalley,I'm Surprised Areceus didn't yeet the Scientists out of existence for creating MewTwo.
I think they created Porygon before Mewtwo. In fact, I believe it was the same team of scientists from Cinnabar labs too

I feel like the game canon is the most official one, but they omitted Mew birthing Mewtwo in the anime because it would’ve probably been too dark a storyline to show for children on screen. Given that it likely involved Mew going through many cruel experiments and being implanted with a genetically altered embryo.
Having Mewtwo created from DNA from a Mew fossil and grown in a tank seems a lot more watered down for young viewers’ benefit.

Yeah, it’s an awesome Legendary Pokémon. But not the best. There’s Tons Of Legendaries better than it. Legendary Beasts From Gen 2, Weather Trio From Gen 3, Creation Trio From Gen 4, Tao Trio From Gen 5, Aura Trio From Gen 6, Tapus/Guardian Deities From Gen 7, Light Trio From Gen 7 & Darkest Day Trio/Combat Trio From Gen 8. Heck, Even The Eon Duo are better.
Mewtwo can be a clone and still have been birthed by Mew. Back when Gen 1 was made the most famous example of cloning was from Dolly the sheep, she was made from the DNA of one sheep, put into the ovum of a second sheep that had it's own DNA removed, they used electricity to stimulate cell division and then they implanted the growing embryo into a 3rd sheep. This was made because unlike sci-fi they didn't have artificial wombs to grow the embryo. Even artificially implanting embryos is a delicate matter and the process often fails. Some animals are notoriously hard to artificially inseminate, much less use them for cloning.
The scientists could have harvested DNA from Mew, modified the sample, used a blank ovum with it's own DNA removed, and then implanted the embryo into Mew because it was the only way to make it grow.
Mew gave birth to her own clone that they forcefully implanted in her.

I believe there are more Mewtwos in existence in the franchise. I remember having seen a movie in which Ash didn't know Mewtwo but the Mewtwo he met could mega evolve and had a female voice.
Obviously this can be because of the multiverse theory in Pokémon.
I briefly mention that mewtwo at the end of the video, it's the one from the genesect movie. Not a lot is said about its origin, it was created in a lab and escaped but it is 100% a different mewtwo than the one from the first movie

It's also meant to be the same Mewtwo you can find in the *Hidden Forest Village* in the _X_ and _Y_ games. I'm unsure of _who_ stole the Research Data to create it, but whoever it was *didn't learn* from the previous Mewtwo's creation, and had their facility destroyed during Mewtwo's escape...
Just like the one before it, this *second Mewtwo* took refuge in a cave somewhere most Trainers could never reach. Whether it _travelled overseas from another Region to get there_ however, is still a mystery...
The entries were only changed in the English version. They were unchanged in the Japanese version of lets go games.
Cool Fact: In the first movie, Mewtwo is a female voice, and Mew is very mean to Mewtwo, it tells him stuff like a copy is jus a copy, you never be like me and stuff like that😅
Of course for the english version they took away all of that and limited Mew to just saying Mew😅
my brain derailed when i'd noticed it by why is Dr Fuji so obsessed with cloning his daughter alone when his wife also died? Was his wife a scientist? Was his wife against the ethics? Was there actually a divorce incoming and that's why he hyperfocused on Amber, the last person he knew for sure loved him? also was her name really Amber just for the writer's to say "Yeah, she's fossilized Amber! Get it?"
This observation is a rather thought provoking one... I'd like to share my thoughts on the subject (lol I feel like I'm trying to sound smart saying it like that).
First off... he's probably trying to make a clone of his daughter because its likely much much easier to clone a child instead of an adult, since they would need time to grow and mature. His wife likely died before there was any cloning going on, and if she _was_ alive she would likely value the life of her daughter over her own life, and Dr. Fuji likely knew this. Its in his best interest and his wife's best interest to bring back their daughter, who died young and would have otherwise had her whole life to live (meanwhile Dr. Fuji is likely already growing old at that point). To him it was his final gift to his deceased wife, to make sure their daughter could live.
Secondly... imagine how weird it would be to make a clone of your wife and marry said clone. Cloning is ethically questionable, but cloning somebody so you can marry them is a whole new level of questionable. If a scientist creates a clone, its effectively their child. They created it, raise it, and care for it (or just keep it alive, it depends how nice of a scientist they are) so it would probably be really awkward to create a clone of your wife rather than your daughter. Plus, as mentioned previously, it would also require the clone aging to adulthood (whether through natural means or not), making it even more complicated.
His wife didn't die at least in the anime, simply left him because she was afraid of Fuji descending into madness with his consistent attempts of cloning their daughter and resulting in heartbreak every time.

I don't think Detective Pikachu covers Mewtwo's origin. The lab they escape from is from Mewtwo being recaptured

I don't see why the researchers would start keeping records in the form of metaphors.
Im not sure i buy the whole "Mew was a last minute addition" story. It falls apart when you remember how much evidence of mew was in the franchise from the very start.
It seems more likely that they planned for kids to catch mewtwo, then wonder who Mew was, keeping them interested for a little while longer, which is basically what happened. To support my theory, they did the same thing three more times with Celebi, Jirachi, and Arceus, although they never truly caught lightning in a bottle again like they did with Mew.
Also Sugikori claimed that Mewtwo isn't based on Giygas, but baijce I just accused GameFreak of lying, I'm not taking that as gospel.
The team that came up wit the original 150 pokemon r goats in my opinion, to this day gen 1 aka kanto/johto has my fav pokemon designs my 10 fav pokemon all come from gen 1 except 2 and dey r rayquaza, arcanine, charizard, dragonite, blastoise, sceptile, moltrese, raikou, lugia and mewtwo my team of 6 wud b arcanine, mewtwo, dragonite, blastoise and raikou

Team plasma created the mega Mewtwo in the anime. You can tell because the door that it hits in the flashback has team plasma's symbol on it.

Mewtwo is not a they as in multiple people in one body. You could have just said "it" to be less confusing
"they" can be correctly used as a gender-neutral singular pronoun, which fits Mewtwo since they're genderless. In my opinion, it feels weird to call a talking, intelligent creature "it"

For example: "for a student to be considered smart, they have to get straight A's". In this case, "student" is neither male nor female (or at least we don't know what they are). This use is also correct when you do know the gender of a person, but that gender is neither male nor female (just like Mewtwo, who is genderless). Also, forgive me if this comes off as rude, I'm just telling you this because this is a use for the word "they" that exists, is perfectly correct, and is also nothing new. I'm not trying to insult you or anything, so forgive me if that's what my comments came across as.
1 big problem with these videos….this is NOT origin it’s all theory. No released Pokémon media has ever stated Dr. Fuji and Mr. Fuji are the same person. To state that as matter of fact is as speculative as mew dying. Also if he is the same person then he didn’t have that big a change of heart as much as he was going into hiding. He underwent massive reconstructive surgery?….but only changed his name from Dr. to Mr. and then stayed in the Kanto region? Kool theory but NOT a true origin for Mewtwo.
