Thinking about people who have helped us along, I couldn’t help think about my grandma. She taught me how to crochet when I was 13 and more than 50 years later I am still crocheting and knitting. It brought such a sense of joy and accomplishment in what I created then and it still does.

I've been following you for about three years now and your Friday videos are the highlight of my week! Over the Christmas holiday I finally sat down "with you" and learned how to knit! I'm so excited to be able to do both knitting and crochet with you now! My eldest daughter has also joined in, and it would be lovely to receive this set of yarn for us to share. I love sitting with her and working on a project while we drink something hot and shoot the breeze!

Oh my goodness, what a lovely shawl. I've been crocheting for 60 years and just learned to knit a couple of years ago, my knitting projects have gradually increased in difficulty but never something as ambitious as this. I think it's time to push myself out of my comfort zone for this beautiful piece. Thank you for your frequent words of comfort and joy.

I started dyeing bare yarn a few years ago (and have SO much to learn); thus, I’m always inspired by the new yarns you regularly introduce. I’m also in awe by the process you follow as you create each new yarn. Meanwhile, I’m still in the “can I get a yarn that is adequately dyed?” mode. Yet, I’m hopeful that someday (sooner than later) I can follow the feel of my heart and the message of the yarn instead of feeling so tied to tried and true (yet uninspired) “formulas” when I embark on a new dyeing adventure. This new yarn is simply gorgeous. I’m thankful that you go on walks with Tim and talk and dream; we’re the lucky recipients of these strolls. Thank you. ❤

I love being a knitting "artist" as you say. 🙂 I'd love to try this yarn simply because I think of people and handmade gifts I'd like to make for them. One friend (a mom of 8) sent me a crocheted blanket for my 7th baby. I opened the box, saw it, and knew it was a blanket she made and prayed over for me - and immediately cried. Those kinds of gifts are just.so.special! ❤️

I have always loved the idea of a circular shawl but have been too afraid to try it. I love how you offer the tip of a lifeline which I just heard about only a couple of months ago. I also love the idea of using gradient colors so they blend well and the artistic comment of creating something that didn’t exist before! That’s what I love about knitting. Thanks for always offering your free patterns! 🥰

  • @aolster3198

Thanks for the Fred Rogers reminder. He was an amazing presence for my children and for me because of them - I did not believe in plunking my kids in front of the living room TV as a childminder, so I'd listen from the kitchen and visit with them every few minutes as I prepped dinner.
Such a pretty shawl and such lovely yarn!
I like the "barber pole" concept. As a kid, I played with trying to learn crochet and twining navy and black was one of my first experiments.
The idea of blending the yarns as you suggest intrigues me.
I do use stitch markers and lifelines; they make a big difference in my confidence!
There are even needles that make adding lifelines effortless!

Gorgeous! If I won the yarn to make a stunningly beautiful Lumin I would, for the first time in my 63 years of knitting attempt a project on that scale, including using a lifeline, and thanks for the reminder tip about that. When I was knitting, way back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth, no one had yet thought of using lifelines, and oh, the horror of having to rip back to the beginning of a lace project and having to start over because it was impossible to do anything else!
I was once in a couple of programs by an organization whose motto was "Expect the unexpected." They had programs all over the world and that motto was perfect, and has been one of my own for a long time.

I had a really bad experience learning to knit as a young and extremely shy Girl Scout, many, many years ago. As a result, I gave it up. Many years later I taught myself to crochet, and have become pretty darn good at it. My skill level has greatly improved, because of your tutorials and those of another RUclipsr. I wouldn’t even attempt to try this pattern - now. But, I recently saw that you posted a tutorial for beginning knitters. So, at the age of 76, I’m going to break out the needles and give it a go! Your new yarn looks absolutely luscious, and if I win it, I’ll practice until I can create something gorgeous, using your patterns. You are amazing, and I adore your posts and your sweet little self - and Tim, too! 🥰

This pattern caught my eye and I am so excited to make it! Thank you for the free pattern. I love how these new yarns play together as good neighbors (Fred Rogers is one of my favorite humans ever!) The colors are stunning and barber pole effect is an artistic touch. Well named!

wow! Just beautiful! If I had that yarn, I would surprise a friend, who is raising her grandchildren on her own and just celebrated a year as a double masectomy breast cancer survivor. She is so deserving and I've wanted to create something beautifully different for her. I've never used a nice yarn like that, and would be as excited as a child on Christmas if I was ever able to purchase such beautiful yarn. Thanks for sharing another georgous pattern!
