Yes, the classic "asking a band to censor a song about censorship/oppression", that has never backfired.....
akin to when SOAD were asked to perform on SNL "and not swear." the band censored the entire song just for Daron to scream "FUCK YEAAAHHHH" at the end of it and completely dodge the censorship crew.
I'll never get networks that invite anti establishment bands and expect them to behave on their accord.

Another situation like that happened to Muse. They were asked to perform on Radio 3 and were told to not swear, which at the time, their music had no swearing whatsoever. A whole lotta "fucks" ensued.

The whole campaign to make RATM number one in order to keep X-Factor off the top spot, was one of those tiny acts of rebellion that came directly from music fans and actually worked. Warms your heart.
Fun fact: Simon Cowell's record label Syco is a subsidiary of Sony Music, same corporation that holds the rights to Killing in the Name…so in the end, the rebellion just pushed the sales of 2 tracks for Sony.

For fans of rage against the machine, I was a singer and a upstate New York hard-core band when I was younger if you’re interested one of his first bands was called inside out. I was fortunate enough to be able to see Rage @ the Oakland Coliseum back in the Early 2000's. It is 1 of the handful of concerts I've been able to go enjoy, along with Primus on a New Year's Eve on a wharf somewhere in San Francisco back in 1996 I think, my memory of that period of time is Hazy!?¿!

I remember it fondly I bought the single that year too, and was so pleased that someone else other than the competition winners became an Xmas number 1.
