Sure, years ago when most people listened to the radio. But with so many people just using ipods and things, with the music they want, you don't really hear other things. I never listen to the radio anymore. I have 1000+ songs on my Ipods so just listen to that until I add something new.

I love the series but I’m kinda over how blown away they are that professional drummers can lay a beat over some pretty mainstream songs. It’s awesome to hear someone’s take on a song they’ve not heard and are in no way influenced by but for a pro drummer it should be real easy to lay a beat over some of the songs they select.

To be honest? The riff leaning on the octave outlines what drum beat should be played. If you hadn't heard it (find that part hard to believe) then it wouldn't be hard to guess. Kick and snare mimicking (or being mimicked by) octaves and guitat and/or bass is basic music fundamentals.
Why do you think your dad knowing about it means that everyone does? Funny story for you, many musicians listen to a lot less music freely than other people do. It's kind of disruptive when you're creatively writing and/or touring or otherwise performing it's almost like sometimes, people have an experience that doesn't match up with yours, even if you think you can come up with an explanation for why they should have. "Anecdote" is a word you should really become familiar with and learn the definition of.

actually it's entirely likely she hasn't heard it. she was 7 years old when the album came out, and this isn't one of RATM's songs that is frequently used for soundtracks. So unless she was actively listening to rock/metal radio stations, she wasn't going to hear this. And by the time she was old enough to pick her own music, this song was off the "current rock" rotation, and had begun to shift to classic rock stations, being a decade old

I will tell you, if I never got into Guitar Hero years ago I would not have heard this song. So I can't get to multiple bands. Also I don't just listen to rock and metal. I couple it with Classical, Pop, K-pop, Indian classical, Chinese pop, J-pop and J-Rock among other genres. I have heard about RATM and probably heard one song on the fly.
It should be listened to. Because if you walk on the mall, on the streets, movie soundtracks, commercials etc. you will hear these songs, you may not be focused on listening to them, but can't avoid them too in daily life.
I saw Rage play with Beastie Boys, Blackstar, and i cant remember the other act, but it was a punk band i believe it was at summerstage in central park in like 97 or 98.. unreal performance live.
