the cameras are basically radio modems operating on 27 megahertz. when you place the radios in such close proximity it will cause problems with one camera transmitting and another receiving simultaneously. One's transmitter will overload the other receiving capabilities. You have to spread them out from each other at least a few feet or more.

Didn't realize that cellular trailcams worked on 27 megahertz. I thought that they worked around 600MHz or 800MHz or or other higher frequencies. Maybe you are not much of a radio ace at all and perhaps should stay quiet.

Best cell cam review video I've seen. Thank you!
I have used 2 Spypoint link micro V cell cams since 9-12-22. 1 camera has worked flawlessly. The other has worked periodically. After about 5 weeks of emails back & forth with customer service, they sent me a free replacement. I set it up in the same open spot & within 20 minutes, the camera sent me 100 photos (maxing out the plan for the month). No branches were tripping it & it wasn't windy. I can almost guarantee they do it on purpose in an attempt to get you to purchase a plan. Even with the troubles I've had, I will continue to use them this year. Battery life has been awesome.

I have 5 Spypoints that were installed around August 2022 - they have ALL operated flawlessly and I agree with all the points you made with regards to triggering on stuff really far away and also with having the multiple images taken too quickly together, sometimes before the animal has even moved. Battery life when transmitting just once or twice a day is crazy good, I am still on the first set of batteries (cameras all reading consistently about 60% life left after 6 months).

Hi Dave, for us elk hunters, it's video where it's important. Might I suggest a second round of of the 30,60.90 ft tests, but strictly for video this time? Most manufacturers say their video triggers are slower, and this would be a good way to find out.
Also, I have first gen reveal, and received a Moultrie second gen Delta for Chrismas. While the reveal has an adjustable video length, it was a major disappointment to find out the Delta will only record 15 second videos. If an elk is in a Wallow, you want max length on the videos. If you could detail the video length capabilities of each camera, that would be most useful. Thank you.

Great video, I've been running six moultrie edge camera this year. Replaced my old moultrie camera and modem system, got to say I've had very little problem with them. I had one them early on would turn on connect take a couple pictures and need a battery change. I was not using using the recommended energizers batteries. I decided to use energizers in this camera and it is still running strong at 70% since the battery change in mid October its now January 10 and has taken hundreds of pictures. Thanks great review.

Spypoint are by far the worst in my opinion, slow to respond, there is a glitch with their unlimited photos that “expires” and support was by far the worst. They offered to replace the camera with one half its value which still did not resolve the unlimited photo glitch. Being out of excuses we are constantly disconnected forcing us to wait over an hour each time to get through. Will NEVER buy from them again. Bushnell has been fantastic, and looking forward to trying one of the Tacticam.

Easy set up easy app to use can’t complain with them. I’ve used moultrie in the past and they were good when the 6000 series was made camera worked great but all down hill after. Great video! One thing I have found with the Tactacam cameras when compared to others is that if you run several cams, the plans are more economical because of how they count number of images. The number is cumulative for all your cameras. Others seem to count by each camera and you can end up with a lot of unused photos in your plan each month.

Disappointing that the Moultrie edge was a lemon. I have four of them and they all work great. I enjoy the SD cardless feature. For someone like me hunts public land They are a great option. The only knock I have on them is trigger speed. I wish it was a hair faster. Two of them have been out for almost 2 months and are still above 90% in battery life. I have switched back and forth between video and photo on them many times. They take photos nightly. I have very few daytime photos simply because our deer are so nocturnal, but the ones I have are pretty dang good. Even the night photos are very clear depending on the humidity level. I am happy especially for 80 bucks apiece.

Very cool test setup Dave! I like that you compared "like" cameras! I was surprised at the trigger speed of the Tactacam...almost too fast. But maybe a good speed for video mode. Very clever with the cones to measure day and night camera activation. I really like your look at battery life. There are so many variables when it comes to battery life...but you took most of them out. Cool! Great video Dave!!

I have 4 edges, had one do what you mentioned, called Moultrie they sent me one no questions asked and even gave me a discount code for my trouble. yes, these types of defects are unfortunate and can be troublesome, but the quality of pictures have hands down been the best in a cell cam that I have ever owned, and I've used quite a few different types and not to mention the functionality of their app is one of the best out there no doubt for putting statistics together. just knowing how to use it to your advantage is a learning curve.

I can tell you exactly why some cameras may have failed during your test so you can take it into consideration for future comparisons. When multiple cameras are activated and mounted this close to each other they will interfere with each others ability to communicate. It would not be any cameras fault it is simply the electrical interference produced by the cameras around it. There are other tests you can do as well like activate a camera and test to prove it works just fine. Then place that camera directly next to a computer monitor or some other device that puts out a strong electrical signal and you will see it will often no longer be able to transmit so you will not get a notification. I have seen cases where placing a camera next to my monitor that my screen on the monitor starts to go a little crazy. Keep up the good work though.

Thank you for this! For years all I used was Moultrie, and my camera died. I purchased another moultrie that lasted 5 days and drained 24 batteries, a moultrie solar panel, and only took 6 solid black photos, swapped it under warranty with another that made it just under a yr and died. Swapped it out again under warranty with the next level up version at the time and it lasted almost to the end of the 2yr warranty and died so I just returned it and got my money back. I purchased a Tactacam last yr and so far I still like it. I do miss the widescreen from the moultrie though because I get a lot of empty pics when deer are at the edge of the screen like the sensor range is wider than the camera lens.

this is one of the first comments I've ever made on youtube. this is a fantastic video! thank you for taking the time to do this. I will be basing my cameras purchases for this next season on this video. I bought 4 Moultrie Edge cameras this last preseason and I can't say enough about how poorly they performed. eating up batteries while not taking pics or connecting at all. they wasted much of my time and energy this past season and it's time that I won't get back. I've been a long time moultrie patron and will likely get rid of all my moultrie mobile cams due to the horrible performance of the cameras and customer service. between 2 of my friends and myself, we had 8 edge cameras that all had the same issues. we didn't realize how bad it was until we placed moultrie 7000 cameras side by side with several edge cameras and realized we simply weren't getting pics and they weren't working. I'm currently waiting to have one last conversation with moultrie about this and I will update this comment regarding the results.

Very informative video. The video and picture send/battery consumption data will vary based on which cellular carrier each camera was connected to, the transmit power levels they were operating at when sending pictures, and the quality of the data connection. These factors also affect the amount of time it takes to successfully send a picture, and time for the user to receive it. So all of your viewers may experience very different results depending on their location and the coverage there.

@@endusererror you are correct, Spypoint does not have a combined pic and video mode. They do however offer a moving thumbnail preview (consumes 3 pictures towards your monthly total) when on video mode. I do like this. When the Tactacam is on video only mode you only get a still thumbnail.

I purchased a two pack sale on the Moultrie edge cams and I have to say they are both THE worst cameras I've ever purchased. Returning them both tomorrow and getting another t-cam reveal x pro, that camera is in my opinion amazing. I left my X pro out all off season and went to grab it and put new batteries in it to find 8t upside down hanging open and FULL of water from a tree that fell on it. I took it to the garage, air hosed it dry and could. Not. Believe.. when it turned on and is still this year out in the woods working like a champ. Figured that was worth sharing! Thanks for the vid!

I bought the bushnell a few months ago for this season as my first ever cellular camera because a friend referred it to me. I did not watch any video like this before buying. It’s not a bad camera but I do have some of the same complaints as you said, with slow trigger speed as my biggest complaint. I wasn’t a fan of the battery lock either, and I don’t use it for video but maybe one day I would like to and obviously this is the worst camera in your review for video. Although that tactacam is the most expensive I do believe most times you get what you pay for. So maybe in my future hunting seasons I will switch to that brand. I also wanted to say that you did a great job on this review, best cellcam review video I’ve seen, and I think you compared them all fairly. Thanks!

I travel a lot for work and live out in the woods in a national forest that has a lot of cabin theft from meth heads so I’ve been looking for a while to figure out which trail cam to go with. It’s very hard to watch reviews of individual cameras by different people that often times don’t review all the same things which is frustrating.
I’m an engineer by trade so I have a very scientific way of thinking and this video literally encompassed every feature at the same time (board tests) with you as the only person giving the info which allowed me to avoid trying to differentiate between different review styles. I absolutely loved the amperage review because of the chart you had with the brands, power draw, and different tests all in one graphic.
This is the best review I’ve seen yet, thank you for helping me make my decision!
This is my only 1 of two cons but it’s not much but using the same cams in different spots for the videos was slightly disappointing because it lost a little bit of that scientific method you had going with the cones where everything was 100% controlled because in some of the day videos there was different light settings and in the night videos some cams had deer in both foreground and background and other camera videos only had one deer, it would of been nice to have all the cams in the same spot to compare how foreground and background deer focused - I get it, your review was to see deer and my application (home security) is to catch thieves so if a video could clearly show two thieves faces more clear that would of been more helpful to me.
One other thing would be cool to see a graphic like you did with the power where all the tests (including price) on one one graphic with the category winner highlighted green so it’s easier to see patterns.
Again, this is not a dig on you at all this video was awesome! I hope more cam companies see this and start sending you gear to review because this was second to none.
Liked and subbed and I’ll be sharing with friends! Also - nice frickin ranch man!

wow great job, the most professional comparison test, just share that in a few states in U.S. and most provinces in Canada. It's illegal to spot an animal instantly with an electronic device while hunting so Spypoint added a delay (60 sec in U.S and 4 minutes in Canada). So the term instantly is then not really applies when hunters are on their field while hunting.

I've bought 6 of the Spypoint micros with the solar panel attached. With those you don't have to swap batteries. I've had them in the field well over a year and no issues with battery life. With that said, the cameras are junk. I had to replace one after a year and 4 others after 2. I bought the Flex and it worked for a year, they replaced it and it's working, but only had it a couple months. I bought the new Flex with the solar panel for this year. We'll see how that goes. When they work, they're decent cameras, but with this kind of failure rate, I'm gonna try the Tacticam. 3 of 8 cameras working with 2 being new is not good.

my unscientific test is about 3 to 4 weeks on a set of 8-AA batteries with not that many photos (no videos) with the spy-cam. I show 2 bars connectivity at that location so perhaps it eats the batteries in standby while trying to stay connected with a tower. I'm not sure if the programming is set that way. All I know is... If you buy the Spy-cam... get the solar panel... or buy a truck load of AAs.

Yes sending pics to the server takes some time and I'm barley getting a signal 25/50% as I'm not close to any towers. I have been using Spypoint cameras for over 5 years now and I'm a Spypoint insider member. I swap out most of my cameras so I never have to pay anything just the 90.00 for the membership. They have all worked flawlessly and I have a few on external solar power/Winghome and new Spypoint 15000mha, which are working great. I love the HD photos as I can now make out license plates and people faces so much better now as my gate cameras are up high and a good distance from the gate. ...... Nova Scotia Canada. Good review great job. The one thing I’d consider along side your very thorough parameters is customer service. Spypoint’s customer service is terrible and I mean absolutely horrible. A quick check on line will show that I’m not the only person that feels this way. I’ve spent hours trying to trouble shoot a Spypoint micro link. I was hung up on several times and had to start From the beginning with each new service rep. After many hours I was given 10% off on a new camera but only if I ordered then and there on the phone. I bought a s flex but when this goes bad I won’t ever buy another Spypoint

I wait hours for them sometimes, and signal states it has 90% . It is the first cellular cam i have owned. I am sure i will work out the bugs. I like it, but a little disappointed in it at the same time. Some of the other guys at the hunting club use cell cams. What brands I do not know, but they get the photos reasonably quick. Like i said maybe i need to work out the bugs. Great job you did on covering these different cell cams. It really helped me a lot being that I am just starting to use them, thanks.

Dave, I really appreciate the thoroughness and detail you put into your testing. I also like how you've made it as apples-to-apples by placing the cameras in the same environment and ran the tests at the same time. One thing I would like to see is waterproof testing. I live in the Pacific NW where we get 80"+ of rain per year. I've had water problems with many of my cameras including multiple models of the Spypoint cameras. When I spoke to Spypoint I was told their cameras are "water resistant", which is a lame way of saying they are not waterproof. Nearly every camera that I've had that failed is full of water when I open it up. I would love to know if any of these, or the other cellular cameras you've tested, can stand up to a simulated rain test. Thanks again for all the hard work.
