Thanks for the helpful video! After using non cell cameras for 20 years, Im finally going to try a couple cell cams... Much has improved since the first cameras with 35mm film i had... Taking a roll of film to walmart to get developed to see 27 pictures of squirrels and grass swaying... lol... Thanks again!
Spypoint also has their $99/yr Insider Club membership ($8.25/mo) and with that, you get $0 = 250 pics $5 = 1,000 pics, $8 = Unlimited. So for me, that's a huge deal. I have some Flex-S now.. 36 MP and GPS, and on demand pics, and solar - and I can run all of them them for free with 250 pics each, all off-season year... Which really adds up with a dozen cameras in the field.
@@NextStepOutdoors I have a dozen. I also have a Tactacam and a couple Moultries, and they all have their ups and downs. But for me - the $99 yr SpyPoint membership means I can run ALL those cameras ALL year for free (I'm a cheapskate!) and get 250 pics / month for free.

Hello. There's someone dumping garbage on a dirt private road we own. I'm looking for recommendations on which camera to buy. The location of the camera is liking going to be away from electricity and internet connection. It would be great to capture the plates of the car as they have to drive slow and in front of the camera. I was considering getting a game/trail camera with a subscription so I can have the pictures sent to me, but I doubt the clarity of the camera will capture the plates? Whatever camera works well with capturing plates, I'm going to buy another to use at my tree stand. Any recommendations are much appreciated.
Looking to upgrade from my covert which are just awful. On the tactacam if you purchase 4 cameras can you share one data plan with all 4? Do you need a separate plan for each camera?
We want to use a cell trail cam for our rural home property boundary security against a neighbor who is trespassing. To be clear, the Moultrie Edge will send video clips or still shots thumbnails to your phone for immediate notification and you can delete if a false positive (wind blowing vegetation for example) to save storage on our account but if you want to save a video clip, you can download it to your home computer at no cost to you for use as evidence? Thank you for clarifying.
Personally, I like the Moultrie not having an SD card. You don't have to worry about other people potentially stealing and gaining intel from your camera. It can essentially be made a brick as soon as someone takes it.
That is an interesting take on it for sure. I cable lock mine when they are on any type of shared access/public so very rarely deal with stolen cameras. Still bums me out that a lot of the HD images/videos essentially disappear unless you request them in the app. One of my favorite things to do is pull the sd cards from my cell cams at the end of the season and look through an entire year's worth of intel.
All of these cameras use cloud services, i.e., files are stored remotely. Therefore, there's a risk those services are hacked and/or the manufacturer goes rogue and sells data to the third parties, etc. But otherwise, yeah, from the technological perspective, all cameras could have password protection on the data recorded onto the memory cards as a standard feature (this way preventing data theft directly from the stolen card), but it's not in demand, apparently.
@@NextStepOutdoors same. I mean why!!! Leave the videos in they're or build one that holds an sd card so we can go back and look at our scouting pics and videos. I mean geezzz they build a great cam. Then crush it with the not saving your videos
I think I'm going to have to try Tactacam X pro. I have 4 different properties I hint besides mine. I've used spypoints for years. Their entry level cameras have worked great. I bought 4 flexs last year and every one of them dies from 1 day to a week. I really wanted to like it and stay on the same platform, but cameras don't do any good when they die so quick.
Do any of these have the ability to provide live feed, pic or video, at any time requested if I am not close by the camera? And do I get notified right away as soon as it pics up motion? I’m looking for something to add to the entrance of my place and would like the ability to check throughout the day.
The tactacam one lets your request pictures remotely but no cell cam on the market allows you to livestream video just yet. Supposedly, it may be launched by the fall for several brands. In either case, any of these will notify and send you pics immediately upon catching any motion.
Thanks for the reviews. I own 4 spy points. The reason I went with them is each has external power ports. I have all attached to a self-contained panel/battery pack. Now power is never an issue. Another reason is the detachable antennas. In my area of the woods here in N/W Louisiana cell service is poor at best. The stock camera antennas simply won't cut it. I use high-gain directional yagi antennas on each camera. That was a total game-changer. Now the signal is never below 90%. Yeah, it takes a little tweaking to fine-tune the direction you need. Once dialed in, You are good to geaux. Cheers from Louisiana.
Would you mind sharing links for the battery pack and antennas you use? Love that you did some tinkering of your own. I think a lot of people just accept that they don't get service at their property, etc. I plan to try one of the solar flexs this year when they come out.
If they are draining batteries, there's a lot of factors. 1) if it's taking a ton of pictures reduce the photo burst # and increase the delay between pictures. 2) only transmit pics if it's a cell cam one or two times per day. Other than that. Running good lithium batteries makes a huge difference.

Appreciate the video, just bought two LM2’s, I hunt in northern Michigan and service is spotty at best. Is there a camera which you would recommend for low service areas? I don’t need super clear photos but itd be nice to be able to get updates whilst being a couple of hours away. Also are the extensions worth the money or are they a money grab? Thank you!
I haven't tried the LM2 yet but I'd bet that if you have any cell service at all they will work. Otherwise, id probably look into one of the ones in this video or another "multi carrier" cam that flip flops back and forth to the strongest network in the area. A new one I'm looking into is Blackgate for that reason. Supposedly it connects to alllll of the network and automatically switches to whatever one is strongest at that moment.
If you were going to buy say ten or so which would you go with? Just bought four acres raw land and I want to deter trespassers since I’m only out once a week at most for now, thank you!
Best review ive seen so far. Well done. I have tactacam spypoints and just ordered 2 moultrie. I dont do videos i really should though. But the price point for the moultries i just want to see whats in the area as they have the dual connectivity. It was either spypoint flex or moultrie and i hate spypoints.
Couple of questions for you. First of all, what are all of the things you would recommend for a mock scrape because mine never seem to really take off. Second, where are you hunting in Michigan because I rarely see bucks like those. I assume with being an ohio hunter that you are southern Michigan focused? Great video and thanks for the advice on the scrape!
Ideally, you want to start the mock scrapes in high traffic areas but I like using a grape vine. I’ve had good luck starting them with vanilla extract or synthetic forehead gland. Honestly, you probably don’t even need a scent if it’s in a good spot.
Where I hunt there is NO cell service NOR WiFi so whats the point? Bluetooth would be handy, I could hike back to my cams, whip out my phone & offload all of the images on each cam, then, clear the card and go to the next cam. That would be helpful. !
How long is the battery life on the Reveal X Pro? Thre property is far from my house and I have heard mixed reviews on solar options so I am strongly considering the RXP.
Depends on several factors like how many pics/vids it will be taking. I've been running the external solar packs for all my Tactacams and love them. Have never had one die.
@@NextStepOutdoors so i noticed that the tactacam came with a tactacam sim card, will that work with Verizon or do i need to get a specific Verizon card?
@@NextStepOutdoorsI can request HD, but it says it will use 5 of my available image requests. Am I limited in those requests? So for seeming ignorant on this. This is my first cell cam I bought yesterday…
Nice review! I "upgraded" 2 SpyPoint Link Micros & found a few things to note. The field of view is quite a bit wider in the Flex where the Link Micro is more "zoomed-in". The Flex consumes batteries way quicker, even with the LIT-22 rechargeable. The video quality is not that great, but the pics, especially the preview pics are of a higher resolution. As mentioned most folks will need an external directional antenna as that helps save battery life, besides giving a higher quality reliable signal. SpyPoint has no way to limit the amount of daily pictures taken, either by an option to shut the motion sensor off or software limiting the daily amount. You can turn the cellular modem off, but that's with a risk of it not coming back online until a power cycle. Their cameras are very stingy on software features. Most of these trail cameras will be mounted on a tree with trees & branches around them & wind blowing more often than not. 🙂
Thanks for sharing! Some good insight for someone who's thumbnail is a lobster! 🤣 I'll have to try some of the aftermarket antennas. You're not the first person to suggest that, not just for the SPYPOINTs.
Moultrie chose internal storage knowing you wouldn't be able to disable your data plan and use it as an offline camera. It's more of a headache than a feature, hopefully it doesn't catch on and become the norm.
It would be nice of you to start by pointing out this concerns the US and possibly Canadian market specifically (still less than 5% of the global population). Not everybody can get this from your accent alone. Otherwise, a very useful overview, even if I'm interested in them for property control. And, btw, I would also mention that all three of those brands are North American and hence are likely to host their services (read: +-all of the stuff your camera sends) in there, instead of China, as some other well known Chinese brands do.
Deer naturally use licking branches and rub their scent all over to communicate with each other. You can create one in an area you want to direct traffic too to increase the number of pictures you get, or to help you get a shot in season.
All of them were undetectable from a noise perspective. To my knowledge, no cams on the market are truly made in the USA currently to answer your other question.
What about a no service area that I hunt? I am 4 hours from where I am going to be hunting and there is absolutely no service at all where I go. How do these work with this problem?
You'd probably be better off just buying some non-cellular cameras. If there's no service they would be little benefit to you. I have another video testing some cheap ones on Amazon that all did pretty well for a fraction of the price of the cell cams.
I appreciate the review. I am new to the cell camera scene but have had my Tacticam Reveal X Pro for about a year now. I am very happy with it and just ordered a 2nd one. I have a question for you though... I have not done the research but I found that by adding the Tacticam rechargeable internal battery pack and the external solar charger/battery pack, I should not have to ever replace any AA batteries again. The cost was about equal to buying the more expensive non-rechargeable lithium batteries, I will break even quickly. Do the other brands offer these accessories? I appreciate your review, it seems to me you have shown that each one of us will need to evaluate the pro's and con's and then decide their value to make our decision! You gave us lots to consider!
For all of my tactacams, I've been running the external solar pack now and have yet to have a camera die. Definitely recommend because, like you said, the price of batteries is getting ridiculous.
@@NextStepOutdoors I have the lithium cartridge on both my X pro cameras along with their solar panel. There is a bug in both my cameras in that even though I have them set-up in the app as having the lithium cartridge they revert back to showing I am using alkaline batteries every day. Talked to Reveal and their idea of having to format the memory cards did not have any effect on the problem. I think it is a bug in the firmware. I hope they get it fixed soon as it is a pain to have to change and correct this problem every day.
About those picture and video transmittals packages, guess what. If it's windy you'll get pics and videos of swaying bushes and trees. Just what you wanted to waste your money on right? Also Tacticam says their cams need their cards or their recommended cards and they have to be full size cards and not the mini SDHC. Ask me how I know and with 4 cams you need two cards per cam. I pulled my Tacticams because I have 4 cams, 4 solar panels and 2 battery packs that go inside the cameras and they started shutting down because I was using ONN mini SDHC cards. Cheapest I can do the recommended cards is over $100 and the rep suggests I add an extra $20 for windy pictures using the HD transmittal nonsense? I plan on selling them or just throwing them away if I don't get my price. As I told the rep regardless of them sending a picture I still have to go out and change the card to see what the videos show ( I had the cams set to video because it's more info). He suggested the transmittal for the 4 cams however, during most of the season what you see are does and fawns. I'm hunting a 60 acre plot in the middle of farm country. Bucks show up on occasion but not that often until the rut/chase starts. I have about 11 other non cell cams on the property so for now that's all I'll be using.
I've never met a single person who wasn't an industry personality who actually uses them. I'm sure they are great but why would you spend $500-$600 for a single camera when you could get 4-6 cameras for the same price?
@@NextStepOutdoors You’re talking about today. Go back 20 years and everybody had Reconyx, not just professionals, especially when they released the first cellular trail camera in 2010 it was mind blowing technology.
@@NextStepOutdoors The blue transmitting light gets stuck trying to send pictures when more than 140 ish pictures at once and drains all the battery in one day! It s a known problem with the flex camera.
I’m pretty suprised by the positive Spypoint reviews. I bought 3-4 micro links just to try them out a few years ago and they were the worst cameras I’ve ever used. Looks like they have came a long way with the flex. Might have to pick up a few.
Still trash customer service is even worst. All of the sudden during hunting season and non of my cameras work they are SPYPOINT working . 1 of them is 2 weeks old the flex s out of control. Needless to say this is why I’m looking at the Video..
@@BLCKSTAR95 yeah I never ended up buying them. It seems they work good for a few weeks and after that are prone to total failure. Went with moultrie edge and haven’t had any problems so far.
They are all great cameras but if anyone runs multiple cameras like I do the SpyPoint is the way to go. I run 15 to 20 cameras a year and I pay only $99 for all of them. Only downside is you only get 250 photos a month but works great for me. I don't have high traffic areas where I run mine.
The 2 most important features in my opinion is knowing if a camera is low glow or no glow flash (840 nm vs 940nm) bc deer can see IR light. Also I’m waiting for a company to stamp every pic with the wind direction. That would be very valuable information to have attached to every pic. I don’t really care about moon phase or temperature
No glow vs low glow is important to me too. The wind direction would be super clutch. The Tactacams are now linking that data in the app based. Wind direction, pressure, etc.
I know a lot of people use them in their driveways if they are absentee land owners. Not sure how well it would work trying to take pics of a public road though.
For security usage, what one has high detail resolution from a distance to make out license plates and faces? It’s so hard to find any can from trail cams to security cams that take pics worth a crap for incrimination to identify criminals which is what I’m here searching to find one that’s valuable to use for this type of purpose to stop crime happening at our mailboxes.
Please, for heaven's sake, don't buy a Moultrie. I bought a pair of the Moultrie Edge 2's for $150, bought the annual subscription for 1 camera for $275/year, set the camera up on the app in my house, and put it on a trail 300 feet from my house. It didn't take a single picture, didn't send any notifications, wouldn't respond to app setting changes until next "check in" time but never checked in. Here's the kicker...after spending $425, Moultrie has a policy of NO REFUNDS ON SUBSCRIPTIONS !!! WTF?? NO DOWN GRADES IF YOU CHOOSE THE MOST EXPENSIVE PLAN!! OMG!
What Sd card did you for the spypoint flex. Thanks
This is the one I use amzn.to/3oHJ1rK
@@NextStepOutdoors Thank I appreciate it!
You got it!
How are your moultrie pics so clear?! I just bought an edge 2 and it seems really blurry
@@codychristensen4144 are you requesting the HD vid or picture?
@@NextStepOutdoorsI can request HD, but it says it will use 5 of my available image requests. Am I limited in those requests? So for seeming ignorant on this. This is my first cell cam I bought yesterday…
@@codychristensen4144 You get 5 with your plan but I think its super cheap to buy a big pack of HD pics.
Can you usie the EIOTCLUB SIM cards in these 3 cameras?
I don't know for sure but I doubt it. They come with preactivated SIM cards.
Damn, almost had first view!
Gonna have to be faster than that!
@@NextStepOutdoors next time for sure!
Lookin for a camera to keep an eye on my trailers in a storage facility. Thinkin go live
These don’t go live but they will send pics as soon as they are taken
Is that a Tim Meigs compound bow on your wall?
It is a browning deluxe nomad!
The flex also has GPS .
Thanks for pointing that out. Completely missed that.
Yes. It's an impressive feature.
Moultrie chose internal storage knowing you wouldn't be able to disable your data plan and use it as an offline camera. It's more of a headache than a feature, hopefully it doesn't catch on and become the norm.
I really hope the same. It's a huge bummer if you like to have all the HD pics and all the videos at the end of a season.
That's terrible. So it would be useless when they move to 6G, and so on.
I have an old 3G covert that i just use as a regular camera now.
I wonder if they work overseas. I mean on different cell companies wherever you take them.
I appreciate the input. 98% of my audience is in the U.S. so I never thought to explain that.
In the big scheme of things all that matters is seeing a shooter on camera. It doesn’t have to be crystal clear. 22:13
I’d agree with ya for the most part. I definitely enjoy getting those crispy pics/videos still.
What is this licking branch ? I'm very interested in testing that in my area...
Deer naturally use licking branches and rub their scent all over to communicate with each other. You can create one in an area you want to direct traffic too to increase the number of pictures you get, or to help you get a shot in season.
@@NextStepOutdoors Is it just a normal branch (what specie?) without the bark ?
What about camera noise? When taking pictures and videos?
All of them were undetectable from a noise perspective. To my knowledge, no cams on the market are truly made in the USA currently to answer your other question.
Can the spypoint be turned off and on remotely. Plan to use it only in daytime.
You can control the hours that it is operational, so I think you could accomplish what you are trying to do.
Good video good information 👍
Thank you sir!!!
Anyone know what he said he put on the grapevine/licking branch? That’s something I’m familiar in my neck of the woods.
I have been using buck fever synthetics forehead gland!
Is Reconyx no longer in the same league, have they been surpassed by cheaper cameras? Nobody seems to review them anymore.
Is the tactacam python cable compatible?
Yes they are
The blue light of death on the SPYPOINT flex needs to be addressed
What are you referring to?
@@NextStepOutdoors The blue transmitting light gets stuck trying to send pictures when more than 140 ish pictures at once and drains all the battery in one day! It s a known problem with the flex camera.
Ahh, interesting. I never experienced that but seems like something that they’ll hopefully fix through a firmware update?
I’m pretty suprised by the positive Spypoint reviews. I bought 3-4 micro links just to try them out a few years ago and they were the worst cameras I’ve ever used. Looks like they have came a long way with the flex. Might have to pick up a few.
Still trash customer service is even worst. All of the sudden during hunting season and non of my cameras work they are SPYPOINT working . 1 of them is 2 weeks old the flex s out of control. I think they manufacture problems during hunting season to make you buy more product.. unbelievable.. take 2 hours to get a customer service rep on the phone. Needless to say this is why I’m looking at the Video..
@@BLCKSTAR95 yeah I never ended up buying them. It seems they work good for a few weeks and after that are prone to total failure. Went with moultrie edge and haven’t had any problems so far.
surprised black gate cell cameras isnt on here
Haven't tried them yet!
Which cameras are made in the USA?
None
Ain’t like usa made is good 😂
Seizure racoons.....love it!!!!
Lol 🦝 🦝
They are all great cameras but if anyone runs multiple cameras like I do the SpyPoint is the way to go. I run 15 to 20 cameras a year and I pay only $99 for all of them. Only downside is you only get 250 photos a month but works great for me. I don't have high traffic areas where I run mine.
That's a great strategy if you run a lot of cams. Thanks for sharing! Looks like a sweet buck in your profile pic, congrats!
@@NextStepOutdoors thank you
I don't understand why you wouldn't run cuddeback on a big network
Basically Moultrie holds your pictures hostage.
Have Sasquatch activity on your property?
I used to think they might exist but after running cams for the last 15 years, I don't think so lol
Looks like a Proline hanging on your wall.
It’s a Browning Nomad!
You should have included WISE EYE far better an customer service is unreal an you don’t pay extra for HD picture and HD video
Has anyone used any of these cameras to Mount around your house to catch license plate numbers for suspicious cars around your neighborhood
I know a lot of people use them in their driveways if they are absentee land owners. Not sure how well it would work trying to take pics of a public road though.
In my experience, getting plate numbers at night is very difficult with the IR flash. All you get is a white light over the plate.
For security usage, what one has high detail resolution from a distance to make out license plates and faces? It’s so hard to find any can from trail cams to security cams that take pics worth a crap for incrimination to identify criminals which is what I’m here searching to find one that’s valuable to use for this type of purpose to stop crime happening at our mailboxes.
spypoint customer service does not exsist. left the building.
OMG! Never buying another Moultrie product in my life.🤬
WTF tactacam y'all are only running 32GB while the guys over here are running 512GB
32 will prob last you a while season unless it’s on a corn feeder and video mode
Just skip the video and buy a blackgate lol 😂 you can thank me later
Spy point flex 100 % the best I ever had
I'll likely be trying the solar version of the flex this season. Pretty excited about it.

You're in Ohio ?
Yessir!
Too much talking about deer instead of cameras
I’m a deer hunter
Sounds like an advertisement for me👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾
DO not buy the SPYPOINT they have horrible non english speaking customer support who refuse to send your issue to a higher level support. The answer for everything is to change batteries and sd card
Have you had issues recently? I had a decent amount when they first got popular 5ish years ago but they've been solid the last couple years.
Your base customer's are American I'm canadian and I use the absolute best cold weather camera on the market, it's a reconeco kunuk that takes 12 batteries built for for cold weather conditions , further more it has a lifetime warranty no questions ask , make no mistake this isn't no sissy camera it's built canadian tough, so you're video is 100% irrelevant to me.
I noticed u never replied to my statement on the reconeco trail cam, you're catering to for the most part America hunter's in warm climate hunting
I’m new to trail cams and I was wondering if all cell cams need a payment plan to hook to your phone? Asking because I’m a cheapskate 😊
SPYPOINT offers 100 free pictures a month but that’s the only “unpaid” plan out there. The rest require payment. Obviously traditional trail cams don’t require a subscription but you need to physically check the SD card.
@@NextStepOutdoors thanks for the quick reply 😎👍
