Another good tip is getting the trail cameras that send the pics to your phone. That way if they do steal your camera, you still have their photo 😉

The best way is to take a hot glue gun and glue bark on them. Don't cover lense or sensors. Just remember where you put them.

Here in Norway the public can go anywhere they like in the nature. Yes even on private farmland, as long as they respect the land and don't destroy anything. "Freedom to roam". All water areas larger then small ponds are also fully public property. You shouldn't care if someone swims in "your" lake. I'd even like to go further and see the day its not possible to permanently own land. Who the frack are we humans to claim the land under our feet? Own what you build, and thats it!

@@H.C.Q. I'm not advocating for people to have the right to come into your home or other structures. This is mostly in response to large land owners getting their panties in a knot when someone walks over their land. I never will have an issue with anyone entering my property as long as it is respected, whuch is nearly 100% of people.

We live in a rural subdivision where everyone has 3 to 5 acres or more in a few cases. The well to do family next door are trespassers who were encroaching on my land and lying about it despite them knowing that we knew they were doing it. We are worried about adverse possession so I invested in 8 trail cameras to secure my 600 foot heavily vegetated property line. It is over 200 feet from my house but much closer to the neighbor's house and masked by terrain and vegetation and woods so I cant see the property line from my house. So I hid them in the vegetation facing my newly installed fence. Well these people quickly saw what I was doing and now are standing at my property line daily, pointing at them as they walk back and forth looking at them and pretend to be doing other things to get close to my fence so they can pinpoint their location from afar. I don't think it's against the law to have trail cameras on your land hidden from view. I think it's my legal right to enjoy footage of the animals and to secure my private property. At issue I guess is that after they broke into my fence gate last month I moved them all up to within 15 to 30 feet of the fence because I never got any footage of the gate break in. They are obviously looking at my land with extreme interest to have seen these trail cams. I was the one who placed them and I cant even see them from the fence line. But these people are pointing them all out.

If you are setting up a camera to watch people and have some welding skills make an armored box for the camera. Some simple sheet steel and square stock make a nice secure box you can strap/chain to a tree or even just bolt right to it. Simple security screws to keep it closed as how many people are walking around with a set of security drivers when in the woods?

Perhaps others already mentioned that, but majority of modern mid-to-high end cameras are using passive infrared (PIR) motion detectors, which will basically only react to warm bodies moving (animals, humans, cars). Otherwise the cameras that automatically send sms messages or emails upon detection of something would be literally unusable on windy days ;)

The sensitivity of the camera can be adjusted as well as the length of video recordings. Once I found the sweet spot, I was getting great clips of deer and other animals almost every day. I was worried about battery life but have been running off the same 4 aa batteries for over a month. The SD card is easy to remove and connect to a computer. I have a Mac, and the AVI files open natively in QuickTime and are easy to save and share. This is a great, budget-friendly trail cam.

Most cams ive seen now a days have a cell conection that will send u a pic almost instantly. I have one on my,,,,, OK, so I have 14 on my VERY remote tennesse land. 3 of them send me pics via cell connection when animals or scumbags walk buy. Both are huntable, but not all of them taste good.

Be prepared to have police tell you they don't have time to go after the thieves you catch not big enough fish for them.

Trail cameras easily stolen though, unless you can disguise them, why are they so noticeable? even with camo patterns

Or I just use my shitty $100 dollar Wal-Mart Night Owl night vision I bought in 2002 and I can see your IR signature and avoid cams all together.
Where there's a will there's a way... Locks just help keep honest people honest.

Have you had trespassers that are a nuisance- you actually know there are trespassers or are you just paranoid of having trespassers?

The fact is I paid for the land, pay the taxes and the insurance. I don't invite people I don't like or know. If you want to walk on land you should buy some.
