    One of the best watches I’ve ever owned. I bought one for me and one for a friend as a gift.
    A few weeks later, my father saw it in my wrist, and really liked it. And in my culture, if someone you hold in high regards compliments you on something, you offer it to them (within reason, of course).
    It’s my beloved father, so of course, I took it off my wrist and gave it to him. I never replaced it, but I’m currently wearing a GA-2100-1A1. Love it, but I have to buy this again.

Also I’ve tried other G shocks but end up flipping them as nothing beats the compact size of this thing. It’s so tough - mine survives unscathed from heavy manual work, sea swimming, mountaineering.. the cool thing about it is everything just cleans off easily - paint, cement, oil, you name it. Just an absolute beast of a watch.

I am wearing this particular model as I write this, when I bought this watch new I didn't wear it, a decade later I unpacked it I was concerned that the rechargeble battery wouldn't work after all this time, once the watch charged up on its battery indicator meeting H for high it stayed there ever since and that was almost 3 years ago, now that justs amazeing. I love this watch. I bought this, sold 2/4 of my watches that I'd not been wearing since getting the Casio, bought an automatic Tissot that I liked, and don't wear it cause I just love the Casio that much. Always keeps perfect time, lightweight, comfortable, all the info you need, alarms, hourly signals, timer, stopwatch, timezones. You can wash dishes, shower, go swimming with it on & not have to think about it. When you bump your wrist into whatever (which for whatever reason I'm always doing) you don't freak out cause the thing is a tank.
    There are improvements to be made to the module for sure (& I have the updated module that came out 2-3 yrs ago), but every single watch guy needs one of these in their collection.

    I bought this watch a while ago. I love the retro styling. Always precisely accurate as it syncs every night with the atomic clock using the radio transmission from Anthorn in Cumbria. Radio syncing continued to work perfectly on a trip to Belgium. Mineral glass crystal is a nice touch, too. Display very easy to read, and backlight illumination effective with a subdued greenish glow. Plus, solar charging means no worries about changing the battery.

    • @kimnewton8530
      @kimnewton8530 5 лет назад +4

      The multi-band feature and solar charging are the main points for me - absolute accuracy for both date and time, and a battery that lasts and lasts, no matter how much you use the backlight.
      I also have an older solar Waveceptor with just the UK and German frequencies but that covers almost all of Europe. The UK signal stretches out way west into the North sea / Atlantic, where few of us will spend much time but the German signal overlaps well into the UK and covers more of Europe ( Southern Spain across to parts of Turkey and Greece etc.).
      GPS might be even better because the watch will automatically switch time zones, but watches like that cost much more and ultimately are only more accurate when there's no radio signal.
      Having said that, at an accuracy of +/- 15 secs per month, watches like the 5610 are rarely more than a second or two out anyway before they manage to sync again.

    Thanks for another comprehensive & excellent review. A few weeks ago I bought the GW-M5610-1ER after deliberating over the many G-Shocks, I'm pleased I got the right one. I agree with all your comments & it really is a cracking watch. Everyone in the immediate family is wearing a Casio although we all have at least one expensive watch! My Wife is wearing a F-91W, my Son, who has a large high end watch collection, is wearing a DW-290 in preference to all his other watches. For those who don’t already know, there is now an updated module (from the 3195 here to the 3495). It’s official designation is the gmw 5610u. Updates include: Much better GMT features when travelling; reversible day/month which European and other non U.S. regions will appreciate; current time always visible from each mode; LED backlight which uses less battery; stopwatch improvements. In other words, it now has exactly the same functions as the $500+ metal G-Shocks minus the Bluetooth connectivity (which requires faffing around with a ‘smart’ app on your phone/tablet anyway). Wisely, Casio left the look identical. Well, almost. The observant among you will notice it now just says “LIGHT” on the top right border of the screen instead of “EL. BACK LIGHT”
    UPDATE: It also has a slight bezel change making the “A” button (top left) in particular easier to access.

    • @jemandthemystery
      @jemandthemystery Год назад +1

      @@dsfgasdgqweq3456t534 Well, I don’t know about “awful”. It’s a matter of taste and practicality. The LED is undoubtedly brighter (less easy to see this on video compared to real life as it were). On the updated version it can be set to 3 seconds. But yes, the EL screen is more even from all viewing angles. Eventually though, it does deteriorate and even at full strength looks a little looking through a swimming pool at the digital numerals.
      Side note: The LED isn’t exactly the same on all models - at least subjectively. For example, I also own a black, full metal square with the STN negative display. The LED on that is close to perfectly even and, because of the negative display, it makes the numerals a sky blue over a midnight blue background. Quite a classy look.

    • @betulaobscura
      @betulaobscura Год назад

      @@dsfgasdgqweq3456t534 LED consumes less energy and it lasts much longer without any issues than electro-luminescence. LED was used in the first generations of G-Shocks. Casio is replacing all EL with LED for a reason. There are many YT videos why LED is better than EL.

    I have the original. The screw back DW5000. Amazing, decades old, backlit with a miniature incandescent bulb. It's been through many new cases and straps but only 4 batteries in all that time, I even used to scuba dive with it, and operate the buttons underwater! Crazy to think that a 1980s digital watch will become a still working heirloom.

      I too have the original, bought in Ibiza in 1983. Have dived with it and abused it all for this time.
      Many straps and bezels purchased but only 4 batteries in 41 years.
      I don’t think that I would like to scuba with it now but I am tempted to give it a 6atm pressure test one day.
      The only thing that has gone wrong is one of the bezel fixing screws has sheered off, but the remaining three keep it in place without a problem.
      The incandescent bulb is still working and lights up the display quite well I think.
      I have many Casio watches and have just ordered this one reviewed.
      I do however have some issues with Casio.
      Some watches have only a 60 min countdown and others a 24 hour, why?
      Some have a 60 min stopwatch and others 24 hours and in some cases much more (1000h with the Rangeman!) Why the restrictions?
      Please give us the option to change the date format on all Casios, not just the odd few.
      I do wonder if all of these inconsistencies are supposed to make us keep buying different models.
      Listen up Casio, we would still buy them! Maybe even more so, as I’ve elected not to buy some models because of the decision to omit certain features, which, at the end of the day are just programming restrictions and nothing to do with the limitations of a given display.

    • @simonreid_eMTB

    Not sure if it's been said but this watch recently got an updated module. You can now set the date to MM.DD or DD.MM for all other countries that differ from the USA format. Also the new one uses an LED for backlighting that uses less energy, is more reliable, has a cool white blue color and can be set to last from 1 to 3 seconds. So you can flick the wrist less... or more if you like the new color better. 🙂

    Been a watch nut on and off for 50 years had many including Rolex , Omega , Tag Heuer, Oris and countless others but my favourite watch is my Full metal G Shock GMW-B5000D-1ER cost me around £450 , it's just a great watch does everything I could ask is tough , will last me until I die , needs no servicing or babying , is in my opinion an absolute iconic design with the familiar square face harking back to the 80s original , obviously it's more expensive than the resin cased versions that essentially are specced the same but I like the stainless steel and the fact it's a bit more up market . Truly a great watch brand , my friends are shocked when I tell them what I paid for a "digital watch " and a "casio" to boot , their ignorance of how great these watches are does not bother me , I'm pretty smug knowing I know the true worth of the brand and it's amazing G Shock offering . I've had one or 2 cheap Casio watches and the only thing seems to go wrong with them is the strap because the 10-year battery seems to last forever however I think you just talked me into buying this G shock. Thanks for a great review

      @@LastWatch No Problem:D Great watch but i would change some stupid things.But for now i'm happy.I was shocked how smal the 5610 is on my wrist compared to the GD-X I was waring round about 5month.Very unfamiliar

    Bought the updated "U" variant last month, wears great, and I couldn't be happier with a watch where I can "set it and forget it". I've always been a sucker for atomic timekeeping as I hate having to manually correct watches, even with the budget Casios that is technically more accurate than a Rolex. Given the renowned durability of G-Shocks, I hope to have many adventures with it!

    I got the $40 version, had it for 6 years, just replaced the battery yesterday. The watch looks extremely worn down but still functions perfect, nothings broken.

    I had this watch for a few years then did a six year prison term and it’s still going and has been worn every day for the last couple years since I have been out. Amazing

      You can wear a watch? I would of thought it would be taken off you until you are released?

    Been wearing this watch 5 times a week for work two years in a row now. Sometimes I’ll even leave it on my days off. Trouble-free. No issues at all. I just had the strap holder break but that’s plastic and not related to the mechanics of this watch. Would recommend this watch.

    I have this G shock and I really like it. I find it doesn't attract too much attention because most people at a first glance think it most likely one of those cheap F91W Casio watches. I also have a G-Shock Riseman G-9200MS but that does attract attention because of the big size of it. I do enjoy G shocks and I think they are excellent value for money. Great video by the way.
