I’m a bit of watch nerd & love all watch types. I’ve been lucky enough to be able to collect a lot of high end watches - Rolex / Omega / Tudor / Grand Seiko - but none of them outshine this amazing little watch! I also have several CasiOaks & Gshock variants.
I used to think that non-mechanical watches lacked the “soul” that you get from manual & automatic movements, but there are 3 features give this watch “soul” in my opinion- 1) tough Solar with the power level indicated on the screen- it tells you when it could use a top up- you put it on the sun a bit & it rewards you on the display 2) the multi-band 6- I have it set to automatically synch, but you can also manually request a synch- adds another bit of interactivity - BTW- I use this watch to set all of my other watches as a result of this great feature 3) the auto-light feature- when it’s dark & you flick your wrist, the light automatically turns on so that you don’t have to fumble for that tiny little button.
All in all- this watch really gives you everything you need from a functional perspective, along with being bombproof. Again- other than dressy occasions, you could stop after buying this little gem and be perfectly happy. I like it so much I’ve gifted several to friends & family!

I think a lot of the watch community have snubbed the GShock for a long time but they're slowly coming around to the wit many becoming huge fans. I'm sure you'll agree there's always room on any wrist for a nice automatic watch and a nice GShock too. Thanks for watching

One thing about tough solar is, that even if the battery shows signs of degradation, the watch would still be usable. My Dw 9300 I bought in early 2000 is now down to only charge up to half of battery capacity, after around 17 years. Still ticking after 20 years now. I'm going to replace the battery though, right after I could source a new seal set from Casio.

Yep, Casio really have set themselves up for win after win with these watches. I've got a few non-solar watches from them that say '10 year battery' that are way older than that and still working. It's like witch craft 😊

The 5610 is definitely the best G-Shock out there (for me). If the DW5900 had the solar/multi-band 6 functionality, possibly, I would say it is the best. No one can go wrong with the 5610. So light weight and so comfortable and retro-cool!

I wear it at work (where it gets bumped into metal a few times a day) and I worn it on our last tip to Thailand. I have been swimming in the ocean with it. Walking through a tropical forrest. And endured heat around 40 degrees celcius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) in high humidity. Still looks like new, even after 2 years.

I understand what you are saying about the bracelet, but it is necessary to mention that when you buy a g-shock from the 5600 line, you are not just buying a watch, but an icon, and a piece of world watch history. Casio is very clear about it. As for its reduced dimensions, more than necessary, because compared to the first models it is millimeters smaller, I think it is about compensating for the number of new complications, so that its weight remains reduced, and continue offering the same or more impressive features than the original model. It is necessary to understand the idiosyncrasy of the Japanese, full of ancient knowledge. His way of transcending time is by approaching perfection with small steps, what is good is not touched, what is bad is resolved with a lot of time of study, to achieve the most optimal results possible. That is why, 40 years later, a large part of the world's population still prefers a G-Shock, as they prefer a Honda motorcycle, or as they prefer Japanese animation. With their "smart" watches it seems that they started off badly, however one of their main advantages is offering the same durability and resistance capabilities that characterize them. That prestige is not negotiable. But I certainly believe that with that same idiosyncrasy, they will be able to come up with the best smartwatch ever invented (I hope to see it and be able to get one).

I own two 5610's and they are awesome watches for the price. I haven't purchased the updated one where you can change the day and date format as I am used to having the format which are used on a lot of Casio digital display watches. I have a small size wrist and the strap size is perfect for my wrist and that is why I haven't bought other G-Shock watches which are huge and wear like a tower block on my wrist. You are right though the strap on a 5610 may be a bit short on a larger size wrist but you can choose another strap quite easily or Casio can just offer a optional size when you order one. Great review.

This watch is my real EDC - I looooove it. I wear it every single day since many years now. I don't have to care for it: time by time I clean it but that's it. It just keeps working without complaining, without the need of opening the body for replacing the battery. Oh yes, I also own a beautiful Fortis but it's a Diva in comparison. I am proud on my Fortis but I prefer my Casio. The strap should be replaced?? Why? It is the best I ever had. It is really durable, comfortable and can be opened/closed very quickly. I like the feature that the light turns on automatically for about 1 sec when I turn my wrist towards myself. No need to press a light button. But one thing is annoying: I cannot change the date display from mm.dd to dd.mm. Maybe I have an older software version. This is the only downside I see. So if I had to recommend one single watch, this special Casio would be it! Great review! Thank you very much!

Nice review, this is the new 5610u updated version of this model that first came out in 2012? I believe the strap has been used on squares since 1996? And a similar one on the earlier squares. I personally have used squares since 1987 and I really think the strap is great! I never change them out as they become so comfortable in use and they may look flimsy and cheap at first, but they will take major abuse so I don't think Casio use them without good reason? If it isn't broke dont fix it?These squares have become cult classics with 80s versions still going and commanding high premium prices. The strap is part of its cult classic appeal? And they are cheap to replace if you can break it!
