Atomic is not a gimmick, it syncs everyday for me. The most important point from the atomic feature for me is that i never have to adjust the time for summer/winter time. This together with solar makes it that you never have to set the watch ever again. Set it up when you buy it and you are good to go for life.

    • @luckywave3339

      I agree.
Never having to change battery and never having to set time is so chill that I often pick a gshock over one of my nicer watches.
Saying atomic is a gimmick is like saying automatic watches are a gimmick because they are more expensive compared to manual watches.
Get an atomic and you'll love it.

At night, when i woke up with all lights off, it was nice to check the time and see how much more sleep i could get before next watch. It looked good in uniform, PT gear or in casual R an R gear. One watch for one exciting life. Hey, i accidently did a commercial. Lol. Seriously i stand by this watch. It really did take care of me. as i traveled and served.

A very entertaining video (I was laughing at your display of G-Shock addiction). I don't have a G-Shock, but I do have a Casio A168 which I've been very pleased with.
The main reasons I haven't considered a G-Shock is that I've found that any watch band other than metal to be uncomfortable to wear, and I don't need a watch that is as tough or has the massive number of features as a G-Shock.

Own 38 G Shocks and now waiting for the 39th and... if I may:
    1. They don't irritate your skin, not more than any other much more expensive brands.
    2. They are stylish AF 😎 if you match them properly, been to exclusive parties where people asked me about the watch I'm wearing (full metal golden square)
    3. Atomic time keeping works flawlessly for people who travel, changed 8 countries in 1 year and never had to set my time so... not a gimmick, not to some.
    4. G Shocks offer the best price/quality in watch industry, if you want/need cheaper buy regular Casio or other brands but... you'll see what I mean, they worth every penny.
    5. Apple watch is for people who can't live without the simplicity of Apple, I have one and... it's crazy, charge it, doesn't help much... rather buy a new phone, easier... add some money and you have your dream phone.
    6. Suunto is good but won't stand what a G Shock does, also they don't age as good.
    Nice points 👏 subscribed!

Excellent. The atomic watchkeeping might depend on your range from the transmitter. Here in the UK, you're always within range but in the wilds of other countries, it might be a problem. The watch DOES tell you if it doesn't receive a signal.
With or without atomic function, you cant beat a G Shock.

Broke 3 G-Shocks in the military. During that time I never had a single issue with my other rotation of watches which were all non-digital. Also broke a Suunto Vector.
All of this taught me a very valuable lesson avoid digital.
You know what you never see someone walking around with a 1980s G-Shock on their wrist that's original. Every G-Shock out there that's more than 5 years old has had some component replaced on it excluding batteries that's just going to happen. I've got watches from the '70s that have had nothing replaced on them nor have I ever had to do anything to them. There of course automatics but that's my point, avoid digital because they simply are not designed to last.
Now if you're just wearing them as a fashion item I guess that's okay, but I've always had a very strict adherence that digital watches are for children or athletes. Digital watches on a child make total sense because they're so lightweight for an athlete the digital factor makes sense because it's easier to keep track of seconds when training.
You taking individual and you put them in the exact same clothes and put a Casio G-Shock on their wrist and it has a certain look you turn around you put a Rolex submariner or an Omega seamaster professional on their wrist in the same outfit now they totally look different and it just adds a little bit more to the overall look of them, they look more grown up.
Smart watches aren't smart because it makes no sense you have a cell phone so if you get a text message your cell phone's going to vibrate in your pocket and you know you got a text message. With the way modern earbuds have gone you can keep one earbud in and when you get a phone call it can alert you right in the earbud and you can take the phone call straight from your earbud. The smartwatch serve no function other than being redundant.
This isn't a rant this is just me pointing out the obvious.

I put the watch by a south facing window at night before midnight local time and it picks up a signal most of the time at midnight. The exception is during storms and heavy rains. If I miss a synchronization on one night, it picks up the atomic signal the next night. I believe that if it misses a signal at midnight, it tries again every hour several times. Thanks for your wonderful video. I have 4 G-Shocks, 2 Protreks, and 2 Edifices, but the latest one I bought is the g-shock mtg-b2000. The criteria for choosing a watch after turning 50 should not be a urethane strap (there was a trauma that caused it to break because it broke and had to buy it twice as expensively as it got old) and it should be a solar cell. If you open the battery a few times to insert the battery, it is easy to have a problem with waterproofing, and if the body is made of plastic, it peels off and grinds over time, so I buy a product made of metal or carbon... That is the conclusion I learned while buying a watch for about 20 years. The phone and Bluetooth function automatically set the time, which is great. And if possible, buy a G-Shock. Since it hasn't broken yet...

I love my G-Shocks. The resin band doesn't bother me, but in the summer time it gets sweaty and slippery. I have a GA700 and a DW6900 and a few other cheap casios. I'll definitely have more G-Shocks and Casio squares. They're so reliable, functional, and wear great casually, working out, and being outdoors.

To the last point: I also disagree with people who look down on the G-Shock. It's a tool, it works, and no matter what I do with it it will still be telling time even if I'm not there to see it. It's overkill, I love overkill with my cars, my watches, my knives, my guns, and my wrenches. End of story

G-Shocks are truly amazing watches and the way I see it is that you cannot call yourself a serious watch collector or connoisseur if you do not at least own one. I still have my military-issued DW6600 that was given to me 11 years ago. I still have it and it's still going STRONG. That model was discontinued but my understanding is that it was replaced with the DW6900 which is also a great model, but I personally recommend the DW6900MS-1. I did purchased the DW5600 which I believe is the quintessential G-Shock to own; great looking too. But I will recommend the DW5600MS-1. On another note, the atomic timekeeping feature is highly overrated, same for the solar power feature.

I just watched your video and appreciate your input on G-Shock watches. I don't agree with much of your reviews, but that's ok right? I find the bands to be very comfortable for my wrist. I love all the features and don't care if I can't get email and make phone calls on it. That's why I have a phone. I have 6 Mudmasters and just bought a 7th. Why do I love Mudmasters? I love the LOOK! I'm 6-4 and 220 lbs and they just fit my body and my lifestyle. They are indestructible, water, mud, snow, rocks, sand, dirt, wind, drop, throw, kick, you understand. But mostly they just look so dang GOOD! Oh yeah, cost. Don't care. Addicted. But I did like your video.

Atomic timekeeping really depends on the country and buildup of buildings in your area. Like, I get zero coverage in Vancouver, but in UK - london of all places - I can get reception. Europe around netherlands/germany no prob. In spain I have yet to get signal in my area but maybe going to a big park will change that.

    • @thebaker8637
      @thebaker8637 Год назад +1

I currently live in Central London but my 10th floor flat gets generally bad signal reception so I have to manually sync either by putting it on a windowsill or manually when I’m going to work in the morning, both of which work reliably. If the thing synced past 3am on its own I’d have no problems…
Everywhere else in Europe I’ve had zero issues getting an automatic sync working, including Norway, by the Black Sea, Eastern Poland, and even Helsinki, even though they are meant to be out of range. Maybe reception in the US is worse somehow.

I owned a G-Shock for few years, it's been a great watch for me as a soldier, The analog clock was great for night use, it allowed me to check the time without getting myself exposed, (glass was covered) the digital function was used for precision time measuring, one day the watch was stolen so i bought a new one just to find out that the analog watch was getting out of synchronization, for military use this poses a huge issue, the battery was out after 6 months of use, when i tried to look into it nothing came out. I'm able to tell that the only difference between my first and reliable watch to the spoiled one is that the first was made in Japan and the second was made in Thailand. I hope it will help someone out there to make a smart purchase.

I’ve been wearing G’s for about 20 years doing very heavy duty physical labour and haven’t had the rash issue, so it’s probably more an issue with those who are allergic to resin. Hard to beat a G for toughness. None of mine have failed and I have put them through hell.
The worse watch snobs in my experience are the Rolex bunch who typically hate G wearers...but who cares what anyone else thinks.
Solar is a funny one. Solar batteries don’t last forever and are not replaceable afaik. Normal batteries are cheap and easy to replace and last perhaps as long as a solar battery if you don’t use the alarms and light much.
Reverse displays are just cool but not as readable BUT the non-solar versions are usually clearer. Some models have excellently legible reverse displays such as the GD-350.

    i got a Protrek, but i had a G shock before that
1- yes resine strap is giving rashes, but you know what ? i broke mine, & i bought the same resine strap replacement !
2- solar power is great, i had a message lately "low battery", i put the watch close to a lamp in the evening, problem solved !
3- auto back light is useless most of the time
4- negative display was so appealing on adverts, but so difficult to read in every day use
5- Atomic auto timing is coool, i never adjust time for years
6- expensive, yes, i never use barometer, altimeter & thermometer, i thought thermometer would be nice, but heat from the body change the reading so ...
7 - yes G Shock are chunky & eye catching, that mudmaster is so niiice, but my next waych should be a Citizen promaster
8- last but not least the resine cover all around the watch preserve from scratch & shocks as i am very clumsy
