I've owned the GW-5000 (pre U model) for nearly 6 years now. It's by far my favorite G-Shock. I can see what you mean about the looks side of things, for a Casio it's quite plain! But for me, it's the underratedness of it all that draws me in.
I like the contrast between just having white lettering and black watch. I even considered the 40 year anniversary 5657 because that only has the name Casio on the dial. Looks really neat. But yeah. I went for the GW5000u because of the weight and functionality. It just feels a bit nicer to me in general.
The 5610 is a perfect travel watch, you can change time zones quickly, it’s always on time, and the solar charging means it’ll near go dead. I have a 10 year old 5600 and it is great too but changing to the new time zone and seeing the time at home in one glance is a huge plus, trust me.
Agreed, and I discovered the timer function as a perfect organizer for boarding time. On the jorney you sometimes dont want to know the actual time, but how much time you have left before boarding. So I set the countdown to boarding time. And if you need to (on the 3461 module at least) you see the home time in one glance as well. And as a special feature you don't have to take off the g-shock at the security.

To me the precision level of the standard G-5600UE-1 doesn’t need the radio-controlled function. IMHO that feature doesn’t justify the price increase. And I agree with this review on the strap, that’s why I replaced it with a cheap softer and more comfortable after-market one. But again, Casio offers so many options at a reasonable price that anone can find its own model.
The watch you need is the G5600ue. It looks exactly like the DW5600 but is tough solar and has the new 3496 module inside so is basically the same as the GWM5610u and the GW500u. The only thing it’s missing is the multiband 6 function…..but hey….you can’t have everything 😀👍😀
Great video!!! I have the same issue with my collecting of Square casios. To day i got my GW-5000U and throw aside my Hamilton field and the apple watch and the rest of the collection of about 300 cheaper and high price swiss and japanese watches. And i love it!
You still need a GM-B5600 (resin bluetooth square) and GMWB 5000 (full metal bluetooth square). The ability to connect to a phone and change settings easily, plus time sync, is superb. The full metal squares have a solid, premium feel, and the resin bluetooth squares have all the functions in a much lighter form.
GW-5000U is the most elegant and the most classy looking from all G-Shocks! It fits to suits, uniforms, casual clothes... It has also the original construction type with stainless, screw back case.
@@folksurvival If you know how to combine colours and patterns, you will achieve nice visual effects. There is common misconception that digital watches can't be mixed with suits.
After hours of wondering which G-Shock I should buy, gradually eliminating from my selection, I ended up watching your video where you present the last 3 models that I hesitate between. Awesome xD
I remember the television commercial in the 80's of a Casio g shock being used as a hockey puck being shot at a goaltenders glove...........so cool! these watches are indestructible
Awesome sharing sir. It brings me back to my childhood every time I press the light button. My GW7900B still runs on solar energy for the last 10 years and maybe more. Radio synced a few times from Athens, Greece to Mainflingen Germany with good weather at night. What an awesome watch...
I don't agree with the 5600 not being a versatile watch as far as what you wear it with.... in fact, I think that's one of its best features because of its...dare I say...boring no frills looks it can be worn with pretty much anything....contrary to what people think you don't need gold...silver...diamond...etc,etc watch to wear with a suit....now of course I wouldn't wear a yellow or orange or any gaudy looking watch but the basic 5600...definitely...it's just an all around very versatile watch
I had afew resin case G shock' lugs fail on me. When you're hard on them, those spring bars will make cut outs and makes the watch no longer secure. End up ordering Gw5000U due to it stainless steel case, gone are the days springbars damaging those lug holes.
Started with the GW-5000U but now almost exclusively wear the GWM-5610U and DW-5600E daily. I have the orange NASA4 as well (two actually) as well as the Super Mario one, the 40th anniversary DW-5040PG, and a couple other squares. The G-5600UE is probably my favorite due to it having all of the 5610 functions (minus MB6) and it looks like a DW-5600. I love the 90’s face colors more than the original 80’s ones. Definitely want to pick up an original DW-5600C from the mid 90’s!
As someone who lives under the tropics, resin bands are the only option. Metal gets hot, nato lasts too long to dry and you end up with rashes, but resin is perfect. It doesn't make you sweat unless you wear it too tight.
Resin watches are light enough that you can wear them loose to allow your skin to breathe. If you wear a metal cased watch loose that weight swings and is annoying.
For anybody getting their first square, the best bang for your buck has to be the GWM 5610u? You can set it and forget it! The amazing thing is that it's cheaper than the basic DW-5600E although that's a better looking of the two? There is another model and that's the G5600e a solar model not so common but can be had at really good prices! The bland look of the GW 5000 with the ridiculous price tag is just not worth the cash ? You are paying a couple of hundred bucks for a metal case??
Great review! Funny.I have the DW-5600E and agree about the colourway, as it is similar to my DW-5200 that I bought in October 1984, a wonderful watch that has gone to two middle east cnflicts with no issues. However, the GW-5000U has got to be the ultimate apocalypse watch. Not only is it Atomic and solar, The date can be viewed by all, whether American or European without being cheesed-off, but the builld is right up there with the original ones. Supertough steel screwback case covered in rubber with the DLC coated back. The minimalist look of the face appeals to me and the material of the strap and bezel is in a different class. At nearly 3 times the cost of the GW-M5610, it's a fair bit pricier, but this has gotta be the best watch in the real world, judging by how my 39 year old DW-5200 has fared. Just buy one, you won't regret it. BTW, my DW5600E (NASA Certified) is for sale, now, on ebay.
The same three are my favorites! I think the 5000U looks the best, but it's too heavy because of the metal housing, the resin material is too soft, and it's also a bit expensive. The 5610 is the most practical because it knows everything and is light. What I like about the 5600 is that it is the simplest, cheapest model. Since it works with a battery, I don't have to worry about charging, I don't constantly turn my arm towards the sun on the street. It's the cheapest, simplest, and therefore gives you the most freedom. I always sync with time.is when I use it, so I'm within a second of the time when I walk out the door. :D This watch collection is really a disease, I really like your video, you summarized everything well. :D
How did I not know you had a watch channel! Just got mine (5600 classic) yesterday and absolutely love it. Binged your mic reviews, now will binge this channel 😄
I blacked out the white recessed text "Protection" & "G-Shock" with a black Sharpie. I pushed the felt tip into the recessed text. Then rubbed off the Sharpie ink on the top of the rubber case. I think it cleans up the look.
A 5610 in the 5600 case style is the only G Shock I would ever need or want. Until then, I'll change the battery in my 5600 every 8-10 years....no biggie! 🙃
What you are looking for (minus multi band 6🤷🏻♂️) is the „ G-Shock G-5600UE-1JF“ 😉👍 It has the same/better functionality than the 5000 (minus band6), and the looks of the original Speed G-shock! 😮
Thanks so much for this. There were a number of suggestions about this that led to me picking it up! I think this comment section is going to go down in history as one of the best and most helpful comment sections in the history of youtube.
I like that description of it being a disease.. As you say the g-shock is the only watch I really need it does everything you need in a watch so I often ask myself why do I have 20+ watches some of which I rarely if ever wear... I've no idea I just see a watch I like and think that's cool I'll get that...
Love the video! I also collect G-Shock squares and the DW 5600s have the best negative displays, I bought the negative display of the GW-M561OU and that is a complete nightmare to try and read...
Today I found out that the G-5600UE gives me all the things the 5000 has, except the multi band 6. Found it for a good price and ordered it. And what do you know? It has the same colors and almost the same text layout as the 5600. Sure, it does not have the multi-band 6, but I really could care less about that. It has solar, it has worldtime, you can see the time while using stopwatch or timer. You should have a look at it. IT has the same dimensions as the 5610. Thaks for the video.
@@yusufbest4475 you're right, it's the thing that's missing (given that I don't care for multi-band or bluetooth), and to think that it's a JDM model, they missed that opportunity.
I have a dw5600 kept as sleeper for almost 3 year, im very impressed with the accuracy being only few seconds ahead with the current time. Meanwhile 5610 and 5000 were few minutes ahead.. Yes agreed with you that it's a problem, ppl these days really doesn't precious 1 or 2 timepiece like old days.
I just picked up one of the casioaks with solar and it's been fantastic. I totally agree on the band, and I wish desperately that I could trade it for something in leather or nylon or canvas.
If you're worried about losing or gaining 5-7 sec a day , well get one, but even without the radio control they are to within 15 seconds a year. I have two, GW5000-1JF and GW5000U-1JF, but also have mechanical pocket watches and Jageur LeCoultre from 1800 to 1950s, I adjust them once a week, and set them via my Gshock.
I own 2 G Shocks da Mudmaster GGB100-B and da G Shock DW-5600HR-1CR, love the both. I've always worn a watch since I was a kid. I feel more weird than I already am🤣🤣🤣 when I don't wear one.
Now you need to acquire the JDM, CASIO G-SHOCK GW-S5600U-1JF! Of course, many others as well. This is also my strange addiction! I'm lacking the 5000u but I do own 2 of the "Speed" squares (DW 5600c) though, in perfect working condition.
I bought the pre U model GW5000 about 6.5 years ago because it reminded me so much of the original that I coveted as a kid. After a while it began to look a bit ratty and tatty so I bought a replacement bezel and strap set and it is literally a brand new watch now. Thing is even time resistant!
The greatest square G-Shock is the Casio W800H, and it's not even part of the G-Shock line. Seriously, $20, it's amazing, and I struggle to find things meaningful to me that the G-Shock line can do that this watch can't. I have put it through rough conditions and it's still going. It's beat up with a few scratches and scuffs here and there, but it's not going to die any time soon. How often would I be in a situation where a G-Shock would survive and the W800H wouldn't? If I do find myself in that unlikely situation, I'd probably have worse things to worry about. If my W800H was damaged enough to die and I was somehow not harmed from whatever situation would kill my watch, only $20 for a replacement would still put me ahead in money spent. I highly suggest people check out the W800H because it might be all they need in a digital watch, especially if they don't need the small bump in features a G-Shock gives.
👍💯 Поддерживаю, а ещё, если умеешь работать паяльником, в w800h можно добавить дополнительные мультифункциональные будильники, и таймер с автоповтором ! 👍
Drakar Noir was still popular in the 2000's........back to watches the 5610 is my go to daily watch because it always works. My other watches require yearly battery replacement. The tough solar 5610 always has juice in its battery. Best watch ever!
I had the old DW-5000 as a kid and I loved that watch, had it a few years, then about a year ago I got a gw5000 a really well built watch with all the functions you need, since then I have purchased another 3 gshocks and would like a few more for a little collection,I would like to add the black metal square with resin strap next and the price of that is double what the gw5000 is,you can get hooked on collecting shocks many do,there is dozens of different squares for a start.
Still hoping for an auto perpetual timer on the basic solar models. GWX-5600 has a 2-stage 10-loop tomer and also tidal data, but it's not as good on the basics as the newer G-5610U
@@ninjasrose1653 They are both beasts and yet suit my 6.5" wrist. Great question, if I were to add a 3rd, it would be independent. I like the look of 'Brew watches' Metric - black dial with a pop of colour and unique chronograph style. What's in your collection?
Have you looked into the G5600UE? It basically looks like a DW5600 but has all the functionality of the GWM5610U without MB6. It also shares the same case and bezel as the GWM5610U.
Thank you so much. It's funny how tastes change because I went from hating it, to tolerating it, to absolutely loving it. Now I kind of want to get rid of everything except for a classic 5600e (not even the UE)
I dont need a formal watch and i waired my G-Shock on many formal occasions like dates, weddings or work related get togethors in restaurants and honestly I get more interested comments on the useability on the watch. I think personally comaped to a apple watch this one is more formal in my humble opinion. The upside is the durability and my main takes is time, date, stopwatch and step counter. anything besides that is not important, I use the GBD-200 for a upgraded display.
Your ultimate watch would be........The 5000U is steel with a rubber bezel, rather than a resin case with a thin steel back screwed into it with 4 tiny screws. I guess you want that GW-5000U with the original DW-5200C(Hero)/ DW-5600C(Speed) colourway. Essentially it looks like a watch bought between 1984-1996 with Tough Solar and Atomic timekeeping and a date that can suit everyone..........and Made in Japan! haha.
I couldn’t do it, the side buttons were too hard, weird. I feel funny about getting a watch with atomic time and it displays the wrong time out of the box plus I couldn’t read it without glasses, lol. If I have to sit down with the manual I am like not for me. But I get why many love it.
My 5600 is the best beater watch I've ever owned. Virtually indestructible. The 5610 would be even better, I will get one of those if my 5600 ever breaks.
I continue to come back to the 5600e-1v time and time again over all the other G-shocks. The simplicity of it and the nostalgia it evokes wins out for me. All the function I truly need and nothing more. Great watch you have there Danny, thanks for sharing.
This is such an entertaining and nerdy review I had to subscribe. I have 4 squares and am really looking at the $40 classic one because it is a forty damn dollars G-Shock in all its glory. Watch collecting is a disease.
I wore a 5610U for yeara and while it is a good watch a GD350 is a better upgrade. Vibration alarm, auto-light, 100 city times, instant countdown button, super clear negative display. Skip the 5610 and get a 350.
I don’t understand why you’re saying that the 5610 is taller than the 5600. The 5600 model is clearly a thicker casing than the 5610, whereas the 5610 only wins in width.
I love when people make themselves laugh. That was good... on the squares, I agree. CASIO, produce a g5000ue with some color on it. Please give me a brick boarder or red stripe, something to look at. I Werth m want the dial of the 5610U or brick boarder in a metal case with the 3495 or 3496 module. I want that metal case, but it's too boring. ( I remember watching the g shock hockey puck commercial on tv. I bought my 1st square DW5600 in 1987. I was 16. Wearing a square is like memory lane for me. ) Thanks and good luck.
Thanks for the review. Personally bought the solar powered version of casio G-Shock DW 5600 watch... Utterly disappointed with brand Casio G-Shock! Just after 3 or 4 months of normal usage ( No swimming, No Diving, No Extreme water Sports, No Surfing) it developed fog and water vapour inside the glass disrupting the time view. I went to the Casio Service centre but the service center people bluntly told me that there was no option for replacement. They also shamelessly told me that their watches are water resistant and not water proof. They said they never claim that their watches are water proof in their advertising also. They simply changed some parts and dried the fog or water vapour inside AND after a few months the fog and water vapour inside the glass RETURNED. What a Waste. 👎 Had it been the case of putting the watch under extreme conditions , it is understandable, but the refusal to replace the watch under normal conditions seemed callous and unprofessional on part of Casio. Utterly disappointed by such a big brand LIKE CASIO AND G-SHOCK with big & HOLLOW claims! 😒 Big advertising and low quality.
man im trying to find that NASA edition you have there used on eBay but no luck. such a nice watch collection you have there with those square faces. nice stuff.
I used to not be a fan of Square watches ( Apple watches are UGLY) never been a fan of Apple. Now that I wear the G-Shock DW-5600HR-1CR, I actually like the square look. I rotate that with my mud master. My other watches have been sitting in their cases sadly . But when you're out in the wild you need something to hold up to the elements in the wild
Only problem is i always feel digital watches are so...unsophisticated? Idk like analog is honestly faste to read and with lume dont even have to hit light to see in the dark
@6:16 "square...is not for formal events...like weddings" Ironically, I went to my brother's wedding, in a Tuxedo, wearing a "square"! Of course, it is a premium "square" the: GMW-B5000MB-1. I'm not in love with this plastic/resin models, so I never going to buy one, the Casio Oak's work better for me, but the steel and titanium squares are class apart. I suggest buying one of those and make a video review.
I have been tempted by the MB model since it came out because I dislike the high polish metal for me. But I also dislike negative displays. If they drop the MB one with a positive display, or a brushed stainless steel, they’ll get my money.
If you're a professional, a watch is expected to be on your wrist. My DW5600E suffices for that purpose. When at the bar, you need something shiny on the wrist. My Casio Duro (black dial) works surprisingly well in that context. If I'm really trying to impress a lady, I'll borrow my one of my son's Rolex watches. I like his Milgauss the most.
Ha! A lot of people wear smart watches to formal occasions. You see them on the wrists. As for GShocks for formal occasions. During a formal, take the watch off the wrist, and put it in jacket pocket. When the event is over, put it back on the wrist. Watches are meant to be a tool to tell the time, and not for show. If you want a watch for show, go out and buy a Panerai. Period!

But again, Casio offers so many options at a reasonable price that anone can find its own model.
Does the 5600ue have the screwdown caseback/steel case as well?
Except the solid steel case.
@@yusufbest4475
Nope.
@@fabferrari
Why would you want to omit a great function like Multiband 6?
The watch you need is the G5600ue. It looks exactly like the DW5600 but is tough solar and has the new 3496 module inside so is basically the same as the GWM5610u and the GW500u. The only thing it’s missing is the multiband 6 function…..but hey….you can’t have everything 😀👍😀
I should have purchased that instead of the basic 5600...
Not suits.
@@folksurvival It does. I use it with Harris Tweed for example.
@@betulaobscura Well aesthetically it would not go with Harris Tweed at all. It would be an awful and jarring combination.
@@folksurvival If you know how to combine colours and patterns, you will achieve nice visual effects. There is common misconception that digital watches can't be mixed with suits.
@@betulaobscura It's not about the colour.
After hours of wondering which G-Shock I should buy, gradually eliminating from my selection, I ended up watching your video where you present the last 3 models that I hesitate between. Awesome xD
G5600UE tough solar
I remember the television commercial in the 80's of a Casio g shock being used as a hockey puck being shot at a goaltenders glove...........so cool! these watches are indestructible
5000u is the best looking watch for me, I like the stealth look
Awesome sharing sir. It brings me back to my childhood every time I press the light button. My GW7900B still runs on solar energy for the last 10 years and maybe more. Radio synced a few times from Athens, Greece to Mainflingen Germany with good weather at night. What an awesome watch...
I have the 5610. Absolutely love it but man that 5000-U has been speaking to me. Such a beautiful, clean piece.
Would love to see you try the GDB-200 ! Dont use it with bluetooth. Airplane mode and just enjoy the square "MIP" screen
I’ve got the one you said was your favorite with tough solar. It’s the G-5600 UE
Thank you so much!
If you want the classic dw5600 looks with most of the functions of the 5610, get the g5600e version .
'This watch thing is a disease, a problem.' as a fairly new watch collector that got bit a couple of years ago, this was beyond relatable.
I hear you. If only the GW 5000U had the face of the 5600c it'll be the perfect G Shock.
You might be able to put a positive display module on your blue/orange one!
A 5610 in the 5600 case style is the only G Shock I would ever need or want. Until then, I'll change the battery in my 5600 every 8-10 years....no biggie! 🙃
What you are looking for (minus multi band 6🤷🏻♂️) is the „ G-Shock G-5600UE-1JF“ 😉👍
It has the same/better functionality than the 5000 (minus band6), and the looks of the original Speed G-shock! 😮
Nice vid! Agree 100% with all the points you make about the squares.
you can try g-5600ue, basicly is classic 5600e looking with solar power (without multi band)
Except it is not made in japan😅
The casioaks are great watches.
You can get adapters so you can fit whatever you want..
Still prefer the DW-5600E.
Good video. I bought this watch last week and it’s beautiful.
You can probably switch modules with other colors you have, very easy with compatible series.
There's a G-Shock That has the 5000u Features in a 5600 body its Called GW-B5600BC-1BDR Released 2019 i think...
👍💯
Поддерживаю, а ещё, если умеешь работать паяльником, в w800h можно добавить дополнительные мультифункциональные будильники, и таймер с автоповтором !
You have the original DW-5000?.....thats worth $1000s
Still hoping for an auto perpetual timer on the basic solar models. GWX-5600 has a 2-stage 10-loop tomer and also tidal data, but it's not as good on the basics as the newer G-5610U
I would love to get myself a 5000. It is a bit pricey though…
I wish there were more alternatives with the upgraded module.
Why don't the two more expensive watches don't have the auto-repeat function for the countdown timer???
I've been so out of the loop with your content man. How did i miss this?
I have the G-Shock 5000U and along with my Tudor Black Bay 54, I have all I could ever need 😊
That’s a perfect 2 watch collection. Great choices.
That's actually the most intelligent two-watch combo I think I have EVER heard of.
@@ninjasrose1653 Wow, high praise! Thank you 🙌 Both remain in the collection and get regular wrist time 😁
@@rabtrekker It’s just such a pure common sense approach. And two absolute beast watches! Of you did ever add a third… What would it be?
@@ninjasrose1653 They are both beasts and yet suit my 6.5" wrist. Great question, if I were to add a 3rd, it would be independent. I like the look of 'Brew watches' Metric - black dial with a pop of colour and unique chronograph style. What's in your collection?
Great video! I have the 5600 and the 5600BB. Love the looks of the BB on wrist, but as you mentioned, reading the time is a pain.
that one looks like a smartwatch
“Watch collecting is a disease.” Glad I’m not alone.
The 5610 is one of the greatest watches ever made .....
The GW 5000 is a lot more money, around $300 just for steel inside and a better band. Best to get the GMW5610u
Yep a great watch indeed, I grabbed one on the advice of a friend & I'm glad I did, just the old-school model at around 40 bucks!
Have you looked into the G5600UE? It basically looks like a DW5600 but has all the functionality of the GWM5610U without MB6. It also shares the same case and bezel as the GWM5610U.
Good point, i didn’t know this watch existed. But where I am it’s costs the same as the 5610u, which I bought.
@@EdwardT9 same here but I got lucky on Amazon and got one for $85.
Best take on square/watches in general
Thank you so much. It's funny how tastes change because I went from hating it, to tolerating it, to absolutely loving it. Now I kind of want to get rid of everything except for a classic 5600e (not even the UE)
Wow... it's been 30 years since I heard a reference to Drakkar noir. Damn, where's my bottle? I know I didn't finish it.
Joe bob briggs!! New season is great so far!! I'm waiting on my 5000u right now
I just wish it had dual time, other than that i love mine.
Essentially it looks like a watch bought between 1984-1996 with Tough Solar and Atomic timekeeping and a date that can suit everyone..........and Made in Japan! haha.
Ok new here so forgive my ignorance, couldn’t you just throw the better 5000u module in the original better looking 5600 case?
I highly highly highly recommend a Casio PRW-35.
The 80’s comment omg i’m dying. You got a sub
Thank you so much for watching and for subscribing, it means a lot!
@@WatchcastageI also prefer the 5600 too looks wise, still does what I need, plus reminds me of the one I had back in the 80s
Mine is 20 years old, solar and radio controlled brilliant.
You killed 😂 me at “Drakkar Noir”😂
its still a popular scent ...............kinda like old spice
This is such an entertaining and nerdy review I had to subscribe. I have 4 squares and am really looking at the $40 classic one because it is a forty damn dollars G-Shock in all its glory. Watch collecting is a disease.
I got a 5600UE which is the ‘tough solar’ version
I wore a 5610U for yeara and while it is a good watch a GD350 is a better upgrade. Vibration alarm, auto-light, 100 city times, instant countdown button, super clear negative display. Skip the 5610 and get a 350.
I don’t understand why you’re saying that the 5610 is taller than the 5600. The 5600 model is clearly a thicker casing than the 5610, whereas the 5610 only wins in width.
Watch collecting is a problem for me as well lol. The gshock 5000u actually cured me. I’m so much more free and happy
Had it been the case of putting the watch under extreme conditions , it is understandable, but the refusal to replace the watch under normal conditions seemed callous and unprofessional on part of Casio. Utterly disappointed by such a big brand LIKE CASIO AND G-SHOCK with big & HOLLOW claims! 😒
Big advertising and low quality.
Нет у Касио такой модели - dw 5600 с солнечной батареей !
I love my yellow 💛 G shock DW-5600REC and slim F-105
man im trying to find that NASA edition you have there used on eBay but no luck. such a nice watch collection you have there with those square faces.
Can you talk about the bracelets you’re wearing? They look cool
To me the 5000U looks the best but i wish it had the 5600 price tag lol
Only problem is i always feel digital watches are so...unsophisticated? Idk like analog is honestly faste to read and with lume dont even have to hit light to see in the dark
Ok you got me with the Drakar Noir 🤣
Brilliant video, great watches 😁
You should be able to swap out the models to get the look you love with the movement you love. Try it.
@6:16 "square...is not for formal events...like weddings"
Ironically, I went to my brother's wedding, in a Tuxedo, wearing a "square"!
Same here. My GMW-B5000 is my dress watch….😀
My name is Eric, I am a G Shock addict. 3 G shoocks and counting
You mean if you want to attract a gold digger,: Gucci loving females will recognize the Rolex brand so it might yield some 'kitty-kat' lol
Period!
