During Marine week of USMC boot camp you're allowed to go the PX and get items like a watch. Which for 11 weeks you had no idea of what time it was unless you were on fire watch. The drill instructors recommend we get a watch and suggested a G-Shock. I kept that watch through 3 deployments to Afghan and it always worked perfectly. It was stolen out of my car 6 years later right off base. I miss that watch but it lasted FOREVER. But you can always buy a new one but still. Great job on the video Teddy and team!

I bought this watch in October of 2023 and have been wearing it every work day since. If you work blue collar, I recommend this watch all the way. I work for maintenance and construction for a water company so in the short months that I’ve had this watch, I’ve made sure to put it through hell. Water, concrete, sewer, swinging hammers constant vibration and impacts that come with working with your hands aren’t enough to kill this watch. Also, while some may find the buttons hard operate, the fact that they are recessed help with the accidental pushing of them while working in awkward angles.
Robust. No nonsense. I highly recommend

This is my only watch, and I absolutely love it. It's on my wrist all day, every day, and has never once let me down. It's been smashed into walls, dropped off a balcony, put through the washing machine, brought skiing, hit by paintballs, been left in a muddy puddle for a day, and been to the bottom of the harbour, and all I need to do in return is set it twice a year.
I'm planning on buying myself a decent dive watch for my 17th (to actually bring diving - unheard of, I know), but I'll never sell the G-Shock. I wouldn't trust anything else on my wrist on a hike or camp.

Remove a couple of screws and replace it for a few dollars. Same with the strap. You can go from a completely beat up old watch to a new one in la few m minutes. I think it can't be overstated that while the case shape does look strange and a little off putting in pictures or in the watch box, there are few things that beat it for feel and look when it's actually on wrist. Also a great feature I've heard no video mention, while i eagerly await my back ordered Christopher Ward Bel Canto, my g-shock and casio world timer both chime on the hour for me and will be doing so along with that Bel Canto when it arrives.

Wow that's wild. It is insanely easy to change the battery on the 4-screw G-Shocks without messing up the gasket. I like to give the gasket a light lube at the same time - water resistance has never been an issue, including using it while actually diving.

@@X85283 True, but this model has plastic strap flaps that get in the way otherwise.
The guy probably didn't remove them, nor knew that you can get enough bend out of them to drop the plate as normal.
But mistakes happen, the repair did not cost me anything at least.

I'm glad to see someone publishing a video on a true every day watch. A couple of years ago I needed a new 5600 watch and I got the 5610U. It is my outside work watch. I know that nothing I'm doing outside is going to hurt it. During a month of wear I will use most all of the features. If something were to happen to my watch I would replace it with another of the same model. I don't know that I have another watch in my collection that I can say that about.

At 5:25 you said the watch synchs with one of the five atomic timing stations around the world. Sorry Teddy but there are six (UK, Germany, US, China and 2 in Japan) which is why it’s called multiband 6. The clue’s in the name.

My previous watch was brilliant - it was accurate to 1 second in a hundred years, dustproof, shockproof - having a 10 ton weight dropped on it from 50 metres, waterproof to 1,000 metres, integral porridge alarm ensuring perfect porridge every morning for breakfast, solar powered even at night and a battery that could jump start a vehicle,USB connectivity, solid gold case and strap encrusted with diamonds rubies and sapphire, bluetooth range of 10 miles, built in 4 slice toaster and it was so valuable i was constantly escorted by bodyguards and slept with my arm in a specially constructed safe at night.Bloody watch caught fire !

I just bought a cheap watch to make sure it something that I like since I'm not used to wearing one. Hope to start a small collection as long as I can get used to wearing one. Thanks for all the great info and videos!

God tier. I've worn a tough solar gshock pretty much every day for 13 years. It has been beat, battered, dropped, and through the laundry at least 3 times. Looks alittle rough but works as intended. I own many watches from invicta pro divers to an omega seamaster but none have served me like my gshocks.

I have a G-Shock Gulfman 9100. Same battery since 2009. Been through Afghanistan. Been blown up. Countless hours of surfing and paddle boarding. Multiple dirtbike accidents. So many impacts. It’s been all over the world. How it’s alive I do not know. Replaced the strap a couple times. Terribly uncomfortable, but still the best watch ever.

I have the base DW5600, it is just a solid all round watch. I use it as my watch for any physical work that involves potential damage. Funny I bring it in and run some water over it and it looks like new again. It kind of is both a tool but also lives in my watch box as just a nice watch. I am a big G-Shock fan and my favourites are my GG1000-1a5 Mudmaster and GA-700-2A. They are big watches which I like but worth noting that they are thick enough to make putting work gloves on and off at least noticeable. The 5600 you don’t even notice working in and keeps a lower profile when working around things that might catch on a watch which can be a plus.

I own this piece since many years and also added the black display version to my collection recently. It's one of the greatest G-Shocks ever IMHO. The modest size and features (no needless functions, but Solar and Multiband 6) for THIS price (well under 100€ in Europe) make this piece truly outstanding!

Awesome watch & module. I have the GW5000U which is basically the more premium version of this watch at $250-$300 but has the exact same module. It comes with better resin & full DLC coated stainless steel core & screw down caseback, but the 5610 is definitely a better bang for your buck. I love my GW5000U though & think the price is justified

While doing clearing out some old bits I rediscovered a collection of G-Shocks I had bought in America and also was gifted as I was touring with a music artist. One of them was the GW-5625E, one of the 25th anniversary editions. The screen was of, but after some time charging up the solar battery it’s been alive and kicking, syncing every night and made me sell my Apple Watch and some of the other G Shocks. It originally had the see through jelly strap, which I changed to an all black, so now it’s a black and gold look and just gets on with life. I may still pickup a 5610 with steel core, but this one is doing me well as I’ve worn it everyday since the summer of 2023. All these years later, a bit of sun and it’s working like normal. Love it

I would say the DW-5600 would be a better choice since it is relatively cheaper and you don’t need to get a solar charger if your battery drains. Also the Multiband while sounds good on paper its reception highly depends upon your geographic location and weather conditions. I would say unless you work in an environment where Bluetooth is not allowed get a Bluetooth G-Shock instead. I don’t think swapping battery would be an issue for water resistance if you place the water seal back correctly. You don’t need a professional maintaining a G-Shock.

Brilliant as always......... I.ve had many Gs, mostly Casioaks, but also a number of squares.
I've now got just 2, the "5000U" solely made in Japan, for the Japanese market. The strap is superior and the case back is screwdown.
It's far more expensive, but in my view the ultimate Gshock square.
My last G is another square.... inverted screen , with bluetooth.....

I owe a lot of wonderful watches, but I’ve never lost my love for this precise G-Shock. It is among my most worn pieces and I just adore the practical functionality it offers. This watch caused me to buy an MRG square, a TVA as well as a Stainless Square - but this humble but really tough and charismatic 5610 remains my favorite Gshock and it’s among my top 3 favorite watches - mechanical pieces and all. Have this exact watch and like it a lot more than I expected. Great watch to wear for "utility" type activities. And it is small/thin so fits under a sleeve/jacket pretty easily too.
My other G is a GW-7900. Even though it wears a little larger, it's not too bad. I like it a little better because it can display 2 timezones simultaneously, plus shows moon, tide, and mini-timer simultaneously.

My DW5600 gets abused and keeps ticking. Growing up on a farm I need a watch that can get smacked, survive harsh winters and intense summer heat, and is thin to fit under the cuff of gloves or a coat. I'll never NOT have a G-Shock in my collection, they just work and I never have to worry about it.
