This guy should do more reviews.. he's a great reviewer. The base Genesis is quite compelling.. However the 82-grand flagship needs the V8 to better justify its price.
+Dolly Goodhead Well said. I'm getting rid of my BMW which is an awesome car, but since I'm in the market for something bigger, I'm moving to the Genesis. I can think of a lot of things to do with the difference in savings buying a new 7 series.
+Drew Scott You'll be back. LOL - Already heard many BMW owners who thoughts they'd get better with a cheaper priced car. They're back to BMW and so will you. Cheers!
I purchased 2 used mercedes. I purchased a "04" C-240 in 2007 for $32k and "03" S-500 in 2008 for $48k. I could afford the monthly payments and insurances, but the maintenance well that was a different story. For instance when one of the air suspension failed $1200 to $1500 to repair (fixed them 4 times). One Bushings to fix $600 to $900 (repaired them 6 times). Oil change 300 to 400. The maintenance was costly to me. The cars after 80miles lived in the repair shop. Spent well over $15,00 on repairs on both within 6-7yrs. Hey I am not saying the cars were not great but there is more to owning than just driving them. I got tired of the maintenance and traded them in for an Acura and Infiniti at the advice of a sales person. Ive owned them for now 4 to 5 yrs and both have over 100,000mi. Yes my business involves driving. Since my purchase the most Ive spent on the 2 for repairs total so far $1000 ( a starter and 2 alternators) . Recently i purchased a 2016 genesis 3.8 Ultimate. Noticed a lot of comparisons to Lexus, Audi, BMW, and M.B of the G-80.why? Remember Lexus? Just saying. The car is great. They may be a step now behind the Germans but not for long. Look at the style and features you're getting for 10k to 30k less than the others. A base price MB is 55k to 60k. I would rather keep the money and not worry about the badge. Just saying.
Thats because the models that you mentioned isnt made for broke people like you. Theres no way in hell a highly respected person would buy a freaking Hyundai. That name alone is a major turn-off, same goes with the KIA K900.
***** i agree. i used to be a badge snob but i would certainly give this car a shot. looks fantastic and there wouldn't be a car to match it for the money. especially 62k. i have had BMWs and the like but i find that makes like kia and hyundai are making excellent vehicles like the Procee'd GT and the Genesis! you would be a fool not to consider these cars if you were looking into buying new.
Alexander Leslie Abercrombie Howroyd I wouldn't mind owning this car either. I only have German cars because i'm an enthusiast lol. But you do have to pay quite a bit to get some useful options.
Good review. Interesting to see that the Genesis for the Aussie market is offered with options not available in North America. The "surround view" cameras, for instance. This is an option Hyundai currently only offers on the Equus, over here. Also the large array of rear-seat controls. I believe we only see this on the Equus in NA, as well.
+Sam Sabastian Countries put different taxes on luxury goods like cars. The same exact car could be almost double the price depending on where you buy it. The USA is very lax on luxury taxes. That's why the USA is awesome for upper middle class or upper class people. They get to buy more luxurious things that Europeans, Asians, and others couldn't even dream of buying. You'll never see an upper middle class person driving a brand new E class Benz in a country like India or Australia where the luxury taxes are incredibly high!
+Sam Sabastian A funny example of what taxes could do to a car's price is Singapore's car market. Nowhere else in the world will a car like a Mazda3 sell for like $70k USD. A BMW 3 series in Singapore is reserved for multimillionaires, coming in at like $250k!! Google it! It's a fact
Really good review, even if its a little fast.. This car is very interesting in this price range, but i wonder how it will stack up against competitors like the new beautiful Volvo S90/V90. Coming here from Sweden i have to mention it.. ;)
talking about quality of the interior, 1:55 for example, the ornament of the button also moves when you press the button, nut much, but it does. Most of the owners would not notice that but nonetheless, it is not supposed to happen in a "luxury" car.
You will find nearly every recent car with DRL in the main headlight do this now (Jeep, Chrysler and all the Germans). As for why its probably to make the indicator stand out more!
Well said, l own a 2019 ultimate and it's near perfect. Apple carplay/ android auto would have been nice though. Japan has closed the gap to the European brands, Korea is not far behind.
I went to my local dealer Sutton's Arncliffe Hyundai, to look at one and I was shocked!, at how poor this car is put together, I was so shocked that I actually ask the sales man if this car has been repaired after an accident, he replied no it's brand you, so when I questioned the gaps and clearances from the front door to front guard to hood was all over the place. If anyone is looking to buy one check the gaps on all the panels and look at few others to compare In my opinion this car won't do well not in the way the company Wants, unless the buyer is blind.
Hyundai have always delivered a high standard of finish, quality inclusions at a low price point. But this is just way too much car IMHO so my question/comment on the Genesis is --well done on a fine product but where is the Sonata that the rest of the world is currently enjoying ? A camry-killer in terms of performance and standard equipment and classic good looks. But nowhere to be seen in Australia nor, if my local Hyundai dealer is to be believed, any time in the foreseeable future.
craig fleming I think you just hate hyundai in general as gordon ramsay would say it PHUCKOFF. also the mercedes and bmw 6 cylinders have similar ratings. honestly the only german brand that is worth the price is audi bc it boasts superb reliability and pwrformance while a merc or bmw breaks down after a couple years and is for badge only.
Jongwon Park no i don't hate hyundai. they make good cars. in my experience the back seat is smaller tgan a holden commodore. fuel economy is poor, from the maximum torque of the engine not until 5000rpm. which is the complete opposite to a turbo diesel,.
With Holden and Ford OUT,,,,this car will smash the market....I will kept my VY for fun...will buy this as at the minute for the money..you can't touch it....FXCK THE RUROS...I'M A OLD BLOKE.....
This car is a resale BOMB! It drops 40% after you drive off the lot. I know, I own a loaded 2016... it runs well ,looks good but you'll be burning a whole in your pocket for a few years to recover the loss . Research , and look elsewhere
Im not saying there are probably hundreds with vents like the ones in the Leon, Im saying there are likely hundreds of cars that share vent designs with another model
Usually a parts bin within the same manufacturer which doesn't count since it's not plagiarism or Chinese copy cars which copy parts from western manufacturers, looks like Korean design culture is similar to Chinese.
If you look at the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze, 2016 Ford Focus, 2015 Acura MDX & 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe, all of them have an almost identical vent & head unit design. Its quite amazing the lack of effort put into cars designs.
Well, car reviews from around the world say otherwise. I've never heard or read a review that says Korean cars even come close. And Japanese cars are far better than Korean cars too. No offense, Korea, you still have a long way to go.
Overpriced elantra. Don't know how hyndai can compare their crap cars to European rivals. This car is more of a competitor to a Holden caprice more than anything else...
William Smith Lol Holden wishes bud. When you people understand the difference between a performance coupe and a god damn truck give the rest of the world a call.
***** Shame you all don't get the Big 5.0 V8 model, has better interior and amenities. 3.8 is nice but it can't hold a candle to the 5.0 Big. i test drove a 5.0 and that powertrain was so smooth and has so much torque i could have sworn i was in a S class. 429hp 419 ftq, that's German numbers right there.
This guy should do more reviews.. he's a great reviewer. The base Genesis is quite compelling.. However the 82-grand flagship needs the V8 to better justify its price.
Yo, this is an exact budget luxury car. Nice design!
This car is priced like cars should be priced. There comes a point where the more you spend becomes just stupid.
+Dolly Goodhead Well said. I'm getting rid of my BMW which is an awesome car, but since I'm in the market for something bigger, I'm moving to the Genesis. I can think of a lot of things to do with the difference in savings buying a new 7 series.

GMAN587 I don't know. I'm pretty stubborn. LOL!
+Drew Scott fair enough. just don't forget to post your experience over time.
GMAN587 I absolutely will. Stay tuned!
Not surprised given that a former Audi designer Peter Shreyer is the head designer of the major Korean car brands.
In any cars the most important factors to consider is good maintenance on your vehicle! Not the freakin name!!
this is a great car and services are great too
Loving the new led head and tail lights on new cars now a days :)

I would take this over an E-Class, 5-Series, and an Audi A6. You get more, for a cheaper price.
Rajeev Sahu Lexus? LOL

Beautiful vehicle.
Some people say this is the "spiritual successor" to the old LS400, but I'd say this is actually the successor to the long-gone Hyundai Dynasty
watch out for Korea its just a matter of time.Dnt forget samsung wasn't known until recent years.
+tawanda mahuna You´v got a point there..
Sure it is tredfxman
I had a sweet Samsung pc in the 80s
they really need to make a dealer network if they want it to work out .
The awesome thing about these nowadays is that they fetch $25-$30k secondhand, and only demand South Korean ownership prices.
Could you explain what you mean ?
quite reserved with the styling
I had a regular uber guy pick me up in one of these. Thought the interior was beautifully crafted. the sunroof is huuuge.
I test drove one with v6 I liked it a lot mucho car for the money and the warranty is awsome
Really wish the NA model had the rear seat controls
Its quite sad how different countries get entirely different equipment...
Hmmmmm. I wonder why the top of the range Genesis is $62,000 in north America, including Canada, and $82,000 in Australia.?
Because American, Canadian and Australian dollars are all different currencies.
+Sam Sabastian taxes

taxes and inflation
Dat fuel economy though....they should've introduced a diesel engine
Really good review, even if its a little fast.. This car is very interesting in this price range, but i wonder how it will stack up against competitors like the new beautiful Volvo S90/V90. Coming here from Sweden i have to mention it.. ;)
Was looking at one until I found the V8 is only for left hand drive market.
YAY! Canberra!
talking about quality of the interior, 1:55 for example, the ornament of the button also moves when you press the button, nut much, but it does. Most of the owners would not notice that but nonetheless, it is not supposed to happen in a "luxury" car.
why would anyone care about that? he probably pressed the button like an elephant, thats why. this would also happen on a mercedes.
It looks like they put one of the ac vents upside down lol and why do the drls turn off when you indicate?
You will find nearly every recent car with DRL in the main headlight do this now (Jeep, Chrysler and all the Germans).
As for why its probably to make the indicator stand out more!
Richyo Its because of the led's
What are you guys Smok'in! A BMW 7 Series size form and fit at the cost of a 3 Series...? Whoa! I can't. BYE FELICIA!
Are you okay? There's nothing wrong with what he said. The Genesis is as big as the 7-Series but priced like a 3.
Chris Sorreda I am wonderful, thanks for your concern and asking.
All the ones i've seen on the road didn't have the Hyundai badge at the rear, they had the Genesis badge. They look great.
Tempted to look into this car although I'm concerned of the residual value. It will probably end up being a the trusty German motor once again.
I would buy one instead of the euro trash available.
Well said, l own a 2019 ultimate and it's near perfect. Apple carplay/ android auto would have been nice though. Japan has closed the gap to the European brands, Korea is not far behind.
Did he just say 11.2L per 100 kilometres PER HOUR?
+Shayan Khan yes lol
this looks more like slavia and virtus, design is nice since i am not an e class follower or fan so saying
Looks like a Mercedes s class from the front
how????
I went to my local dealer Sutton's Arncliffe Hyundai,

best car😁
looks like the 2016 audi a5 meshed with a mercedes.
it isnt big enough in back seat. anyone over 5ft 8 will think its too small. it is built well . you cant have a l
No i didnt sit in a caprice you wont say the same
how does this guy think it has a lot of room? nowhere near size of caprice or 7 series/ s class
craig fleming maybe because those cars are a different class? this is marketed as a midsizr not an exec full

Genesis is a challenger
I couldn't get this over a Chrysler 330 srt8...
lol they copied the air vents from the seat leon.
Its air vents, Im sure there are hundreds of cars with similarly designed air vents.
Go find me one, good luck.
Im not saying there are probably hundreds with vents like the ones in the Leon, Im saying there are likely hundreds of cars that share vent designs with another model

samsung smart phones*
Why get this when you could get a 3 year old euro for less and still way better. Not to mention half the fuel consumption to this fat thirsty thing.
Well, car reviews from around the world say otherwise. I've never heard or read a review that says Korean cars even come close. And Japanese cars are far better than Korean cars too. No offense, Korea, you still have a long way to go.
***** The only Merc cars worth "respecting" on the road are the ones that are either decades old or if it's a supercar
Liar about what ? That's it's built shit or that I went to Suttons Arncliffe just because you think it's good doesn't make me a liar
What is with the stupid Hyundai badge
