There's always something to complain about, whether you live with the vehicle long term or not. OK, the knobs are the same size and in the same area, but living with the car, you'll learn where everything is. You still get a lot for your money with the base model starting at $38,000.
These clowns wouldn't buy a GENESIS because they are in the same show floor as an ELANTRA or VELOSTER? ........ really? oh god forbid someone sees me buying a car at Hyundai, my social life will be ruined...... snobbery at its best
I love this comment! You made my day! But some of those grumpy socially unstable people may be embarrassed buying this. I would just think of it the way they put it in the Kia K900 commercial "take the blue key and go back to the luxury you know, take the red key and never look at luxury the same again." Lol!
Well I live in Vancouver and people drive BMWs, Porsches, Mercs, and Audis in the area of where I go to work in downtown. I drive an Audi just to fit in.
I'm not sure but I think that BMW is no longer a car that constantly requires repairs. I know it used to be. I have a Lexus and it's no brainer that i've never been to the shop or dealership except to get the scheduled maintenance done.
Audis are great cars. I have owned two now and my second is almost at 100k. Maintenance/repair costs are almost non existent, I just have oil changed every 5k and have everything checked out, costs around $100 every time, that is it. Audi is also in the top 5 for reliability in consumer reports. Just saying, check your facts before you make accusations.
rktrumble I have owned Volvos with more than 300K miles on the original engine and transmission. I owned an Audi 5000, it was junk and turned me off Audi. I'll stick with Volvo or Mercedes for long term ownership if I want something European.
Gordon Mccracken Man, that Audi was made until 1988, for US only and was one of the buggiest cars. And again, it was 30 years ago, how did US cars look at that time? Like crap.
The 2015 Genesis is very dominant looking, very sexy like a Mercedes or Aston Martin. And they're selling very well here in LA, I see them on the roads on a daily basis here, almost getting as common as BMWs and Mercedes, no joke. It's more dominant looking than a Lexus for sure. Lexuses look like what sissies would drive.
UltimateDriver Hyundai itself should be a status symbol. They are more expensive than Toyotas and are regarded as a high quality brand. As a person who's only been driving German luxury cars over the past 15 years, I would really consider buying the 2015 Hyundai Genesis.
Stefan Schmidt Hyundai is very high quality and very reliable. I would buy Hyundai over Toyota or Nissan any day. Made in Korea is very high quality. They use POSCO steel and magnesium, the same grade steel used in Porsches.
Hyundai makes the most reliable cars in the world according to the 2014 JD Power Study. Hyundai isn't just about cars, they are also the largest shipbuilder in the world, manufacturers jet engines and jet engines parts to US aerospace companies including Lockheed Martin and Boeing.
Hyundai cars are selling very well in Europe. Most Europeans would buy a Hyundai/Korean car over a Japanese car. But BMW, Volkswagen and Mercedes still top the charts here. Hyundai has more advanced tech compared to Japanese cars.
zawchig888 Same here. The 2015 V6 Hyundai Genesis is an excellent deal. Also, practically everyone here who drives a luxury vehicle owns a BMW or Mercedes. I want something different. Also Hyundai cars have more advanced tech for the same price.
Yes check the 2014 JD Power Study and it will say that Hyundai cars are the most reliable cars in the world. Hyundai cars have always been reliable. And now they beat their rivals in tech as well.
I used to laugh at Hyundai cars just like everyone else. As a self professed car geek, I wouldn't be caught dead in a Hyundai...Or so I thought. If you go into my garage, you will see a beautiful, white on black 2015 Genesis 3.8. Who knew? One test drive is all it took...well maybe two, but all I can say is that pound for pound, dollar for dollar, this car cant be beat! Nevermind the 50 grand these TFL cats are talking about, I paid 38 and a half for mine with all the goodies you need. I can't believe how stupid I was to even consider buying a Lexus GS over this baby...great effing car!
The 2015 Hyundai Genesis looks very nice and classy. Hyundai is now the world's 4th largest auto company, and most people now consider it to be a high quality brand with affordable pricing. Similar to Mazda and Nissan. But better than Toyota. I'm actually going to buy the 2015 Hyundai Genesis in August. It was sold out across 5 dealerships in NYC I've been to over the past 3 months. And I'm apparently on a waiting list of 20,000+ people across the US.
Looks like they copied a bunch of designs and mashed them all together, tailgate looks like an audi's, front end looks similar to a merc, headlamps look like a Subaru Legacy's, Exhaust and Body style similar to a Lexus and Interior looks like a BMW's
Fifthcell I'd say that's exactly what they did. Lol. I do think it's a nice car but if I were going to drop 50k or more on a car I don't think it would be a cheap imitation. I know that'll upset some people, I'm not saying it's a bad car, it does look very nice and from what I gather has been a very reliable car but it doesn't yet have the same prestige as the German cars or even the Japanese luxury brands. I'm sure it will get there in the next decade, Toyota had the same growing pains with Lexus back in the beginning.
I drove this car and this car is awesome. And I'm used to drive cars like Audi A8, BMW 7 series, and etc.I was bias against Korean cars before, before, but after spending time with the new Genesis, Equus and Kia Cadenza, I realized that Hyundai and Kia are making really good cars. People need to get smarter about brands vs content, this car offers features that you would have to pay extra on an Audi or Mercedes. However, you get the best value when you buy the V8 version.
I'd buy this, no question. The 'no brainer' aspect is the powertrain warranty. It more than doubles Audi, BMW or Mercedes. And you'll pay a pretty penny to have them repaired.
Is this even a review or a "I hate genesis" video? Like complaining that the car shifted you at 6000 when red line is 6500? Why would you even want to get to red line?
It REALLY seemed like you were nitpicking. As for the heater/volume knob, i'm fairly sure it is not that bad, it is not like owners forget where their radio is located each time they drive (muscle memory). Also, you used words such as "you want lexus" "it's still a hyundai" from which one can extrapolate that you (the reviewers) have a brand issue. It SHOULD be your goal as reviewers to judge the cars driving, features and ride. However, it seems a lot of that was missing and 50% of this video focused on "it's a hyundai". You address this relatively idiotic issue of brand snobbery too much. If the car is great, then praise it...that will change peoples minds more than your repetitive reminders of the brand would.
At the end of the day, I want to know that this car is going to hold it's resale value. I'd have to agree with the idea of leasing it instead of buying it. Hyundai just isn't a proven luxury brand, yet it seems to have a lot of value for the money. If you lease it and it doesn't hold it's value on the market, then you can dump it for something else. If they do well, and you have liked the car, then you have your own personal experience to make the decision to buy in the future.
I know it may sound stupid saying this about a Hyundai, but this is my dream car and I'll tell you why. As a middle class working American, I don't have the extra expense to maintain a luxury vehicle. But this vehicle, and I've looked up the cost, I can easily maintain without spending thousands. Not to mention it is damn sexy and has everything I could want in a car. Can't wait. About another year and I'll be able to buy it cash.
Man, 5 years ago I would've never even glanced at Hyundai, but the looks alone on this thing have pulled me in, as well as the reliability of the brand, the warranty, the awd option...the looks again.
I would buy this in a heartbeat. I buy a car for me, and not a status symbol. I don't care the badge, I want the most luxury for the dollar and this is it. In fact, I LIKE that it's not one of the big names Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, etc because I like the statement that "I'm in it for luxury and not for status" and therefore don't want to spend a premium just for the marque.
I've been watching your guys videos for about a year now, and I have to say that I lost quite a bit of respect for you two as reviewers after watching this video. Yes we understand that Hyundai is not a lux brand. However instead of reviewing the car subjectively (albeit quirkily) like you usually do, you constantly point out "this is nice, thats great, but the badge...." I do agree with you about the paddle shifters though. Otherwise, I think you guys let the fact that the car is a hyundai get ahead of what a great car it is for not a whole lot of money (compared to what you would have to spend elsewhere to get the same stuff). Also, I love the sound of the v6, especially in the coupe, but if you want a great sounding engine, get the rspec and leave 120 feet of black marks behind you while you listen to the engine note, the engines are some of the best parts about the genesis
I bought a first generation Genesis last September and, far from being "frumpy" (as these guys described it), I think it's a beautiful streamlined car. I have parked it next to an E-class Mercedes and I think the Genesis is more impressive. Ditto for the 5-Series BMW, which has considerably less room inside than the Hyundai. My 4.6 liter V8 moves the car like a rocket and the sound system with its 17 speakers is second to none and shared only with the Rolls-Royce Phantom. Add to this the reliability factor---German cars are notoriously high maintenance---and I feel quite happy with my purchase.
We just bought a new loaded '14 Tuscon and while we were in the floor, I hopped in the showroom model, omg amazing. So soft and sexy inside. I loved every inch of it. Who cares if its a Hyundai, this isn't the Hyundai of the 90s. Id drive one in a heart beat if I were in that type of market! This car is so sexy in person and so comfy inside:)
Yes its a nice place inside. But its a luxury car without a luxurious badge. When people buys luxury cars, more then often the brand itself is part of the luxury....
dryolddesert I agree. Brand awareness is everything. And hyundaii is not known for luxury. They should start by taking out that badge that in my opinion is horrible.
Cristiano120100 notice on the front of the car, there is no Hyundai symbol on the cars at all. I think Hyundai knows this as just does the flying G deal on it.
That would bring a few more buyers but the cost to create a new brand image would increase the cost of the car and it wouldn't be a value proposition anymore.
hyndai is making a noble effort to break badge-whoring in america but that's an impossible barrier to breach. just make a combined kia/hyundai luxury brand. give it a fancy name and a badge and just use that
Hyundai was thinking about making "Genesis" as a brand.. thats why Genesis coupe and Genesis sedan looks totally different, but they felt like the timing wasnt right or something
As a Loyal Ford Fan, a designer, and a recent disliker of Hyundai, I would buy it. I love that Hyundai has quality, value and great style. I think I might be turning into a Hyundai fan if Lincoln do not get their act together. I love design and Hyundai has it on point.
Definitely. Did you see the Genesis small overlap crash test? The driver-side door didn't even get a single dent. Driver could easily open the door and just walk away.
I sat in the kia k900 that is a beautiful car inside and out so hyundai and kia know what they're doing and i really don't want a bmw or mercedes i feel like you have something to prove if you buy one just to say you have an expensive car haha people grow up when will you realize that we live in an age of bargain bang for your buck and based off of the recalls from gm the cts is out of my choices
I brought a used 2015 Hyundai Genesis AWD 3.8 a month ago with the same color interior, Manhattan Brown exterior or Pontiac Brown from the 70's. Everywhere I go people give me compliments on the car....they love the color combination choose and that's was one of the main I wanted the car.
“It’s still a Hyundai.” Kinda like Lexus is still a Toyota? Or, Bentley is still a Volkswagon? (Or is it Rolls Royce?). Anyhow, i bought two. A G80 and a Coupe. So if I must go fast and do that engine rev stuff, I drive the Coupe. If I go to a nice dinner I drive my luxury car - a Genesis. No valet guy ever says it is a Hyundai! The company is spinning the brand off now anyhow. So, you guys have rectal cranial inversion! Genesis vehicles are absolutely great.
Wow this guy says he wouldn't buy a genesis because it is a hyundai, but if you watch his reviews on VWs, he keeps recommending it just because it's "german engineering."
we've had one hyundai for 9 years and had no problems with it, just oil change. Than we had audi a6 and ofcourse always some small problems, small things that went over time (that small things were expensive) and after that we bought hyundai santa fe, we have it for 5 years now and no problems again, just regular oil and automatic gearbox oil change.. i bet these new hyundais are ever better
Can we end this "$50k Hyundai" nonsense please? Hyundais are no longer the cheap, ugly, and poorly-built cars that they were in the 00s. Hyundai is producing fantastic cars that have plenty of amenities that aren't standard on many cars in their segment (Hyundai Sonata) and their interiors are fantastic. The fact that it's a Hyundai should be irrelevant now. Yeah, it's a $50k Hyundai. But they're competing with Mercedes, BMW, and Audi with it and, honestly, I think it's very close. Saying "I own a new Hyundai" shouldn't make one scoff anymore, it should make them envious. /Rant
Bought mine for $32K in 2016 used with 5K miles, Signature package brand new Michelins and was the best purchase made. I have a Mercedes and have had BMW's if you don't like paying outrageous maintenance bills or premium gas this is a no brainer. Handles better than my MB and has power to boot. Had over 2 years now and no issues.
What's with the orange daytime running lights??? The exterior doesn't look bad but it's still a Hyundai. If it was $20k I might look at it but not at $50k.
The turn-signal indicators act in place of the DRLs, southbeach09. I wish Hyundai would've just used the LED accents as DRLs - they'd look nicer. Either way though, it's a nice lux car.
We have a 09 Genesis 4.6 and will br probably moving on to this shortly! One of the best/ reliable we have ever owned. Almost 90k miles and the only thing out of maint that went wrong was a reflashed media system and fog light went out. This one looks awesome..cant wait!
I would buy one. I have an '11 Elantra (for commuting, I also have an F150) and my wife has a '13 Sonata Hybrid. (She came from a Lexus GS350) They have been fantastic cars and a great value. And my particular dealer has had exceptional customer service. You wouldn't catch me dead in a Hyundai 10 years ago. They were horrible. They have truly stepped up their game.
Saw this car outside of Wal-Mart the other day and thought this car had to be worth like 70-80k. Then saw the back of it the Hyundai logo really surprised me. Nice car
People complain that the Genesis is sold beside less expensive cars like the Elantra but the same can be said for a CTS Cadillac being sold with less expensive Chevrolets. I think this is a smart move for Hyundai. As your income increases so does your car company.
A fully loaded Buick LaCrosse or Lincoln MKZ will cost about the same as the Hyundai Genesis. If you want to pay for a badge with the same equipment, be prepared to pay up to 70k. - Lexus GS 350 / Volvo S80 ($55k) - Jaguar XF / Acura RLX ($60k) - Mercedes E350 / Cadillac CTS / Cadillac XTS ($65k) - BMW 535i / Audi A6 ($70k)
Good review guys - in Canada; both the V6 and the V8 are only available in AWD but there are a few driving modes ie: sport mode which throws most of the power to the Rear Wheels for those who want that sporty feel while driving. If the only beef is - it's sold next to the 'other' Hyundai products, that's kind of lame. I recall when a Lexus was sold in the same dealership here in Edmonton along side the rest of the Toyota products. So that really shouldn't be holding folks back. This sedan is more than luxurious, powerful, has many autonomous safety functions and an absolute pleasure to drive. Bang for your buck is and should be a positive not a negative. Hyundai is a fantastic line of vehicles and has come a long way since its introduction to North America, just like Toyota/Lexus.
Looks kind like an A7 ripoff. That being said, I definitely see the appeal of one of these. I would recommend it to the average driver. I personally would rather go German because I'm not sure if the genesis it's as overengineered as an Audi, bmw or merc. Most German cars feel like tanks on the road and bumps, patches of water, etc don't throw them off course and with the way I drive on NYC roads that's critical.
I doubt that the German cars of today are as over-engineered as they used to be in the 80s and 90s. Mercs especially. That's not to say they aren't built to a high standard, but times change; the bottom line is what most companies are ever-watchful of these days especially given the value-proposition from Asian car manufacturers, which is getting harder and harder to beat. This is especially so now that the Koreans are on the stage and catching-up fast. I'd buy this in a heartbeat if it was available where I live.
Harman Motor Works True, but for example, Merc S class is still over-engineered as it is a higher category than C or E class. And you would hardly call the new C class under-engineered :) And just another tidbit, people that crashed heavily in a Merc will buy another one without thinking. An acquaintance of mine had the whole family on a trip, ended down in a ditch, rolled over several times and came out unharmed. The other day he bough a new one quite happily :)
***** I could see how experience plays a big part in car choice, especially in cases such as a severe crash. We've all seen the videos of the strength of these vehicles especially around the pillar regions. My in-laws drive two German autos, one of which is an S class from the 90s. Heavy, sure-footed autos no doubt, but it comes at a price, unless you're willing to stoop to the second-hand market, in which case you're generally still paying-up big to keep them running. Given a limited budget, would I choose this Hyundai over a second-hand Merc of comparable price range? Definitely yes. Perhaps I'm a little biased also, because a fair share of my cars over the years have been Hyundais (with never any glaring issues to note with any of them) - again, the experience thing coming into play. But given the value-for-money offering, it's difficult to look past them - and when I hear that in some cases Hyundai out-classes other makes in reliability and feature-sets, that doesn't help either lol. That said, if I won the lottery tomorrow, I couldn't guarantee that my garage wouldn't have a Merc in it =) - but at the same time, it very likely would contain a Hyundai also.
True, but some downfalls of German cars are reliability... It's true! I know people will argue with me on this but it isn't like you are going to get 1 million miles out of an Audi with less repair bills than a Lexus. That being said, where is the Hyundai going to stand... Especially how Hyundai's standards have changed in the last 20 years. I'm going to stand by reliable because it is a country in Asia and they have been in a "pursuit to perfection" scenario. Proud of Hyundai, and Kia!
ToyotaCelicaDude1 Completely agree. I can never understand why people constantly praise German cars for reliability. Here in New Zealand, Japanese cars have a much better resale than euro's as they just run forever... While the euro cars are in the workshop getting all manner of major work done.
Recently moved from an infiniti G35 to a toyota prius. I had my 1st maintenance service. Yes my g35 oil change was $60 but service was FAR better. If I'm going to pay $40, I'm willing to fork out another $20 for the better ambiance, friendliness, an minor perks. Would I pay $50k for a Hyundai vs a 3series GT? Give me the 3GT. It will have leather, navi, roomy rear seats, bi-xenon, etc. Plus I get the prestige and resell value (if I resell). Just spec'd them out Gen 5.0: $55.7k 335 GT: $58k For $2.3k it's worth getting the BMW in my book. "You're comparing an 8 vs a 6cyl!" Yeah but the 6 will out perform the 8, so still apples to apples. Didn't see it on the Hyundai website but BMW comes with 4Yrs of maintenance. So, no I wouldn't not buy the genesis.
Is it just me or does toyota like to take "ideas" off other cars. The front back of the corolla looks like the elantra gt. Is it me or does.mazda like to take "ideas" off other cars? The back of the mazda 6 looks like the hyundai sonata. Do you want me to name more?
Hyundai has come along way, I have a 2014 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0 Turbo, we love it.. it's quick and clean. all around Hyundai in my opinion is impressing everyone, coming from a economy stance auto maker to, well a higher end company, I'm surprised to say the least you'd say people don't like it cause of the name. Every where we have gone with our 2.0T we've had people admire the car, it's just that stylish.
hahaha you didnt even sit in it and talk shit,my friend hawe bmw 5 series he tested the genesis and said that genesis drives better than his 5 series, and he bougt the genesis and happy with it,quality, comfort and etc,the loser here is you because you cant buy this car
DRAGONIKification You are right I cannot buy this car, not because of money (I have the money) but because it's cheap Korean shit and the material and quality is horrendous. I only get the finer and high quality things in life and this car and brand does not represent any respectable or decent qualities. The real losers here are you, Hyundai, and the Hyundai Genesis.
listen Mat my friends and also people who tested it didnt sai about cheap materials and etc they liked the car,you are typical hater who didnt even sat in a car and already talk shit, why you hate korean cars, why?we dont live in 90s,its a new world that changing everyday, before saing something test it, then talk,i love all car brands
***** Your responses and your bad grammar are direct reflections of a toddler. Shouldn't you have parental guidance and supervision before hitting up RUclips?
MatTZI014 I wouldn't go as far as to cal this cheap. Hyundai has really stepped their game up in the last 5 or so years, go check them out... what do you have to lose? If you were right you lost a half hour of flaming hyundai videos on youtube, tops. If I'm right maybe you'll save 20k next lux car you buy.
LOL. The people pointing the finger at those buying BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and Lexus because of "insecurity" or "snobbery" are the only ones who are truly insecure. When you judge others, you reveal yourselves. Regarding this car, it's a really nice car. I wouldn't buy it because the interior, as nice as the materials are, is boring, uninspired and very generic. The styling is too derivative of the Audi, 5 Series, and Altima. That's the difference between the true luxury brands, and Hyundai. Hyundai copies and tend to be unoriginal.
Cash Vargas Yes, not only that, but until Hyundai/Kia brings something to the industry that is truly groundbreaking, they will never have the same respect as the Big 3 (also Audi) and even Acura. Audi was the first mass producer with galvanized bodies, performance quattro, and really started the trend with innovative styling with the first 5000. BMW essentially created the sports sedan segment and, until recently, has continually led that market. Mercedes was the first with traction control, anti-lock brakes, airbags, seat-belt pre-tensioners, in addition to many other "firsts" for the industry. Acura "civilized" the exotic car with the NSX, and essentially pioneered the "affordable" luxury car. And Lexus brought bulletproof reliability (though my own experience woudl tell you otherwise) and they forged the modern-day luxury SUV segment.
sic22l Interesting. Not sure about that. The Peugot is simple, but has character at the same time. The Genesis is just plain bland and generic. Truthfully, it looks like the interior layout for a luxury car from 20 years ago.
The thing with them selling the Genesis next to all the other Hyundai's (which are cars that are not just sold for value, but very good quality and very nice designs) is that if they made a new luxury devision of Hyundai for the Genesis and Equus and had an all new network of dealerships, the price would go up up up, all that costs a lot more for Hyundai than just selling out of the already existing dealerships. Besides the closest Cadillac dealership to me is the same dealership that will sell you a Chevy Spark.
my 2003 Sonota v6 2.7 almost has 200,000 miles and it's be off roaded, hotboxed, pulled over for speeding 10 times, carrying my 60 pound pitbull and girlfriend, this was my childhood car that my dad gave me once I moved out. the brand and engine are so reliable. I just want a 5.0 V8 AWD 😎😎 now I don't care about the luxury.
Absolutely! In fact I'm just waiting for delivery 3.8Tech. Second Gennie for me. Winged badges are extremely a point of inquiry to passersby. Just love it.
im glad you guys are one of the early adopters of 4k but youtube compression is crushing the image quality and the frame rate is also low that you can really tell in drive by shots. can you guys try compressing the video yourself or lowering the frame rate yourself before you upload it to youtube next time?
Buy it. I test drove it and it really blew my mind. Im buying it, really don't care about the badge just enjoyed the car. And yes I have driven many German, Japanese cars. And yes I enjoyed this more.
I'd love to step up to this from my current Elantra, but I'm not in this money position yet,so I'll see how the next generation Elantra looks. Nice Rush T-shirt,Nathan!
People just need to get over the fact that KIA/Hyundai's are "bad" "cheap", etc etc.... I took a 2015 sonata limited for a test drive the other day and ill tell you.. im coming from an Infiniti G35 coupe, and im really happy with that sonata. The amount of car is ALOT for the price they sell it for.... so who cares? BUY IT!
+James Taylor Definitely, the 3.8 Genesis. I purchased a 2015 3.8 Genesis with the Tech and the Ultimate Package. So far, it is the best vehicle that I have ever driven!
Hyundai has raised the bar in luxury cars and no one wants to face it.No car is perfect so stop knocking it.Genesis is a great car and has made a mark in the auto world.I'am waiting for my 5.0 Genesis to come in hope it's soon.
Ok... ok... I get it Given the fact that it is a Genesis, truth is even for the high sticker price, it is comparable to other cars that are much higher in MSRP but not much more in value. Not sure that we gave the car a fair chance here, playing the music that grampa would play on a Saturday night to relax and picking at the volume control placement. Correct me if I am wrong here but had this been a BMW video we would be talking about the horse power, engine specs and the white knuckle experience that we would get out of driving it, same with Audi, in this case however it is a Genesis therefore let's casually mention the rearwheel option and the 8 cylinder upgrade. I don't know, I think Hunday has done an wpnderful job with this car while doing what it can to separate the Genesis line from its more streamline counterparts. Just a thought... Ps. I don't own the Genesis, did drive one at some point and was not at all disappointed.
This car still looks impressive 5 years later. It's a great car and getting used to the positioning of the volume control was nothing. You should have emphasized how easy it is to access all kinds of functions instantly with the rest of the clearly defined buttons, thus avoiding having to go into the display screen. Today, on the used market, these cars are a screaming deal.
I have a 2009 Genesis with the 4.6 liter V8 and I've been very impressed with the quality of the car. It's a smooth ride and with the 375 hp under the hood it's a rocket when you step on the gas pedal. Sorry that these two guys describe the first generation model as "frumpy" but I think it's beautiful and looks like an S-class Mercedes, whereas the second generation Genesis----I hate to say it----reminds me too much of a large Ford Fusion. Their overall look is very similar. But what's important is that Hyundai is building quality luxury cars at very reasonable prices and I'm sold on the brand. My car is now ten years old but I'll be keeping it for a long time to come.
The people bashing this are the one's who don't have a means to buy a 50 thousand dollar car no matter what brand it is. Go buy your Accord and Camries or certified used Lexus or beamer.
It being a Hyundai is a good thing because 1, that great warranty nobody has yet beaten, and 2, bang for your buck value. Hyundai has made dramatic changes in the past few years.
It's time to stop ragging on Hyundai. Their time has come and people need to recognize that. I'm sure in the near future Hyundai will announce the launching of their luxury brand.
They found the SMALLEST things to complain about. The volume knob, temp knob, and horn button are the things that suck?? Awesome looking car to me.
There's always something to complain about, whether you live with the vehicle long term or not. OK, the knobs are the same size and in the same area, but living with the car, you'll learn where everything is. You still get a lot for your money with the base model starting at $38,000.
That's the main point of their show. To tell you the things you might care about, that other reviewers/press have not told you about.
Think about it like this Kristopher: the aforementioned issues are all we could find to fault the car. It's that good. Thanks for watching!
I sure wouldn't be complaining. It is a great deal for the money!
ToyotaCelicaDude1 No doubt. A little ironic you, as a Toyota fan (I'm assuming), are so impressed with this car. :)
Just purchased and loving it. Real stupid to consider anything else for the price
These clowns wouldn't buy a GENESIS because they are in the same show floor as an ELANTRA or VELOSTER? ........ really? oh god forbid someone sees me buying a car at Hyundai, my social life will be ruined...... snobbery at its best
Ikr!...i wouldn't give 2 shits! This is a nice car...i will buy it for what it is and not its badge
God is not for bidding on. It's forbid, btw...
oops you are right. just fixed, thanks
I'd trust this any day over an Audi or BMW; Mercedes builds some durable long lasting engines however maintenance/repair cost are high.
Like crap.
Cadillac CTS.
UltimateDriver Hyundai is the world's 4th largest auto company so they're no joke.
+Marcus Jensen Japanese cars a higher in reliability and build quality...
Are*
Hyundai makes the most reliable cars in the world according to the 2014 JD Power Study.
Hyundai isn't just about cars, they are also the largest shipbuilder in the world, manufacturers jet engines and jet engines parts to US aerospace companies including Lockheed Martin and Boeing.
The engine sounds really nice.
I want the V6 :)
I currently drive a VW Golf GTi 2005 but I will buy the 2015 Hyundai Genesis next year.
I really like Hyundai cars nowadays.
I can't believe how stupid I was to even consider buying a Lexus GS over this baby...great effing car!
you apostate !!
lol
cobaltfly you probably have never test driven GS
+cobaltfly Genesis is wannabes who think they are driving a luxury car but in reality they are driving a jack shit hyundai.
+cobaltfly yeah cos no GS driver is gonna notice your Hyundai passing by them. Cos you know.... wanna be luxury car
That was bad choice, GS is so much better and same price for better reliability... The Hyundai copied so much to make this car...
MilanoFootball I really love how the 2015 Genesis looks! Looks very premium and sturdy
+MilanoFootball lol there isnt any waiting list
I hate it when people undermine a car because of the engine sound. its a cruise car not a sports car
Aren't they basically asking if you're a pretentious snob who isn't secure enough in yourself to buy what you want?
Yes.
Couldn't have said it better
Great way to put it! Couldn't have said it any better
MrTBoneMalone it didn't , they're worth $24k now
I know it may sound stupid saying this about a Hyundai, but this is my dream car and I'll tell you why.
This looks pretty slick and smooth, I might have to test drive this bad boy
What a time to be alive you can pick these up now for 15k or below
I think the badge looks good, gives more of a Bentley/Aston Martin vibe to it.
Acc0rd79
But on the back??????
MajorrBison I think they had replaced the back with the G as well.
Going on my 3rd Genesis, first , second Generation great car
And Hyundai needs to create a "luxury" lineup of cars, such as Honda's "Acura" or Toyota's "Lexus"
That would bring a few more buyers but the cost to create a new brand image would increase the cost of the car and it wouldn't be a value proposition anymore.
vipeboy2003 No if they where smart they would do this and still keep this price to generate much more sales
Talk about that whenever I think about kia or Hyundai's luxury segment
Huyndai's luxury division will carry the name of: "Acryurai."
..what
Why is it that you take a luxury car and rev it up to hear a race car sound? Part of the appeal is the smooth “quiet” ride!
hyndai is making a noble effort to break badge-whoring in america but that's an impossible barrier to breach.
just make a combined kia/hyundai luxury brand. give it a fancy name and a badge and just use that
I wonder what the name would be... Kindai, hyunia? Lol! I crack my self up
ToyotaCelicaDude1 Lol.
Hyundai was thinking about making "Genesis" as a brand.. thats why Genesis coupe and Genesis sedan looks totally different, but they felt like the timing wasnt right or something
They could buy Mazda (that company needs a bigger company with more bank), and use Mazda's stillborn lux brand, Eunos....
Mazda is the farthest from luxury
As a Loyal Ford Fan, a designer, and a recent disliker of Hyundai, I would buy it. I love that Hyundai has quality, value and great style. I think I might be turning into a Hyundai fan if Lincoln do not get their act together. I love design and Hyundai has it on point.
Well, based on IIHS testing this is actually safer than an E Class. I'd take one.
Definitely. Did you see the Genesis small overlap crash test? The driver-side door didn't even get a single dent. Driver could easily open the door and just walk away.
I can't believe this is a Hyundai, it looks absolutely fantastic.
I think this is a very nice car !
It´s ----- to hear none sophisticated people, describe luxury .
Beautiful New Genesis
OMG, I just bought this car! Equipped the exact same way. Same color and interior. It had 15,600 miles on it . Paid $30K . That is great value!
Wow this guy says he wouldn't buy a genesis because it is a hyundai, but if you watch his reviews on VWs, he keeps recommending it just because it's "german engineering."
this car's brand name is only hyundai. but it's completely a German car.its R&D are fully in Germany
we've had one hyundai for 9 years and had no problems with it, just oil change.
If it was $20k I might look at it but not at $50k.
really? $20k? really? Did you even finish high school yet?
Lol it's hard to buy ANY new car for 20k kid
It's called sarcasm but it is a $50k Hyundai so with depreciation it should be worth around $20k in 2 years
southbeach09 in 2 years it will depreciate by more than half? really?, hey kid just stick to watching pokemon okay? let the grownups talk about cars
This car is pretty good. I will buy this to replace my infiniti m37 in the future.
Im dying
I would buy one. I have an '11 Elantra (for commuting, I also have an F150) and my wife has a '13 Sonata Hybrid. (She came from a Lexus GS350) They have been fantastic cars and a great value. And my particular dealer has had exceptional customer service.
You wouldn't catch me dead in a Hyundai 10 years ago. They were horrible. They have truly stepped up their game.
Keep saying "still a Hyundai" is so annoying. What about it?
Saw this car outside of Wal-Mart the other day and thought this car had to be worth like 70-80k. Then saw the back of it the Hyundai logo really surprised me. Nice car
I really wish I had this car. My car would have custom rims.
There we go👏👏👏👏👏Round of applause for following through with the TFL scale!
Hell yes! I would buy it
People complain that the Genesis is sold beside less expensive cars like the Elantra but the same can be said for a CTS Cadillac being sold with less expensive Chevrolets. I think this is a smart move for Hyundai. As your income increases so does your car company.
damn i have a quad core computer and i still cant watch this video in 4k
has to do more with your internet connection, unless you mean by the video just lags like hell if you watch it
yea its very laggy
cgravity123 that's because your screen isn't 4k and your cpu is trying to play it on whatever resolution your screen is.
My genesis has the rear electronic recline seats. And 2 tvs with 20-channel broadcast TV. It's amazing. But that trim is only sold in Korea and UAE.
hyundai should mimic toyota, create a lux brand of its own if they are serious, but do not put hyundai badge on the car.
A fully loaded Buick LaCrosse or Lincoln MKZ will cost about the same as the Hyundai Genesis. If you want to pay for a badge with the same equipment, be prepared to pay up to 70k.
- Lexus GS 350 / Volvo S80 ($55k)
- Jaguar XF / Acura RLX ($60k)
- Mercedes E350 / Cadillac CTS / Cadillac XTS ($65k)
- BMW 535i / Audi A6 ($70k)
I would buy it
Good review guys - in Canada; both the V6 and the V8 are only available in AWD but there are a few driving modes ie: sport mode which throws most of the power to the Rear Wheels for those who want that sporty feel while driving.
Great car!!!! Nice Job Hyundai
Just got my 5.0 Genesis.I have one thing to say a masterpiece on wheels!!
Harman Motor Works
True, but for example, Merc S class is still over-engineered as it is a higher category than C or E class. And you would hardly call the new C class under-engineered :)
And just another tidbit, people that crashed heavily in a Merc will buy another one without thinking. An acquaintance of mine had the whole family on a trip, ended down in a ditch, rolled over several times and came out unharmed. The other day he bough a new one quite happily :)
*****
I could see how experience plays a big part in car choice, especially in cases such as a severe crash.
Just spec'd them out
Gen 5.0: $55.7k
335 GT: $58k
For $2.3k it's worth getting the BMW in my book.
"You're comparing an 8 vs a 6cyl!" Yeah but the 6 will out perform the 8, so still apples to apples.
Didn't see it on the Hyundai website but BMW comes with 4Yrs of maintenance.
So, no I wouldn't not buy the genesis.
is it me or does Hyundai like to take "ideas" off other cars. the front reminds me of a newer ford.
And what does the newer Ford remind u of.... I'll wait
Dee King i'll answer. Aston Martin...
Dee King ford at one point owned them, so I give them a pass.
Every where we have gone with our 2.0T we've had people admire the car, it's just that stylish.
id rather buy an evo for that much.
brembo brakes, bilstein suspension and steering, twin scroll turbo, i dont think thats cheap. Its $50000 worth of performance.
+Ko-wing wong Only thing is the EVO is a TOTALLY different segment lol. Wrong video dude. This a luxury sedan, EVO is a sports car.
Justin Sane the genesis has the same 4b11T model engine in it as the evo
+Ko-wing wong the evo has a shitty interior. i love evos, but these cars shouldnt be compared
+Ko-wing wong and the gensis sedan doesnt even have a 4 cylinder option
The 4k audio quality isn't as loud for some reason but beautiful image and great review of a perfect luxury, budget friendly vehicle:)
I would NEVER buy this car. This car is a proven and evident loser already.
hahaha you didnt even sit in it and talk shit,my friend hawe bmw 5 series he tested the genesis and said that genesis drives better than his 5 series, and he bougt the genesis and happy with it,quality, comfort and etc,the loser here is you because you cant buy this car
DRAGONIKification
You are right I cannot buy this car, not because of money (I have the money) but because it's cheap Korean shit and the material and quality is horrendous.
MatTZI014
I wouldn't go as far as to cal this cheap. Hyundai has really stepped their game up in the last 5 or so years, go check them out... what do you have to lose? If you were right you lost a half hour of flaming hyundai videos on youtube, tops. If I'm right maybe you'll save 20k next lux car you buy.
Great car review. These are the videos I like to see from you guys. Keep it up!
I completely agree with you that Hyundai (and even Kia) copy a lot of styling cues from real luxury brands.
The interior design comes from Peugeot 508. Hyundai copied it and used in Genesis and Cadenza (Kia).
sic22l Interesting. Not sure about that. The Peugot is simple, but has character at the same time. The Genesis is just plain bland and generic. Truthfully, it looks like the interior layout for a luxury car from 20 years ago.
***** Oh, my reality is quite fine, thank you.
You guys should review the 5.0 v8. Engine note and 0-60.
Ive always been a fan of the Genesis, coupe and sedan.
No way I could spend that on a Hyundai
The thing with them selling the Genesis next to all the other Hyundai's (which are cars that are not just sold for value, but very good quality and very nice designs) is that if they made a new luxury devision of Hyundai for the Genesis and Equus and had an all new network of dealerships, the price would go up up up, all that costs a lot more for Hyundai than just selling out of the already existing dealerships. Besides the closest Cadillac dealership to me is the same dealership that will sell you a Chevy Spark.
No way in hell I'm buying a Hyundai or a KIA. Japanese make the best cars.
my 2003 Sonota v6 2.7 almost has 200,000 miles and it's be off roaded, hotboxed, pulled over for speeding 10 times, carrying my 60 pound pitbull and girlfriend, this was my childhood car that my dad gave me once I moved out. the brand and engine are so reliable. I just want a 5.0 V8 AWD 😎😎 now I don't care about the luxury.
ITS A UGLY HIDEUS CRAPPY CAR I WILL NEVER BUY IT GO BUY A 2nd HAND MERCEDES ECLASS OR A NEW JAG XF
OK, enjoy your second-hand overpriced Merc and enjoy the overpriced repair bills whilst you're at it. lol
I tried this car and it is fantastic , drives better than E class or 5 series , try it before talking
This kid is like 9. He doesn't even know what he's talking about or does he even own a license.
deporlover how could you even compare this hyundai car with E class?? Does quality mean something to you?
And yes I enjoyed this more.
in Australia the genesis are 60k drive away and when you compare it to a ford falcon g6e or holden/chevy caprice they are outstanding value for money
Yes I would buy a 2015! I currently own a 2012 Genesis 4.6. Best car I have owned so far.
BUY IT!
It looks beautiful , much better than some Mercedes or BMW models ... Definitely I would buy this car !
I don't know what all the hate is for Hyundai. I've had 3 and they've all been the best cars I've ever had.
Oh, and great review as always.
The fact that they had to really point out silly things like dials being the same size shows you how high quality the car is.
Should I buy a 2015 Genesis 3.8 ultimate package or 2015 Chrysler 300c Platinum?
+James Taylor 3.8
+James Taylor Definitely, the 3.8 Genesis. I purchased a 2015 3.8 Genesis with the Tech and the Ultimate Package. So far, it is the best vehicle that I have ever driven!
Hyundai has raised the bar in luxury cars and no one wants to face it.No car is perfect so stop knocking it.Genesis is a great car and has made a mark in the auto world.I'am waiting for my 5.0 Genesis to come in hope it's soon.
Ok... ok...
I get it
Given the fact that it is a Genesis, truth is even for the high sticker price, it is comparable to other cars that are much higher in MSRP but not much more in value.
Not only would I buy it, I did buy it 46k flat for fully loaded 3.8 rwd. just a great car
I own a Lexus Gs 300...I test Drove The Genisis And I Was Quite Impressed. ..I Would Say Lease It And If U Like It Buy It...
Would I buy it? Hell no, I would never pay $50k for a car, no matter what kind of car it is.
In Australia a base model Mazda 6 is 46000 dollars. If the genesis in Australia is around that price line i would consider a lot.
The people bashing this are the one's who don't have a means to buy a 50 thousand dollar car no matter what brand it is. Go buy your Accord and Camries or certified used Lexus or beamer.
It is definitely time for Hyundai to create a separate luxury brand like Toyota and Honda did with Lexus and Acura.
wish they would have used a genesis badge on the rear as well
U can have it installed at the dealership as an option or buy one from amazon or ebay for about $30
Why does this car have the Audi resemblance? It is because Huyndai's Chief Design Officer is a former designer of Audi.
It being a Hyundai is a good thing because 1, that great warranty nobody has yet beaten, and 2, bang for your buck value. Hyundai has made dramatic changes in the past few years.
took your recommendation and just bought 3.8 AWD with all the features
It's time to stop ragging on Hyundai. Their time has come and people need to recognize that. I'm sure in the near future Hyundai will announce the launching of their luxury brand.
