Interesting that these notebooks are still around after so many years.

I used to be very much in favor of Rose being reinstated and allowed into the HoF as a player because he swore up and down that while he did bet on baseball as a manager, he never bet as a player. So it went from: Never bet at all(strike one,) to only bet on baseball as a manager(strike two.) That notebook is strike three in my eyes. He's lied too many times and any denials that come from him aren't credible. Pete has always claimed to be a fan of the history of the game. He knew what would happen if he bet but he did it anyways and continues to lie about it. I also don't want to hear the excuse that he didn't bet against his teams, as if that somehow shows integrity on his part. He was placing huge wagers with a mob-connected bookie. That opened him up to all sorts of scenarios where he could have been easily extorted into affecting games negatively.
There are far more deserving people who should be in the Hall of Fame or reinstated. Curt Flood deserves to be in the Hall of Fame as a pioneer, like Marvin Miller. Buck Weaver deserves to be reinstated, even if it is only symbolic. He wasn't a Hall of Fame-level player but he was no more guilty of anything than Charlie Comiskey and Ban Johnson were. He deserves to have his name cleared.
