His dad was a legendary athlete in his own right and inspired pete and mentored him throughout his career. He later said in an interview he began crying thinking about all the people that helped him get to 4192. And one of the primary persons was his dad. In the parking lot after the game to his surprise was his dad waiting at his car and he said "your 2nd at bat I think you could of ran a little harder to first base. I want you to know the way you play the game out there is a direct reflection of me. I want you to know that there is always someone watching in that someone is me". I understand that he bet on baseball and what not. I say let him in the hall. I have always wondered why he's had to wait so long??? "I'm just like everyone else.

    four-thousand hits.
