Who here loves Pete Rose? I know I did. He was at his peak in late 60's and 70's, exactly when I was growing up. I loved only the Yankees and disliked every other team and player, except Pete Rose. He was so special.
He passed away today, 9/30/2024. May he rest in peace.

@@ahf5471 I agree completely. I could never understand gambling or why people love it so much. I went to a casino one time in my life. I was with my best friend after 15 minutes playing craps he was up three or $400. I told him “let’s go! Take the money and let’s get outta here.“ of course his response was no no, I’m on a roll. When my son was a little league ball player I developed him after Pete Rose and some Joe Morgan. My son always ran to first base no matter where it was hit. He was complimented many times for his hustle. It would eventually earn him a college scholarship for baseball where he would score the winning run for the conference championship. Pete's point about how he never got on the show as a player kind of calls attention to the fact that Johnny was not a baseball fan. He didn't book baseball players during their prime because he didn't follow the pennant races and whenever he had Joe Garagiola on, it would only to be ask the most generically insipid questions about baseball superstitions etc. (contrast that with the clip when Garagiola is a guest when George Carlin, a real baseball fan was guest hosting and we get intelligent questions about the pennant race etc.) I don't say that to knock Johnny, but his lack of baseball knowledge was always quite evident over the decades. That's why it's priceless to see one clip where Tommy Newsom ends up revealing more knowledge about the game and leaves Johnny upstaged.

RIP to one of the greatest baseball players, ever. F*** the MLB leadership hypocrites. Pete Rose style baseball MADE their product in the 1970s, they banked megabucks on it, then stabbed him in the back. Charlie Hustle played 2b, 3b, LF, and ultimately 1b before managing. He is absolute LEGEND, and I wasn't even a Reds fan. If you loved baseball, you loved Pete Rose. Ray Fosse might be feeling a bit uneasy if there's a league wherever they are now though. 🤣🤣⚾

"They Called Him Charlie Hustle," performed by Phil Coley:
They called him Charlie Hustle, and hustle he did
The way he chattered, hit, fielded, and slid
This old time player in the modern game
Played like many now in the Hall of Fame
I saw him play in the World series in '75
Pete played with such passion he made me feel alive
Pete Rose broke Ty Cobb's record like match sticks -
Four thousand, two hundred, and fifty-six hits!
There's an empty spot in the Hall of Fame,
    Charlie Hustle deserves to claim
How many more hits does he have to make?
How many more records does he need to break?
They called him Charlie Hustle, etc.
Though he bet on baseball, baseball's cardinal sin
He didn't bet against his team, he played to win
There are more sinners than saints in the Hall of Fame -
May Pete Rose be judged on how he played the game!
They called him Charlie Hustle, etc.

Didn't know Pete has just died. I was never much of a sports fan, but even I know that keeping Pete out of the Baseball Hall of Fame is absolute bullsh!t. He didn't cheat. He didn't throw a game or a play. The man bet on his team to win. Pete Rose was a legend. Halls of Fame (like RNRHOF) are F'ing jokes.

Hey, who needs the baseball HOF? Pete Rose was in a class by himself, so there should be a Hall of Fame with only Pete Rose’s memorabilia in it, and no other player should be allowed to be in it except Ty Cobb because apparently Pete idolized him. Notice what he says in this interview: “Nobody knows as much about Ty Cobb as I do.” So Pete idolized Ty Cobb, therefore Ty should be a part of the Pete Rose Hall of Fame.

It's an absolute travesty that Pete Rose wasn't inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame before he passed away. Shame on the baseball commissioners over the years, the HOF, and all the sportswriters that kept him out. Oh, and sportswriters should NOT determine who is inducted. Many didn't even play the game! Ex-baseball managers and perhaps players who were in the league for 10 years or more, should decide on who gets in.
By the way, Ty Cobb bet on baseball and he is in the Hall of Fame. Do you know why? He threatened to kill those who knew and might have told on him.
