It took decades for the Black Sox scandal to fester into Pete's situation, and it took decades for Pete's situation to fester into what it is today. It's similar to the festering of the stock market or wars.
There was much more that never came out. That was really bad. Somebody on a local Cincinnati radio station sports radio station talked about it. Some of it came out a few years ago about underage girls
He'd manage so that your team would beat the point spread rather beat the other team. Some games that would mean he'd be happy with a loss as long as he beat the spread. Other games he might overwork pitchers or take unnecessary risks to beat the spread. Why on earth would you wish for that?
@@humanbeing2420no doubt that Pete was dead wrong for betting, but to insinuate that he would be happy with a loss so long as he covered his bet is absolutely false. I hope you can appreciate that baseball spreads are generally a very close/small margin. When he bet on the Reds to cover he was betting on them to not only cover the spread but always to win the game. He always played and managed in a fierce attempt to win every game, so unless you have a film that the MLB has been holding onto for 40 years and hasn't released yet that shows otherwise you are merely assuming what is not logical or proven. Congratulations 🎉🎉
@@garyneilson5457 There is evidence that he used his weakest pitchers on the days he didn't bet on the Reds, so that he'd have his best pitchers for days he did bet on them. I'll get you the link. But really, you think he made his baseball decisions completely independently of his betting decisions? That he put the long term interests of the Reds above his own financial interests?
It may appear that way at first by the way he presents, but his words have plenty of personality to me. He cares about the facts and that's it. And the facts are grim.

The HOF will be a joke until the greatest player of all time is in! ... wait I'm getting word Rickey Henderson was a first round induction, never mind HOF is real now.
Facts…Rickey Henderson is without question one of the greatest position players of all-time. The man’s counting stats for walks, runs, SBs and WAR are among the greatest all-time.
@justme4172 Rose did not abide by rule numero 1. Protect yourself. The repeated lying, thinking he was above the game, and more. He had a chance to have gambling debts forgiven. Pay off his taxes owed. Keep him out of prison. And eventually let him in HOF. He said nope.
Rule Numero uno is to WIN the game!!! That’s what Pete ALWAYS tried to do!!!! If you know Pete, and obviously you don’t, PETE would do ANYTHING to win and hated losing!!! Dowd is a clown in love with his stupid self!!
"All were bet on Cincinnati winning, except when Mario Soto was pitching"
What a vote of confidence in Mario Soto 😂
Thanks for Sharing!!!
Rose wouldn't bet on Soto...essentially telling bookies to bet heavy against the reds
Which questions the integrity of the game.
very good! thanks for sharing
True!!!
Betting on your team to win may include shaving runs.
Anybody have a link to the report? I can't find it anywhere online.
Google The Dowd report the whole 200 + pages are online as a PDF
The cloud on the game is nothing compared to todays sad state it's in

Looks like Mr. Dowd was correct.
You’re right about that!!!

Dowd has very little animation in his face

Exactly who one does not want investigating one’s illegal activities.

Still is a cloud on the game. If you think mlb games aren’t rigged- wake up
