Is Pete Rose a HOF baseball player? No doubt. Do I think that Pete Rose has suffered enough? I do. Unfortunately, I don’t have a vote. My biggest fear is that if Pete gets in, does it open the doors for Bonds, McGwire, Clemens, and the rest of the “Steroid Era” guys? It’s a slippery slope, and I just want this resolved.

I'd bet you would see the owners kids betting on games all the times. The ones who will inherit teams with no input, no tax, no effort. But you wanna penalize the guy who made 2 franchises world series champions and set the records for being an aggressive hitter and runner. The rich people hate a guy with heart and hustle that they will never have.

There is one thing that I don't hear people talk about. There has never been any evidence that Pete tried to fix baseball games. He bet on his team to win. The Black Sox were accused of taking money to throw games. There is a huge difference in what Pete did when compared to the Black Sox. Pete is and was baseball and should be in the Hall of Fame. He broke a rule and was punished for 35 years. Now is the time to let him in.

I was at HOF inductions back in 1999 and the saddest sight that I've ever witnessed was Pete Rose sitting outside the HOF building on the road at a table signing baseballs. Always amazed me how "high on the horse" but Bart and Vince were...and Vince especially always wanted to make rulings by himself - as if his special place in life - being born into wealth - gave him some celestial advantage.

Bottom Line- Pete Rose belongs in the Hall of Fame based on his performance on tbe diamond. That's how he should be judged. It's called the Hall of Fame NOT the Hall of Saints. He belongs simply based on the performance. And then his whole story should be presented on his plaque the great with the bad.

Rose never seems to have understood the difference between the game and the business. He was either unwilling or unable to get it through his head that other bad behaviors did not pose an existential threat to the professional sport the way gambling did. Mickey Mantle was an alcoholic, and that reflected poorly on him but his alcoholism never posed an existential threat to the business of baseball. What Shoeless Joe Jackson did posed an existential threat to the business. This is why Mickey is in the HOF and Shoeless Joe is not. And neither is Rose, and rightly so. Rose seemingly did not understand this difference. Or maybe he did but just could not admit it.

Cant compare the two, very different catchers. Its like comparing Kareem to Jokic or Marino to Mahomes. Bench was around 6'4 and strong, his hands where massive. Look at the Catchers that followed bench Parish, Scioscia, Gary Carter all bigger men. Bench changed the game forever catching one handed and his stand up pivot throw.
Pudge was shorter and brought quickness and explosiveness to the position. In the 90's want to be catchers all started doing footwork drills. They both forever and for the better changed the way the position was played. Whom was better, is Steph Curry a better PG then Magic. It all depends what you want your PG to do. There is no correct answer, but without Bench catching one handed, Pudges style never works.
