      Pete was what fans and media call as a five-tool player, meaning he did everything he could to help his team win. I don't know too many people off the top of my head that embodied similar qualities on the field. No question, he paid a huge penalty for what he did in betting on baseball.

      And MLB supports sports books at every opportunity, including advertising in their ballparks. It's terribly hypocritical.

    It's a shame Pete didn't get caught gambling on baseball in 2024 instead of 1989. Ohtani didn't even get a one game suspension... Maybe MLB would have even hired Pete to be their Draftkings marketing manager SMH. HYPOCRITES. F MLB ..F the HOF. I hope Pete's family make the HOF remove Pete's memorabilia. True. I only saw him play once against our beloved Dodgers. It was 10 times better than any other game I attended. Steve Yeager hit a grand slam to blow it open, but just watching Johnny Bench and Tony Perez take batting practice was worth the price of admission. not to mention Pete Rose running so hard to first on a walk you literally thought this man will run through a brick wall. Yes, he should be in HOF. But, we are used to as a country, injustice everywhere unfortunately.

    • @MattZ653
      @MattZ653 24 минуты назад

      @@vernpascal1531 As a player, there is absolutely no question he did everything with full intensity at the plate and in the field. He did whatever it took to see his team win. However, since 1989 I am in the camp similar to many other fans and media, I hope that the BBWAA and the Hall of Fame can finally relax their rules--whenever that time so those who have a ballot could consider him for induction--again, as a player. On the bottom of the plaque, there should be an asterisk briefly detailing why he bet on the sport and why he was banned in 1989. The asterisk should serve as a reminder that gambling in sports is wrong. No other way to say it.

My theory is that he was investigated for so long and so thoroughly and they found so much dirt on him that it was just a giant mess. And that the gambling scandal was a way to package it to the public in a way where his banishment could be justified. I felt that while MLB crucified him on the gambling, they actually protected Pete in a way, being that the gambling might have actually been the least of it. And in my head, he's still Pete Rose. Not banished Pete Rose. Just Pete Rose like I remember him when I was a kid. Thrilling player. One of the best I ever saw.

    If you’re banned for something you did like cheating betting on the game thats kinda the same thing you shamed the game you played for. Now all of a sudden a players past and what he did is not something to bring up in his death. We have to remember that and make sure it’s for all players. Latino players Blk players all players.

As kids, we had a poster of him on the wall at the foot of our bed, because he was my brother’s favorite player, even though we are from Philly and Pete was a Red. I didn’t care much for him until he became a Phillie, and one game, there was a weak little foul pop over near the dugout. Pete, playing first, took off after that pop up, and nobody thought he had a chance to get it. It was an inconsequential play in an inconsequential game, and though he dove and still couldn’t catch it, damn if he didn’t try his best. That was the moment I became a fan of Pete Rose. He was a real character, a vanishing breed, and he gave us all he had. Rest in Peace, Pete.

      That's the thing I always felt. That the gambling was used and that in a way, it actually protected Pete. That the noise from this gambling scandal was so loud that MLB just went with this as a way to get him out. But that the real reasons lurked beneath the surface. That their investigations concluded that he just wasn't a very straight-up guy in any respects. And if not for gambling, there were other scandals that could be unveiled.

    His lifetime is over henceforth so it the ban...he bet on his team to win when he did bet. He broke the rules, but he didn't cheat and he didn't throw games. He lived and breathed baseball. It's time to give him his spot in the Hall.
