    Mr Rose will probably not remember a day that I will never forget. It must have been 1967/68. My Dad took me to Forbes Field in Pittsburgh, PA. The Pirates were playing the Reds. During pre-game warmups a ball rolled up to wall by the 1st base side. It was right in front of me! I jumped over, grabbed the ball & returned to my seat. Then two ushers approached and demanded that I give them the ball or else get expelled from the park. Mr Rose saw the disturbance and came over to inquire. After one of the ushers explained the offense, Mr Rose told them to go away and leave me slone. He even signed the ball that I got to keep. Forever grateful. Thank you, Charlie Hustle!

    In 1975 I was 14 and lucky enough to be at the World Series in Boston. Watching Carlton Fisk, Carl Yazstrzemski, Johnny Bench, Pete Rose, and Joe Morgan. What a magical series that was. I was at the WS with my grandfather. He would never see the Red Sox win one. I’ve already seen them win four. We’re not here very long. Make the choice to do right by people. There is a blessing in that.

    Pete is right about those in there are far from angels, I mean racism of the old time players, also the rumor (which is probably true) of Ty Cobb by his admission he killed someone? I get it Pete gambled number one sin of the game, lied, did not throw games, say what you want he did not throw them, not excusing anything he did, but I think baseball really needs to look at this with a wider lense same as they should with the ROIDS, I mean Barry Bonds was a HOF player before he turned into the hulk, and I also understand why those records are tainted too, but case by case, you can notice some bloated stats out of anywhere. As for PETE you can’t tell him you can get in if you never gamble, especially now that you advertise gambling during games and podcasts, I mean please now.

    If it were up to me, the Hall of Fame would only be based on your performance on the field. The character clause is always applied selectively and often hypocritically. Just base it on performance on the field. So yes to Rose, Shoeless Joe Jackson, Eddie Cicotte, Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, Rafael Palmeiro, Roger Clemens, Gary Sheffield, Manny Ramirez, and anybody else I'm forgetting. The character clause has reached the point where we have so many great players not in the Hall of Fame that I don't even know what it's supposed to be measuring anymore.

  • @NeilTruick
    @NeilTruick 10 месяцев назад

    In 1989, I said Pete shouldn't be in the Hall. In 2024, I now have three reasons why he should:
    1. MLB's exploitation of the Steroid Era (post-strike McGwire/Sosa home run chase).
    2. MLB inviting Pete to appear in the 2015 All-Star Game in Cincinnati, especially considering he couldn't attend as a fan.
    3. The Oakland A's potential relocation to Las Vegas.
    With all that being said, there is no doubt in my mind his "lifetime ban" is truly a lifetime ban. Within 72 hours of his eventual passing, Major League Baseball will announce Pete Rose will be enshrined in the Hall of Fame posthumously, because, regardless of the gambling issues, that is where he belongs.
