As a true AIC fan, I am almost in tears watching this nowadays. R.I.P Layne. I know Duvall is good, but he could never replace the vocals cords that you were given, it's as if they were made out of gold.
aha couldn't agree more,I've sadly had to grow up with the sad pathetic excuse they now like to call music... it's sad to think most the kids of my generation don't even know who these guys are,let alone anyone from the grunge/alternative scene. It sickens me to know that it can only get worse from here. I'm also pretty upset about the fact that I not only missed out on GOOD music by 20 years, but when my future children hear this they're gunna be like "shit, I didn't just miss out on seeing these guys, but mom did too" Kind of funny that when my Dad bought these CDs that 25 years later his daughter was going to steal them all.
The last chorus to man in the box live is always "bone chilling"when Layne sings it, but in this performance, i can't even describe the feeling i get every time i hear it. Definitely missed along highly UNDERRATED bassist Mike Starr, whose performance outside of his amazingly groovy bass riffs, provided the energy in the playing to me.
3:39 instant goosebumps. Never heard vocals carry an entire fuckin band until now. Incredible. Sounds almost better live. Hitting a combo of 4 high then 1 deep notes 15 times in one song, blows me away.
It warms my heart to know there's a few recorded live performances where you can see Layne at full power, before the drugs really took their toll. That section at 3:40 is another level - he might be the only one on it.
Phenomenal. Easily one of the best live bands to ever exist when layne sang performed. Few singers have his range and ability to yell and tone it back down
I'm ashamed to admit it, but I wasn't a huge fan of Alice in Chains until this year because I always thought Layne's vocals were too layered and overproduced. Turns out that's just how perfect he is with the rest of the band that I didn't believe it was possible to sound like this naturally.
He probably would not be so damn good and emotion erupting, his pain was his power and inspiration. Still I would exchange music he gave me for his well being and happiness.
The combination of Laynes absolutely incredible vocals paired with Jerry’s insane guitarist abilities Is truly an amazing experience I wish I could have lived to see. It’s why AIC will forever be my all time favorite band. It’s extremely rare for a lead singers vocals to put me in a state of paralysis like Layne’s can. Man, he had some serious pipes. B flat he could just belt out and sustain on the chorus... it's actually incredible. Watch covers, nobody can do it the same. RIP Layne!!!
Yes but man hewas was possesed

Layne was the greatest vocalist in the history of rock. For real.
I got him 2nd after Cornell
He was a legend for sure.
But.....Dio???
Bruce Dickinson....??
Freddie..?!?!
@@jacquelineess1141 Layne was better than all
@@OscarOffTheCuff lol. better than dio and dickinson son, sit down.
@@marlew6629 he was though, sit down first bud.
god damn holy shit this was epic
As a true AIC fan, I am almost in tears watching this nowadays. R.I.P Layne. I know Duvall is good, but he could never replace the vocals cords that you were given, it's as if they were made out of gold.
What a band. What a voice. Layne has no equal. RIP brother.
Chris cornell
They have such an intimidating stage presence here. This is really a show. I’ve got goosebumps.
Jerry's solo is always on point! :)
Buried in my BLEEEP 😒
If you don't get goosebumps at 3:40 you have no soul lol
344 people are outside the box
XD
354.
likely nickel-back fans
Or did they think dislike was dis-I-like
zzzzzing
344 people are in the box: Matchbox Twenty.
Watching this reminds me children, that once upon time, in a land far away.....................MTV was once good
aha couldn't agree more,I've sadly had to grow up with the sad pathetic excuse they now like to call music... it's sad to think most the kids of my generation don't even know who these guys are,let alone anyone from the grunge/alternative scene. It sickens me to know that it can only get worse from here. I'm also pretty upset about the fact that I not only missed out on GOOD music by 20 years, but when my future children hear this they're gunna be like "shit, I didn't just miss out on seeing these guys, but mom did too"
Kind of funny that when my Dad bought these CDs that 25 years later his daughter was going to steal them all.
+Madeline Ann thats why the good Lord gave us MP3's and CD's....................i'm gonna leave mine in my will :D
+Dave Abbott EXACTLY!!!!
True love this comment 👍🏼
Dave Abbott well minus the censoring of the two parts where he says shit, yeah mtv was good back then.
The sheer power that layne is putting into this vocal performance is unfathomable
the bassist has a nice tone!!
Spector!!!!!
Kids, you want to be in a rock band? Here's some homework.
Layne was one of a kind
How about Mike MF Starrs thumping bass line
3:39 instant goosebumps. Never heard vocals carry an entire fuckin band until now. Incredible. Sounds almost better live. Hitting a combo of 4 high then 1 deep notes 15 times in one song, blows me away.
Credence Clearwater is all John Fogerty.
@@vshagoyan ok?
You said you never heard vocals carry an entire band, but perhaps you weren’t thinking of CCR
WOW just WOW. RIP Lanye
@@vshagoyan CCR is for my granpd and grandma. I'll stick with Alice in Chains
It warms my heart to know there's a few recorded live performances where you can see Layne at full power, before the drugs really took their toll. That section at 3:40 is another level - he might be the only one on it.
This is just unbelievable.
This song kicked the 80s ass and ushered in the 90s in a badass fashion
Folks, this is a rare piece of Live performance which exceeds any limits of the human.
When Jimi Hendrix talks about electric church music, this is what he’s talking about.
This is fucking godlike performance !!
God imagine if he never turned to drugs. He would have been generally regarded as one of the best singers in the world like Freddie Mercury.
Agreed
He probably would not be so damn good and emotion erupting, his pain was his power and inspiration. Still I would exchange music he gave me for his well being and happiness.
Lmao he's tweaking hard right here
My god that bass, sounds incredible
DONT EVER CENSOR ALICE IN CHAINS
1:20 😍 Jesus Christ is right Layne!! What an amazing voice. Another legend gone way too soon. Free of those demons now beautiful dude.
Deny your maker? free of demons now? I think the demons got him.
that's a powerful voice for a small man lol.great song
+Kethann Saunders He was like 6' 2 tho
oh really???I cant even tell from the videos..he looks so small on tv lol
layne could handle dat big booty
LAYNE WAS TALL AND SLIM LIKE A LOT OF YOUNG ROCKERS..
LITTLE..? BAD CHOICE OF WORDS...
+TheSeattlegreen Don't turn it into a race argument lol
Mike's energy is so fucking awesome.
Totally agree ❤
Layne's voice just wow absolutely brilliant.
The head banging. the vocals. The everything.
3:40
+J Earnest fucking insane, imagine the amount of pussy one can get with a voice like that
Absolutely! And deeper into the well at 3:44. No one but Layne can do that.
@@franciscarmen3941 yup ! I've heard endless covers of this song and nobody can hit that note
Oh my goodness, that voice. 🥰🥰🥰
You can FEEL the effort Layne put into every performance...
(Put more precisely, a powerful voice.)
s ame here
The contrast between Layne and Jerry voice is amazing. Jerry doesn't get enough credit for his voice.
This performance is absolutely awesome. I wish I could've seen them live when Layne was still alive, but unfortunately I was born too late :(
momentarytruce 90's really the best era for rock music. I will always miss those grunge music from the era.
I love the growling he does to the riff at 2:04
3:22 That fu**ing sscreaaammmm...!
RIP Layne ***
Thank you Jerry Cantrell for keep AIC Legacy alive!
0:47 LOL they censored the song
Why in the f*ck are they bleeping the word SHIT??
Not a real cuss word these days
This show was recorded 23 years ago. "these days" isn't really applicable...
Floyd Barber I didn't vendor. RUclipsr did
Kristen Dokken hm strange, youtube didnt it this time...
Weird that you complain about that, yet censor your own comment.
Truly a talented talented vocalist, the grunge era produced so many amazing vocalist it’s insane.
I loved AIC when I was a kid.. and thought I had seen all the interesting stuff they had on YT. Cannot believe I never saw this. Final chorus as everyone else has said is jaw dropping
That chorus is probably one of the hardest to sing in rock. Layne was amazing. Feel sorry for Mike Starr too, he was a solid bassist.
