TheMisfitsramones yeah its pretty much impossible to miss the huge differnce between facelift layne and dirt layne, in this he looks like a big healthy guy, but hes practically anorexic in videos of dirt songs
That last “Man in the Box” chorus...Layne is channeling the power of the friggin Sun! These two recordings are absolutely perfect vocals and music. So amazing.
Hbomb powerful. I mean, I love Chris Cornell, god bless his soul, but to me, this video is proof that Layne Staley was the most perfect voice ever, in all respects, i cluding power but also tone, timbre, style, everything. If there ever was lyrics to Mozart's pieces (other than the operas like "Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen!", of course), he (Staley) would be the man for it. Motherfucker was like a demigod. garrison0532082 Ur funny. What's so difficult to understand? It actually depends on the standard. If it's a competition, what are the standards? You could probably Google vocalist of the year in his active years and see what rock magazines said at the time. But to cite one of many examples, SEBASTIAN BACH, was by far a way more powerful vocalist. Judging by range and power and how long he could carry a note. It's not even a question. Hence why I said, for HIS style Layne was great, but if you include all vocalists, no way the best.
RIP MIKE & LAYNE. Strength, Courage, Loved Ones, and Badass Grit to ALL who are addicted. H stopped my breathing, twice woke up in ER, Prison, rehab over 7 times, and not until I finally had enough, I quit cold turkey in a small South Texas town May 25, 2017. Strength, Courage and Grit to all addicts, choose to live!
Jackie thx for the news flash. He never said it was, simply commenting on Layne's voice. Sheesh u people who live to jump down someone's throat and correct them all the damn time. Now, begone. Trying to enjoy greatness
The boys, in their prime. Layne looks so strong, like its effortless to just belt it out... later on he struggled to hit that level but still did it way longer than humanly possible
LOVE Layne's headbanging! Before he needed a mic stand just to hold himself up. 😢 And can we just appreciate Mike’s playing and headbanging too? Just to keep 25 pounds of hair flinging and still be able to play takes real talent!
I love Sean's kick drum in this. You can hear it so well...as a drummer it is very satisfying cause my kick drum sounds like shit. Lmao. Also would just like to add, how these guys are still not in the Rock and Roll hall of fame is beyond belief
Dont pay any attention to that outdated elitist boomer crap. AIC is one of the greatest, most talented, original and dynamic bands in Americas history.
This entire band was untouchable. This is a perfect moment in time that can never be duplicated. There has never been a singer or will ever be one that comes close to Layne. We were just fortunate enuff to grow up at this time to see it. The kids today don’t have a music pool to pull from like we did. Everything they see is computer generated crap or a copy of a copy of the real thing. It’s actually really sad.
Love the singing and bass in this song. I can't leave these videos alone. I miss Mike and Layne so bad. They were all so perfect together. I cry over Mike and Layne almost every day. Such talent they had. Mike's bass kicks so much ass! I wished I could have helped Mike and Layne. Missed but they are in my heart. If I have to comment every day, I will. I know what their lives were about. RIP . You are our Angels in Heaven.
Chris Pepitone very well said. I also feel a srrange connection to Layne.....never met the guy. Just something I think anyone whos ever felt despair feels a connection to his lyrics. ❤ to you brother.

I honestly believe that this concert showed the greatest metal singer of all time....Layne Stayley. The tone and compression he achieves is incredible. The final chorus to Man in the Box is mind blowing.

I've been watching this video almost everyday since like a year. It's so fuckin perfect. Layne was epic... Knowing he died when I was just 4 years old pisses me off so badly!

Their first two albums and the sap ep were absolutely killer. I love the stuff after too but those recordings with the original 4 were phenomenal. And performances like this.
Badass, just F.ing Badass. Their sound, their look, and their tight live performance. they are early on here,1990, end of 1st album Facelift tour, yet they have the presence of journeymen musicians, and expert entertainers. Layne Staley especially looks healthy and sounds awesome. I would've killed to catch one of these shows. Thank God they recorded a few...
That voice!!! It's the voice of my youth. I wish I could look back on Layne and my youth in happiness. I wasted my youth. I wasted my youth just as Layne wasted his life. And I'm not being mean. I, somehow, turned my life around. Layne never could. And it's so fucking sad. I would love to be able to say we both made it out of our pit of drug addiction. Wish I could feel like I'm sharing my future with his. I hear his voice and I'm transported back in time. But sadly to a time he never escaped from. It's so bittersweet. I only know the man from his music but I wish he could know how much he helped me exercise my demons through his voice. His demons helped purge mine. And I hope that somehow he can know this. Thank you Layne.
Who's watching this in 2024?

🙋♀️🙋♀️❤❤
It Ain’t Like this anymore.
dr. K ain’t that the truth
You're not wrong.
Truth

Not even close
Only Layne could wear sunglasses in a night show and still be awesome.
Oh my god I cant stop laughing. That i the funniest thing I have ever heard. Its true. Those sunglasses!! Gotta love Layne
It's the heroin, but yeah. Still a legend
True that
no
Such a 90s look.
Is nobody going to mention Sean Kinney's drumming? He was and is a groove monster and the driving force behind their music.
Chris Mason
most underrated member of the band
Hell of an underrated drummer period. Best of his era
love his drum fill at the begin of the verse
Top 5 drummer of all time easy very underated
Agreed 100%
Fun fact: This wasn't even filmed in black and white, that's just how metal it actually looked that night.
Had so much fun it sucked the saturation out of all the cameras.
Damn it fun! Always- always sucking the saturation out of the cameras!

this era of Jerrys headbanging was arguably the best in rock history. to be able to play guitar while doing that proves how badass JC is.
Exactly

Higher than mothercuking everest, by miles, is his peak of greatness.
his front man skills was off the chain in this era
Can’t disagree
Notice how Laynes and Jerry's voices tend to make a perfect duet? That's what I absolutely love about them.
Me too - it was powerful and haunting at the same time...
I'm so lucky to have an electric guitar very similar with Jerry's
I feel like DuValls voice is too similar to Jerry's. You can't have 2 backup singers in a band.
Isabelle Doyle jerry would done just fine being the lead singer . Duval sucks he's looks like a fan boy .
Ooh, them together has such a unique, eerie quality that will never be duplicated. Completely one of a kind sound. Beautifully haunting.
Starr had the most gorgeous hair of them all ❤ Jerry was beautiful, Sean was so manly, and Layne had a voice to be reckon
I agree 💯
Jerry is still handsome to me
Layne fuckin rocked the messy long hair, goatee, and sunglasses better than anybody else
Ikr!
Absolute fucking rockstar 🤘!!

Every time I watch this, Layne's vocal reach really amazes me. The guy's throat sounds like a thunder, it's almost unreal.

Alice In chains ARE METAL imo
MrTheImmortality AIC are metal..there nothing as such grunge music.. grunge is a "movement" not a genre
Alice in chains said on many occasions and many interviews that they were metal not grunge.
They are metal vibes grunge whereas nirvana are pink vibes grunge
Punk lol
Horror and metal are life metal alt
Almost 30 years ago.. like it was yesterday
