Louie being better at Dandori than Olimer actually makes some sense. As Olimer said when you beat him the last time he only wanted to return home, so he was throwing the battles to let you win. He was probably only turning people into leaflings so you’d be forced to figure out a cure, and use it to cure him. Also it’s kind of a mercy transformation because Koppites and other tiny people would die without life support on this planet.
On the other hand Louie sincerely wants to remain on PNF 404 and is trying to defeat you so you’ll leave him alone. It’s also a case of Louie being a genius ditz vs Olimar being a methodical thinker.

Yes because PNF 404 is Earth after the extinction of humans, this implies that before the extinction Event happened, some humans and animals, plants, etc escaped Earth for the stars and eventually became groups like the Hocotations and Koppaites

    • @Cheatscape
      @Cheatscape Год назад +113

If you read some of Shepard's family logs, it's implied that her entire race came from another planet after something happened to their original planet. After dozens of generations, their race forgot how to travel through space and had to relearn it. With the connection between Oatchi and the final boss, I think this means that Shepard's race originated on Earth and were forced to leave, but not without taking some dogs with them. It's possible that her race might even be the descendants of humans, as the notes also suggest they had to adapt their bodies to their new environments, hence their much smaller size.

This is a bit of a reach, but I like to imagine that part of the reason Louie tried to run away with and leafify the Koppaite crew was actually because he wanted to leafify _himself_ in order to live on PNF-404, but because he stole their food (which was juice made from glow sap), he had already been "vaccinated" against it. So, he double-checks that leafifying them doesn't work and hangs onto Nelle on the off chance she can "cure" him of his immunity
Legit, I'm surprised the game didn't end with Louie leafifying himself and running off to Go Native-- seems like it would've been a natural "end" to his character. The thing about Louie is that I hesitate to call him either evil or incompetent.
He has a truly bizarre, utterly alien way of thinking, being more akin to a bug. The satisfaction of immediate physical needs and desires is paramount without regard for conventional morality or ethical behavior. It's hard to call him evil when the things he does have no malicious intent behind them.
By that same token, I wouldn't call him incompetent, either. He can survive in a hostile environment with little to no aid and make complex plans to handle most circumstances. He's a capable leader if his Dandori skills are any indication, and he has a natural talent for taming animals.
The thing is, Louie isn't a villain because he has no ill intent. He doesn't go out of his way to scheme against the heroes and wants nothing more than to eat and play. At the same time, he's only an antagonist because the protagonists won't just leave him alone, and he knows their meddling will interrupt his desired life.
Surprisingly, Louie is one of the most complicated, strange, and compelling characters Nintendo has ever created. He's the kind of character you want to dig deep into and study because he's the kind of character to make one ask, "What is this guy's deal?"

One thing I would like to add to this list of Louie’s personality traits and quirks is that in 4 he has his own notes on treasures given us a window of his thought process
Which can be summed up in three categories
    Food, Playing and his Nana
Aside from his food obsessed ways he does display some sort of “child at heart” mentality as he tries to play with lots of treasures much like a child would which easily translates into something of a personality quirk much like Autism or Asperger‘s he commonly comments that he tries to fiddle with, attempt to climb on or stick his head in enclosed spaces which are big signs of his quirky behavior He also makes a lot of connections to his Nana which is probably the most driving force of his behavior, as she’s one of the few people that he shows any affection or concern for
In the end Louie can be summed up as a sheltered man child with the capabilities of a apex predator

Louie is an eccentrically dangerous element of chaos, where many of the series’ events are unintentionally caused by his dangers. I’d like to think of him as an accidental villain, where he is dangerous to the protagonists but isn’t malicious outright, just ignorant about his actions.
His hunger got in the way of his job, and would cause the company he works for to fall into economic downfall, and would get left behind when Olimar’s rush to get back to Hocotate ends up with Louie getting stuck on PNF404. It would cause a dangerous round trip, which would end up with him getting stuck in the cargo bay. Perhaps he was just a bit mad that he wont be able to return home.
In Pikmin 3, Louie would end up getting captured by creatures and mistaken for Olimar, which results with him thinking he got kidnapped. He stole the juice because well… as you said, to rub it in his captor’s face, and end up with him unknowingly screwing over the kopaites.
And in Pikmin 4, he was told to copy Olimar’s actions. But… Louie has one braincell bouncing around in his head and lacks much of a moral highground. He would drag Nelle along and yet again, screwing everyone over.
Oh and by the way, Louie’s first deal is somehow much harder than his second? I got platinum on his second battle and got bronze first.

Edit: Since Louie’s grandma said that bugs liked at him, does that mean that the bug enemies that attack the captains are actually trying to play with him but hurt him on accident? Also it seems that Louie was unconscious during the Titan dweevil fight, and he calls himself the king of bugs because when he found it he likely thought it was gonna eat him but it put him on it’s head instead causing him to think it dubbed him as royalty but it actually just liked the shiny antennae on his suit. Main reason I think that is because of a lot of Louie's notes in the Treasure Catalog of 4 are comprised of him pointing out how something seemed valuable and it should be sold. It could just be a reference to Pikmin 2 in itself because that's his debut game, but I like to think Louie sometimes thinks about money too because that's a common concern amongst the other characters.
It's a subtle little thing that helps me realize Louie does try to help, even if it's usually to help himself in the end!
Very nice video I like hearing about this funny guy.

All 3 of the koppaites are related to the pikmin 3 cast in some way. Of course, Yorke is Alph's oldest brother, Nelle has a relative who is a famous botanist, hinting twords Brittany,
and when Don was a ranger, somone nicknamed "ducky" was a trainee that was a great (but unsteady) friend twords him and who also gave Don a scar of sorts at an unspecified time, Charlie is shown to have a rubber duck in pikmin 3 that he cares about quite a bit, so this is a lose hint twords him (I think it is very likely Don gave charlie the nickname of ducky, which is fun to think about. All of this also fits with charlies personality, either putting on a tough guy act or being a real softie.)
It also goes without saying, but the three of them look very similar to the pikmin three cast, having the same colors and similar builds, hair, and facial features.
[If you speak to the trio enough, you'll slowly get the information above]
*The following section is just an extra.*
I find it wonderful how they threw a bone to fans of every game in the series. Every single game in the series is at least refrenced in some way, and while it changes the timeline for a more intresting story, it doesn't disrespect any game in the series or suddenly make them not cannon.
(One still happens. it's just that the bad ending is now cannon. Two is changed a lot, as we are essentially playing through it, but the major story beats from that are plausibly still going on in the background (going into theory territory, its possible the president sent louie to rescue olimar as punishment for his appetite.) Three still happens via the dialouge mentioning that down the road, if things continue the way they are on koppai, they might run into a food shortage.) Even so, 4 still maintains an identity of its own.

One minor thing is that I'm pretty sure Nelle being appreciative of Louie looking after her in his own way was only half of the reason she wanted him to be brought back, the other half being that she wanted to beat the shit out of him for stealing their food, since the other Koppaites mention how she's "unusually serious when it comes to food" and how when we DO bring Louie back, she requests to be left alone with him for a bit to which Shepherd requests that they "keep it civil"

I like to think that Pikmin 4 is a prequel because it helps explain why Louie keeps running away when Olimar tries to leave the planet. Olimar didn't forget Louie in Pikmin 2. Louie ran away because he was back on PNF404 and wanted to stay and was probably genuinely trying to kill olimar on the Titan dweevil

    Fun fact:
Louie is basically the lord of PNF-404 since he can eat all of them (proven by his descriptions), his ability to survive literally anything there, and his ability to somehow telepathically control Kaijus (kaijus for them at least) like a giant gun spider and a dog that has mastered the elements of the world around it.

I love Louie as a character because... he's just so hatable. He's such a self-centered maniac with few if any redeeming qualities. At every opportunity, Louie finds SOME way to mess stuff up, seemingly just because he felt like it sometimes. Makes for a great cartoonishly disruptive (semi) antagonist without being straight up outwardly evil.

Louie keeps wanting to stay on pnf-404, but he doesn't seem to know about the life support eventually running out. Also, since oxygen is poisonous to him, I question how safe it is to eat the food on the planet. And whenever the koppaites or olimar ever talk about food, it's always fruits or vegetables so, i wonder if eating poisonous, aliens has effected him...also he tried to eat the water wraith. Would've tried to eat the plasma wraith if he wasn't tied up on the ship.

Louie's priorities, according to the Piklopedia and Treasure Collection, appears to be food, then money, then sleep, then dogs. He seems to care about nothing and no one else, even though he does talk about his Nana. He's an evil little shit and I hate him. No, I'm not just mad I had to restock my Pikmin at the very end of the boss fight with Glow Seeds when he killed 60 at once...
Also, very notable, if you go to the Piklopedia for the final bosses for 2 and 4, you'll note that both of them are *harmless* when Louie isn't around. He's the true antagonist of this series and his shenanigans are unforgivable.
...which, I suppose makes him a good character, because he makes me feel intense, irrational anger, and that makes him memorable and effective.

Furthermore, the instant-death element Gloom, which looks exactly like Tears of the Kingdom's Gloom, is used by only two bosses: the Smoky Progg, which is a horrifying mutant and one of the few enemies that can truly be called a *monster...* and the Ancient Sirehound, which again is under Louie's control.

I love Louie because at his core, the entire thing reads as "We live in a society" done shockingly well for a game about throwing carrots at bugs.
He's an antisocial wreck with an enormous eating disorder that seems like he's just sick and tired of partaking in modern society as a whole. He'd rather directly struggle for his food and have access to as much as he can carry than have any middleground or serve under anyone else. Because like, when he's following other people's orders like the PResident or Olimar, he half-asses it or just plain refuses to comply with anything he's told. But when he takes his own initiative, he becomes _unsettlingly_ good at getting a foothold and holding his own.
