Queen - '39 THROUGH THE YEARS (Brian May's song)

- Finally a Brian song, and what a gem it is.
I don't think it has ever gotten the recognition it deserves, but hopefully the current hype that the band regained will do the job (with a little help from me?).
Brian wrote the song, but Freddie was the one that sang it on concerts through the years. Don't kill me, but this specific song, in my opinion, sounds better with Brian's warm/soft voice.
listen to the Official if you haven't, and comment what you think.
Also, Roger's high vocals are basically heaven.

HELLO
Keep yourself alive, Brian!
@@kosi684 Brian May wrote the song Keep Yourself alive
At least!
I loved the detail of Young and old Rog making the same face expression
Ditto
Yes! The cheeky smile with the tongue out haha
Bra Brief love it!
Love that tongue!
Me too. I found that very touching.
"Your mother's eyes from your eyes crying to me"
That line is so haunting and heartbreaking
Remind me of "You have your mother's eyes"
"For my life still ahead pity me"
@@reel4751 you have your mothers eyes harry
@@glenchapman3899 same here i’m literally crying every time i hear this line
Bro it’s just a song, it’s not that deep
1:57 the same
So surprising and so cute😆
almost if they are smiling at each other
i’m crying 😭
@@sclway me too
So cute i love him so much
1:58 I cried a little. That little detail, Roger's grin... it makes me feel so enormously melancholic. So much time has passed and yet Brian and Roger still do what they do best. Let's cherish these guys while we still can. Long live Queen!
pure magic!
FOR SURE!!!!❤️
IT'S LIKE HE CAN SEE HIMSELF OHMYGOD I'M FUCKIN CRYING
Yes
I saw them live in 2018 and everyone tells me I didn’t see queen bc Freddie wasn’t there, idc, Roger and Bryan were just as important to the band as Freddie, that’s why they’re so great, each individual contributed their share to the collective greatness of the group
Reminded of Roger's song, "When I look, and I find, no change..."
@Moon the Wolf stupid gacha and stuff Yep :)
Roger did this again:
*When I look, and I find Brian May!*
thanks now im crying
Me too....I need a Brian hug
Haha.. Same:(
I don't need one........
Okay maybe I do..
ROG'S PART I'M CRYING
True:(

roger taylor Why am I laughing so hard? 😂 I can’t stop. Help.
lmaooo
😂😂😂
hahaha im bout to cry, thanks for making me laugh so hard at 3am lol
Omg young roger and old roger smiling in sinc!
Not to mention the perfectly synchronised tambourine beat.
The same little baby-faced grin!
Ahaha as roger would say "who is that handsome fellow over there?"
This whole video is top notch as usual. The pairing of Roger making the same expression decades apart was EXEMPLARY. Beautiful work.
OMG!
Roger and brian should see this video
Roger actually gives that smile in almost every version of this song, and there are tons of them.
is it just me. or does this song make me feel kinda sad but happy?
Nostalgia and futuristic at the same time. That's what it felt when it came out. The sense of that in this song is somehow much stronger today. I was in the concert in Toronto the other night, and almost everybody knew the words to this classic now. 5 years ago, not so much.
@@11matt11 The tune has strong folk influences, yet talks about space travel.
It's wistful and talks about ageing. The Sci-fi isn't important
Sci-fi is always important.
You're not alone
0:23 Roger's 'yeehaw' cracks me up every time 😂
its beautiful
YEEEEEEEE HAW
rOgAhh taYLaaH: yEEEEEEhAwwwwww 🤠🤠
Young rogah, old rogah. Just pure gold.
ROGAH, TOGETHER!
The comparison between the old Roger and the young Roger proves that somethings never change :)
1:59
Young roger: Hello old me!
Older roger: hello…wait is that Freddie?!
HAHAAAA 😅
_YES._ '39 has a special place in my heart. I've listened to A Night At The Opera hundreds of times, and this one always felt like a sad dream, a story you sing along and hum. Very underappreciated, and only now do I realize I had never heard a live version of it, so thank you!
You're welcome my friend.
This is one of my favorite, I understand you perfectly
This is one of the few times that I feel identified with someone else. In truth, I share your opinion.
@@jangofett5175 Queen music does that :P Take care!
1:59 it’s like they’re smiling at each other this is too much for me too handle 😍😭
This is so sweet I’m crying 😢
I remember being at Sheffield in 2005 when Brian sang it Even in later years he can still sing. Miss freddie.
2005, the year I was born.

@@happygirlleocatmusic in 2005 i was only 2 years old lmao
1:56 is everything! 💕
He’s so cute nothing changed! 💓
The cheeky young Rog smile is my favourite clip ever of him... and I love seeing it doubled up with the same grin 30+ years later. Great work, thank you so much!!!
Four great, exceptional musicians with the most adorable personalities. Freddie and Roger, the more playful, mischievous ones. Brian and John, the serious, reserved ones, who seem to be always amused by Freddie's and Roger's antics. A band 'made (and planned) in heaven'.
itsme 111 - OMG, someone actually acknowledged Deaky!!!!!! He was always my favorite and I've been a fan since the 70's. I prefer Brian singing this song as well.
@@susieq9801real G’s move in silence like lasagna, real ones know John was as important to the band as the other 3 and appreciate him for it
No one ever made playing a tambourine as sexy as Mr. Roger Meddows Taylor 1:00
He could make playing a kazoo sexy!😂
I'm thrilled the people of Great Britain finally voted Queen the greatest rock band in their country's history .
Long long overdue .
I kind of agree that Brian's voice suits it more than Freddie's.

Roger: YEeeHAaa!!!
I smiling so much 🥰🥰🥰
Update: I'm crying
Update again: I sobbed for another 12 minutes after this
What a mood
I know that feeling, my dear. This song touches my soul every time...
I feel sad Freddie is no longer with us. Beautiful song it sounded folksy or maybe Irish.
Oh my god, Rogers harmonies. Gets me every time.
Brian, your Father would be very proud, this is an amazing song.
I love how Roger is just jamming out in the background lol
1:01-1:08 I Can't 😍😍😍 Roger
actually is a chicken
Такой милый))))🤗😍😘
Absolutely lovely when Roger smiles at himself ”through the years”! Makes me smile and cry every time I see it 💜💜
This is the video nobody asked for but everyone needed 💗👏
WOW! I thought my comment was pretty good -- until I saw yours. ;o)
@@rickmemmer5625 thanks very much :)
@@ClaraMercury Quite welcome! And of course, I'm back again tonight for more! ;o)
1:57 I’m literally cryinggggggg
this made me sad coz back then they were 4 and at the end only 2 remained :(
Nice, but I really like it best sung by Brian... :)
Me too
Me three.
Me FOUR
I almost rather his voice over Freddie’s 😌
Yeah, i love this song
Me too! I prefer him singing "Too Much Love Will Kill You" too!
The recent one makes it sound like he’s talking to Freddie and now I’m cryinggggg
At the end it became really sad in a left picture: without Freddie...😪😫
and no deacon :(
1:59 Young and older Roger sending tongues to each other. I'm nearly the same age as Rog, and it's still as sexy now as it was in 1977
Love this song! Great video! The two Rogers looking at each other at 1:59 is incredible. When I saw Queen live in 1977 this was one of my favourite moments. The whole band at the front of the stage and Roger hitting the high notes. To listen to I prefer Brian's original version on Night at the Opera but Freddie in concert gives it a clap along, sing along vibe that only he can bring out. One of my favourite Bri songs.
I prefer Brian's version too.
I love rogers energy when the video started, he was really getting into that tambourine there and can we talk about Roger at 1:53, he looks so determined
what a trip down memory lane, always loved Roger's vocals and playfulness on stage. thank you for taking the time & effort to make this vid, and sharing it with us.
So beautiful. This song has poured deep into my soul, this past year. No one will understand how much " '39 " has guided me throughout this year. It doesn't have another human being connection for me. As no one I know has ever talked about this song. The singing is just everything. It's so profound.
Your edition was so amazing! Good job!
You can noticed that they hit the right notes every time. Fabulous band Queen!
I love this tune...thank you for this video...and the two Rogers with the same expression (and sticking out of the tongue!) - classic...
This is probably one of my favorite Queen songs!
I love this song.
In the year of '39 assembled here the volunteers
In the days when lands were few
Here the ship sailed out into the blue and sunny morn
The sweetest sight ever seen
And the night followed day
And the story tellers say
That the score brave souls inside
For many a lonely day sailed across the milky seas
Ne'er looked back, never feared, never cried
Don't you hear my call though you're many years away
Don't you hear me calling you
Write your letters in the sand
For the day I take your hand
In the land that our grandchildren knew
In the year of '39 came a ship in from the blue
The volunteers came home that day
And they bring good news of a world so newly born
Though their hearts so heavily weigh
For the earth is old and grey, little darling, we'll away
But my love this cannot be
For so many years have gone though I'm older but a year
Your mother's eyes, from your eyes, cry to me
Don't you hear my call though you're many years away
Don't you hear me calling you
Write your letters in the sand for the day I take your hand
In the land that our grandchildren knew
Don't you hear my call though you're many years away
Don't you hear me calling you
All your letters in the sand cannot heal me like your hand
For my life
Still ahead
Pity me
This is so amazing! This song has a special place in all of our hearts, and this displayed so smoothly! The transitions are amazing...and Roger smiling at Roger-I’m crying. The song sounds amazing with all of their voices. We miss you Freddie!
Brian May, so many great songs from You !
One of my favorite songs from A Night at the Opera. I saw them twice, in '80 & '82, got to hear a bit of it in '80 during the Game tour at Madison Square Garden. It's believed that was the only time it was played during the Game tour, at least on the US leg.
I have to stop crying at every other Brian May's song. (Like that's going to happen). Nice video ! Makes it even more heartbreaking
What a great video, thank you very much!!! One of my favorite Queen songs and I also love the original record where Brian sings :-)
And the moment with younger and older Roger, OMG!! Beautiful!!
Tal, Again, a GREAT job on editing, creating this video. Deaky (and you!) never let the beat drop once! Thank you 39 times and more.😉
IMPRESIONANTE APASALOBIEN TØS
Thanks a lot for Sir Brian May (Friendly from France)
This is priceless. I would press the like button a thousand times! ❤️

브라이언의 노래는 감미롭고 프레디의 노래는 파위풀하고 다 좋아요 .퀸은 무적의 함대입니다.❤❤❤❤❤
3:15 I love how Brian is just looking out into the audience with tears in his eyes. You can really tell how passionate he is about his music. 😢❤
Oh damn, I love this song. The editing is great! I whole ass cried
Roger is so cute I wanna squish him! When he does that same little grin in both young and older shots, it's obvious that he's always had a lot of fun with that song!
What a beautifully made video of one my favorite songs in the world. Great idea considering how much it means in the lyrics. Thank you so much for doing it. I'm really touched.
That was beautiful, Thank you for sharing it!!!
Let's just say two things here:
1) This is the best one-song mashup I've ever seen... and
2) '39 is the only song I know about relativity that ever charted. :-)
Oh my beautiful QUEEN! 😊
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Brian is my favorite musician, composer and just a good person.
What a great piece. New product THRILLING. OMG

this makes me so happy/emotional i can't find the right words for how much i love this
A fabulous song that,. I agree, never got nearly enough credit for being one of their best and most creative (musically, lyricly and vocall). Great video, thank you!
this video made me so happy
Roger ❤❤ esos agudos ,,,,,,, dios y esa sonrisa ya me derrito❤
Love your work Tal. Have you tried the same idea with Teo Torriatte? I only find footage of Freddie singing from Japan 1979 and 1982. His voice was failing but Roger saved it with his backups. Of course, Brian sings this in later years. Would love to see your version and maybe other footage you find. Thank you beautiful person!
Although Freddy was a very talented and expressive musician, I've always though Brian sings this song better than anyone--probably because he's one of the few people who really understands what it's actually about...
I haven’t cried to this song until today
Roger @ 2:00 .....one of the coolest dudes out there....
Great editing allows views from many different performances over the years. Really great video 💖💖
Except only a fraction of a second of Deaky. :( So what else is new?
Every time I play it I think of Peter, Paul & Mary.
I love the various photos and concerts...a real time travel and Brian indeed deserves the credit for writer. Always sweet to hear Brian's voice. Thanks for putting this together.
Thank You Very Much Queen...
This song is amazing, also with my dear Freddie singing and with my dear Roger doing the falsettos!!!!!! 😍❤💙💚💛💜💕
Awesome. I never heard of this one. I loved it.
queen is great.....and this is 1 song has been with me for over 40 yr since graduating from high school...ty brian and QUEEN
Great video, the image of the Rogers exchanging grins was brilliant. 👍👍
Fantastic work! These just make my day
I love how some people thank freddie sang 39' in the original song but it's actually Brian May
These guys are so great they can even make a country-sounding song sound amazing!
Thank you for this video ❤️ it's very interesting times 😊
I come back everyday to hear this
Amazing video! Thanks for including the clips you used.
