Very detailed Review and demonstration. And much enjoyed driving part, with great driving and views through the windscreen. Saying 'semi-autonomous' or whatever, is fine by me - you speak english better than me, and its my language, so who am I to say! I liked at 6:52 "Live testing on Autogefuhl… no shiny marketing stuff!" - too true - kudos. Live on tape Thomas.
Nice review. It's interesting reading the comments - people with clapped up Corsa and Fiestas commenting about the looks. It's such a lazy cliché to say it's ugly and other similar comments. Ugh. Come up with something original! I owned a 530d GT. For 3 years it was a great car then I needed to change cars because of a change of lifestyle 2 years ago I had the opportunity to buy a new car. I looked at the Porsche Panamera, Mercedes S class, Audio 8 whatever and the BMW 6 series, as well as the Lexus. But I needed a car that was sublimely comfortable, as well as practical. So I chose a BMW 6GT. It doesn't look like every car parked in every car park. It is unique and every person I've spoken to in real life have said what a stunning car it is. Looks aside, I have a back injury, so I needed a car that feels like a soft comfortable sofa. I live in Mid Wales in the mountains. There are no straight roads or motorways within 2 hours of me. Every road is a twisty, bendy mountain road. It is very agile and steers with precision and comfort. I hate when people try say this isn't a "sporty car". Yeah, you're right. It's a big, comfortable, luxurious family car. I don't want it to be "sporty" - whatever that means. I bought the 630d with an xDrive and handling on wet, icy twisty roads is amazing. I always feel secure. Fuel consumption in the mountains never dips below 43mpg. On the motorway I easily get 53mpg+, even once getting 55mpg. I picked nearly every extra option there was to pick, so I have things like rear wheel steering which is invaluable where I live. Also got remote parking, self parking etc. As far as I am concerned, there is no finer car that can match this for comfort, practicality, fuel consumption and honestly just sheer driving pleasure. Plus it's beautiful. I love the way mine looks. Thanks for your review. Hope everyone else who bought one loves it and everyone else considering one - just buy it. I promise you, you will love it
". It doesn't look like every car parked in every car park. " Then you never have visted Munich or any big city in southern Germany. Where a the latest 5 series or A6 is so common like sand on the beach. Sadly a 6GT don't stand out much here ^^
I bought a 2018 640i GT xDrive in the US in August. It is a big car as you say, but on a long trip it just goes. I returned 30.2 mpg on my last trip. Very happy with the mileage, power and ride quality. Over all very satisfied. Great in depth review!
I always found the BMW 6 GT an intriguing car, but I have to say I am more and more convinced it is a great choice. I wish there was an hybrid engine available, a 645e like there will be for the X5. Thank you autogefühl, you make the best reviews, always!
Yes, I never really took to the 6er GT either - but the later ones seem better looking... looking forward to watching 'Full Length'. Must get a cup of tea, and sit down and watch. Looking forward to see how that plays out! Many thanks Thomas.
Greg Sullivan Look at Toyota batteries. They last pretty much as long as the car. Batteries are not a problem. Automatic transmission, turbochargers, fuel injectors, etc. are though.
The best design ever. Sadly people sublimate their unfortunate lives with any kind of sporty / posh saloons. But this one - is indeed THE harmony. Definitely not for those i mentioned.

Try to manually lower the tailgate and then close it normally. Next time it opens up to the location you set it manually. i.e. you don't need to press any button for it to remember the previous setting.

I agree - I do think there is a little bit more leg room than the short wheelbase 7-series. Could the seats be a bit higher off the floor, which would make one's legs a bit more vertical, giving more room?
The 6 Series needs a redesign and it should get the BMW voice activation soon cause that's what makes the newer BMW's fun IMO. Great video Autogefühl team!
I didn‘t like the car first but when i drove i started to understand. It drives very well and offers more place than the 5 series, but handles better than suvs. Still i prefer my 540i, it‘s for sure sportier.

+Don Zonderson - I agree about ride, I test drove a new X4 and an X3, and found them too stiff, the ride too firm. The low speed ride around town especially, or on back roads, shook you up unnecessarily; the road surfaces around here are really poor, sunken man-hole covers and broken tarmac everywhere. I find the 5-series rides better, in my opinion.
Excelllent in depth review! I have a question. The instrument cluster looks different than the model I looked at in the US. The bezels around the speedometer and tach are larger (not 100% LCD) in your tester. Have they been changed, or is the model you tested simply different than the US 640i?

Not too fussed about hybrid - the small engines (2L petrol & diesel) are very efficient, and no expensive battery to replace.
