So, I just bought a TG-7 and watching this video again has helped me get to know my new camera, and hopefully result in some great pictures. I'm going to London later today, the perfect place to practise street photography. I also downloaded the expert guide which contains a wealth of useful information. Thanks Thomas!
Thank you very much, that is great to read - also great to hear that you like the expert guide. It will get a major update this year. Have fun with the TG in London, hope you'll like to shoot with it as much as I do! Best, Thomas 📸
Thanks Thomas, I am a Canon studio photographer, I took a Fuji X100F to Europe in 2019 but it was very hard to get a grip on the settings. Currently that camera is worth more than when I bought it. I purchased the TG-7 to provide an opportunity to shoot underwater glamour subjects. But your clear, concise presentation has given me the confidence to attempt street photography . I have never found a features presentation for a camera as detailed and easily understood as yours has been. It was excellent from beginning to end. Thank you very much. Andrew Greig, Melbourne, Australia
Hi mate, so I have a Fuji X100v which I do love (picture quality is great) but actually can be overwhelming. I've just bought a TG7 mainly for macro but looks a great little camera for street photography and going back to basics. How have you found using it so far?
Got my TG-7 yesterday after deliberating for what seemed so long, but in reality is probably only a few weeks. It's nice, it's not the ultimate device but is most probably the ultimate compromise. All the points you make are so right, all the hints and tips you make are so useful. This is a camera I had never considered until a month ago but I am certainly pleased to have it, a very easy carry too. I have mine set up as per all the settings in your vid, including C1 and C2 :-). The menu being a slimmed down version of others from "O", make using it a breeze. Thanks.
I agree - it is the ultimate compromise. It does everything just good enough. And if you put in some extra work and practice, the results are quite astounding. Thanks for the positive feedback, I'm glad my vids were helpful. Please keep me updated how your journey with the TG-7 goes! Best, Thomas
Yet another excellent video: organized, clear, logical, and very helpful! I've had three TG cameras starting with the first TG-1 and now have a TG-6. I sold my TG-4 to a friend who used it on a trip to India specifically because of it's small size and unassuming appearance. He was able to get amazing photos and video with no one noticing him. Thanks for highlighting this often overlooked camera.
Many thanks - thanks for sharing your feedback and your experiences, great to read. If you know how to use those TGs, they are spectacular tools - we are on the same page here 📸
Great tips! I'm sure you're aware of the AF Lock feature, but for new users I'll point out that pressing the shutter 1/2 way then pressing the OK button locks the AF at your target. You can then adjust the AF point with the Up/Down buttons on the 4 way controller. Essentially this is a Manual Focus using AF to lock on your distant target and also allows you to adjust the distance.
I have had a TG-6 for some time now and thought I knew all about it. Thanks to this video I have learned new tips which will make it more useful for street photography. Thanks very much for this video.
Although I'm a beginner I think by now I'm informed enough to know that this camera would be a good investment for years to come. But the many options also intimidated me. While I don't get everything you're trying to explain in this video yet, if I just follow your instructions I feel I should be able to get started shooting freely while letting the camera do most of the work for me. Then as time goes on I can always dive deeper into the specifics. I think I'm sold on the TG-7 as my first digital camera now. Thank you very much!
I bought a TG-4 for its “tough” capabilities but was subsequently blown away by its image-capturing ability. I have no doubt that the TG-7 is even better.
Many thanks for sharing that! The TG-7 is really capable, and I love it to bits. Unfortunately, I do not have a TG-4 to compare it to at the moment, but the 12 MP sensor on the 7 should deliver better low light performance.
Great work. This is the most clear, concise and useful camera tutorial I've ever seen. My only issue--with your 3-finger hold and hand gestures I kept expecting the camera to go flying.
Thank you very much! Well, if it did fly off, it would probably survive as it is a Tough series model haha Thanks again for the positive feedback and for subscribing!
Thank you again for another video Thomas, you’ve given me enthusiasm and confidence to go out and try my TG6 for street photography now, and I’ll definitely be checking my out your pro settings download, you are a great teacher.
Hello Thomas, I just found your channel while looking for TG-7 videos, as I'm considering to buy it, and I'm glad I discovered a great reviewer. Clear, logical and very helpful. Thanks for the hints, your way to expose all details makes it easy to learn and remember. I think I'm going for the TG-7 for its versatility since I guess I can easily carry it for my bike rides, for a walk down the streets and on the beach here in Sardinia, where I live. Well, kudos for your channel, already subscribed of course 🙂
Thank you very much for the feedback! I can wholeheartedly recommend the TG-7, I personally use it a lot, I've got it with me every day, actually. I'm pretty sure you'll like it as much as I do. Thanks for subscribing and welcome to the channel! Best, Thomas 📸
Good job Thomas. I think I am going to purchase this camera (Black version) for travel. I like the fact that it is small and strudy. It will allow me to store my phone safely into my backpack and conserve my phone battery. The camera is so small and thin, I will be able to carry it under my jacket or a wind breaker, with a small lanyard on my left shoulder and the camera across in front of me on the right side ready to reached
Servus Thomas... I just ordered this camera today. I am planning on taking it for our Europe trip next week. Thankyou for your insperational videos. And I bought your guide too. And I spent some money on your recommended accesories. LOL! We are planning on Christmas Markets and I am hoping it will do good with low light market images..
Hi Thomas. Thank you for a very helpful video. I am looking forward to using the tg-7 for street photography at the local fruit and vegetable markets (in Cairns, Australia) I usually feel uncomfortable doing this, but I think because the tg-7 is unobtrusive and does not look like a big serious camera, it should be easier to get candid photos of people without upsetting anybody.
I mainly use an x100v but I’ve just bought the TG7 for macro, documenting and street. Very handy video, I love how this camera just makes you want to take it with you everywhere and start shooting. It’s almost a going back to basics camera that makes you think more about composition rather than worrying about settings. I also I love that it might make me be less picky about final image quality and just enjoy shooting again. Thanks again. Would love to see more videos on the TG7. Subbed
Now Olympus, make something in the same line with fixed focal length(preferably 28mm) to compete against Ricoh GR- Fujifilm X100V- Leica Q⚡️💥 Make it water/dust resistant and pocket friendly. With the toughness from the Tough series and the beauty from the Pen-F series. It will be successful🤞🥇
What would you recommend out of this camera the om5 and the richoh GR. I’m looking for a beginner camera I can grow with. I mostly do street photography but would like it able to branch into night photography.
I own the TG-5 and I can see that little has changed. TG-6 have a higher resolution LCD screen. TG-7 changed to USB-C. All essential part like the lens, sensor and image processor are still the same. Couldn't find anything to justify an upgrade. Still find it a very useful camera.
Utterly superb and concise video. A real refreshing watch compared to the usual reviews that people post. Great to see the on-screen demonstrations on actual setting changes. Keep up the excellent Channel 👍
Ok Thomas, as you already persuaded me that OM Workplace is a good product, it could be that I'll use TG as companion during walking days in mine or other towns, not only during diving session. As usually, yours are precious (and inexpensive) suggestions. My TG-5 is not as good as TG-7 is, but acceptable. Thank you, Thomas. Sergio from Milano
I'm sure you will have a lot of fun with it - at least I always have 👍📸 I'd say the 5 is fine and it will get you the same shots - as you are a skilled photographer!
Hi Thomas another excellent video. I’ve been using my TG-5 for a few years now as an everywhere pocket carry. Thanks for the extra tips and setting recommendations. Unlike the last comment I cannot use a cell phone for photography, and the TG does many things that no phone can do, Marco photography, rain, extreme cold, underwater and ProCapture just to name a few. I have to update my TG-5 firmware, it’s minor but I cannot set shutter speed. Tschuss from central Georgian Bay, Ontario, Canada.
Thanks for the feedback and for sharing your experiences. As we both know, the TG is far more capable and allows you to do many things not possible with a cellphone. The Tough series is probably the only real "take everywhere" camera, as it can operate under all circumstances and is small enough to fit in a shirt's pocket. A must have if you can't live without a camera, I'd say. 📸 Thanks again!
Damn. Now I want one. Was saving for a Panasonic G9M2 when the DJI Pocket 3 hit. Immediate buy. And now the TG-7. I think a TG-7/Pocket 3 combo would be the perfect street stills/video combination. I'm already running out of pockets. That G9M2 is now on hold.
I'm sorry haha - but really, I'd say it is a good idea to get one. It is very capable, pocketable (so as long as there is at least one pocket remaining...) and a lot of fun. Most likely the camera you will truly bring everywhere. And that alone opens up a lot of possibilities.
got a tg-7 for testing and your guide is outstanding. i'm going to the wildlife rescue station regularly to help out. used my pen-f ... but to catch the most out of the swans ... lol... i need a waterproof workhorse to throw around. will test it tomorrow with a proper setup.
Thank you very much for the simple and clear instructions for using the camera. I have always taken photos with a SLR camera and it was difficult for me to switch to a small monkey that makes holidays easier. Your video makes it much easier.
I’ve had two Ricoh GRs break from light use (and in a half case) and a third had dust in the sensor within a month. The Tough produces terrific images, is cheaper and is completely care free
Hey Thomas one thing I found by accident was that if you are in multi-focus point mode and face priority if you push and hold the OK button it will do its best to frame and lock onto a face, it remains locked after you take your thumb off too.
Hi this video is great I was not aware of iso-Auto set I have changed these settings on my old em1 mark 2 but I do wish that Olympus made a weatherproof camera with a larger sensor even a 1 inch because of the improved image quality I like the idea of the tg7,I think Olympus missed a trick with the pen e-p7 this should be waterproof with custom settings
Thank you again Thomas for a clear and straightforward and useful tutorial. Thank you for producing the guide, I have bought it and look forward to using it. David :-)
I was going to ask about battery saving by having the in body stabilization set to Only When Shooting, as opposed to Continuous, but have no idea if these settings are available. Having a number of Canon 310 HS cameras much of this tutorial is like going over my camera, except for being able to set minimum shutter speed and things of that nature. Naturally over time one learns to figure out ways to get things done. Back then the canon didn't have exposure comp for video, but pocket Fujis did. But the Fujis back then didn't have IBIS. I will say with the 8x zoom on the Canon, the IBIS is still very good. And that's amazing for such an old camera. One thing I like to do is set the camera for cloudy days. Interior shots can be improved enormously. Not all of them, but a LOT. But watching this, having the manual focus and peaking is excellent. Looks like Live Composite is a great asset too. Ever think you need a lens hood for it?
The TG6 and 7 are identical sensors and lens. So this video is really helpful for both cameras. I been running maximum ISO at 800 for 2 years on the TG6 doing street photography but will try 6400. I carry a power bank with me and when I not using the TG6 i have it on charge. The TG6 also is the only camera that fits in my Vespa's glovebox and i have a usb port in the vespa. GPS i leave on, it doesn't seem to effect the power much. Olympus cameras are still not supported by Lightroom so i convert raw to jpeg in OM workspace and then finish the edit off in Topaz or Lightroom or Nik effects silver.
Very impressed with the purchase-able guide you have made for this camera, Thomas - it is full of interesting detail which, as you say, is not available in the official manual or other books. That is great and a real feast for technical enthusiasts :-) David🙂
Hi Thomas. Thank you for this video. Food for thought, for those who actually bought your guide (and support your work), it would be great if you included all the recommendations provided herein in said guide. It's easier to have it all in writing! My two cents. 🙂
Hey there! I am very thankful for your feedback. The recommendations are indeed included - but not explicitly in a setup section. I consider adding tips to the respective sections in the guide. Thanks a again, best Thomas
Thank you for doing this, Thomas! Most interesting. One feature I always use with my E-M1's is the don't reset lens feature. This means I can pre-focus at between 1m to 2.5m and if I turn the camera off then back on again (to preserve power), that distance is always remembered/recalled. I guess in manual mode on the TG-7 by pre-focussing, the TG-7 remembers the distance set without resetting to infinity? I'm still saving for a TG-7, having just purchased a Ricoh GR3. But I definitely want a TG-7 (or an OM-5. Or both!)
Awesome, thanks for the feedback! The good news: With the current FW, the TG does not reset the lens when it goes to sleep (unlike almost any other compact). Only when the camera turns off/is turned off it resets completely. You should definitely get all of those, all are excellent tools. Thanks for tempting me to get the GR - a camera I've always been keen on trying out 📸 gotta start saving as well!
Great review of the camera! I’m not a street photographer but this camera with its water and dust resistant features might be a good option for environments that might cause damage to my phone. 😊👍
Hello Thomas, Thank you for this video and all the videos on the TG7, it was a decisive factor for me to buy this camera. I was esitating with the new W90 but for my usage the TG7 is the best. It's lighter than my Zfc or Fm2n, it is robust I can use it without being worried during hiking. And I don't care about the resoution of the photos, I am coming from analog (35mm and half frame) and I am not printing larger than 8x10. I have the feeling that people are searching for a camera the size of the TG7 but with the capability of larger models and are hoping that technology will make them better photographer... I only wish the TG7 was able to give the idea of the focal lenght when zooming rather than showing a 1.0x but I can survive without that :)
Wow, that's amazing - thanks for sharing. I hope you will like the TG-7 as much as I do. 12MP is plenty, if you know what you are doing and you certainly do. Keep me in the loop how you like the camera and let me know if I can help you with anything! Best, Thomas 📸 PS: it also took me a while to get used to the "zoom factor" display hehe
@@ThomasEisl.Photography By the way did you have a favorite art filter for your photos within all the simulations provided by the system ? Monochrome or Grainy film I/II ?
I liked the recommendation to use Program mode with auto ISO. Sometimes you need to know when the camera can do things better than you and allow it to do so. Rather than having an arrogant or snobbish attitude as some people seem to. As far as the fake shutter sound, I definitely agree with having it off for street photography. But I’d really like to see OM do the same as what Nikon did with the Z8, and allow us to have a shutter sound for electronic shutter. I use the silent mode pretty much all the time and I do miss the sound sometimes.
Many thanks - I completely agree. It takes a while to accept the fact that the camera can do certain things just faster and more convenient. At the end of the day, it is about getting the shot and having fun while doing so. Regarding the fake shutter sound - yes, it would definitely be a useful addition especially when photographing people. Although Nikon raised a few eyebrows when implementing that, it is actually a sensible feature.
Hello Thomas, I just got your expert guide for TG-7, but honestly I'm a bit disappointed because it is not a guide on how to use the camera and utilize the various shooting modes to get the best results, but more a review of how it does what it does.. I was hoping for a guide aimed for amateurs showing them how to best use it..
Hello Ivan, I'm sorry to read that. The guide is really intended to get the last 10% out of the TG and go beyond what the manual tells you. Maybe the guide does not appear as being very useful at the moment, but I hope that you'll find the information valuable in the future. Feel free to follow up via e-mail, if you'd like. Apologies again that it is not the right publication for your needs. Best, Thomas
Insightful video Thomas. Until I watched this video, I never considered getting a TG-7, mainly because of its small 1/2.3"sensor and my concerns about image quality in less than perfect lighting conditions. What is your opinion on that? I have a Panasonic LX100 ii for street photography. It's a lovely little camera in many ways, but it's not quite as pocketable nor is it weather resistant.
Thanks, happy to hear! Your question is quite "tough" to answer, as it really depends on your personal tolerance for noise. In my full review, I address the IQ/noise in greater detail, so maybe this will be of interest: ruclips.net/video/ZOmk5WFdf9c/видео.htmlsi=5EJEvVtBjlBpWJtz
i am intend to buy it for landscape and street photography also planning to send the images to some competition. my biggest confusion is the image quality is sufficient for photography competition ?
Hello. I recently discovered your videos on the TG-7 and was tempted to buy this camera. Your videos are very informative. But in detail, I'm having trouble understanding how the camera works, and nothing is explained in the official documentation. For example, why, in A mode, does the aperture change from 2.8 to 8, or from 5.6 to 18 - with no intermediate values? Why, in construction mode (document), is the preview automatically enlarged 2 times, which doesn't allow proper framing of the document to be photographed? Etc. There are many obscure, undocumented points. Couldn't you make a video explaining these modes of operation? Thank you.
Practically everything except the construction mode is covered in great detail in my expert guide, available via the link. Also, if you like, I can help you directly, just shoot me an email and we schedule an appointment. Best, Thomas 📸
Thank you! Oh wow, that is really neat - next time get in touch when you are around. Shoot me an email with your Westbahnhof art, would love to see which one is yours! Best, Thomas 📸
Im sorry, when you introduce about this little compact form camera. I could not help but wonder what camera that you used to record the video. The quality and color grading is really really good. Your video looks natural and cinematic at the same time.
This is a tempting camera. I see you're shooting some black and white. Did you use a jpeg profile from the camera or is this post? Can you adjust any of the profile settings such as contrast or do you just get to pick the pre-determined profile?
It definitely is, thanks for the comment. I used a JPEG profile of the camera, and yes, you can adjust all those parameters, even the gradation and even the local dynamic range compression. Best, Thomas 📸
I love the jacket Thomas! I have thought abut a TG for a few years but I love my Fuji X30, also good for street and macro - and can't really justify buying another compact. Focus bracketing could sway me ... one day maybe. For people who suggest a phone instead ... what about the size of the lens? I mean the diameter, not the length. How much light does a phone gather, compared with a quality compact?
Thank you very much! I completely agree, comparing the TG with a phone is a bit strange, to say the least. The most impressive feature is that the TG has this focal length range but the lens does not extend when zooming - which is great in practice. And yes, your X30 is a great camera! Everyone needs at least one compact in their lives. 📸
Thank you very much! I have not published a video about those, but they are on my list (which is very long, unfortunately). The short version: They are optically outstanding - hence the price tag. But well justified.
Further power saving can be achieved by ensuring the log switch on top left hand side is switched off. Also go to menu>cog wheel>G and switch off GPS location
For those who don't need the waterproof features what would be the reason to choose this camera over the sony zv 1? Sony gives you a hotshoe, a brighter lens at f1.8 wide lens a 1 inch sensor
I had a ZV-1 for a long time, excellent camera. Some comments why you might want a TG instead: way faster boot up (no lens to extend) which is awesome for street and snaps. Lint-proof lens and therefore truly pocketable. Nonetheless, the ZV is of course excellent 👍
@@ThomasEisl.Photography I have an old Olympus XZ-1 camera, and I love it. I don't know why they didn't continue this product line beyond the XZ-2. I like the color output it produces. It has a bright 1.8-2.5 lens and a larger CCD sensor than its competitors. It even has sensor-shift stabilization, a hot shoe, and a built-in flash. I think this camera is better than the Sony ZV-1 in every way except for Sony's leading autofocus and video capabilities. But for still picture quality, I think it's better. I really need a modern replacement that is as good as the XZ-1.
Thanks for the review! However, I still have some questions if you don't mind: 1) Can you mount any filter (It seems you have one mounted)? 2) Are the pictures you show postprocessed or SOOC? Is there a B&W mode? Thanks in advance.
Most welcome! 1) yes you can mount filters, with the CLA-T01 accessory. I've got a video about that and other accessories for the TG you can check out 2) The basic processing was done in camera, with slight color grading added on top. The TG has several BW modes, including two excellent film simulations which even add grain. Best, Thomas 📸
Excellent video and extremely informative. Is there any way to get the camera to start up at a set focal length. The TG-7 by default powers on at 1.0x. Could it be set to zoom to say 1.4x at power on?
Thank you very much! When the camera powers down (turns off completely) the zoom setting is back to 1x BUT when the camera goes to sleep, everything stays the same. That is so beneficial for street photography, I love that. Hope this helps!
I'm getting a TG-7 very soon and I can't wait to get started with it. This video is extremely helpful and I'm also going to check out the user guide. This is an independent comment - I'm not connected to Thomas Eisl in any way.
Dankeschön! Aktuell leider nicht. Ich stehe allerdings jederzeit bereit um speziellen Informations- und Schulungsbedarf maßgeschneidert auf Deutsch abzudecken. Beste Grüße, Thomas 📸
Maybe a silly question, but how can I close the lense lid? Is this possible? So the lense stays clean. Thank you in advance! Or do you need a lens cap?
Can I ask the minimum still image resolution this camera can capture ? I need a tough camera for work purposes that captures landscape 640x480 resolution, but there seems to be nearly no cameras on the market that fit this requirement.
I just subscribed now. I have a question, I followed your guide to set up my TG-6 on “P” mode and min Shutter speed at 1/250 sec. All done. When I take a photo, the TG-6 chose shutter 1/8 sec and the image is blurry and out of focus. I have AUOTO ISO set to Max 800. What am I doing wrong not to have shutter speed locked at 1/250, as I did in the Settings ?
Thanks for subscribing! Here is the problem: you set an ISO limit which is too low for the camera to maintain the fast shutter speed for the lighting conditions. Set a higher ISO limit, as the camera will eventually use slower shutter speeds when it can't raise the ISO anymore! Hope this helps More information on the control curves is to be found in the expert guide, btw.
Hi Thomas, Thanks for this brilliant video!! The Olympus/OM TG series can become great EDC cameras only if they upgrade the sensor to APS-C. Right now the sensor is too small for any serious photography. They also need to upgrade to a faster lens, may be a prime lens actually. The TG series is in the 7th edition and still doesn't have any real updates from the past 2-3 editions. They should try doing what Ricoh is doing with the GR-iii. Its a brilliant street photography camera. best regards -Tejas
Thank you! You definitely should check out my Instagram. I've even photographed international models with this one - so the IQ is really not bad hehe 😀 Best, Thomas 📸
Alexander, wenn das Teleshopping wäre, würde ich nun sagen: I'm glad that you asked! Also, Spaß bei Seite, für mich geht es um Handling, Menu, Objektiv, Engine und natürlich auch eine Grundsatzentscheidung mit was man arbeitet. Vielleicht hast du ja mein full review schon gesehen, da spreche ich vieles an: ruclips.net/video/ZOmk5WFdf9c/видео.htmlsi=yPDkBcdBXPZeXk-Q
@@ThomasEisl.
Hi thomas. I do street photography in vienna myself :) unfortunately I think the tough series really sucks for street photography. dont get me wrong I use olympus cameras for street photography as with m43 sensor you get great dof and its very small but with the tough series one looks like a creep a bit doing street photography. the sensor is small so in low light it gets immediately destroyed and adjusting settings is not as simple as on other cameras. but as an everyday pocket camera the tough series is great. in comparison to griii they are dust proof, have zoom and graeat makro too. I really wish it had at least a 1 inch sensor and video capabilities. if it had a 1 inch sensor, some zoom range and 10bit 4k video in log i think it would sell so crazy you wouldnt be able to buy it :D
Thanks for sharing your opinion on this one! Very much appreciated! I'd like to follow up on this one: I'd say that in photography, it is important not to fight the tool (like the lack of direct access to some settings) but to use it as intended by the designers - and the TG has for example excellent exposure program automation (so do many Olympus cameras). Very handy for street - more about those in my expert guide. Regarding Image quality, low light performance - that's of course subjective what you are willing to tolerate, but it also depends on you shooting style (and how low you are willing to go SS wise - I'm used to shoot ISO400 film so I can live with that). Last but not least, I personally don't worry about how I look during street photog., it is all about getting the shot. I've pulled quite the freak stunts to get the shot in the past haha - so it's already too late for me to care about that. Anyway, maybe you want to watch this one: ruclips.net/video/D1ezetEALk0/видео.htmlsi=4RLEtwXdKf6sU1wg Thanks again, cool to have a fellow street photog from Vienna here - get in touch via insta!
Absolutely! You can find my full review here - I highlight all the camera's capabilities in detail. There is a lot that differentiates this capable tool from a phone: ruclips.net/video/ZOmk5WFdf9c/видео.htmlsi=B8FSa2vm6fctjVFo Are you considering getting a TG-7?
Auto mode applies various corrections and that is what you see here, I think. If you set exactly the same parameters, the JPEG will look the same. Auto mode is awesome, but the camera takes control and maybe the automatic corrections do not fit your artistic intentions. Apart from that, it is totally fine to use it!

Hi mate, so I have a Fuji X100v which I do love (picture quality is great) but actually can be overwhelming. I've just bought a TG7 mainly for macro but looks a great little camera for street photography and going back to basics. How have you found using it so far?

Another outstanding episode! You have one of the best channels, thank you.
Wow, thank you! That's great to read!
Thanks for bringing this up here - this is indeed a very nice feature.
Awesome! Many thanks for the tip!
Time to put TG-7 into street photography arsenal now!!
You definitely should - it is a fun and capable camera!
I have had a TG-6 for some time now and thought I knew all about it. Thanks to this video I have learned new tips which will make it more useful for street photography. Thanks very much for this video.
Great to read! Best, Thomas 📸
Thank you for your excellent series of videos about the TG7.
Glad you like them!
Great work. This is the most clear, concise and useful camera tutorial I've ever seen. My only issue--with your 3-finger hold and hand gestures I kept expecting the camera to go flying.
Thank you very much!
Well, if it did fly off, it would probably survive as it is a Tough series model haha
Thanks again for the positive feedback and for subscribing!
Thank you again for another video Thomas, you’ve given me enthusiasm and confidence to go out and try my TG6 for street photography now, and I’ll definitely be checking my out your pro settings download, you are a great teacher.
Awesome, thank you very much!
Thank you. I now feel far more confident with my TG-7
Great to hear - you should definitely do that! I'd love to see the results, so get in touch once your project has come to fruition.
Subbed
Thank you for the feedback and for sharing your valuable perspective! Completely agree 👍
Now Olympus, make something in the same line with fixed focal length(preferably 28mm) to compete against Ricoh GR- Fujifilm X100V- Leica Q⚡️💥
Make it water/dust resistant and pocket friendly. With the toughness from the Tough series and the beauty from the Pen-F series.
It will be successful🤞🥇
Yes! And in the meantime, the TG-7 will fulfill that role 📸
the XA Street Digital ;)
What would you recommend out of this camera the om5 and the richoh GR. I’m looking for a beginner camera I can grow with. I mostly do street photography but would like it able to branch into night photography.
Just set your TG-7 to 28mm (equivalent) and leave it there.
@@ramensan3736I think GR would work better because bigger sensor
I own the TG-5 and I can see that little has changed. TG-6 have a higher resolution LCD screen. TG-7 changed to USB-C. All essential part like the lens, sensor and image processor are still the same. Couldn't find anything to justify an upgrade. Still find it a very useful camera.
Thanks for sharing!
Utterly superb and concise video. A real refreshing watch compared to the usual reviews that people post. Great to see the on-screen demonstrations on actual setting changes. Keep up the excellent Channel 👍
Much appreciated! Thank you very much. Best, Thomas 📸
Thanks again!
Excellent presentation filled with much relevant info. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you very much, great to hear!
got a tg-7 for testing and your guide is outstanding. i'm going to the wildlife rescue station regularly to help out. used my pen-f ... but to catch the most out of the swans ... lol... i need a waterproof workhorse to throw around. will test it tomorrow with a proper setup.
Thank you very much, that is great to read!
I hope your shoot worked as planned, I'd love to see how it turned out!
Best, Thomas
I recently got mine and I'm in love with this camera, your video was a important reason to buy it, certainly. Thank you for this kind of content.
Your feedback means a lot - I'm very happy to hear that you like the TG as much as I do! It is an excellent & fun tool!
Thank you very much for the simple and clear instructions for using the camera. I have always taken photos with a SLR camera and it was difficult for me to switch to a small monkey that makes holidays easier. Your video makes it much easier.
Glad it was helpful!
I’ve had two Ricoh GRs break from light use (and in a half case) and a third had dust in the sensor within a month. The Tough produces terrific images, is cheaper and is completely care free
Yes, the GRs are very cool but the extending lenses are a weak point. The TGs are care free indeed! Best, Thomas 📸
I had been eyeing this cam for a while but I wasn’t sure of getting it. I have vacations coming and now I am definitely getting one
You won't regret the purchase, it is really a capable, fun to use camera - love mine!
I JUST visited Vienna two days ago and I loved seeing your take on it.
Great to read
Just had my new TG7 delivered so this video is perfect timing. Thank you 👍
Oh that's cool! Thanks for sharing, I hope you enjoy the camera as much as I do 📸
Great video: clear, concise, insightful .
Much appreciated!
Hey Thomas one thing I found by accident was that if you are in multi-focus point mode and face priority if you push and hold the OK button it will do its best to frame and lock onto a face, it remains locked after you take your thumb off too.
Hey, thanks for sharing. However, I can't really replicate your finding or I am doing something wrong. Could you please elaborate? Best, Thomas
Excellent video
Thank you very much!
Thank you for a very clear and easy to follow guide to setting up the TG,mine happens to be a 5 but your explanations work perfectly.
That is great to hear! Those Tough cameras are truly something.
Thanks for your perspective!
Bought your Expert Guide--Excellent!
Thank you very much! That is great to read. Best, Thomas 📸
Thank you again Thomas for a clear and straightforward and useful tutorial. Thank you for producing the guide, I have bought it and look forward to using it. David :-)
Also, thanks again here! Thanks for purchasing and the great feedback!
Can you make a quick video for the geo settings?? Or where can I see that. I am a visual learner.
you took some really great pictures with this camera
Thank you very much!
Thanks!
There is a lens hood available for the TG - watch my video on TG accessories. Best, Thomas
Great! Btw, Silkypix is also an excellent tool for TG-files. Best, Thomas 📸
@@ThomasEisl.Photography Thanks, did not know about Silkypix, will do a 30 day free trial and see how it performs
Very impressed with the purchase-able guide you have made for this camera, Thomas - it is full of interesting detail which, as you say, is not available in the official manual or other books. That is great and a real feast for technical enthusiasts :-) David🙂
Many thanks for the feedback! That is so great to read. I'm already working on a huge update - you will be notified and get a free download link!
thanks for sharing. I have a tg6. I will try the setting and see how it goes.
Awesome!
Thank you - completely agree!
Here is my full review, by the way: ruclips.net/video/ZOmk5WFdf9c/видео.html
Excellent video Thomas, really well explained and happy to be a new subscriber
Welcome aboard! Thanks!
In the Shooting Menu 1, there is a line called Easy CALS. 3 options. Off, CALS, and CALS H.
Ah, that is for the construction modes - please refer to the manual, it is explained there.
This is great advice for any capable pocket camera. I'm taking notes to transfer & apply to my Canon G7Xii! ;)
Great! Excellent cam by the way. I'm working on a compact camera shooting tips video (mid-term).
Best, Thomas 📸
PS: it also took me a while to get used to the "zoom factor" display hehe
@@ThomasEisl.Photography By the way did you have a favorite art filter for your photos within all the simulations provided by the system ? Monochrome or Grainy film I/II ?
What a simple but good tutorial. Btw, what camera you use for PoV??
At the moment an Insta360 X4 or the Ace Pro. But you can also do that with the TG-7, also very capable in that regard.
The Olympus TG-4 is still my photographic ‘daily carry’. I can also transfer images to my iPhone easily with it! 📸🇨🇦😎👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻✌🏻🙏🏻
The TG series is really awesome!
Very helpful information, since just purchased tg7 thanks
Very cool, thanks for sharing!
In my full review, I address the IQ/noise in greater detail, so maybe this will be of interest:
ruclips.net/video/ZOmk5WFdf9c/видео.htmlsi=5EJEvVtBjlBpWJtz
I just got the tg-7. I also own an lx100 Ii. I’ll do some comparative tests
Are the pictures better than the iPhone? Im looking for a point and shoot camera that can beat my iPhone. Thanks!
i am intend to buy it for landscape and street photography also planning to send the images to some competition. my biggest confusion is the image quality is sufficient for photography competition ?
@@ThomasEisl.Photography Hello. I contacted you via your website. I didn't get any answer.

Excellent video thanks so much
Very welcome.
Im sorry, when you introduce about this little compact form camera. I could not help but wonder what camera that you used to record the video. The quality and color grading is really really good. Your video looks natural and cinematic at the same time.
Thank you very much - for this video, it was the Sony ZV-1.
Hello Thomas, How do you set RAW?
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Hi Thomas.
Can you please explain what CALS is?
Sorry, I'm not familiar with that acronym.
📸
Olympus needs to make a street compact version of the TG series.
Yeah, the black one is already a bit "streety" at least
Excellent! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Concise and thorough !! Do you have a video that details the accesory lenses for the TG-7 ( FCON-T01Fisheye Converter and TCON-T01 Tele Converter ) ??
Thank you very much!
I have not published a video about those, but they are on my list (which is very long, unfortunately). The short version: They are optically outstanding - hence the price tag. But well justified.
Great video, now subscribed 👍🏻
Thank you very much & welcome to the channel!
Further power saving can be achieved by ensuring the log switch on top left hand side is switched off. Also go to menu>cog wheel>G and switch off GPS location
Excellent tip!
I've got a video about that and other accessories for the TG you can check out
2) The basic processing was done in camera, with slight color grading added on top. The TG has several BW modes, including two excellent film simulations which even add grain.
Best, Thomas 📸
@@ThomasEisl.PhotographyThank you Thomas, that is super helpful 🙂
@eric_festinger great!
@@ThomasEisl.Photography That's useful, thanks very much! It would still be nice to set a default focal length in settings.
I'm getting a TG-7 very soon and I can't wait to get started with it. This video is extremely helpful and I'm also going to check out the user guide.
This is an independent comment - I'm not connected to Thomas Eisl in any way.

Excellent video. You just forgot one point of advice: get a black TG :-)
Thank you!
You're welcome!
New sub here, thanks a lot.
Thanks for the sub!
Compared with a GoPro hero 5 black, this one is an improvement? It's justified?
Although I have no Hero 5 to make a direct comparison, the TG is also very capable photo camera, as it has the necessary features and controls.
Maybe a silly question, but how can I close the lense lid? Is this possible? So the lense stays clean. Thank you in advance! Or do you need a lens cap?
Not a silly question at all - you need an LB-T01 lens cap, which I would recommend getting. Best, Thomas 📸
Can I ask the minimum still image resolution this camera can capture ?
I need a tough camera for work purposes that captures landscape 640x480 resolution, but there seems to be nearly no cameras on the market that fit this requirement.
I'll reply to your other comment shortly!
Hope this helps
More information on the control curves is to be found in the expert guide, btw.
Awesome thanks
Welcome 😊
Hi Thomas,
Thanks for this brilliant video!!
Its a brilliant street photography camera.
best regards
-Tejas
Thank you!
You definitely should check out my Instagram. I've even photographed international models with this one - so the IQ is really not bad hehe 😀

I really wish it had at least a 1 inch sensor and video capabilities. if it had a 1 inch sensor, some zoom range and 10bit 4k video in log i think it would sell so crazy you wouldnt be able to buy it :D
also i hope one day olympus allows manual focus with given distance on the screen because I hate the MF implementation although i love olympus
Thanks for sharing your opinion on this one! Very much appreciated! I'd like to follow up on this one:
I'd say that in photography, it is important not to fight the tool (like the lack of direct access to some settings) but to use it as intended by the designers - and the TG has for example excellent exposure program automation (so do many Olympus cameras).

Thanks!
Thank you very much!
Is the Olympus TG7 better than using your phone camera ?
Absolutely! You can find my full review here - I highlight all the camera's capabilities in detail. There is a lot that differentiates this capable tool from a phone: ruclips.net/video/ZOmk5WFdf9c/видео.htmlsi=B8FSa2vm6fctjVFo
Are you considering getting a TG-7?
how do i save settings to the C1 and C2? every time i turn off my camera it resets them even though im on C1
Please refer to the expert guide or the camera's manual.
Hi thomas why does picture from auto look better than A or P mode.
@@ThomasEisl.Photography Oh right thank you thomas will try.
What’s the fish icon for? Underwater mode‽
Yes!
how do I change the aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9 for photos??
You can do that in the live control menu. Just press ok and you'll find it in the menu band on the right. Best Thomas 📸
Tomas how do we use live cop
You mean with the TG or in general?
