It's still going strong. One of the great points about this case, aside from it's cooling capacity, is that it's modular, so when panels started started showing signs of age related wear and tear, you could just order a new one direct from CM. Unfortunately though, many parts are no longer being maufactured due to age, so the cost of replacing them is a lot more expensive. "Mike flakes everywhere" 😂 Definitely emphasizes the importance of regular cleaning but commendable that he went as far as he did with that rig (eight years). Smart move upgrading the video card partway through the computer's life too.
I have a similar case (the HAF932) until 3 months back where I rebuild to a new ITX system. I now use this case (and the old components) for my Unraid server. The main issue with this case is due to the high air flow, the dust gets collected really easily and the concept of the dust filter was pretty much absent for that period if my memory serves correctly. I have to clean the case once every 3 to 6 months due to the dust build-up so I'm guessing like me, Mike may start cleaning it every other month but it then becomes a pain and quits after that.

I'm still using my 2012 rig. I7 3770k, corsair vengeance 16gb ddr3 1600hz, asus p8 z77 v-pro, corsair ax 1200 psu and the deceased (since 3 years ago) a evga gtx 680. So for the last 3 years I use my pc on the integrated gpu... Intel hd 4000 has been putting a heck of a lot of work. Literally my hero. I wish i could had replaced the dead gpu long ago, but money always find other places to be... (I never even manage to buy an ssd as a little upgrade... Don't even know how it's like to have one of those...)
I'm still rocking that same case. Your suppose to use the PSU shroud to hide the wires. Not hide the PSU. And something that most people seem to miss with this case, is you can fit a 360mm radiator up top. But you'll have to move that blue ray drive down a slot. Or just get rid of it.
Build his new system, and use the same HAF-X case, but modify it like I did to use it for water cooling! Yes, it can be done with using the 5 1/4 bays with a EK pump/res bay kit and then soft tubing. I used an AlphaCool radiator up top for the video cards, and used an EVGA 120 single for just the CPU. Replaced the Fans with Corsair LL fans. I did this 3 years ago - and I have not been disappointed with this system at all. I wish I could post pics in here, but I'll use this case and setup again once it's time for newer board/cpu/video cards!
Good luck finding a good motherboard at a good price point right now. Most box stores are empty unless you are lucky to have a Microcenter near by and even then, options are slim. If you don't mind waiting till August delivery, Newegg might have something your looking for. All I know is my motherboard died last week and in order to get a decent board shipped with in a few days, it was SPENDY!
@@TechnoLadz Still cuts it as a gaming cpu though (compared to modern low end cpu's, 3400g for example), would like to see a comparison done with the new gpu installed in it. Also if he uses a new Intel cpu, can't he reuse the cooler?
Damian du bois Not sure what you mean by that last point, but if you have a new intel cpu why wouldn’t you just use that, also from what I can see it doesn’t preform that similarly, the 2600K preforms similarly to a Ryzen 3 1200AF in single core and multi core
My old PC was a HAF-913, 3770k, Asrock Z77 Extreme4 board, Hyper 212, 16GB ram. Ran overclocked for years. It's been re-purposed for school for the kids and runs like a champ. The HAF-913 is a mid tower and still huge :)
Yammer all you want but old HAF cases are still the most gorgeous cases around. Friggin things look like they take on an M1A2 Abrams and leave nothing but a burning pile of scrap metal behind! Still using my HAF 912 Plus. In 11 years since I got it I pushed 3 different builds through it, and right now I'm in the process of collecting parts for the 4th build. No plans to switch to another case anytime soon.
With Intel things going Haywire these days, AMD is still the way to go... I mean, Mike wouldn't object having an AMD board with a good Ryzen CPU so... why not ?
@@mufasa744 just to play devils advocate here. if he hasn't upgraded in years, i'm assuming he's not gaming on it just using it as a workhorse, intel still edges out ryzen for gaming performance but ryzen has them beat everywhere else. Which is why for most people Amd is a better option.
@@BoofHoover He said in the video that it was really only used for gaming. AMD and Intel actually trade blows depending on the game (at least when comparing Ryzen 3600 vs i5 9600KF), and that's taking into consideration overclocking. That's why I recently upgraded from my 4670k @ 4.4GHz to a 3600 recently; my first AMD processor in over a decade.
I built a new system in April, before the shortages started to cause prices to go wonky, with a Lian Li O11 Dynamic XL. My system before that had a Cooler Master Storm Sniper Black Edition. It's a beast of a case with 3 200mm fans and a 120mm on the back that I'm going to use as a Plex Server since it's quiet and cool. It was nearly identical to this case, just bigger.
Would have loved to see how this PC performs in modern games vs like a mid-range/budget PC just to see how far we've come. And maybe a comparison between the PC being dirty and clean 😁
With the specs of that system, i'm sure he can still play Fortnite or Overwatch with reasonable settings over 60fps. It's not a terrible rig... certainly not cutting edge, but still passable.
pmsl, just found your channel ... I have the same case, similar issues except I had a water cooled twin 680 sli setup & beefier cpu, but basically a similar situation & looking to renew after a water leak killed it 2-3 years ago. Fun and informative channel, thank you.
3 months ago i dont know anything about building pc's but i do like the idea of building one so i binged watch kyles videos and now after i saved up, im watching this from a pc i built with the help of this dude and his twin brotha.....
I think that what Mike needs is a very reliable system, no AIO's. NH-D15 or a Cryorig R1 Ultimate and ensure that whatever case is used has fan filters all around that that they are easy to remove and clean. Needs to be low maintenance.
man 200 mm fans were great in terms of the amount of air they push. they have some issues with CFM but give them a straight path to feed air and you can put them to minimum speed and whatever parts you have inside is going to be fed ambient temp air. i really wish there was a case like the meshify C or corsair 220T but can fit 2x200mm in the front and the side panel has a fan which connects via pin and pads on the case. since really a minimum ATX case should only need to fit a 240 mm rad up top and a 140mm rad in the back.
Totally my system, bought it used in 2012 and had to upgrade to new parts when the old ones failed. I shoved a 1070 ti into it, still using the 3rd gen i7. Even have the bluray drive.
I still have a HAF-X sitting in my closet. I had that exact Samsung blu-ray drive too! At least the front looked the same. I was rocking a i7-4770k with GTX 970.
Lols I thought it was funny when he said I might go ryzen or maybe even intel lmao. It was like saying i might buy an android or maybe an iPhone. You only have the two choices lols.
Watching this on my FX4100/GTX470/HAF912/Hyper212 PC. Was my first time overclocking. I also cleaned it out not that long ago, but it could probably stand to be cleaned again. I can probably optimize things a little further, bring down temps/voltages, possibly try for 4.5GHz stable again, a more modern GPU... maybe an RX 570?
This is pretty much exactly the same as my first build from back in 2012. Ran it until february last year, CPU still going strong after 8 years of hard use. Only had to change the gpu after it died (probably my fault). The power supply went right across to my new build and is powering it no problem, and I'm still using the ssd as well. They were some quality parts.
I’m using an ASUS Rampage III Extreme, i7 990X, 12GB Corsair GT but with a GTX 980ti and it still smashes everything I run on it in 1080p. I suppose one good thing about the really top end high cost CPU’s, is that they prove to be future proof for many years and I think you get your monies worth in the long run.
As for the cooling goes... I'm gonna be honest here - I'm building PC's since 2000 (so 20 years) and (not now but overall through the years) now my NH-D15's and Dark Rock Pro 4 are laughing at all of your water loops....
Same dude same. I built a custom loop for my cpu and gpu. Next build I got a dark rock pro 4 and triple fan gpu. My pc looks much beefier imo the large cpu cooler just looks too good. Never again with water cooling
I have an i7 2600k, with a z67 Extreme 4 Gen 3. I do have a 1060 6gb so I'm not too worried about my GPU, but I am all ready for what you decided to pick, as I will definitely take that into consideration when I upgrade this year!
Thought i was dreaming my baby was behind you. I love this case. New cases just dont look as good. Think i will even reuse my Haf X when i finally upgrade my old girl.
I really wish modern case manufacturers made editions with better disc drive slots I mean sure most PC gamers go full digital now but its nice to have that option in case I wanna watch a bluray I have laying around.
That has pretty much the same specs as the system I built about six or seven years ago only my has 12GB of RAM and a SSD boot drive, and instead of being in a Cooler Master tower it's in an NMedia PC HTPC 8000 wooden computer case. I picked components that were suitable for overclocking under the assumption that if they can handle overclocking they should pretty much last forever streaming RUclips. I've been very happy with the computer and use it pretty much every day... and I'm using it right now.
I think you should build the system using - Intel Core i7-10700K 3.8 GHz 8-Core Processor - Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black Edition 42 CFM CPU Cooler - Asus TUF GAMING Z490-PLUS (WI-FI) ATX LGA1200 Motherboard - G.Skill Ripjaws V 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL16 Memory - Western Digital Blue SN550 250 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive - MSI GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER 8 GB VENTUS OC Video Card - Fractal Design Meshify C ATX Mid Tower Case - And any power supply 650-750 you prefer If you want to be flashier you could include a 3 pack of corsair icue fans to place in the front in order to provide better cooling and better looks, though you would need one more 120mm fan in order to even out the airflow. The parts here look great together, are on the cheaper side of high performance gaming, serving your friend well for gaming. The Meshify C is much smaller, looks great, has awesome airflow, and provides a few bays for his drives with more room for ssd's and such. The SN550 would, in my opinion, be much better for his boot drive.
Next video : Building a pc while getting my hair cut Jk jk I love your content thx so much, I’ve watch so much of your videos and you’ve helped me build my first pc thx😁
So that case is the top end in 2012. I'm still using the Low-end from 2012 (50AUD) :D Lookup Antec x1-T if you want to see it. its got a small acrylic side with an X pattern in mesh on the front.
You wouldn't believe it. Just picked up a rig in a near identical 2010 HAFF case, rocking twin water-cooled GTX 460's (yeah that's a throwback), intel i7 920, 32gb DDR3 RAM, a couple of HDDs and a 256gb SSD. And... Drumroll... A TV card 🤣.
this dude is just overreacting. this pc is still in good condition even after 8 years and many parts can still reused but no need to say stuff like this is worst condition or anything.
He might not have plugged in the USB3 cable because the HAF had an issue with it. I had one of these cases year ago too and mine went bad for some reason and the USB3 ports would cause the entire PC to not post until it was unplugged. A google search at the time showed it was a relatively common problem.
My buddy and I through together a PC with our old parts for a friend. Has a GTX 770 in it and honestly, it still does pretty okay for 1080p gaming! Very surprising.
I'd suggest re-using the case if possible. If it can be done, take out the 5" cage, CLEAN THE HELL OUT OF THE VENTS (those were some stinky vents!!) and go early 2000's sleeper case on it!
Still the best HAF case even by today's standard (just look at GN's HAF X revisit video) . Going to reuse the case for my soon to be a i5-10600k build this year. Modern full tower cases just don't have enough 3.5" drive bays and great air flow that I'm looking for.
If you think that Hyper 212 was dirty, you should've seen the inside of the PSU in my old PC. I swapped the whole 8-year-old build into a new case and thoroughly cleaned everything while it was all apart. Then I decided to open up the PSU to clean it, since I never did anything but wipe off surface dirt. I don't know how it didn't die, or catch fire. You'd think that I had thrown it in a mud hole then wiped the outside clean. And it ran flawlessly like that! Still does. The whole PC still does. It's hooked to the TV it in the living room and the wife is watching RUclips on it as I type this.
LMAO at me reading the PSU shroud thinking it was the PSU. Oh the joys of looking through a 3" LCD while filming. It's almost as hilarious as my hair in this video. Glad it's chopped off now. XD

I'm still rocking that same case. Your suppose to use the PSU shroud to hide the wires. Not hide the PSU. And something that most people seem to miss with this case, is you can fit a 360mm radiator up top. But you'll have to move that blue ray drive down a slot. Or just get rid of it.
"This was built around 2012"
Oh yeah, 2 years ago
"So this is around 8 years old"
Fuck
Build his new system, and use the same HAF-X case, but modify it like I did to use it for water cooling!
Yes, it can be done with using the 5 1/4 bays with a EK pump/res bay kit and then soft tubing. I used an AlphaCool radiator up top for the video cards, and used an EVGA 120 single for just the CPU. Replaced the Fans with Corsair LL fans. I did this 3 years ago - and I have not been disappointed with this system at all.
I wish I could post pics in here, but I'll use this case and setup again once it's time for newer board/cpu/video cards!
"MOSFETS!"
bro those are inductors
Good luck finding a good motherboard at a good price point right now. Most box stores are empty unless you are lucky to have a Microcenter near by and even then, options are slim. If you don't mind waiting till August delivery, Newegg might have something your looking for. All I know is my motherboard died last week and in order to get a decent board shipped with in a few days, it was SPENDY!
This is still a good spec pc, needs a clean and cable tidy but would last quite a while.
Not really, presuming it’s the 2500K then 4c/4t isn’t really gonna cut it in 2020, heck even the 2600K isn’t that great due to a low IPC and 4c/8t
The HAF-913 is a mid tower and still huge :)
i have that case, still using it. i'll be keeping it and my core 9x for al ong time. they are so big and easy to work in
Yammer all you want but old HAF cases are still the most gorgeous cases around.
I mean, Mike wouldn't object having an AMD board with a good Ryzen CPU so... why not ?
Intel is better wym it’s just more expensive
Update, he went intel :(
That sill would be a good case. I have a Cooler Master case but a different one. I have used it for maybe 10 years. No problems at all.
Did you hear Lyle? "You a sick boi!"
Why did he suddenly enter the set? Lmao
@@Death_Killer183 You know Lyle, he's just nosy
I built a new system in April, before the shortages started to cause prices to go wonky, with a Lian Li O11 Dynamic XL. My system before that had a Cooler Master Storm Sniper Black Edition. It's a beast of a case with 3 200mm fans and a 120mm on the back that I'm going to use as a Plex Server since it's quiet and cool. It was nearly identical to this case, just bigger.
Where it said "Designed by Cooler Master" was part of the PSU shroud wasn't it?
Gotta love vlog Kyle, no edits, full dork
Yeah I have the same text on my newer case.
yup, thought that too and came to the comments to see if anyone else mentioned it haha
Big Ouff Kyle! ;)

I saw this thinking it was pimp my rig you need to bring that series back KYLE.
Love it...$hould probably put this pc down...you had it right the first time. Wonderful as always keep em coming.

I think that what Mike needs is a very reliable system, no AIO's. NH-D15 or a Cryorig R1 Ultimate and ensure that whatever case is used has fan filters all around that that they are easy to remove and clean. Needs to be low maintenance.
At 6:46 I laughed so hard! Lyle needs to be in more videos.
Great vid though.
man 200 mm fans were great in terms of the amount of air they push. they have some issues with CFM but give them a straight path to feed air and you can put them to minimum speed and whatever parts you have inside is going to be fed ambient temp air. i really wish there was a case like the meshify C or corsair 220T but can fit 2x200mm in the front and the side panel has a fan which connects via pin and pads on the case. since really a minimum ATX case should only need to fit a 240 mm rad up top and a 140mm rad in the back.
You think this is dirty? You should watch TechYesCity, I love what he does!
Ya!
No
Love that big full case, you got to clean it and reuse it.

Totally my system, bought it used in 2012 and had to upgrade to new parts when the old ones failed. I shoved a 1070 ti into it, still using the 3rd gen i7. Even have the bluray drive.
HAH even better, my wifi router runs like a console

Was my first time overclocking. I also cleaned it out not that long ago, but it could probably stand to be cleaned again.
I can probably optimize things a little further, bring down temps/voltages, possibly try for 4.5GHz stable again, a more modern GPU... maybe an RX 570?
This isn't relatable, not in the way you think, I don't clean my PC,
I don't have one... :(

I owned that case for a while and wow it's got a TON of space and doesn't look half bad, but if you don't jam pack it, it looks soooo empty!

Yes ikr my gf has swallowed many
I’m using an ASUS Rampage III Extreme, i7 990X, 12GB Corsair GT but with a GTX 980ti and it still smashes everything I run on it in 1080p.
Which loop? My arctic 280 is running at 800 rpm. What's yours doing?
Same dude same. I built a custom loop for my cpu and gpu. Next build I got a dark rock pro 4 and triple fan gpu. My pc looks much beefier imo the large cpu cooler just looks too good. Never again with water cooling
Been building since 2001, after nothing but HSF, all I love my AIO

Thought i was dreaming my baby was behind you. I love this case. New cases just dont look as good. Think i will even reuse my Haf X when i finally upgrade my old girl.

Other then Mike needing a PC upgrade, you need to upgrade that hair, looks like you shocked yourself a few times...
Lol
Quarantine Hair i'm sure.
I think you should build the system using
- Intel Core i7-10700K 3.8 GHz 8-Core Processor
- Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black Edition 42 CFM CPU Cooler
- Asus TUF GAMING Z490-PLUS (WI-FI) ATX LGA1200 Motherboard
- G.Skill Ripjaws V 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL16 Memory
- Western Digital Blue SN550 250 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive
- MSI GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER 8 GB VENTUS OC Video Card
- Fractal Design Meshify C ATX Mid Tower Case
- And any power supply 650-750 you prefer
If you want to be flashier you could include a 3 pack of corsair icue fans to place in the front in order to provide better cooling and better looks, though you would need one more 120mm fan in order to even out the airflow.

And... Drumroll... A TV card 🤣.
this dude is just overreacting. this pc is still in good condition even after 8 years and many parts can still reused but no need to say stuff like this is worst condition or anything.
exactly, he makes his "friend" sound like some dirty tramp, when in reality, the inside of that pc is no different to any other
3D Sound & Music over exaggerated too
He might not have plugged in the USB3 cable because the HAF had an issue with it.

Wow I'm Early to a Bitwit Video that never happens
I'd suggest re-using the case if possible. If it can be done, take out the 5" cage, CLEAN THE HELL OUT OF THE VENTS (those were some stinky vents!!) and go early 2000's sleeper case on it!
Hey I'm early
So ummmm...
*The Verge Bad?*
I mean, your not wrong.
Don't talk shit about the verge. They'll track you down, tie you up with tweezers and drown you in thermal paste.
Still the best HAF case even by today's standard (just look at GN's HAF X revisit video) . Going to reuse the case for my soon to be a i5-10600k build this year. Modern full tower cases just don't have enough 3.5" drive bays and great air flow that I'm looking for.
Hey Kyle, is it time for me to replace my PC?
I have a Dell Latitude with a 3rd Gen i5 with integrated graphics for my everyday everything. Lol
It's hooked to the TV it in the living room and the wife is watching RUclips on it as I type this.
wow i'm one of the first i think... there must be a bug
Haf x still good for airflow and watercooling in 2020 , I still have one of these beasts stored in garage
