Meh I think it is about pushing that budget to the actual edge of the bracket to get significantly more value for minimal increases that were skipped over. Plus people rarely have a 'hard set budget' they can generally go over by a little bit if it means significant performance increases.
D U yes you can go over a bit like 10-30 but once you go over by more than that you throw your budget out the window. Most people keep as close to their budget as they can and he just was like “it looks like their budget was (in example) $700. With all these upgrades the total is $800.

A thought: If a submitted list has some special feature - 32GB of RAM, 1TB NVMe - the person may have a legitimate use for them, especially if it seems unreasonable for a gaming computer in the price range. If it has a fancy case with tempered glass panels & RGB and added RGB fans and controller, they probably *really* want RGB and a looks-oriented setup. Instead of snuffing out those features on every design and turning each into dulled-down performance-maximized gaming computer, maybe make two variations every time: *1) Optimize the original concept.* Retain the defining aspects of the original list, but try to find cheaper ways to get a similar effect; then spend the savings elsewhere. Concentrate on improving the list in what you'd assume it was made for. (32GB+ RAM *should* indicate towards video editing or other workstation-type tasks, like software development or virtualization.) (It would probably be helpful if you asked people to provide the use case when submitting their list.) *2) Your own take with a similar budget, taken in a different direction.* Vary the direction from one submission to the next, and make *different* compromises between things like gaming performance / workstation performance / bling / quietness / small size, portability / bang-for-buck.
I'd argue that people who are submitting partslists for his approval probably aren't seasoned builders who have tailored lists and aren't fretting over looks vs. performance. It'd be silly to assume that any given person is in a position to devote half the price of their system to aesthetics, and those that can probably wouldn't be worrying about whether their list is viable.
@@psilocinesthesia My suggestion came from the notion that having varying builds (and not 4 x "gamer leet") would be more interesting content. Even if most of the submitted lists were unviable, just throwing them out and redoing entirely with a performance focus *every time* isn't very helpful. If the person wants RGB and has overspent on that (for the budget), providing an alternate build with more modestly priced RGB stuff and reallocating funds elsewhere could actually be helpful, and fulfill the original build creator's requirements. Removing most RGB wouldn't. If a person has an idea that they want lots of memory and fast storage, you should try to work off that, and not just use the boiler-plate "256/512GB C: SATA SSD for system and most important games + 2TB HDD is enough for everyone". Not that you couldn't add that that would be enough for a gaming build.
@@psilocinesthesia The last build in the Lian Li was very much an aesthetic build. White AIO, White RAM, White RGB fans, I'd even hazard their 011 Dynamic of choice is the White version. I don't even think their GPU was that bad of a choice if they're not gaming in 4K.

Even if the 3000 series wasn't going to be the god tier launch it is so far, we knew for a fact even in February that whatever Nvidia announced the new 3080 would be cheaper and perform better than the 2080ti, not to mention the 2000 series was so massively overpriced that there was always an extremely high chance of a significant price drop, the only surprising part was that the significant price drop coincided with one of the biggest performance increases in GPU history. Not to mention we also knew that the new consoles were dropping around this time as well (Nvidia clearly doesn't give a fuck about AMD at this point and is focusing on consoles as competition), so even more reason to believe great things awaited us. It was 100% a terrible decision to recommend that 2080ti, I would have been able to forgive him if he recommended the 2080 itself but recommending a 2080ti in the situation he did, knowing the person wasn't even able to consider building it yet (due to it being a goal PC that would likely take 3-4 months anyways) was almost malicious on his part.

@@dtz1000 and the last list he chose the 011 dynamic but didn't add any fans because he said performance over looks, so essentially it would be a $2000 Furnace, which in turn wouldve led to probably the same amount of performance if not worse due to that 2080 Ti thermal throttling through hell and back. Which yes, I agree the $300 for 6 fans, regardless of brand or not is fucking ridiculous. Especially considering arctic has $10 fans that perform on part the Noctua A12x25 and can now be had with ARGB for just $14 per fan. that would've been only $85 worth of Noctua killers that look x1000 better and perform just the same.

His advice was a bad one, due to incompatibility of 3600Mhz ram on a 2000 series Ryzen. So ignore that. On Intel it doesn't matter due to a total different design going beyond 3200Mhz wont grant you that much, other than in benchmarks. On Ryzen 1000-2000 series CPU's 3200Mhz is nearly the max you can get out of the memory controller, so, running 3200Mhz there is 'spot on'. On 3000 series Ryzen the gains of choosing higher frequency ram over lower timings grants you higher Infinity Fabric speeds up to a maximum of 3600Mhz (1800 IF) without stability issues, and with tinkering you can get between 3733-3800Mhz with a Infinty clock of 1866-1900Mhz. To the conclusion: 3200Mhz is fine, especially with a 32GB kit. With AMD: The more GB you install, the higher the strain on the memory controller, the lower the stable operating clocks of the ram are. IE: installing 128GB ram might need to run at 2933 or lower to maintain stability.
No, you don't. I have 16GB and I can have hundreds of Chrome tabs opened. Why? Because not all of those tabs are active (loaded). When you close Chrome while setting the tabs to "Continue where you left off" it will open those tabs in the window(s) but it will never load them until you actually go on those tabs. And because of how a person uses a computer, you will rarely ever see someone opening 100 tabs in one session, so you rarely ever run out of memory. Chrome usually uses 2-4GB for me, but that's because of the headroom that I have, like how Windows on a machine with 4GB of RAM will use about 2GB of RAM but on a 16GB machine will use about 4GB.

@@spinyslasher6586 For a proper explanation look up QLC SSDs and why they're bad, there should be some good articles. But basically when moving and rewriting data, an SSD has to temporarily store bits of data somewhere until they're needed, and a small amount of fast memory is used for that (a DRAM cache). Some cheaper SSDs don't have this cache, and so they use a small section of the SSD's storage to do this. However, newer flash technologies are much slower than the type typically used in cache memory, and so in many scenarios the SSD can slow to a crawl. This is especially bad when you're running Windows off of one of these SSDs (i.e using it as a "boot drive"), because not only are your file transfers and programs reading and writing from the drive, but the operating system is constantly doing the same. Essentially choking up the drive. This was hugely oversimplified and I probably got a couple things wrong, but I hope I explained why you don't want to use a DRAMless SSD to boot windows off of.

For anyone looking for a great build in the $1700-1800 range - Take the last build in the video and swap the 2080ti for a 2080 Super ($400 less and still extremely powerful). Also, that motherboard can only support up to 3200 mhz ram speed. Awesome video Bitwit, great builds and very insightful. Thumbs up as always
For the last build, this is my take: I would rather spend on 2080 super instead of 2080ti (yeah, you know where the value is) WIth 400 USD diff, I could spend that on the fan kit that cost roughly 120 USD and a 1440p 144hz monitor (ex: ViewSonic VX2758-2KP-MHD). Or spend more on RAM, 16GB is not enough tbh. You need 24, so 32gb is the answer. There are a lot of AAA games that consume 10gb+ when playing, and it will cache on the pagefile, which is maybe your system drive and it will cost you the system performance and sometimes: FPS. Especially when you are playing at 1440p, texture size will be large and 8GB might not be enough. Or even 11GB. When I click this video I thought you were going to help save some money for the budget of the people in the part list but instead you increased by $100-50 each build like anybody could just increase the build cost and say this one's better because it cost more money obviously but I thought you were going to use some of your knowledge to save money as well as give a little bit more performance
The budget did increase but the performance gain was definitely worth it. He basically always chose a much better GPU, so if you want to save some bucks just keep the old GPU and problem solved.
seb0 seb0 he saved tons of money on these builds all over the place. Yes overall budget might go up by $100 but he was able to fit $600 worth of better performance in there, for example upgrading the RTX 2070 Super to an RTX 2080 Ti

@@carbongaming8448 I've never met someone planning a PC build that was sticking to some arbitrary range of '600$ but I can go over by 10-30$' it was always '600$ is roughly my area that I want to stick to'. It is completely foolish to try to stick to a hardset budget with these kinds of things, if your budget for a car is 25 thousand dollars but you find a brand new 2021 BMW luxury + options for 26 thousand you don't say 'welp out of my budget'. As a kid these budgets are pretty 'in stone' as an adult if they are 'in stone' you can't afford them at all.
Now he did have really shit recommendations such as the 2080ti swap, the 3600 memory, swapping a samsung evo for a dramless m.2, etc. He had some bad recommendations but overall spending 50-100$ more on an objectively much much better PC (despite a few bad recommendations) is not a bad thing at all. Aside from the 2080ti build, that one was just fucking stupid in every way.
@@Outwardpd well mr i have an infanate amount of money in the real world when people go and have a budget they usally stick really close to is because guess what the budget is almost always the total amount they have to spend on the thing. they usally have a tiny bit they can go over but they try and aim for under the budget.
Instead of snuffing out those features on every design and turning each into dulled-down performance-maximized gaming computer, maybe make two variations every time:
*1) Optimize the original concept.*
Retain the defining aspects of the original list, but try to find cheaper ways to get a similar effect; then spend the savings elsewhere. Concentrate on improving the list in what you'd assume it was made for. (32GB+ RAM *should* indicate towards video editing or other workstation-type tasks, like software development or virtualization.) (It would probably be helpful if you asked people to provide the use case when submitting their list.)
*2) Your own take with a similar budget, taken in a different direction.*
Vary the direction from one submission to the next, and make *different* compromises between things like gaming performance / workstation performance / bling / quietness / small size, portability / bang-for-buck.
Facts
@@Silvar55x You can buy/upgrade rgb fans easily, but you can't do that with bigger components if your system has a 6core cpu and a 200$ gpu..
Just spend most of your budget on the main parts and pimp it out with next months paycheck, 10x better than upgrading a mid range gpu or cpu the next year when a new architecture comes out.

Right that shit was mean.
He did say only for ryzen. If you don't have ryzen you're fine.
Looking at speed without looking at latency is worthless. He replaces a 3200 kit with a 3600 kit that's $25 cheaper. That doesn't make sense unless CAS latency plays a role. In all likelihood the 3200 mhz kit is faster.

Ikr the 2080s is basically a 2080ti without the sprinkles of 5 extra fps on a game u get 200fps on already. And don't even get me started on the Titan.
And here we are after the 3000 release knowing for a fact a 2080ti was an atrocious decision, I hope he never built that system cause if he did he lost 600$+ in the span of the 30 minutes it took Nvidia to announce the new line.
@Gareth Tucker Ehhh definitely would not have kept the x570 on any builds except the final one where I definitely think he made the build worse rather than better. Most of those guys were putting 150$ GPUs in their system doubtful they had plans for those kinds of huge upgrades, and gen 4 nvme (over the previous) is honestly completely useless for 99.9999% of people building a PC. Hell almost no one, even the very keen and experienced, would be able to tell the difference between a Sata SSD and a gen 4 NVME as far as gaming and general use goes.
Do agree the 2080ti was a horrendous suggestion but not cause it is overkill, but because it is overpriced.

My guy, they might be a lot better but we're trying budget here
If you're building a PC that you want to last and perform well for a good length of time, you're better off saving for a little longer to make that extra $50-$100
Absolutely however there's a lot of people (mostly teens, and students, includimg myself) who can't/don't have the time to earn or possibly save up an extra 50-100 bucks, which is why it is attempted to build at a specific budget

>recommends DRAMless SSD as a boot drive
Oh Kyle...
For which list
Wtf does any of that mean?
For which list?
@@sfrerku I think he is talking about the 2nd list where he swapped out the samsung evo NVME boot drive for a crucial ssd. He should have just went with a cheaper nvme like the corsair mp510, its 20$ more than that crucial he recommended and its a great drive, or at least an SSD that has DRAM. That crucial drive is fine as a secondary drive but not for the boot drive. No $960 build should be using a SSD without DRAM for a boot drive.

@@currentlykent4593 I like that they left fans out of it because it lets you pick your poison. Kyle: 16 gigs is just fine for some gaming.

For the last build, this is my take:
I would rather spend on 2080 super instead of 2080ti (yeah, you know where the value is)
WIth 400 USD diff, I could spend that on the fan kit that cost roughly 120 USD and a 1440p 144hz monitor (ex: ViewSonic VX2758-2KP-MHD).
