Started Finasteride at the age of 21 when I was experiencing severe hair loss. Hair loss stabilised due to this. Now age 34. 13 years so far. Still have a head full of hair. Stopped only twice for a month each time in 2016 & 2018 when me and my wife were planning children. Would have been bald if I had not started Finasteride at an early age.

What if finastride improves your hair loss to a degree that you don’t need a hair transplant? Will you stay on it then or will you get off of it and let your hair loss resume so the surgeon can actually see where they need to transplant the hairs?

I had no idea I was even going bald until a girl brough it up to me. I got on minoxidil and the rest is history. I recently started topical finastride because I don’t know how long minoxidil alone will hold it off. From what I understand, minoxidil only stimulates the hair follicle and finastride blocks the conversion of dht. I figured attacking it from 2 angles will be more effective longer.
Dimitar Martinovski, I recently watched a video on RUclips about a physician referring to a study that showed the if you implant hairs from the donor zone to the thinning or bald areas they won’t fall out. More interestingly he stated that the study showed that if you transplant hairs from the the thinning areas of the head into the donor zone, the the hairs would still fall despite that.
@@jayfadeaway8931 that's because it's the follicles that are damaged. The reason for taking finasteride after transplant is to prevent the un-transplanted hair follicles from getting damaged by DHT.
Could you please elaborate more in a separate video about the ‚turning on’ and especially the ‚turning off‘ of the hair loss gene, and what it means for finasteride treatment when getting older (40, 50, 60 or even more)? For me, that is a concept I have never heard of so far. Thank you!

Hi bro, I am also from India, I need your guide pls, can u tell me about how u started using it, I mean the doctor things, every day doses, the costs, etc etc
I took finasteride 3 times a week with minoxidil 5% twice a day for 3 months and the results were great, I regrew my hair and it was perfect, but I had to stop because my wife is concerned if it may lead to a health condition and I don't wanna risk it and regret later since I already have 3 kids. But it definitely was worth it and it made me happy for time it grew my hair.

@@enargy5890 bro....what i understood after using finasteride , hair follicle becomes more sensitive to dht , after immediate stopping finasteride, DHT shock wave will attack hair follicle. so we need to make adapt hail follicle against DHT, which is similar to train the muscle against the load. for that we need to reduce the finasteride dose gradually 1 mg , 0.75mg, 0.5mg ,0.25 mg like that. all are same interval of time. i believe that after completely stopping, the finasteride people must not do any sexual activity about 3 months to adapt the hair follicles, body normal testosterones to DHT conversions. if any one doing sexual activity after stopping the medication, there is sudden increase of testosterones levels up to 30 percentage. which cause massive damage to hair.

I have a finasteride dosing question. I'm a woman with post-menopausal overall hair density thinning and miniaturization that occurred over a 3 year period. So gradual that it took me awhile to even notice what was happening until the volume loss began to seriously impact hair styling. I've been using minoxidil for 6 months and so far, so good. I recently added finasteride. My doctor prescribed 1mg per day. So far, no side effects. I got a second opinion on the dose from another doctor and was told that anything less than 5mg is not an effective dose for a woman. Both doctors are board certified dermatologists who specialize in hair loss. If 1mg per day truly is insufficient for a woman, I may be wasting valuable time. What has your experience been in your practice with respect to effective finasteride dosing for women?

You mentioned how the balding genetics could "turn off" at a certain age. It makes sense to me theoretically that as you age, you produce less T, therefore less T to be converted into DHT. So would you assume that reducing Fin as you age is a good idea? Perhaps lower the dosage after 35-40-45?

For context: I've been on finasteride for around 8 months and have lost significant amount of hair however, it probably slowed down the rate of loss a little bit. The cases of gynecomastia came from a desbalance in the hormone structure. Without the normal conversion of test to dht, the amount of test increases, wich is converted to estrogen and may cause increasement in fat and boobies. This is more likely to help in fat dudes, as the adipocit starts to produce feminine hormoneses as it gets multiplied.
A lot of people ask about cognitive risk, but it seems you keep ignore those. I also consider taking this, but as i read few researches it seems that dht and other things produced by 5 alpha play a role in brain functionality. What is your based opinion on this? Thank you

I have a question that came to my mind and I don´t find information anywhere. If you have a hair that is getting weak but didn´ get to the point of no return yet, what happens if you pull it out? Does that hair follicle grow back again? If so, would it grow stronger (imagine you are stimulating hair growth), the same, weaker ..? or it would die. Please, if you know the answer comment here. And maybe if you also wonder this give a like to this comment so the doctors get to see it. Thank you in advance
@@tagada7 Thank you for answering. I was thinking a little bit more about it and maybe my thought process was wrong from the beginning. My idea was that if you pull out a hair you would stimulate the generation of a new one, at least that's what happens in the body. You just don't lose your body hair by removing it assuming that your hair is not already dead. Just delay the creation of a new one. That's why I thought, if you remove a weak but still alive hair you stimulate the creation of a new one and maybe a better one? (Assuming you are in treatment). Basically forcing the shedding. I thought that you could save a dying hair before it reaches the point where there's nothing left to save. I might be wrong and I would like to know the scientific explanation in this case.

Hi Vikram, I just wanted to ask whether finasteride has any effects on the neurosteroids in the body and is DHT necessary for optimum brain function? I have heard many ppl talking about the long term consequences of finasteride on brain function. Thank you.
These surgeons obviously don't have a definitive answer to this ,otherwise they would have gone more in depth about it.Dr Knudson said mentall side effects are relatively rare .
It does have an effect at large enough doses and those doses depend on the individual iirc. So some people might tolerate 1mg daily for a couple years before they get symptoms while others might not and experience symptoms in a matter of months. So you might have to lower your dosage and/or lower the frequency you take finasteride which isnt that much of a problem since the medication stays in the body for a month with just one dose. Just remember that finasteride has risks involved regarding your prostate health, libido and neurological functions if you don't take it in safe doses, and even then you could still end up with symptoms
Yes it did give me dark circles and wrinkles and it also affected my vision, I had to stop it because of that but it doesn't mean that you will suffer from them too

Is it possible that post-finasteride syndrome is confused with the long time the drug remains on the skin? It is said that a simple dose of 1mg can remain on the skin for at least 30 days, so daily intake would lead to an over-accumulation in the body. In addition, it takes 3-6 months for the body to rid itself of the drug.

If you are using say minoxidil for 10 years without using finasteride and have had awesome hair growth during that period, say theoretically the balding gene switched off, would you be able to stop using minoxidil and still maintain the hair?
Finasteride and minoxidil are not interchangeable. Finasteride stops balding while minoxidil grows hair. One cannot help the effect of the other. This means that if you grow hair on minoxidil, the finasteride can not keep the hairs you gained if you quit minoxidil.

Don't go crazy with altering the hairline. If you decide you don't like the first result, you could go back and add to it. I wouldn't go above and beyond where you were naturally. Also understand that doctors will implant 1.5-3k hairs. If the same amount is used in a larger area, the hair will look substantially less dense. Definitely dont go overboard.

Hi doctor. I saw in another video that you said it takes only 90 days for all the Finasteride in your body to leave your system, once you stop. @@jayfadeaway8931 that's because it's the follicles that are damaged. The reason for taking finasteride after transplant is to prevent the un-transplanted hair follicles from getting damaged by DHT.

@@venkatmech2508 No bro, after 1 month you will lose what you regrown. I'm doing again my medication after 8 months and will try to regrow my hair then stop minox while continuing my finasteride 3 times a week.

Any update? Did you took 1mg or 5mg and did you see a result on it
1mg a day keeps the hair loss away, no pun intended. Its safe mostly unless you develop unwanted side effects
women should not use that
Doctor please clarify how the balding gene can just turn off at a certain age ? This is the first time hearing this.I always thought once you start losing your hair it won't stop untill you go bald.
Genetics controls the hair loss process. Not everyone that loses their hair ends up being shiny bald.
@@TheHairLossShow Do you have some idea if Diffuse Thinning patients can end up shiny bald?? I have a diffuse pattern (on the top) hairline and crown are preety good. However, I don't find as much content as common pattern baldness. 31 y old and I realized I had it 1,5 year ago. I have no idea if my case is severe or not.
As men age, they produce less androgens, however, follicles get more sensitive to androgens as you age. It's an interesting paradox.
Interesting indeed!

does Minoxidil cause Gynecomastia
did this occur to any of your patients in your practice
The cases of gynecomastia came from a desbalance in the hormone structure. Without the normal conversion of test to dht, the amount of test increases, wich is converted to estrogen and may cause increasement in fat and boobies. This is more likely to help in fat dudes, as the adipocit starts to produce feminine hormoneses as it gets multiplied.

Hi dr.
My question is if finasteride decrease libido, why don’t switch to use natural ingredientslike saw palmetto, biotin and other DHT blocker ingredients?
Saw Palmetto has the same adverse effect on libido biotin can't help with hormonal hairloss and once you block dht in anyway. It has a side effect like ED or lower libido and it doesn't happen in all cases.
Because natural ingredients don't address the underlying cause of hairloss, and other DHT blockers aren't FDA approved.
Natural remedies like saw palmetto and rosemary oil that decrease DHT do not decrease it at a severe enough level to stop male pattern balding
I was using natural remedies for long time and didn’t work. Just helped with dry scalp. I still use some of the oils but had to go on the prescription. Low vitamin D can make it worse so just make sure that’s good but I get blood tests all the time and even with good vitamin D levels my hair was still falling out. Runs in family

excellent question

I've been on finasteride for 6 months 1mg/day and it seems my MPB has been halted completely. Is what I'm asking for too much? I'm trying to be conservative here just like all the hairloss surgeons seem to be but I want a hairline that I like and one that all the hairstyles will look neat with. Thoughts, Doc?
Don't go crazy with altering the hairline. If you decide you don't like the first result, you could go back and add to it. I wouldn't go above and beyond where you were naturally. Also understand that doctors will implant 1.5-3k hairs. If the same amount is used in a larger area, the hair will look substantially less dense. Definitely dont go overboard.
Hey! It’s been a year since your comment. How has it been for you? Any side effects from finasteride? How are you doing? I’m your age (23) at time of posting, with the exact same hair/forehead description and would love to know more. Thank u!
Hi doc , I've been on 1ml of 5% minoxidil + 1mg finasteride everyday for the past 35 days. I apply minoxidil only on top of my head. For the past few days I've noticed an increase in hair fall. Interestingly hair on the back of my head(where I do not apply minoxidil) are also falling in large numbers.
Is this natural? Or should I be worried?
Actually when I started using dusteride + 5% minoxidil solution my hair fall stoped or reduced only after 2.5 months and in first month of treatment more hairfall was noticed.
I think you should not worry .

Hello, I have side effects after finasteride, I used it for about half a year, I stopped taking the drug 3 years ago, I have further effects such as weak erection, failure to maintain an erection, scrotum not holding the volume (dangling testicles), high testicular temperature, what medications can help me? How can you increase the enzyme 5 alpha reductase?
Wait, the baldness gene can turn off? How does that work?
i’ve lost hair around my hairline, none in the crown of my head yet. i just started taking finasteride, and i’m wondering if i can regrow any hair in the area where i’ve lost it?
Some people do, some people don’t. You can use minoxidil aswell.
sir, what will i do if this drug become tolerance ?? sir , i will be so glad if you answer this.
So it doesn't regrow any hair at all,, all the videos I've been watching says it has and also has thickened there hair
I am taking it in the form of spray with minoxidil in it for 2 years . But the problem that I am currently facing is erectile dysfunction and enlarged breast . I don’t know what should I do and how to deal to it .
Can it causes Cancer for long time use...??
Why medical science is not progressing ?? Why cant big pharma companies come up with some kind of alternative which is permanent. Every medicine 💊 has got sideffects some way or the other. Why people in the industry arent focusing on clonning the hair.
More likely, it’s their business of of all things like min fin and hair transplants
What happens if your on trt ? Should we take this while our test levels are inflated
I lost my hair due to sebboric dermatitis
Will still finasteride help me to sustain or grow my hair

Its completely reversible process
What you said?? "Turn off the male pattern baldness gene" ??? Is that possible????
Yeah just turn the switch off in the power box
Hi doctor. I saw in another video that you said it takes only 90 days for all the Finasteride in your body to leave your system, once you stop. So, if I've been taking Finasteride for 1-2 decades and believe my hair loss has stabilized, could I stop using Fin for 90 days and observe the results to test that? And if I don't observe any hair loss or very minimal hairloss, would I then be able to stop taking Fin?
After 1 year it's important to stop it for 3 months.. after 3 month it's important to stop for 15 days that's the safest procedure..
