To everyone: The noises are straight cut gears in a transmission. They are more responsive for racing (faster safer etc etc) but noisy. No this is not an electric. No you are not hearing a supercharger.
But despite that, if you want a dog box but don't want one that's too loud, you can. You can actually have a helical cut gearset in a dog-box. Many people don't know that.
PSRBF6 and many people also don't know that its not a "dog-box" as they claim its a sequential shifting gearbox a dogbox is like what they use in nascar with an H pattern (gaited) manual transmission that allows for clutchless shifting up and down
sideways88turbo it's a common misconception that dog-boxes only come as H-pattern, you can get them in manual sequential too like in V8SC racing series. The sequential is just like the H-pattern, you can do clutch-less upshifts and heel toe on the downshifts, but the way you select gears is different. "Dog-Box" is the type of gear engagement of the gears themselves. "H-pattern" or "Sequential" is the type of gear selection from the driver. In most road cars, the type of gear engagement of the gears themselves is "synchro-mesh". I would probably have to write a book about this to fully explain everything.
It was built by BMW Motorsports and it’s normally aspirated 2.0 4 clyinder engine puts out 280-310 horsepower It has 86.5mm bore and around a 85mm stroke, which shared the same block as the street going M42 , solid lifter valvetrain , limited to a 8500rpm redline dry sump oiling system static compression ratio of around 12:1
Gerard Prins wrong. car was built by west tuning. its a single vanos S50B30 with pistons imported from holland. knife edge crank. vanos deleted. rear diff is quaife. gbox is stright cut sequential. cost 25k new. with regular rebuilds costing 4.5K+. car has loads of other mods. but i cant remember what the original driver told me.

OMG! His driving is totally composed and in complete control. He changes his lines on the spot and passes other cars blocking him like nothing. This is not just any race driver, definitely a champion at work here.
Driver was THE major factor in this race. That cat was nailing his line and sticking the apex. I'm an M3 lover and would love to say that it was all car, but the fact is, the driver was the key element. I'm sure this was a multi class race
@007envious: its the "dog cut" gears in the transmission whining. Normal gears are curved to be quiet and smooth, but "dog cut" gears are cut straight to allow fast shifting (you don't use a clutch, you just slam from gear-to-gear without lifting the throttle). Cars with manual transmissions have dog-cut gears for reverse, and the same squeeling sound can be heard.
This car is a 90's 2.0 16v super touring car as used in german British world etc touring car championships which it won under numerous drivers several times, man this makes me wish they would bring back the old touring car races, they were the best!
Brilliant driving. Some of the most skillful driving I have seen for a good while. Would have been easy to have made contact but well avoided. Shame we cant hear the engine for the gearbox whining but cant have it all!! Nice clip.

Its a 318i with a sequential gearbox with straight cut gears.
The high pitched sound is from the straight cut gears.
That thing is crazy....have to wear the helmet just to keep your ears from bleeding when it's shrieking like that.

Differential, exactly! The pitch doesn't change when he shifts gears, it's only vehicle speed.
That driver is ballsy with two three car overtakes. Some borderline crazy insane drive lines. Car is fast but that is a driver push a car to the max.
