I don't know about this particular car, but Golfs were available with AWD way back. The Golf II and Golf III (like in the video) was available with "Syncro" which is permanent 4x4, and the Golf IV and V are available with 4motion (FWD, Rear wheels engaged by Haldex clutch when needed.) The Golf III GT was to my knowledge never made with awd, but transfering from another Golf (e.g. Golf III GL Syncro) wouldn't be too tricky, when you think about this entire car.
1, a car being street legal is dependent on the laws of the country the car is in, not just yours. 2, race suspension usually consists of many adjustments - one of them being ride height (roll center height)3, emissions laws vary from state to state in most countries and in aus many pre-1985 vehicles are not even required to equip a catalytic converter
I'm a dodge guy but have to say this car is wicked. The guy gets on the track side to side with Ferraris, lambos, Porches. On the line, These big money guys laughing at the golf like : WTF is he doing here with a golf ?!" but then, after 1 lap or two, That fu***g golf is 10 cars ahead of everyones.... I would like to see their faces and dropping jaws..... Golf : 40 000 $ Porches GT3 : 130 000$ + Ferrari : 100 000$ + Lambo : 300 000$ + Being beaten by a Golf : PRICELESSSSSSS !!!!!

580 is probably the HP measured at the wheels and not comming directly from the engine. No, it doesn't lose that much power when measuring on a dyno, however there is about a 20% reduction when measured at the wheels.
Golfs are the roxx, smaller lighter tighter. Supercars and Exotics are a great way to show off that you have lots of money. but there's something you just can't beat about the power to weight ratio you can achieve with a GTI.
hahah I love this, the frames and engine has been speed up by a factor of 1.5. hhehe 14000 rpm engine, really it was probably 7!!! I like the car though, it's really nice!
I bet that golf would roast 95% of porches out there. With a stock 2.8l (or 3,2) 6 cylinder engine she a pretty good base, and 2 turbos can be put on it, to give it 530 hp. Porche GT3 is 69.7inches wide, GTI's are 69.3inches, and it's only 7.4 inches taller. My car came with all round disc brakes too! The only difference is the HP, and I'll still race when I get my twin turbos.
I´m interested in fast cars...so i found this while i was searching, but its not my favorite, because it is totally ripped and has nothing todo with a real power car like a lambo or ferrari. my self i had Alpina B8, this car was pure understatement and comfortable...and fast like hell...;-)
Well, it actually might NOT be 1,000 horsepower, but it's definitely got a lot of power. I'd guess anywhere above 600. Keep in mind these cars are really, really light. They don't need much power to acheive them speeds.

As long as u admit u like the GTI, porches are sweet cars. I actually just looked up the GT3 and it would be a bomb car to drive. The new ones have stock turbos I think.

I think most of supercars on a random track day wouldn't be driven to the limit,I guess maybe only half of their abilities are used,as most of the supercars has a high maintenance cost,and it's just not worth ruining the car on a sunday-drive track like this. Though,you do hold some driving skills to keep that little hatch on the track. :)
Oh my good god. I love the turn in this thing has. Especially against the lambo at 2:47ish And it is fast forwarded. At 1:46 its normal and you can obviously tell it's in fact on a F1 car lol. Though it does sound amazing when its fast forwarded =-)

i think you might find it's the other way around. while porsche own a large share of volkswagon they use a variety of components engineered by volkswagon also(audi mostly). it saves alot of money in R&D.

@hbsrx actually depending what the track is you may want downforce on the rear to keep the car level when it hits vertical G's, that would be like saying you wouldnt want front downforce on an indy car, lol
If it really is the Audi 2.1L straight-five with turbochargers, 1000 HP shouldn't be such of a problem. That engine, even with restrictors can touch the 1500HP if you have big enough turbochargers.

It seemed that the GT3 wasn't interested in racing a Golf,neither did the Ferrari nor Murchielago,had the Lambo burried the throttle out of that corner,I don't think you would be able to pass at all..Why do i say that,bcos,I drive alot of these cars,and I know about the Lambo's abilities...AWESOME!

F1 cars have about 800 horsepower. They're also very, very high revving V10's with nothing for torque. This Golf puts out 1,000 horsepower, and most likely over 800 ft.-lbs of torque. This video is not sped up..
No, Audi engine blocks are pretty reliable. Like those Nissan engine blocks. Only those older Audi engine are more high-RPM performance-based with 5-valves per cilinder.

This is Hockenheim circuit in germany. it hosts the DTM or touring car championship. This is a swiss tuned golf that outputs 580hp for 900kg.
