    A lot of what I'm getting from this is that you need to play as Imperial Fists: build, fortify, defend and reinforce until you have enough research and resources to start dropping terminator squads directly into the enemy HQ. For Dorn and for the EMPEROR!

      I just dumped 7 1/2 hours into my first play. I literally made every mistake possible just to come out knowing that what you said is how you have to play the marines. I have lost so many units fighting all over the place until captain, my captain! Came out and put everyone and everything to the sword! Stay close to base and get whatever resource tiles to can. Spam end turn to get more fortresses, and then expand out.

      Not every tile. There is a hexagon marker showing how many buildings it can have. Forests only have 2, unless the tile is cleared.

    After getting your city economy set up, build Chaplains, they have the skills which provide 12 loyalty. Getting Chaplains and keeping them alive helps tremendously.

    You definitely want to pop that chaplain first. A circle of Centurions with a chaplain in the middle providing damage and morale buffs is a great time.

    If you do a Chaos SM tips video I highlight, extreeeeeeeeemely highlight the importance of rhino transports. I am very surprised by the fact that the SMs don’t have any but I suppose the orbital deployment is Slytherin’s balance counter for the lack of early game transports. These things are so integral to your strategy in using cultist mobs and marines for specialized roles that the armory should be your first tech tree option taken as they are perfect for soaking up enemy damage while protecting your troops, and then unloading two units and providing a solid amount of focused damage between whatever units you unloaded and the rhino’s combi-bolter which doesn’t do much damage but when upgraded with havoc launchers can do quite a bit of AP damage. Right now I pretty much am far enough into my campaign that I’m turning out rhinos every two turns and producing cultists and marines to fill them up and send them to the front lines.

      Butter Nut Hydra Dominatus brother, I really hope we get to see more classic and non-spotlight-lit units, I was pleasantly surprised by the inclusion of the Vindicator tank, however I do wish that the orbital deployment was more balanced, best thing I can see is a capacity of sorts where you can either send squads up or have any in production go there instead of spawning in your city. That way you have to strategize what units you want to deploy/teleport and if you’re facing off of someone who has 2000+ influence, they can’t simply just land their entire army around the enemy stronghold and finish the enemy in one turn after an orbital scan is used. This way your deployment is balanced and thematic as that’s not how SMs always deploy and it’s thematic in a turn taken to go into orbit before landing back onto the surface next turn, after all I’ve read about how even in the HH some marines preferred riding Stormbirds or Thunderhawks into combat than the uncontrolled release of a drop pod assault. This way we can get the rhino as an early-mid game transport and you can’t abuse the orbital deployment ability, cause it does piss me off quite a bit that any transports aren’t avail til thunder hawks and when I’m sending my devestators to the front lines but I can’t get close as they’ll be butchered by the AI’s basilisks even though at times your own basilisks wont do the same kind of damage. This way they can be used as their supposed to to take the brunt of the damage and then unload their cargo where they need to go.

    Pretty good video except for taking assault marines over chaplains. Chaplains are by a large margin the best hero SM have and in my book should be prioritized over the captain

      @@AXharoth ,chaplains have a 10% damage buff on 3 turn cooldown that caps at 30%. They can also raise your city loyalty passively. Their level 6 skill is an aoe heal around them. The skill I level last is the one that increases nearby units morale and reduces enemy morale, but maybe someone else knows when to level it first. If you look at why prioritize the chaplain over the captain? Chaplains will buff up to 3 units, 6 if you position them in the middle, and start with 10 armor. They are essentially a brick wall. By the time you have the chaplain, if you've kept all your squads alive you can form an offensive or defensive line with them behind the chaplain. In the vanilla game the chaplain can fight many heroes to a draw, if not win. By the time he needs to retreat, you will have produced the captain, so he can take the chaplain's place on the front line

      @WalkaCrookedLine Год назад +4

      @@AXharoth Captains with the "Deeds of Glory" skill will provide a ton of influence to your city, which you can put to good use in a number of ways. In combat, the Captain can do significant damage, but his DPS pales beside his ability to stand in the middle of a whole enemy army laughing maniacally as their firepower barely scratches him. Captains have armor 10, more than most tanks, and two different 50% damage reduction traits. And they count as infantry so can get even more damage reduction from forests/ruins/outposts. And when you finally wear them down a bit they self heal. And they get to use items, so you can even boost up their armor and add zoat hide for extra hit points. This isn't that huge an advantage in PvP as sensible players will shoot more fragile units first, but against AI enemies you can often sucker them into attacking the Captain, largely wasting their fire.
      Chaplains provide a very useful morale boost to your city, which you will need pretty soon because you have to expand that city like a kudzu patch to get production anywhere near what other factions can do with multiple cities. In combat, they are less directly useful than Captains, but they have handy support abilities that let them increase the effectiveness of nearby friendly units.
      Librarians are Psionically gifted beings that have a hodgepodge of psychic abilities. None of the abilities really stand out enough to make them very useful. Most players stick to Captains and Chaplains, and never build more than one Librarian if any at all.

    I can appreciate the uploader has a thing for chainswords, but it seems to me assault marines aren't really very useful. If you add up the damage their weapons do, it is slightly less than the damage tactical marines do at range one, once you allow for the tactical marines being doubled at range 1 due to the rapid fire trait. But tactical marines can fire at range 2, which assault marines cannot do. The only real advantage of the assault marines is the ability to jump, which to me just isn't enough to justify spending research time on. Later on you get more powerful melee units, dreadnaughts and terminators, that make assault marines look feeble, so if you do research assault marines there is a pretty short time window when they are still slightly useful before the big boys make them obsolete.
