- Intense thundersnow In Sandy, Utah 3.15.18
The crazy lightning storm that occurred brought very loud thunder indicating very close lightning strikes. The storm squall, caused by lake effect, dropped about 3 inches of snow in the course of about 45 minutes.
That’s some of the most awesome and beautiful thunderclaps I’ve ever heard. Too bad most were cut short. I’m glad that last one didn’t get edited out after 5 seconds because it went on forever. Falling snow has different sound muffling properties than does rain and since snow makes no noise in itself, thundersnow has a really peculiar sound signature. Great video, loved it.
Yeah it was awesome! Living right next to the mountains is super awesome for thunderstorms. You get to hear the thunder twice!
❤
That's pretty loud. Normally thundersnow is usually quieter because the snow muffles the sound of the thunder
John Ackerman yea it was pretty nuts
@@crazymaze22 must be very rare for a thundersnow to sound that loud
John Ackerman IKR if it was that loud then the lightning must have been literally on top of whoever was filming.
Big brain 🧠
That's if the storm is miles away. Thunder is often harder to hear. If it's on you it can be loud.
That's crazy the noise it makes. Doesn't sound like normal thunder. Amazing.
Yeah, the snow creates sound wave buffers unlike rain. It's like a soft muffled thunderstorm, plus you don't hear any falling rain
Whats even more crazy is the sound is supposed to be softer
@@j.ballsdeep420the thunder must be very close then

I used to live in Flagstaff and got to witness it twice last year.
You were almost struck by thunder!? 🤨
A Wh No,it’s called thunder snow because it sounds cool
No lightning. People are struck by lightning during snowstorms. It happened to a school teacher as she got out of her car during a snowstorm about 2 years ago.
You been... thunderstruck!
Click bait at its finest
@@miniash1939 I mean you gotta give it to them they did a really good job on photoshopping that thumbnail.
The one at 0:21 definitely hit something! You could hear the snap of the lightning.
Nope, the lightning was cloud to cloud, the click indicates a high amp discharge, if the lightning connected to ground it would be much louder - another giveaway was the thunder, as it dissipates quickly owing to the discharge being within the cloud and dampened by the snow laden cloud
@@stevegibb6334
It’s terrifying to hear it in person.
@@stevegibb6334 the third one is also a high amp -CC. That one was no more than 100 feet away, if not less
@@theslayeroforyx3546Ah! I thought they were all positive strikes. How could you tell that they were negative? :)
@@theslayeroforyx3546 I don't think the main channel was that close, but it sounded like one of those spindly sub-branches could have been within 100 feet.
This is one of the best videos of thundersnow I have ever seen! Really awesome shots!
0:35 the strike was right there
0:35 0:36 0:37 0:38
Wow! I've lived in Utah most of my life and haven't gotten to hear thunder or see lightening in the winter, yet. I used to live in Sandy for several years, too. That's pretty cool you were able to capture that on film, too! 🙂
I don't know if I should downvote for the clickbait or upvote for the rare footage.
🎵"Oh the weather outside is frightful"🎵
No shit! Lol
You can just hear the lightning making a cracking sound. Awesome video.
I was in a blizzard once and experienced thunder just like this. It's a different kind of thunder typically more bluish and is typically louder. Reason being is sound travels farther and goes longer distances in colder weather.
Good video. Too bad about the clickbait title and thumbnail.
Excellent Video. Its nice when people just hold camera static, in one position and limit their chatter talk. Great example of Thundersnow. Such an amazing & unique phenomenon most people will never experience.
"Very quiet" for lightning in distance of ~ 600 - 700 m, here in Czech republic are thundersnows quite a rare
@@messycatanddex3128 Exactly :), the last time when I saw thundersnow here was in Feb-18 when there was freezing air from Siberian pressure high and suddenly gust of warmer air from British Isles pressure low met with cold air :)
Irie mon. Greetins from sunny Jamaica. Here we be gettin lightning as wide as one mile. It be best not to get stricken by it.
Be careful out there.
The rumbles of thunder where so good
Thundersnow is extreamly rare, your very lucky
Ive experienced thundersnow 5 times.
Its only rare because you need to be in the right place at the right time. I've witnessed it twice in 2019 and once last year
Jim Cantore would be proud.
Snow or rain, when it is lightning, inside is the best place to be
this is nuts! I have a fear of thunder & lightning, so I would be very insecure standing over there :(
i got over mine as i live in the uk so when i went to the us i heard the loudest thunderclaps
@@finlaaaaa.3097 in the south or anywhere inside tornado alley, storms are either really calm or have like a warning or two accompanying them, it gets crazy sometimes💀
Ahhh Oklahoma
My fear is becoming less i hope. But im sorry u had to go trough this tho
Get Jim Cantore over here!
Pokemon Fan Transit And Rail yes please!
Weirdest thundersnow I ever saw was in 98" it was flurrying and stormed. The only reason I remember it. Is there was a really loud one. It hit a friend of mines barn. And burned it down.
Wow! That's so sad!
Wow that must have been right on top of your head if it was that loud.
Those lightning flashes are very close, too close!
Great picture for this video... Really authentic visualisation.
Those are all 100% positive lightning strikes in every batch 😱
You can hear a lot of static discharge before the actual thunder, as if the snow is helping objects to spark inductively by the nearby lightning strikes
Just experienced Thunder Snow for the first time in my life in the early hours of yesterday morning and I can only liken the noise to the sound of a bomb going off. Never heard thunder like it.
I agree, I’m not sure why thunder snow seems to be louder
@@crazymaze22 we get thunder and lightning quite a lot here in Scotland. But I have never heard anything like that before. You can normally tell when there is going to be thunder and lightning because it gets really muggy and warm and then there is thunder and lightning followed by the heaviest rain ever which breaks the heat. I honestly thought a bomb had gone off or a tree had hit my house. Never saw the lightning but have seen videos and it looked so bright. Pretty cool.
Oh, how I hate it when that thumnails is not a part of the video!
Thats crazy! All looks to be cloud to cloud lightning, and with how little time there was between the flash and the thunder it was literally right over head (~1000 feet up)
Oh ya, and that "how ever may seconds there are between lightning and thunder is how many miles away it is" thing we were all told as children is a load of BS. Its more like 5 seconds per mile.
Speed of sound is ~767mph and there are 3600 (60²) seconds in an hour, which gives 0.213 miles per second. To conver to feet simply multiply by feet per mile, 0.213•5280 = ~ 1125 feet per second).
🌈the more you know🌈⭐
That is one powerful Thundersnow storm.
They sound like positive lightning strikes, a type of lightning commonly associated with thundersnow. :D
Thunder snow is so damn amazing to witness and I don’t know why lol. It’s the same thing we get in the summer. But it’s just something different.
Never in my life have I ever thought it would snow and thunder 😱😅
It happens, you just gotta be at the right place at the right time.
@@lamargoat2406it’s very rare tho and is 80% of the time manmade
we had a snow storm and also strong, it was in January 2015 1:10 a.m. in Liège Belgium and up to 12 cm of snow fell in large flakes of 2.5 cm in diameter.
Never heard of thunder snow before only the residents of Scotland were woken up by thunder snow and it was so loud. Must b very uncommon in the u.k.
Its really rare and for the uk it would even more rare since we dont get snow often
In england a few months ago we had hail and thunder. The hail was at least 2 to 3 inches the most hail in Britain seen in DECADES
The clickbaity title and the ridiculous photoshopped Jim Cantore thumbnail kinda ruined it for alot of people, and that's unfortunate because the video in itself is actually pretty cool.
I came here for the thumbnail
what name this place
It's like being on a different planet! Snow AND thunderstorms?!?! WHAAAAAT!!!!😅 SO COOL!!!
someone get Jim Cantore on this
Just saw a major lightening flash during daytime during snowfall over here. Then a very sudden loud thunder, mustve been real close by. Please be safe, electrocutions never really produce afterlives, not even in utah.
Nice! Thanks for sharing
And The Rain Washed Away Everything
Also sounded so satisfying
How long was it thundering and lighting for please. Did it rumble on for hours?
About 30 mins
It's rare in Buffalo NY but it's not quiet as you think up here
Just curious do you know what the temperature was during this Thundersnow? I'm guessing about 28F.
I think you’re about right. Snowstorms in my area don’t tend to be “cold”, as opposed to some storms over the plains where you can see temperatures in the teens during a storm.
You gotta tell me what location that is gets thunder snow
“ITS A TWO FER BABY WOOOOOO”
Im alive
That’s good to know :) thx for watching
Nice video 😄 ⚡️❄️🌩🌨
Great Sound
Thundersnow will it be squall bands or individual cells in the steady snow in a snow storm increase snow fall rates and wind with its downdrafts!!
THOSE WERE SOME CLOSE LIGHTNING FLASHES, BUT NOTHING LIKE WHAT WAS DEPICTED IN THE "COVER" PHOTO WHERE A FLASH STRUCK JUST INCHES FROM A PERSON. THAT WAS JUST NOT IN THIS VIDEO!!
Respect the game boss
@@crazymaze22 How is this disrespectful and what do you mean by "game"? I was just making an observation after watching the video.
0:20 You can hear the lightning as it strikes, amazing huh?
The third one definitely was close enough to hear the arcing

Nah, it's actually pretty cool
I came to this video expecting to see some goon standing out in the yard and bolt of lightning hitting the ground or some object next to him.
I’m sorry this video did not deliver on that expectation
@@crazymaze22 that's ok. still an interesting video
@@crazymaze22 you gave them that expectation ya dingus!
Thunder doesn't strike people.
Jason Dane you also can’t have thunder without lightning
No but lightning can.
It can if ur in an open field
How do you know
that was really close..
0:36 the thunder started before the flash ended!
I wouldn't stand outside during this thundersnow unless you want to play Russian Roulette.

It would be so cool to experience irl 😅
Not just from a video
0:36⚡️⚡️⚡️Jesus.!!! Did the lightning struck a few inches from you??? It's the only video i ever saw on you tube was so close,so close.
I haven't either. That's why I felt like I had to post it to youtube
All positive lightning strikes

*_Jim Cantore wants to know your location._*
It's not as rare as what people try to say it is. Even here in Dallas where it only snows decent once every 5 or 6 years, I've seen this happen several times. So, I'm not sure why it's considered so rare. Especially since there are tons of videos every winter.
As with many weather phenomena, “thunder snow” is not easy to predict. Also, the chances of a prolonged thunder-snow event, such as in my video, are extremely small. It’s almost like seeing multiple tornado’s in a day. Unlikely, but possible and unusual.
That one seemed pretty close 0:36 the crackle of it
Very close airburst too. Almost on top of you.
Wow.
Most loudest thunder snow.
So where exactly is the thumbnail? Disliked

It could muffle but the snow isn't falling that thick hun
A person can be struck by thunder snow? What does thunder snow look like? Why not say lightening?
It’s the same as lightning but you very rarely see it strike anything because it often occurs in strong snowstorms where visibility can be cut down to a few hundred yards or less. All you hear is the thunder.
Gnarly !
