It was a hell of a surprise to see a video on the SMT, because that's exactly the plane I've been struggling to stock grind recently. Seeing you slam those plane with the water pistol was incredible :D.

I‘ve been playing the F-5C extensively and you can outrate a lot of Planes, MiG-21s of all sort included. The thing is: it only works while keeping your speed above Mach 0.9. The Engine produces a lot of Power compared to it being at Mach 0.7, so basically…. as soon as you bleed to much speed in a rate fight, you Uno Reverse Card your own ass.
I've been playing the F-5C a lot too, I don't get how to outplay a MiG-21. Even a worse player will outplay you, they speed up quicker, have higher top speed, can beat you in a turn fight, have missiles that work, just seems to be an all round superior plane.
Oh, and now they can also put out their fires.

As a rule of Thumb: yes the MiG-21 can stomp you, but ironically; the strengths of the F-5C are also the MiG-21‘s weaknesses. The F-5 has an amazing energy retention, while the MiG-21 sheds a lot of speed in a turn. You can go Mach 1, do a 180 and you‘ll start gaining distance on the MiG-21.
You also have guns you can Aim and they also hit quite hard for it‘s caliber.
So in a nutshell: you‘ll outrate a MiG-21 if you keep it at Mach 0.9 - 1.0. Rolling scissors won‘t work, but going Vertical at that speed might bleed them a lot of speed. In the end it‘s a matter of tactics, a good MiG-21 Pilot will clap your cheeks so play your cards right and you might get away with it.
@@PerriThePlatyPilot Don’t go vertical loops against mig 21. Even if the mig will bleed more speed, it’ll go faster upwards and can point the nose with its AoA. Try and force sustained rate fights.
If you're bleeding speed in a rate fight then you're not doing it correctly. To rate fight you need to stay within your planes optimal rate speed, if you're constantly pulling max G turns ofc you're going to bleed yourself of speed.

Love the SMT, played it today myself and it's amazing 10.3 the only downgrade is really the water pistol...whiffed so many kills
Practice makes perfect. I love the mig 21’s so much I basically only play it. It does take a while to get the hang of it but my best advice would be to aim uncomfortably ahead and you will hit your mark.
It's amazing because it's broken as hell, it should be 10.7, but gaijin logic says no, let's put it at 10.3 where it can face subsonics, what a joke.

I'm starting to fly top tier, and I'm finding it very hard to get reliable information on the current meta or even simply how each aircraft stacks against the others. Many videos are outdated, new jets added, armaments changed...
I'm using the F-4EJ Kai and feel like I have no way to influence the outcome of the battle, what is my role and how to stay useful and safe at the same time.
It most probably comes down to my lack of experience, but so far I'd rather fly the Mitsubishi F-1 with which I can do decently well... and if I'm not mistaken, that thing isn't exactly the best at 10.3
What I'd like to know is: at 11.3, can I influence the outcome of my matches or is it more of a coin toss? If yes, is there any chance you Defyn could give us some pointers?

I don’t have any Russian aircraft researched, so I fly the mig21mf in the German tree, and that thing is equally as amazing. A really solid all-round fighter that has done an incredible job of resisting meta changes, definitely one of my favorite planes to fly.
Germany is the best nation to play because it gets everything, so cool wow

The MF which basically the same plane is good fun. Also that F8E threw that game hard. F8E is more than capable of taking on Mig-21s
MF has weaker engine. Still a great plane tho
still convinced this and the MF need to be 10.7, simply too good at 10.3 when you play high and dive down on most furballing. consistently get 3+ kills a game in the MF and its stupidly easy at this BR

What baffles me is that 104 with 9Js are still in 10.7, those 104s doesn't even have countermeasures and can't even maneuver

I am a single unlock away from being able to grind the SMT. The event has slowed my progress in the Russian tech tree. Been using the F4F early and MiG 21 FM to grind the event. The FM is one of my favourite aircraft. I am looking forward to this one though.

First, I just want to say that I really enjoy all your videos and wish I had the knowledge you do. Secondly, I'm curious on why you didn't shoot a missle at the F-8E, at 14:39. He was at the top of his loop, slow speed, about 1.8km away and you had a lock on him.
I can't be entirely sure, but I think the reason why DEFYN didn't shoot his missile at the F-8E was because the F-8E was a free guns kill. Typically, missiles are often used as a utility to encourage/discourage an enemy's action or to remove people from the match quickly with little hassle, and using a missile against someone who is hanging from the air is a bit of a waste in that regard, as you're throwing away a utility that could have easily been saved.
It's only with hindsight that we can say that DEFYN should've fired a missile there, as we know the outcome of him missing the F-8E.
2 main reasons.
1. The F-8E has flares, and R-60s are very flare hungry
2. He was confident that he would hit that shot, and didn't feel the need to waste a missile
when where already here for everyone who has it the F-8E at the moment is kinda crazy even with the caged 9D
when I was on my grind to the f-4j using the F-8U I didn't die one single time to mig-21's, would always force them into rate fights and then gg. Heck once I even outrated a mig-23m
This aircraft is indeed the best Mig since it is in the right br with great missiles and performance.
Mig-21SMT is not King Fishbed!! The best Mig-21 is Bis version. The hump behind the cabin "enlarged tank" was a big problem, it significantly worsened the aerodynamics of the plane

A question for you, sir, if I may: and maybe you already plan on answering it in your video for Sunday. If the MiG-21SMT is as fast as it is, accelerates as well as it does, and carries the missiles it does at 10.3, how are the F-5As and F-5C 10.3 material with a lower top speed and much worse missiles comparatively not to mention fewer of them. Do they expect you to ground pound in that airframe, are they overtiered and should be lowered to 10.0, or is the MiG-21SMT actually 10.7 material with a 10.3 BR? Or is there something else about them entirely that I am missing all together (which wouldn't surprise me as I'm still new to Air RB combat). Keep up the great videos; looking forward to the next one. o7

I've been playing the smt recently. Idk how you can consistently beat F8s and F5cs. I've also played the f8e and I never found any mig 21 a problem and now being on the other side my opinion has been affirmed. Also the moment the F4c gets flares which it should this planes power will go down by a ridiculous degree.
F4C getting flares have been asked for since its introduction years ago. Gaijin said no and no evidence it was ever mounted.

Why are you using max zoom everytime? I bind 2 keys for slow zooming and other for default and it works very good. In situation when enemy starting turn its better to use small zoom than max

Come on man why you have to lie like that, this thing gets crippled at BEST by a one of two shots. Meanwhile its 20mm seems to have been nerfed in damage dealt, not to mention the SU-25s everywhere which soak up your rounds like they're nothing.
Because the F-5C's damage is broken, doesn't mean it's going to survive getting riddled with 30MM but it survives things it shouldn't all the time.
